We’ve arrived at the final episode of HBO’s True Detective: Night Country and we’re finally getting answers as to what’s really going on in the town of Ennis, Alaska. More importantly, episode six revealed exactly what happened to the researchers, the whereabouts of Raymond Clark, and who was responsible for Annie Kowtok’s death.
Episode six begins on December 31st, the 14th day of night, with Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) making their way through the ice caves. When Liz hears whispers, Navarro asks, “You feel it too, don’t you?” Navarro thinks she sees something – a body, perhaps – and leads Liz toward it, insisting “it’s here.” Unfortunately, they’re met with blocks of ice.
Suddenly, Navarro falls through the ice and when Liz says she’s going to get help, she falls through as well. There’s no time to think because Navarro spots Raymond Clark (Owen McDonnell), and he runs off. They find equipment with running power, and when Liz looks up, there are bones in the ice. They match the bones in the video Annie K shot while she was being murdered.
As they look around, Liz finds a drill press with a star shape at the end – the same shape as the wounds on Annie K’s body. They also discover how Clark has been getting in and out. There’s a manhole that leads up to the Tsalal Research Station.
Episode five featured a shocking scene of Hank Prior killing Otis Heiss and then Peter killing his own dad when it looked like Hank was going to shoot Liz. The first we see of Peter (Finn Bennett) in the season finale, he’s cleaning up the blood and loading up the dead bodies.
Leah (Isabella LaBlanc) shows up to see Liz but finds Peter there instead. He convinces her to let him give her a ride back to his house.
Kayla (Anna Lambe) stops Peter from leaving and wants to know what is going on. She wonders if Liz made him do something. Peter assures her he needs to do just one more thing and that after he’s done, he wants to leave together. Kayla indicates she agrees by giving him a kiss.
Meanwhile, Liz and Navarro are doing a sweep of the facility and split up. Navarro sees wet footprints and follows them. Clark locks Liz into a cold storage room and as Navarro is still sweeping the halls, Clark surprises Navarro by smashing her in the head with a fire extinguisher.
As Liz is trying to break the glass, Navarro is being dragged by Clark while she’s beginning to wake up. Liz finally breaks the glass and discovers Navarro has now gotten the upper hand and is beating Clark. Liz stops her.
With Clark now taped to a chair, Navarro shows him the video of Annie. She then puts earbuds in his ears and plays the video on a loop, forcing him to hear Annie’s scream over and over again.

After grabbing a snack, Liz and Navarro check on Clark to see if he’s ready to talk. Clark claims he wasn’t there at first when Annie was attacked. He blames himself for what happened because Annie found his notes and figured out what was going on at Tsalal. They were looking for the DNA of a microorganism that could save the world and actually found it. However, they needed the pollution from the mines to make it accessible to extract. The more waste in the ground and in the water, the better the permafrost was for their work. They were pushing the mines to make more pollution.
Clark thinks Annie was trying to find a paper trail to prove the mines were paying them and she destroyed their work. Anders Lund caught her and snapped. Clark tried to help her, but Annie hit him. The rest of the researchers helped kill her while Clark stood by and watched.
A flashback shows Clark believing Annie was dead and taking his shirt off to wipe her face when suddenly she gasps for air. Clark suffocated her with his shirt while crying. Of course, he leaves out the part about being the one who killed her when telling Liz and Navarro what happened.
Navarro informs him that Annie was stabbed 32 times and her tongue was cut out. He swears the researchers didn’t cut out her tongue. They called the mines for help, and he says they sent a cop (Hank) to move her body. He thinks the cop must have cut out her tongue.
“Tell me again that you loved her,” says Navarro. After he does, she pulls her gun on him and Liz leaves the room. Navarro asks if she’s going to stop her, and Liz says no. However, Navarro doesn’t shoot him.
Liz has a flashback of the Wheeler case, and when Navarro joins her in the hallway after deciding not to shoot Clark, Liz admits she was going to kill Wheeler, but Navarro beat her to it.
Minutes later, an orange rolls toward Liz, and she bends down and sees ice on the ground.
Navarro and Liz return to Clark to ask more questions. He claims Annie killed the researchers. He says he kept seeing her and hearing her voice and knew she would come back. The night they all disappeared, Clark yelled, “She’s here! She’s come back!” and took off to the manhole and left the others to hide. Seconds later, a researcher started screaming, “No! Please!”
He continues to insist Annie killed them. Liz questions what happened to Otis then because Annie wasn’t even born when he was attacked. He says that was Annie, too. He claims Annie has been hiding in the caves forever and believes time is a flat circle.
Liz takes a break and leaves Navarro and Clark alone. He begs her to kill him or let him do it himself because he’s tired.
Liz is walking the halls when the lights start to flicker and there’s a whispered, “Please.” She lays down, finds a necklace tangled in her hair, takes it off, and throws it. Strangely, she falls asleep and has a dream about her son. Liz wakes with a jerk and discovers the facility is freezing cold and the power’s out.
Liz finds Navarro outside, standing a few feet from Clark, who’s now dead and frozen solid. They head back inside, and Liz is upset that their only witness is dead. (She was okay with Navarro shooting him earlier but apparently changed her mind.) She blames Navarro for allowing Clark to kill himself and for cutting the power. Navarro claims she didn’t have anything to do with the power going out.
Navarro volunteers to try and get the backup generator started, and as she’s working on it, a ghostly figure of a woman appears in the distance behind her. Liz also works on getting the power back on, using her headlamp to examine an electrical panel. Suddenly, her light goes off and a hubcap rolls by her in the hallway.
Weird things are also happening to Navarro. She hears her name whispered and follows the sound until it tells her to stop. She then experiences a vision of the researchers’ last night and sees Clark seizing and hears him say, “She’s awake.”
While all this is going down, Peter arrives at Rose’s with Hank’s dead body. (He left Otis’ in Hank’s trunk.) He explains that Navarro sent him and asks that she take him to where Julia is. They head out onto the ice, and Rose cuts the air out of Hank’s lungs, so he doesn’t float. However, Peter needs to put his father in the water himself to finish what he started and to close the door.

Back at Tsalal, Liz and Navarro are trying to keep warm when Navarro says there’s something out there calling her. She brings up Holden and claims it should be a comfort to know he’s out there. She’s about to tell Liz what Holden said to her in a vision when Liz orders her to shut up. Liz is furious that Navarro would dare bring up his name and even threatens to shoot her if she doesn’t leave her kid out of it. She wants nothing to do with Navarro’s spirits and ghosts, and no one knows what her son felt while he was trapped in a car and dying.
“I’m not merciful. I’ve got no mercy left,” snarls Liz before walking off.
Liz doesn’t know it, but Leah is leaving her a message telling her not to die out there as she’s finding anything to pile on top of herself to get warm. She spends just a few minutes under the blankets before giving up and going to search for Navarro.
Navarro’s no longer seated by the fire and has walked outside into the deadly storm. Liz steps outside, battling the storm with only a small flashlight to pierce the dark.
Navarro is walking off into the storm while experiencing a vision of walking through the desert. She hears screaming and her ear begins to bleed. She hears, “Come, Evangeline.” A hand reaches out to her as the voice whispers, “Your name is Siqinnaatchiaq.”
Liz continues to track Navarro, calling out her name. She struggles to keep her eyes open against the wind and snow and then hears Holden say, “Mommy.” When she looks down, she believes she sees him under the ice. She breaks through it and falls into the water.
Liz starts to sink and then struggles to get to the surface but can’t. Just as she stops moving, a hand reaches down and pulls her out of the water. Navarro gets to her in the nick of time and brings her inside the facility by the fire. As Navarro tries to get her to breathe, memories of Holden and her husband fill Liz’s head.
Finally, Liz returns to the living and asks Navarro what Holden said to her. “He says that he sees you. He sees you, Liz,” replies Navarro.
It’s now January 1st, the 15th day of night and the storm is over. Liz reminds Navarro she once said she wanted just to walk away and tells her to come back if she does. Navarro references something Clark said about holding a hatch and being in the dark and admits that’s what she feels like she’s been doing for so long.
The mention of holding the hatch gives Liz an idea. She pours chemicals on the hatch to the caves and Navarro holds a UV light over it. Different handprints show up, but one stands out. The pinkie and ring finger are missing from it. A matching handprint was discovered on the researchers’ clothes when they were found dead. And the woman who was the victim of domestic abuse in episode one was missing those fingers.
They were asking the wrong question. The question isn’t who killed Annie K, but who knows who killed her.
They visit Beatrice Malee and Blair Hartman (the missing fingers woman), now armed with the right questions. Beatrice reveals that for six years they believed the mine killed Annie but one day while they were mopping the Tsalal floors, they found the hatch that led to the ice caves. That led to the discovery of the star-shaped murder weapon.
As Beatrice is telling the story, the room behind her fills with women.
Beatrice continues with her story, revealing that after discovering the researchers killed Annie K, a large group of well-armed Native American women went into the facility and forced the researchers into a truck. Only Clark escaped by climbing into the cave and holding onto the hatch from underneath.
Beatrice, who claims this is just a story, says that when they arrived at their final destination, the women ordered the men out of the truck and into the freezing cold darkness. They were told to take off their clothes and walk into the darkness.
Beatrice says the men did this to themselves when they dug in “her” home in the ice and when they killed Annie in there. If she wants the men, she could take them. If not, their clothes – folded and carefully placed in piles – would be there for them.
They died, which means she wanted them. “I guess she ate their f**king dreams from the inside out,” says Beatrice.
Again, Beatrice says this is just a story. The close-knit group of women asks what Navarro and Liz are going to do about it. Navarro says a story is just a story, and Liz says those men died from a slab avalanche. Navarro wonders if they left Annie’s tongue there, and Beatrice claims she doesn’t know what Navarro is talking about.

Fast-forward to May 12th and it’s the first long day of the year. Liz is giving her deposition on the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Hank Prior. She says Otis’s body was found in Hank’s car and that the bullet was from Hank’s gun. The investigators point out she was the one who checked Otis out of The Lighthouse.
They want to know if she finds it odd that Clark died the same way the researchers did, and she agrees it is odd. They also want to know what happened to Navarro. A flashback shows that at some point, Liz went to Navarro’s place and she was gone. She left behind the stuffed polar bear with one eye and her phone. The phone contained a video of Clark admitting to what he and the mining company had been doing.
Liz is asked who leaked the video, which led to the mine shutting down, and she claims to have no idea.
As True Detective: Night Country draws to a close, Liz is asked once again about Evangeline Navarro’s whereabouts. Liz tells the panel that she believes no one will find Evangeline out on the ice.
We see Peter lying in bed with his son and a happy Liz and Leah driving together. The final scene is of Liz at a house we don’t recognize. She walks out onto a deck and sits down. Navarro comes and stands outside with her as, in a voiceover, Liz wraps up her deposition by admitting sightings of Navarro might be true.
CBS’s The Equalizer season four episode two finds McCall searching for a street racer. Directed by Slick Naim from a script by Joseph C. Wilson, episode two – “Full Throttle” – will air on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 8pm ET/PT.
Queen Latifah returns to star as Robyn McCall in season four of the popular action drama. The cast also includes Tory Kittles as Detective Marcus Dante, Adam Goldberg as Harry Keshegian, Liza Lapira as Melody “Mel” Bayani, and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Delilah. Lorraine Toussaint plays Viola “Vi” Marsette.
“Full Throttle” Plot: After a young girl is struck by a car in an illegal street race, McCall tracks down the person responsible for the hit-and-run. Meanwhile, Dee contemplates the idea of following in her mother’s footsteps to join the armed forces.
The Equalizer is a reimagining of the classic series starring Academy Award nominee and multi-hyphenate Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn. McCall presents to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is The Equalizer – an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who’s also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.
Robyn’s clandestine work and her personal life collide when her smart and observant daughter, Delilah, and her aunt Vi, who lives with Robyn to help her balance life as a working mother, discover her secret career as a vigilante. While Robyn contends with uncertainty at home, she is joined in her pursuit of justice by Melody “Mel” Bayani, an edgy bar owner and sniper from Robyn’s past; and Harry Keshegian, a paranoid and brilliant white-hat hacker.
As Robyn aids the oppressed and exploited, she sometimes works with Marcus Dante, an NYPD detective who once sought to uncover her identity, but now respects the need for Robyn’s type of justice even as he often questions her methods.

Despite following the longest Super Bowl in history, CBS’s Tracker debuted to huge numbers (18.4 million viewers). The network hopes those viewers stick around for the entire season as the show settles into its Sundays at 9pm ET/PT time slot with episode two.
And now on to a recap of episode two, “Missoula,” which aired on February 18, 2024. Spoilers ahead – you’ve been warned!
Colter’s mom, Mary, discovers an ominous post-it note in her living room that reads, “I’m watching you.” She also discovers the door to a building on her property has had its lock broken, and papers are strewn about inside.
Mary immediately calls Colter (Justin Hartley), and he arrives later that evening. He and his mom walk through his dad’s office and nothing’s missing. At this point, she thinks she overreacted and it was just random kids. Apparently, there have been reports of break-ins in the area.
Mary apologizes and turns down his suggestion to install cameras. She doesn’t need Colter to stick around, and when Teddi (Robin Weigert) calls with a job in Montana, she all but pushes him out the door. The subject of the new case is Jackson Cheong, a 27-year-old accountant in Missoula. His parents, Mark and Eden, posted the reward.
Colter speaks with the parents and learns Jackson is shy and recently became involved with a woman named Rebecca Smith, who’s 20 years his senior. Jackson suddenly quit his job, left his apartment, and emptied his bank accounts, and his mom is frantic. Plus, they can’t find anything on Rebecca online.
Eden explains her son changed after becoming involved with Rebecca. He looked exhausted the last time they saw him, and he told his parents he could get in trouble if anyone learns what he’s doing to help Rebecca. Mark suspects he’s helping Rebecca launder money.
Bobby’s search for Rebecca Smith is underway, and he hasn’t come up with any facial recognition matches that go with that name. But a Rebecca Pendergast’s mug shot matches the photo Colter got from Jackson’s parents. She was arrested for insurance, mail fraud, and tax evasion, but the charges were dropped.
Jackson took out a life insurance policy and named Rebecca the beneficiary, and Colter thinks she’s a con artist. He visits the address on the policy, but no one answers the door. Screaming in the garage gets his attention and he kicks open the door, stunned by what’s inside. There’s a desk with two huge monitors and what looks like a dozen streaming surveillance videos. One video clearly shows Jackson working at a desk.
Two security guys show up and Colter gets into a fistfight, taking one down. However, Colter’s no match for the one holding a gun. Colter explains he’s on a missing person case and looking for Jackson Cheong. The name doesn’t ring a bell with the security guys, and Colter, realizing they aren’t going to call the cops, drives off.
Colter admits to being worried about this case in a call to Teddi, describing Rebecca’s setup and hired goons. He’s not sure what to think yet and needs more answers, so he follows the security team. They lead him to a building that houses Positive Light, an organization dedicated to creating “a new world, a new you,” according to its posters.
Colter stands at the back of a crowded meeting room as Rebecca introduces the group’s leader, Seth, to a round of applause. The security guard fills Rebecca in on Colter, and Rebecca tells Seth about Colter – who in turn points him out to the attendees.
Rebecca exits the building and speeds out of the parking lot. Colter’s not fast enough to follow her.
Colter meets with Jackson’s parents and explains Jackson’s caught up in a cult. They’ve separated Jackson from his former life and loved ones to isolate him. Colter can’t get him out if he doesn’t want to leave. However, he won’t give up on the case yet.
Colter tasks Teddi and Velma (Abby McEnany) with digging up anything they can on Positive Light before he visits their headquarters.
The following day, he makes it to their main complex, which resembles a large camp. Rebecca claims Jackson isn’t being kept against his will and has found a home with them. His financial skills are being put to good use.
Colter will be allowed to meet with Jackson, but first, he needs to meet with Seth. They video the encounter, and Seth attempts to get inside Colter’s head by revealing they’ve done their research on Colter and know about his family – including his father’s death. Colter doesn’t open up, but Seth claims he can read the pain in his face.
The bizarre meeting concludes, and Colter’s allowed to visit Jackson. After Colter leaves the meeting room, Seth assures Rebecca that Jackson is one of theirs. But if Colter does influence him, then Colter will need to die.
Colter speaks to Bobby before meeting with Jackson and confirms that, yes, Positive Light is super weird. There’s nothing negative about them online, but many lawsuits were settled or dropped. Bobby also discovered David Grassley, the financial guy Positive Light used before Jackson, is dead. He died in a hit-and-run accident, and the driver was never identified. David’s wife thinks the cops screwed up the investigation on purpose. However, she eventually moved to southern Wyoming and stopped discussing the case.
Colter believes Velma and Teddi should pay her a visit.
Jackson speaks with Colter and claims he’s happy and not going home. Jackson says that when Seth looks at him, he feels free of everything that holds him back. Colter asks if Seth or Rebecca are ever mean, and Jackson doesn’t give him a straight answer. Colter hands him his business card and tells him to reach out if he ever needs to talk.
Later, Colter receives a text from Jackson arranging a meetup at the delivery entrance at 8pm. But instead of Jackson, Rebecca and her security guys meet Colter at the gate. She claims Jackson is currently at a healing retreat and that she’s the one who texted Colter – not Jackson. Rebecca warns him that if he continues this investigation, they’ll be forced to defend themselves.
Colter fills Velma and Teddi in on Jackson’s importance to the group and that they won’t let him go without a fight. Velma and Teddi met with David’s widow and learned he tried to leave after discovering Rebecca and Seth were draining their followers’ bank accounts. The widow is sure that they killed him.
David’s widow knows Seth has photos of the hit-and-run and even a video because Seth and Rebecca filmed everything. The evidence is kept in Seth’s office at the instructional center. Velma says the files of everyone Seth’s ever met are in that office.
Seth showed the widow the photos to keep her quiet, and Velma and Teddi found her credible.
Colter’s forced to hang up because he’s being followed. His tail doesn’t even attempt to blend in, and Colter finally has had enough. He suddenly brakes and leaps out of his truck. Holding the driver at gunpoint, Colter demands to be driven to Seth’s office. Once there, Colter locks his reluctant driver in the trunk of his own car.
Colter discovers David Grassley’s folder, and the photos of the hit-and-run are inside it. The stills are from a dashcam video and show David being hit and then thrown onto the car’s hood. Colter calls Teddi, confirms he has the photos, and then asks her to send the cops to his location.
Colter also discovers a folder and video labeled Rebecca Pendergast. He puts it in his backpack and then spots his own folder and video. A noise gets his attention and he draws his gun, following the sound upstairs. He discovers Jackson and shows him photos of David Grassley’s murder; Jackson had no idea they killed his predecessor.
Jackson doesn’t recognize the name Rebecca Pendergast so Colter shows him her video. And, speak of the devil, Rebecca shows up with her gun pointed at Colter. She announces that security is on the way as Seth appears and reminds Colter this is his second time breaking and entering. Colter says the cops are already on the way as Seth warns that charges will be pressed this time.
Jackson’s upset that Rebecca lied to him and calls her and Seth shameless, selfish murderers. Jackson tosses the folder at Rebecca and then tackles her as Colter, Seth, and the security guy go for Rebecca’s fallen gun. Colter throws the security guy out the window and pulls his gun, warning Seth to stop reaching for Rebecca’s.
The cops arrive, and Seth and Rebecca are taken away in handcuffs.
Colter delivers Jackson to his parents, assuring him he’ll be fine. He also reminds Jackson that he has people who really love him.
Before driving away, Colter pauses for a minute and looks at his own folder. He closes it quickly and then drives off.
Jennifer Esposito reprises her role as Danny’s old partner, Jackie Curatola, on CBS’s Blue Bloods season 14 episode two. Directed by Jackeline Tejada from a script by Siobhan Byrne O’Connor, episode two – “Dropping Bombs” – airs on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10pm ET/PT.
Tom Selleck returns to lead the cast as Frank Reagan. Donnie Wahlberg stars as Danny Reagan, Bridget Moynahan plays Erin Reagan, Will Estes is Jamie Reagan, Len Cariou is Henry Reagan, Marisa Ramirez plays Maria Baez, and Vanessa Ray stars as Eddie Janko.
“Dropping Bombs” Plot: Danny and Baez join forces with Danny’s old partner, Jackie Curatola (Esposito), when a serial killer reappears. Also, Eddie faces backlash whens she tries to help a woman who accuses a sergeant of rape. Jamie clashes with his nephew, Joe Hill (Will Hochman), when Joe interferes with Jamie’s undercover operation; and Frank is blindsided when Mayor Chase publicly suggests bringing back a Commission of Police.
Blue Bloods is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Frank Reagan is the New York Police Commissioner, and heads both the police force and the Reagan brood. He runs his department as diplomatically as he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his unapologetically bold father, Henry, during his stint as chief.
A source of pride and concern for Frank is his eldest son, Danny, a seasoned detective, family man, and Iraq War vet who on occasion uses dubious tactics to solve cases with his partner Detective Maria Baez. Erin, the middle daughter, is a New York assistant D.A. who serves as the legal compass for her siblings and father. Jamie is the youngest Reagan, a Harvard Law graduate, and the family’s golden boy. Unable to deny the family tradition, Jamie decided to give up a lucrative future in law and follow in the family footsteps as a cop. He’s found a friend and ally in his wife, Eddie, who keeps him on his toes and has very different reasons than the Reagans for joining the police force.

CBS’s Fire Country finally returned after a long break with season two episode one, airing on February 16, 2024. The episode found Manny getting demoted, Eve getting promoted, Gabriela engaged to Diego, and Bode out of prison and back at Three Rock. Season two episode two, directed by series star Kevin Alejandro, will involve the team handling a cave rescue.
Episode two is set to air on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 9pm ET/PT.
Max Thieriot leads the cast as Bode, Billy Burke plays Vince, Kevin Alejandro is Manny, and Diane Farr is Sharon. Stephanie Arcila stars as Gabriela, Jordan Calloway is Jake, and Jules Latimer plays Eve.
“Like Breathing Again” Plot: While breaking up a bonfire party, the Station 42 crew is called to complete a dangerous and highly complex cave rescue.
Fire Country stars Max Thieriot as Bode Donovan, a young convict seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining a prison release firefighting program in Northern California, where he and other inmates are partnered with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires across the region. It’s a high-risk, high-reward assignment, and the heat is turned up when Bode is assigned to the program in his rural hometown, where he was once a golden all-American son until his troubles began.
Five years ago, Bode burned down everything in his life, leaving town with a big secret. Now he’s back, with the rap sheet of a criminal and the audacity to believe in a chance for redemption with Cal Fire.
