Evan Rachel Wood speaks out and stands up for herself, as well as other domestic abuse survivors, in the official trailer for Phoenix Rising. Directed by Amy Berg (The Case Against Adnan Syed), Phoenix Rising had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and will air on HBO as a two-part documentary.
Part one will air on March 15, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT followed by part two on March 16, 2022.
HBO’s provided the following description of the documentary:
Phoenix Rising delves behind familiar headlines and explores the often-misunderstood aspects of domestic abuse, helping to shed light on the many factors that prevent survivors from coming forward with their stories as they deal with years of aftershocks and emotional trauma.
At age 18, Wood was pursued by then 37-year-old Brian Warner, known to the world as the rock icon Marilyn Manson. In sway to his status, image, and persuasive personality, she began a relationship with him that spanned over four years. As the relationship progressed, Wood went from a teenager flattered by his attention, to a young woman terrified of the man who claimed to love her, and she experienced escalating emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Looking back, she recognized a pattern of grooming and control tactics similar to those experienced by other survivors who told their stories of harrowing experiences at the hands of Warner.
Connecting the dots between the progression of her relationship with Warner and phases of the clinical domestic violence cycle, Wood successfully lobbied for The Phoenix Act, which was signed into California State Law in 2019, extending the statute of limitations for domestic violence felonies from three years to five years.
Using archival footage, intimate home videos and candid testimony from Wood and other survivors, Phoenix Rising charts Wood’s journey from silent victim to vocal survivor and her rise to a domestic violence advocate. Amid rising public controversy and an active law enforcement investigation, Wood stands in solidarity with other survivors. On February 1st, 2021, Wood publicly named Brian Warner, aka Marilyn Manson, as her abuser, free from the burden of silence, even as the promise of justice remains ambiguous. To date, no charges have been filed against Warner, who denies abusing Wood or any other person.

Emmy winner Michael Chiklis (The Shield) will star in the premiere episode of Fox’s Accused. Emmy winner Michael Cuesta (Homeland) is confirmed to direct the first episode of the crime anthology drama which received a straight-to-series order from the network.
According to Fox, Michael Chiklis will play Dr. Scott Corbett, “a successful brain surgeon with a seemingly perfect family. He faces the limits of unconditional love when he discovers his teenage son may be planning a violent attack at school.”
The series is executive produced by Howard Gordon (24, Homeland), Alex Gansa (24, Homeland), and David Shore (The Good Doctor, House). Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Glenn Geller, Erin Gunn, All3Media America’s Jacob Cohen-Holmes, and All3Media International’s Jimmy McGovern, Sita Williams, Roxy Spencer, and Louise Pedersen also serve as executive producers.
“Michael Chiklis and Michael Cuesta, teamed with Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa and David Shore, make a powerful combination for Accused,” stated Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment, FOX Entertainment. “They each are synonymous with high-stakes television, engaging drama and compelling performances, striking the perfect tone required for a series of this caliber.”
“We are thrilled to have Michael leading our first episode. He was the first actor we thought of when casting Accused. He’s been a valued member of our Sony family since The Shield and we couldn’t be happier to be working with him again,” said Dawn Steinberg, EVP Worldwide Talent & Casting, Sony Pictures Television.
Accused is based on a BBC One series created by Jimmy McGovern.
Fox released the following description of the new series:
Accused opens in a courtroom on the accused, with viewers knowing nothing about their crime or how they ended up on trial. Told from the defendant’s point of view through flashbacks, Accused holds a mirror up to the current times with evocative and emotional stories.
In Accused, viewers discover how an ordinary person gets caught up in an extraordinary situation, ultimately revealing how one wrong turn leads to another until it’s too late to turn back.

The Ghost Adventures team returns with new episodes on Thursday, March 10, 2022 on discovery+. Zak Bagans, Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolley, and Jay Wasley will be investigating paranormal activity at new locations including John Steinbeck’s childhood home, the LA Police Museum, and a doll shop. (FYI: You couldn’t pay me to watch an episode about creepy dolls.)
“I can’t wait for everyone to see these investigations,” stated Zak Bagans. “What we experienced and were able to capture is simply insane. I’m talking about highly intelligent spirits, prolific poltergeist activity and incredibly powerful energy that severely affected all of us, physically and emotionally. The evidence is mind-blowing.”
discovery+ released the following descriptions of the eight new episodes set to air in March and April 2022:
“Montecito Mansion of Mystery” – Begins Streaming Thursday, March 10
Zak Bagans senses a historic mansion with a tragic and mysterious past in Montecito, California, has called to him. When the crew attempts to re-create a séance in the home’s majestic main hall, they capture some of their most compelling evidence to date.
“Mountain Oaks Mayhem” – Begins Streaming Thursday, March 17
Zak Bagans and the Ghost Adventures team gather in La Crescenta, California, to investigate an abandoned home that has been infected with evil. The dark forces that dwell there tore a family apart, and anyone who dares step inside the house is left fearing for their life.
“Pacific Grove Nightmare” – Begins Streaming Thursday, March 24
The Ghost Adventures team arrive in Pacific Grove, California, to investigate a doll shop overwhelmed by dark energy. Shelves of dolls and puppets appear to offer up disturbing clues as the search for evidence leaves the team drained and disoriented.
“Whitmore Mansion” – Begins Streaming Thursday, March 31
Zak Bagans and the crew investigate a Utah mansion soaked in tragedy and bloodshed. Unexplained paranormal activity has the new owner desperate for answers, and the team is concerned that a portal to hell has unleashed a negative entity into the home.
“Panic on Pine Street” – Begins Streaming Thursday, April 7
The team investigates poltergeist activity at a historic saloon in Paso Robles, California. The activity is so relentless that staff and guests don’t feel safe on the premises. Zak Bagans suspects it may be the sole work of an entity called “The Old Hag.”
“LA Police Station Invasion” – Begins Streaming Thursday, April 14
The crew is called to the Los Angeles Police Museum to confront a dark presence that has invaded the once-thriving precinct. Zak Bagans believes the disturbing activity is linked to the macabre artifacts from some of LA’s most notorious crimes.
“Petrified in Pahrump” – Begins Streaming Thursday, April 21
The Ghost Adventures crew are called to a desolate Nevada town to investigate a winery allegedly built atop sacred burial grounds. Fatal accidents plague the property, and the terrified staff is stalked by an evil presence. Can Zak Bagans get to the bottom of the deadly curse?
“Steinbeck House Haunting” – Begins Streaming Thursday, April 28
Zak Bagans, Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolley and Jay Wasley travel to Salinas, California, to investigate the birthplace of iconic author John Steinbeck. For decades, witnesses, including Steinbeck himself, have felt a dark presence in the home. Could a portal be drawing spirits to the property?
Ghost Adventures Description, Courtesy of discovery+
On a dedicated mission to understand and capture evidence of the afterlife, the Ghost Adventures team respond to incidences of ghostly activity that has left those in its wake frightened and searching for answers. Zak, Aaron, Billy and Jay first meet with eyewitnesses and experts in an attempt to piece together the haunted history of each site. Using advanced cutting-edge technology, their unique paranormal intuition and more than two decades of experience, the team then begins their “lockdown” investigation in an effort to obtain physical evidence of the paranormal and a better understanding of this unexplained phenomena.

CBS’s NCIS: Hawai’i will return from its month-long winner break with season one episode 14, “Broken.” Directed by Norman Buckley from a script by Matt Bosack and Jan Nash, episode 14 will air on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT.
Vanessa Lachey (Call Me Kat, Truth Be Told) leads the cast as Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, Alex Tarrant plays Kai Holman, Noah Mills stars as Jesse Boone, and Yasmine Al-Bustami plays Lucy Tara. The first season also stars Jason Antoon as Ernie Malik and Tori Anderson as Kate Whistler.
Episode 14 guest stars include Mahina Napoleon, Seana Kofoed, Tim Herkenhoff, and Patrick Fischler.
“Broken” Plot: While Jane is questioned following Maggie Shaw’s arrest, the rest of the team investigates a mysterious case of Marines with damaged ear canals from a weapon that emits ultrasonic waves. Also, Ernie visits his friend, Dr. Tony Lee (Alec Mapa), to identify possible suspects who had access to his classified weapon.
The world’s most successful television series continues on the seductive shores of the Aloha State with NCIS: Hawai’i, where the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor, Jane Tennant, has thrived and risen through the ranks by equal parts confidence and strategy in a system that has pushed back on her every step of the way. Together with her unwavering team of specialists, they balance duty to family and country while investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security and the mysteries of the sun-drenched island paradise itself.
HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty dives into the colorful history of the Los Angeles Lakers, focusing on the first years of Jerry Buss’ ownership of the NBA franchise. The series is inspired by Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s and stars Oscar nominee John C. Reilly as the charismatic wheeler-dealer who not only revived the Lakers but also the entire NBA.
Quincy Isaiah fills Magic Johnson’s huge shoes, playing the NBA legend at the beginning of his professional career. And during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Isaiah revealed his first love was actually basketball. “That’s what I wanted to be, so for me to portray one of the greatest basketball players in the history of the game is incredible,” said Isaiah.
Isaiah was determined to make the basketball look authentic, while fully aware of how difficult it is to imitate Magic Johnson’s skills. “It’s hard to emulate that but we can get a little taste, a little essence of who they are on the court,” said Isaiah. “I feel like that goes a long way.”
Winning Time was co-created by executive producers/writers Max Borenstein (The Terror) and Jim Hecht, with Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up) also executive producing as well as directing the pilot. The series is described as a drama but there’s plenty of humor, much of which centers around John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss.
Reilly does a phenomenal job of playing the millionaire who resurrected the Lakers, and the trailer teases the series’ use of breaking the fourth wall to include the audience in key events and provide relevant tidbits.
John C. Reilly credits playing Oliver Hardy in Stan & Ollie as preparing him for breaking the fourth wall and speaking directly to the audience in Winning Time.
“It was almost like you kind of had to decide some qualities for your scene partner, the camera. Normally when you’re acting with an actor, you can just see what they’re giving off. But when you’re looking into the camera, it’s not ‘no one’ that you’re talking to. You’re kind of talking to everyone,” explained Reilly. “So, I tried to be as specific and as intimate as I could be to build that relationship from episode to episode, so that you really felt comfortable when I was talking to you and leading the way through this story, here and there.”
For Quincy Isaiah, there were natural beats when it just felt right to speak directly into the camera. “And sometimes people would be like, ‘Hey, why don’t you try to deliver that line to this camera?’ And I’d be like, ‘Okay, let me try it.’ And then you know, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But I feel like they figure out which one feels the best,” explained Isaiah.
“That sense that the characters in the story could at any time turn right to you and start talking to you, I think, creates this kind of chaotic wonderful energy in the show, too,” added Reilly.

The official trailer allows a brief glimpse at the adversarial relationship between Jerry Buss and the Boston Celtics’ Red Auerbach. Michael Chiklis plays Red, the legendary cigar-chomping head coach and Celtics executive who won 16 NBA championships, including nine as a coach.
“Michael Chiklis is a great actor. While doing this show, it was just hit one after the other with all these great actors coming in, and Michael was a really formidable presence not only because of his character, Red Auerbach. It’s an inherent kind of clash set up there, but Michael himself is a really powerful guy,” said Reilly. “He has an intense energy, and he comes to win. We’re working together, but he comes…I had to stand toe-to-toe with him in many different places. Those scenes were great because it’s, in a way, the relationship.
And, by the way, the things we portray in the show – some of it is blanks that have been filled in by our screenwriters, some of it is based on historical record, and I didn’t know the difference. I’ve never wanted to know the difference. I didn’t want to know what really happened and what didn’t happen, because I needed to be acting like it all happened.”
Reilly continued: “Those scenes between Jerry and Red were really intense because it was, in a way, Jerry’s education to what it’s like to be an owner of a sports team at that level. I think Jerry, in our story, Jerry felt like, ‘Well, maybe this guy will be like a mentor to me. He’s been doing it so long. He’s won so much already. Maybe he’s getting tired of it, and he wants to help someone else.’
Of course, that was not the case. That was not in the cards. Red Auerbach was a vicious competitor.”

Not all the action in Winning Time is on the court. Buss was a bachelor who liked to party, and Reilly believes Buss handled himself like most men of wealth would in the same circumstances.
“In terms of the hedonistic stuff that we get into with Jerry is really, to me, just a feature of the time, you know? Late ‘70s, that was the scene among a man of his age, for the most part, certainly in Los Angeles,” said Reilly. “He was a confirmed bachelor. After he got divorced, he dated a lot, so we definitely wanted to be truthful about that part of it. But I think you’ll agree when you see the whole series that that’s just one small facet of Jerry’s life.
The truth is it’s one of the greatest American stories I’ve ever come across. What he did, where he came from in Wyoming, and where he ended up here in Los Angeles can only happen in this country. I’ll just I’ll leave it at that.”

The 10-episode series debuts Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
In addition to John C. Reilly and Quincy Isaiah, Winning Time stars Jason Clarke as Jerry West, Adrien Brody as Pat Riley, Gaby Hoffmann as Claire Rothman, Tracy Letts as Jack McKinney, Jason Segel as Paul Westhead, Sally Field as Jessie Buss, and Julianne Nicholson as Cranny McKinney.
Hadley Robinson plays Jeanie Buss, DeVaughn Nixon is Norm Nixon, Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tamera Tomakili is Earleatha “Cookie” Kelly, Brett Cullen is Bill Sharman, and Stephen Adly Guirgis is Frank Mariani.
For Amy Acker, it was so much fun to revisit her native Texas on 9-1-1: Lone Star – if only in spirit since the FOX first-responder series is filmed in Los Angeles.
“I wish we got to actually shoot there, but there have been several scenes that really remind me of home,” reminisced Acker, who was born in Dallas and is an alumna of Lake Highlands High School and Southern Methodist University in University Park, TX (during her junior year at SMU, Acker was a model for J. Crew).
Best known for playing Winifred “Fred” Burkle and later the goddess Illyria on Seasons 2-5 of Angel, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off, and Root on Person of Interest, Acker’s also been a regular on The Gifted, Alias, as well as the short-lived series Happy Town, and Drive (playing the wife of a pre-Castle Nathan Fillion). She’s also had recurring and guest roles on Dollhouse, All Rise, Suits, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, How I Met Your Mother, Supernatural, among others. In fact, she was a recent guest on the podcast Supernatural: Then and Now, hosted by Supernatural co-stars Rob Benedict and Richard Speight, Jr.
Earlier this month on 9-1-1: Lone Star – a spin-off of 9-1-1 – Acker began her recurring role as Catherine Harper, the chief of staff for the governor of Texas, who encounters Capt. Owen Strand (former Brat Packer Rob Lowe, who also serves as an executive producer).
“Owen and I go on a date from a dating app and it doesn’t go well,” said Acker.
While on their date, Lowe made a sly reference to his previous show, The West Wing, mentioning the “walk and talks,” where characters would walk down a corridor hurriedly and talk just as hurriedly.
“It was time for Owen to start trying to get back into the world on a personal level,” explained 9-1-1: Lone Star co-creator/executive producer Tim Minear. “We wanted to create a woman who was formidable and independent. Lone Star takes place in the Texas capital of Austin, so it seemed like an opportunity to acknowledge that. Hence, Catherine Harper.”
Minear had Acker in mind for Catherine.
“Because she’s awesome and it’s been way too long since we’ve worked together. And I had a feeling Rob and Amy would have chemistry. I was right,” he said. “The character… was written with Amy in mind. We had casting check to see if she was available before we even wrote anything.”
According to Minear, Catherine will be pivotal in helping Owen looking at various life-changing moments that have happened to him, along with some of his lingering behaviors with new eyes.
“And Owen will be drawn into a dangerous situation when Catherine is the target of what might be a politically motivated attack on the state capitol,” he said. “Owen will continue to cherish the 126 and defend it from forces great and small. And he will learn that, even though his past is full of those grateful for his service, he’s also made some enemies along the way – some potentially very dangerous ones.”
So will Catherine and Owen become a couple? Acker was coy.
“You’ll have to see,” she said. “I’m not sure what all I can reveal, but there’s a lot of really fun things coming up.”
A Reunion of Angel Stars
9-1-1: Lone Star also serves as a reunion for Acker and Minear. The two worked together on Angel, Dollhouse, and Drive.
“I adore Tim,” said Acker. “He is one of my all-time favorite people I’ve ever worked with, and I am so excited to get to do it again.”
In fact, Minear also had fellow Angel star Julie Benz in mind for her role on 9-1-1: Lone Star. Minear – who wrote/co-wrote the majority of the key episodes featuring Benz’s character, Darla, on Angel – cast Benz as Sadie, an artist and outdoorswoman, who meets Owen in this year’s season premiere.
“I loved working with both of them again,” said Minear, who left the door open for Benz to return.
Minear also pointed out that Acker and Benz aren’t the only Buffy/Angel stars to appear on 9-1-1: Lone Star this season in addition to Gina Torres (who played Jasmine on Angel and appeared on the short-lived cult classic Firefly, which Minear also wrote for), who is a regular on 9-1-1: Lone Star as Capt. Tommy Vega.
“Besides Gina, Amy, and Julie, Captain Tatum – Mateo’s (Julian Works) cranky interim captain – is played by Jack Conley, who played the demon Sahjhan on Angel; Brigid Brannagh, who was Wesley’s (Alexis Denisof) girlfriend in Season 2 of Angel, was the mother of the little boy who fell through the ice this year; and Harry Groener, Sunnydale’s Mayor (Richard Wilkins III on Season 3 of Buffy), was one half of the turtle-rescuing couple,” said Minear.
Acker, who has various projects she couldn’t talk about in the works, is having a great time on 9-1-1: Lone Star. She not only reunited with Minear, but also Rashad Raisani and Carly Soteras, both of whom wrote for The Gifted.
“So I knew it was going to be a lot of fun,” she said. “Then Tim gave me some episodes to watch, and I loved it! I mean, who isn’t a Rob Lowe fan? But everything about the show was executed so well, I was thrilled to get to be a part of it.”
