‘Wednesday’ Series Opens the Doors of the Nevermore Academy

Netflix is kicking up the publicity campaign for Wednesday, The Addams Family spinoff premiering sometime this fall, with an invitation to join the titular character at Nevermore Academy. The fictitious school’s official website greets visitors with a quiz to make sure the school’s the right fit, with questions including how you feel about fitting in and whether your peers understand you.

The Nevermore Academy application breaks from the norm by asking which outcast group you identify with: vampire, gorgon, werewolf, or siren. Or, if none of those fit, you can select “I can’t describe it.” For the purpose of writing this piece, I chose vampire. That led to a question about the academic area I’m interested in and I picked supernatural studies. (Vampire sex ed was among the choices, but let’s keep this PG.)

The last step in the application process requires personal details, including an email and physical address. If you proceed and enter your info, you’ll receive further info in the coming weeks along with a downloadable profile picture.

The Nevermore Academy website also includes details on the school’s noteworthy alumni, a video featuring Principal Larissa Weems (embedded above), and a list of upcoming activities including Parent’s Day and The Poe Cup competition.

Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega in the title role. Gwendoline Christie is Principal Larissa Weems, Jamie McShane plays Sheriff Galpin, Percy Hynes White is Xavier Thorpe, Hunter Doohan is Tyler Galpin, and Emma Myers plays Enid Sinclair. Joy Sunday is Bianca Barclay, Naomi J Ogawa stars as Yoko Tanaka, Moosa Mostafa is Eugene Ottinger, Georgie Farmer is Ajax Petropolus, Riki Lindhome is Dr. Valerie Kinbott, and The Addams Family‘s Christina Ricci plays Marilyn Thornhill.

Guest stars include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Addams family matriarch Morticia and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams. Isaac Ordonez plays Pugsley Addams, Iman Marson is Lucas Walker, and Lucius Hoyos is Young Gomez.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are the writers, executive producers, and season one showrunners. Tim Burton, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman, Tommy Harper, and Kevin Lafferty are also involved as executive producers.

Wednesday will premiere on November 23, 2022.

‘Strange World’ Trailer: Disney Takes Audiences on an Out of This World Adventure

The new Strange World trailer asks if we’ve ever wondered what adventures await beyond our world. I can answer that. No, not really. Negotiating the adventures this world keeps me busy enough, thank you very much. That said, the trailer and its weird and wooly beasties – as well as one very cute three-legged dog – seems inviting enough to make it worthwhile spending a few hours in this animated world.

The voice cast is led by Jake Gyllenhaal and includes Dennis Quaid, Jaboukie Young-White, Gabrielle Union, and Lucy Liu. Big Hero 6‘s Don Hall directs from a screenplay by co-director Qui Nguyen (Raya and the Last Dragon). Tangled‘s Roy Conli produces.

“Inspired by classic adventure stories,” stated director Don Hall, “Strange World is an original animated adventure/comedy about three generations of the Clade family who overcome their differences while exploring a strange, wondrous, and oftentimes hostile world.”

Strange World is set to open in theaters on November 23, 2022.

The Plot: The feature film introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog and a slew of ravenous creatures.

  • Searcher Clade (Gyllenhaal) is a family man who finds himself out of his element on an unpredictable mission.
  • Jaeger Clade (Quaid) is Searcher’s larger-than-life explorer father.
  • Ethan Clade (Young-White) is Searcher’s 16-year-old son who longs for adventure.
  • Meridian Clade (Union) is an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things.
  • Callisto Mal (Lucy Liu) is Avalonia’s fearless leader who spearheads the exploration into the strange world.

The Resident Season 6, Courtesy of Fox:

The compelling medical drama The Resident follows the doctors and nurses at Chastain Memorial Park Hospital. They work tirelessly to solve intricate medical cases, stopping at nothing to save their patients while facing challenges in their own lives.

Season five was a tumultuous journey, as our heroes at Chastain weathered several storms, including the devastating loss of the beloved Nurse Practitioner Nicolette Nevin. Now, entering a cutting-edge and electrifying sixth season, the stakes are at an all-time high. This season, pertinent topics are touched upon that push our characters to the limit while fighting for their patients’ lives. The season kicks off six months after we’ve last seen our heroes at Chastain. Chastain’s quality of care is put at risk and it’s up to our doctors to shine a light on the effects political corruption has on the healthcare system.

In the season premiere, DR. CONRAD HAWKINS (Czuchry) cozies up with his new love interest. Who will it be, DR. BILLIE SUTTON (Lucas) or DR. KINCAID (CADE) SULLIVAN (Kaley Ronayne)? Conrad’s journey continues as he balances his new love life, single fatherhood and saving patients at Chastain. Elsewhere, we’re catapulted into a gripping medical emergency for PADMA DEVI (guest star Aneesha Joshi) and her unborn twins, that will showcase the skills of Chastain’s new top pediatric surgeon, DR. IAN SULLIVAN (McCarthy), as he hides a dark secret surrounding addiction. If Ian’s secret leaks, it can cost him his job and his relationship with his daughter, Cade.

Stepping into fatherhood, we’ll see another side of the “Raptor” or DR. AJ AUSTIN (Warner) as he supports Padma all the way. The power couple DR. DEVON PRAVESH (Dayal) and DR. LEELA DEVI (Joshi) shine as Devon leads his own clinical trials and Leela is appointed Chief Resident. Chastain’s CEO, DR. KIT VOSS (Leeves), feels the stress of running a hospital when resources are low, and a new potential governor threatens to cut Chastain’s funding, all while supporting her love DR. RANDOLPH BELL (Greenwood) through his battle with MS.

This is a season of renewal and transformation for the doctors at Chastain as they step into new phases of their personal and professional lives.

‘Halloween Ends’ Behind the Scenes Featurette with Jamie Lee Curtis

The new behind the scenes video from Universal Pictures’ Halloween Ends features Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis talking about the upcoming film as well as her experiences as the star of the horror franchise. “In 1978 I had no idea what the worldwide love and affection for Lori Strode and Michael Myers would be. That is the heart and soul of these Halloween movies,” says Curtis.

Becoming emotional, Curtis adds: “It will be difficult to say goodbye to Lori Strode.”

The minute-long video ends with the crew clapping as Jamie Lee Curtis wraps up her time on a Halloween set.

The cast of what’s described as the final entry in the Halloween franchise also includes Andi Matichak, James Jude Courtney, Will Patton, Rohan Campbell, and Kyle Richards. The Plot, Courtesy of Universal Pictures:

After 45 years, the most acclaimed, revered horror franchise in film history reaches its epic, terrifying conclusion as Laurie Strode faces off for the last time against the embodiment of evil, Michael Myers, in a final confrontation unlike any captured on-screen before. Only one of them will survive.

Icon Jamie Lee Curtis returns for the last time as Laurie Strode, horror’s first “final girl” and the role that launched Curtis’ career. Curtis has portrayed Laurie for more than four decades now, one of the longest actor-character pairings in cinema history. When the franchise relaunched in 2018, Halloween shattered box office records, becoming the franchise’s highest-grossing chapter set a new record for the biggest opening weekend for a horror film starring a woman.

Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Campbell), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.
