‘The Resident’ Season 5 Episode 15 Photos: Preview of “In for a Penny”

Fox’s The Resident will return from its two-week break with season five episode 15, “In for a Penny.” Episode 15 is set to air on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 8pm ET/PT.

Season five stars Matt Czuchry as Dr. Conrad Hawkins, Malcolm-Jamal Warner as Dr. AJ Austin, Bruce Greenwood as Dr. Randolph Bell, Jane Leeves as Dr. Kit Voss, and Manish Dayal is Dr. Devon Pravesh. Jessica Lucas plays Dr. Billie Sutton, Anuja Joshi is Dr. Leela Devi, and Miles Fowler is Trevor.

“In for a Penny” Plot: As his clinical begins, Devon treats his first patient with a revolutionary medical fluid that doesn’t go as planned. Meanwhile, an overdosed John Doe is rushed to Chastain, leading Conrad straight into a much bigger scandal than he expected. Then, a shocking secret regarding Cade’s past is discovered.

The Season 5 Plot, Courtesy of Fox:

Entering its fifth season, The Resident continues to shine a light on the daily heroism of our health care workers. The provocative medical drama follows the doctors and nurses at Chastain Memorial Hospital as they face personal and professional challenges and fight for their patients’ health.

Season four saw a multitude of highs and lows as the heroes at Chastain struggled to overcome the impossible, including the unprecedented and devastating Covid-19 pandemic. Now, in a propulsive and emotional season five, the ante is upped, as the doctors continue to save patients and fight corruption in the healthcare system, this time with a partner. The alliance with Big Pharma that found a cure for sickle cell disease last season proves in season five to be a very sharp double-edged sword.

The season kicks off when a mysterious ransomware attack threatens the hospital, and DR. DEVON PRAVESH (Dayal) and Chastain’s recently appointed CEO, DR. KIT VOSS (Leeves), must make high-stakes, split-second decisions with lives in the balance. Meanwhile, DR. CONRAD HAWKINS (Czuchry) and NURSE PRACTITIONER NICOLETTE NEVIN’s (Emily VanCamp) attempts to navigate parenthood, marriage and work-life balance take a shocking turn when Conrad is forced to make a life-changing choice that will alter the course of their family forever.

After the unwanted arrival of DR. BILLIE SUTTON’s (Lucas) biological son, she is forced to confront her past head-on in hopes of healing. Luckily, she’ll have help with the emergence of a new friendship – and rivalry – with DR. AJ AUSTIN (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), who unknowingly takes an interest in Billie’s son, TREVOR (Fowler). Elsewhere, a wrench is thrown in the plans of DR. LEELA DEVI (Joshi), when an unannounced visitor threatens her new relationship, and DR. RANDOLPH BELL (Greenwood) moves forward with a surprising love interest.

A new wrinkle five episodes into the season will challenge audience expectations and reveal new truths about our characters. Old relationships will be tested, new ones formed, and the emergence of a widespread Medicare fraud scheme ensures Chastain will never be the same.

‘Julia’ Cast and Producers on Julia Child’s Lasting Appeal

Julia Child Series
Sarah Lancashire as Julia Child (Photograph by Courtesy of HBO Max)

HBO Max’s new comedy series Julia explores the personal life and professional career of Julia Child, the extraordinary woman whose The French Chef TV show revolutionized public television. Premiering on March 31, 2022, Julia stars Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley) as the iconic chef, bestselling author, and larger-than-life television personality who continues to fascinate us nearly 20 years after she passed away at age 91.

So, why are we still so interested in Julia Child? The cast of Julia and executive producers Chris Keyser, Daniel Goldfarb, and Kimberly Carver shared their thoughts on Julia’s lasting appeal during the 2022 Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.

David Hyde Pierce, who stars as Julia’s supportive husband, Paul, believes Julia was one of a kind. “I think that’s why people have stayed interested in her throughout changing fashions and styles and foods and everything else, and why so many different versions of her have occurred, because she’s one of a kind and eternally fascinating.”

Brittany Bradford (Broadway’s Bernhardt/Hamlet) plays Alice Naman, a producer who wholeheartedly supported Julia and The French Chef. Bradford thinks it was Julia Child’s authenticity that continues to drive her popularity.

“She [had] a great sense of humor. She’s somebody that we can really connect to and a joy to be around as well,” added Fiona Glascott who stars as Judith Jones, the editor who championed Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. “I think that’s what makes her so popular, too.”

Bebe Neuwirth plays Julia Child’s good friend, neighbor, and staunch supporter Avis DeVoto. Neuwirth recalled that as a child the real Julia was fascinating to watch. Audiences of all ages got a kick out of her show.

“She was goofy. She was brilliant. She was profound. She was funny-looking, but she was also beautiful. And she did these incredible things and then fed you. It was sort of like quicksilver. She’s sort of like everything, a very, very multifaceted…like you can’t not look at her and say, ‘What is going on there?’ At least, as I say, from a kid’s perspective watching TV and we all are kids watching TV. That’s in all of us, that element,” said Neuwirth.

Fran Kranz, hot off his critically acclaimed directorial debut with Mass, plays The French Chef’s producer and director Russ Morash. “I thought the more I learned about her in doing this show and being so lucky to be a part of it, I saw her as an artist. And great artists are eternal. They stick around. We pay attention to them for years and years, centuries,” said Kranz. “There was an artist inside of her and I really love that.”

Finding Their Julia Child

Series creator and executive producer Daniel Goldfarb said they were lucky to find Sarah Lancashire and fortunate she was able to work on Julia and Happy Valley at the same time. Goldfarb describes Lancashire’s performance as Julia Child as full and rich, and executive producer Chris Keyser believes they wouldn’t have had a series if Lancashire hadn’t said yes.

Asked how she approached the role, Lancashire replied, “There’s such an awful lot of source material available online, so that was a starting point to reference her, plus reading the books about her and the letters between her and Avis. But at some point for me, I actually put the written material away. It didn’t necessarily make sense with what we were trying to do, which was a drama as opposed to a documentary.

I worked with a vocal coach for a very short period of time who, we were looking at accent, really. And then for me, I pulled away from that and started looking at trying to create a parallel voice, really, that would essentially create the essence of her vocal eccentricity and her singularity but was harmonized with the physical. And that’s important to find a place which is comfortable. That’s just a matter of time, really, of playing around and trying to find something which works.”

Lancashire continued: “I’m not a mimic. I can’t impersonate. And, also, she did have this extraordinarily complex vocal change, which I don’t share with her. And, therefore that, unfortunately, wasn’t an in for me. I had to find something which worked in parallel and was comfortable.

But really, I spent many, many hours just watching her. There’s so much source material available and really that’s what I was doing. But that’s not a hardship. She’s a joy to watch. You kind of want to be in her company and, yeah, she makes you feel better about the world, really. She’s a tonic.”

Julia Child’s Fierce Female Squad

Alice Naman and Judith Jones played pivotal roles in getting The French Chef on air at a time when the network brass were inclined to pass on the project. Brittany Bradford was thrilled to explore Alice’s part in The French Chef’s success and to learn more about Black producers in the 1960s.

“That was what excited me about the pilot as well, was not only getting to explore – you don’t get to hear a lot about Black producers at this time, which they were around, I just want to say – sometimes you want to think that something that’s improbable is impossible, but it’s not. And so getting a chance to learn about who Alice could have been and the Alices of the world and then getting an opportunity to interact with Julia… They’re two women that are going through life and working in completely different ways but they are complementary towards one another,” explained Bradford.

Executive producer Chris Keyser felt it was important to also fully explore the relationship between Julia Child and Judith Jones. Jones was already a highly respected editor when she discovered Julia Child.

“It was an extraordinary thing that they got together. I mean Judith Jones, her body of work before she comes to the cookbooks, is extraordinary,” said Fiona Glascott. “The amount of serious, heavy-hitting literary works that she has done and at the time was looking for – without even realizing it, she was looking for a way of French food particularly to be taught in America and cooked at home. And then when this manuscript fell on her desk, it’s like worlds collided.

She also is an extraordinarily generous woman who was really interested in bringing people together and elevating them. And I think not only did she fall in love with Julia’s work, but she fell in love with her. I mean, who couldn’t? And so together they started to elevate each other.

Julia was an answer for Judith’s wishes for years. They found each other and then Julia brought Judith again into this world of cookbooks. Judith, always being a huge fan of food and cooking, then ended up years later writing her own cookbooks, which I think was hugely owed to Julia and these women coming together and finding each other and then gathering more around them.”

BTS Sets Up Four Stadium Concerts in Las Vegas

BTS Permission to Dance Las Vegas

K-pop superstars BTS are adding four stadium concerts to their “Permission to Dance on Stage” tour, announcing they’re set to play four dates at Allegiant Stadium – home of the Las Vegas Raiders – which seats 65,000 people. The confirmed concert dates are April 8, 9, 15, and 16, 2022.

BTS will also host the in-person live broadcast event “Live Play in Las Vegas,” similar to what they did during their sold-out Los Angeles concerts. “Live Play in Las Vegas” will be held on all four dates at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Registration is now open at Ticketmaster to purchase tickets for just-added Las Vegas stadium shows. Registration ends on Saturday, February 26pm PT. For more information, visit Weverse.

The Las Vegas news comes hot on the tail of their recently announced concert dates in their home country, South Korea. BTS hasn’t performed in South Korea in over two years due to COVID-19 and South Korea’s stricter guidelines for COVID-19, which prohibited live concerts.

The BTS South Korea concerts will take place under strict restrictions. South Korea’s Ministry of Culture will allow the group to have 15,000 in-person attendees at each concert, meaning a total of 45,000 attendees will be allowed to see the group perform live at the outdoor Seoul Olympic Stadium. The South Korea concerts will take place on March 10, 12, and 13, 2022. In addition, the March 10th and 13th concerts will be live broadcast online. Fans can catch the March 12th concert in cinemas worldwide.

BTS returned to touring in the United States this past November after being forced to take time out by the COVID-19 pandemic. The popular group returned to the stage by selling out four nights at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, the location of 2022’s Super Bowl won by the LA Rams.

The Grammy-nominated group announced after their LA concerts they would be taking an extended break until further notice. March will kick off their “return” from a well-deserved break. The group’s expected to be part of the 2022 Grammys that were pushed back from January to April 3rd due to Omicron. No official announcement has been made by their label Big Hit Music or the Grammys, but fans pointed out the big show was moved from LA to Las Vegas. In addition, fans also noticed in the concert news that at the bottom of the Weverse announcement it states, “We place the artists’ and fans health as our top priority in order to keep the 64th Grammy Awards participation and ‘BTS’ Permission to Dance on Stage – LAS VEGAS’ concert as safe as possible.”

‘The Andy Warhol Diaries’ Trailer Offers a Peek Into Warhol’s Private Life

The trailer for The Andy Warhol Diaries begins by declaring Warhol’s greatest work of art was the artist himself. The six-part documentary series explores the world of Warhol by bringing to life his diary via AI technology approved by the Andy Warhol Foundation.

Ryan Murphy executive produces and Andrew Rossi directs the docuseries which will reveal parts of Warhol’s life kept hidden from the public. Additional executive producers include Josh Braun, Stanley Buchthal, Andrew Rossi, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Scott Robertson.

Netflix has set a March 9, 2022 premiere date for the documentary series.

The Andy Warhol Diaries Description, Courtesy of Netflix:

From executive producer Ryan Murphy and director Andrew Rossi, this breathtakingly expansive, six-part portrait of a legend chronicles the remarkable life of Andy Warhol from the intimate vantage point offered by the artist’s own posthumously published diaries. Beginning with his childhood in Pittsburgh, the series traces Warhol’s almost unbelievably diverse journey fluidly moving between mediums and through eras as an artist — both revered and reviled — director, publisher, TV producer, scene maker, celebrity, and much more.

While he was a larger-than-life figure, Warhol was intensely private regarding his personal life. This series truly reveals much about the very complex man through his own words — often in his own voice through the use of cutting-edge AI techniques — and those who worked, created, and played alongside him from the subversive to the mainstream, from John Waters to Rob Lowe.

Executive produced by Murphy, Josh Braun, Stanley Buchthal, Alexis Martin Woodall, Scott Robertson and Rossi and written and directed by Rossi, The Andy Warhol Diaries deftly validates Warhol’s belief that the idea is not to live forever but to create art that will.

Amy Schumer writes, directs, executive produces, and serves as showrunner on Hulu’s Life & Beth, a new comedy series set to premiere on March 18, 2022. Oh, and Schumer also stars in the series which draws its title from her middle name.

Discussing her new series during the 2022 Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Amy Schumer confirmed Life & Beth is based on a side of her personality. “I think one of the things that surprised people is that I actually am an introvert. I think so many of us have these conflicting sides of ourselves. And I, as myself, feel supremely confident and also I do consider myself as someone with really low self-esteem,” said Schumer. “I just think we’re all hopefully evolving and trying to become the best versions of ourselves. So, I wanted to show that dynamic.”

The series follows Beth, a Manhattan wine distributor who sets out on a journey to discover her true self and embrace a more authentic life. The first season incorporates a few real events from Schumer’s life, and that helped keep the comedy grounded and real. It also meant there’s a healthy helping of drama tossed in with the comedy.

“I think any show that evokes emotion and thought is worth people’s time, and we really wanted to make something special and grounded in reality but also having fun. Because that’s life is major trauma and pain, and then being able to laugh about it and grow from it is like all we can do. So we wanted a show that represented that,” explained Schumer.

During the TCA panel, Schumer had an interesting answer when asked how she’s managed to nail female loneliness in her comedy. “I think in the trailer there’s a moment where he says, ‘Do you have any pre-existing conditions?’ and she just says, ‘I’m a woman.’ And that’s a very loaded statement. And I can only speak as a white woman, but women have been such an afterthought in everything,” said Schumer. “I had hyperemesis while I was pregnant. I have endometriosis. There’s no studies. There’s next-to-no studies on any female illnesses. You can look at it in that way.

And then also this little girl Alice Tapper, she wrote a book for her Girl Scout Troop that got published called Raise Your Hand because girls stop raising their hands in class. And it’s just part of the culture – the culture I definitely grew up with where it was like the boys are supposed to be funny and the men are supposed to speak, and you just try and look pretty and we’ll call you when we need you. So, all your value is placed on how you look, and you feel pretty powerless.”

Schumer continued: “It can all feel really grim. So the thing that empowered me when I was younger was seeing other women being funny and putting themselves out there, and these strong female characters in stories and the honesty about that struggle. That’s what’s on my mind – just that.”

Schumer hasn’t shied away from sharing her life with audiences. In fact, she views the sharing of her vulnerable or darker moments as a way to alleviate her pain.

“It is sort of therapeutic,” explained Schumer. “I’m careful about what I share about other people and always make sure that they greenlight it and whatever I’m writing, whatever I’m sharing, I make sure that it’s okay with them. But in terms of me sharing stuff about myself, yeah, I don’t know. I’m sure I’ve shared more than some people would have cared me to. But I think it’s helpful. I do. And it feels really great and powerful to feel like you might be making somebody laugh and feel better about themselves.”

Schumer believes comedians who aren’t willing to open up to audiences have a limited shelf life, for the most part. Of course, there are those who managed to withhold everything personal (like Jerry Lewis), but Schumer really enjoys when comedians pull the curtain back and allow audiences into their lives.

“Because however great of a joke writer that you are, that formula is you have to love the person,” said Schumer. “When Lucy stepped out on stage or Totie stepped out on stage, it was like you loved them. I think that’s a powerful thing about comics. The ones you like, you kind of love them and so you want to know who they really are, not just them showing off how great they are at writing jokes.”
