‘Lucifer’ Season 3 Episode 21 Recap: “Anything Pierce Can Do I Can Do Better”

Lucifer Season 3 Episode 21 Recap

Fox’s Lucifer season three episode 21 kicks off with the death of a talented ballerina. Alone while practicing her routine, she’s attacked from behind and choked to death.

The action at Pierce’s place picks up right where season three episode 20 left off. Lucifer (Tom Ellis) can’t believe Pierce’s mark is gone, with Pierce (Tom Welling) explaining his plan must have worked. He thinks Chloe’s love is what made his mark disappear, the same way Lucifer can bleed in her presence. Pierce admits he tried to stop her from saying she loved him, but Lucifer believes God took the mark away as a way to screw with him. However, Lucifer’s more than happy to kill Pierce at this point since that’s what he’s always wanted. Lucifer picks up a rock, says, “Let’s rock and roll,” and is about to do the deed when Pierce stops him.

Chloe (Lauren German) shows up at work and it’s obvious to Ella (Aimee Garcia) that something’s wrong. Chloe’s wearing sunglasses at work and Ella figures out she’s been crying. Chloe admits she and Pierce broke up, but she doesn’t really understand why. It could be an intimacy thing and she blames herself, but Ella won’t let her get away with that. She wants to go yell at Pierce, but Chloe stops her.

It was only a temporary halt in Ella’s mission as once Chloe walks away, Ella yells at Pierce anyway. He claims he broke things off so as not to hurt her but then he suddenly realizes he can now actually grow old with her. He wants to win her back!

Chloe meets Lucifer at the ballerina’s murder scene and volunteers to be a sounding board if she needs one. Just then Pierce rides up on his motorcycle and Lucifer wonders why he’s not dead yet. Pierce apologizes to Chloe in person and admits he’s not used to feeling this way. He blurts out, “I love you,” and Chloe’s speechless and doesn’t know how to respond. She doesn’t say it back and claims they’re just words. She no longer trusts him. (Wise move, Chloe.)

Ballerina Reina Markova was a prima ballerina who liked to rehearse alone. Ella estimates she’s been dead for 10 hours and Lucifer compares that to the time of death of Chloe’s relationship with Pierce. Turns out Reina was killed with shoelaces – but not her own. Dan (Kevin Alejandro) arrives and is happy to hear Pierce is a thing of the past.

Chloe warns Lucifer that her relationship with Pierce is none of his business. She’s not sure if she’s taking Pierce back. As she’s walking away, she scratches Lucifer and he bleeds. He’s pleased to see the blood, believing it means he’s still important to Chloe.

Lucifer barges into Dr. Linda’s office, happy Chloe still makes him bleed. He catches Linda (Rachael Harris) up on Pierce losing his mark and says that Chloe’s love is what makes him vulnerable and made Pierce vulnerable. If Chloe cares for them, they can be hurt or killed. But since he can still bleed, that must mean Chloe’s on the fence between him and Pierce. He needs to tip the scales in his favor to save her from Pierce. He decides that means he needs to show Chloe he’s better than Pierce in every possible way.

After he leaves her office, Linda wonders if maybe this time she actually should have stopped Lucifer from whatever he has planned. (Yes, Dr. Linda – follow your instincts on this one!)

Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) pays a visit to Pierce at work and he confirms they’re calling off their plan. He explains he broke up with her and that he no longer wants to use Chloe. Maze doesn’t want their plan to end because her side of the arrangement has always been to hang Pierce’s murder on Lucifer which will wreck his life. It’s the only way she can get back to Hell. Pierce doesn’t care; the plan is off.

A pissed-off Maze leaves, but she’s not giving up on her plan.

Lucifer brings Chloe a latte and a single lemon bar. Dan walks up, grabs a lemon bar from a full tray on Chloe’s desk, and munches away. He spits out what’s left when Ella arrives and explains Pierce baked them.

Ella reports the ballet shoe had traces of olive oil, Evian, and beeswax. Lucifer jokes, “So the killer’s a bumblebee with expensive taste.” However, Chloe and Ella know ballerinas use different means to condition their shoes.

Chloe and Lucifer head over and question Amber Fontaine, Reina’s understudy. (And, yes, that is Robert Roldan from So You Think You Can Dance as Miguel, one of the dancers.) Amber claims the killer must have stolen her shoes from her locker which was also Reina’s locker at some point. She claims she’s not ready to step into the spotlight and wanted to learn more from Reina. She then reveals Reina was going to host America’s Next Prima Ballerina but decided not to.

Chloe thinks they need to find out why Reina turned down the hosting gig.

When Chloe and Lucifer exit the studio, they discover Pierce has filled Chloe’s car with roses. That prompts Lucifer to meet with Amenadiel (DB Woodside) to devise a plan to get rid of Pierce. Amenadiel nixes any plan that involves killing Pierce, and then Lucifer decides killing Pierce isn’t the goal. The goal is for Chloe to pick him over Pierce, and Amenadiel’s all in on that plan. Lucifer believes they need to prove to Chloe that Pierce isn’t the man she thinks he is. And then it slips out Pierce is the man behind Sinnerman, something Amenadiel didn’t know.

Next up, Chloe, Lucifer, and Ella watch a tape of choreographer Myles Drucker, the creator of America’s Next Prima Ballerina who lost his leg in a car crash. He lost a lot of money when Reina backed out of hosting, and Lucifer wonders if he took it in stride. (Nope, not a single laugh from Chloe or Ella at the now one-legged Myles’ expense.)

Chloe and Lucifer interrogate Myles at the station and he doesn’t care Reina is dead. He calls her unprofessional and claims he didn’t want to work with her. Lucifer uses his Jedi mind trick to learn Myles wishes the car crash didn’t happen, confessing the car crash didn’t crush his leg. He admits the accident generated sympathy and made his career. He also admits he wears a prosthetic leg over his perfectly fine real leg.

Myles received a video threatening to expose him unless he gave Reina a job, but it turns out Reina didn’t send the video. The video was sent from her email address and when he confronted her, she got angry and quit because she didn’t want any handouts.

Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) is relaxing at a hotel, drinking and preparing for her eventual trip to Hell. Amenadiel stops by to ask her to help him prove Pierce was behind Sinnerman, explaining Pierce was leading a double life. He then explains he wants Pierce out of the picture so Lucifer can be with Chloe. Amenadiel lets Charlotte in on the secret that Chloe was placed on this earth to cross paths with Lucifer, and bringing them together is his final task. If he gets them together, God will restore him.

Charlotte figures out that if she helps Amenadiel, it might put her in God’s good graces. She immediately springs into action.

Lucifer’s proud of himself for getting so much info from Myles. They have nothing left to do that evening on the case and Lucifer suggests they go for a drive as he’s walking Chloe to her car. She laughs but then becomes very quiet when he offers her the keys to a car he bought her – a Mustang G.T. 500. She can’t believe he got her a car and then figures out Lucifer thinks he’s competing with Pierce. She hands him back the keys and tells him, “It’s not about stuff.”

Maze is at Chloe’s place when Chloe wakes up. Maze apologizes and wants back in the house, saying she heard Chloe and Pierce broke up. She offers to hurt Pierce for her ex-roommate. Chloe admits she’s confused and then lays out what happened. She admits she doesn’t know what to think and doesn’t trust Pierce. Maze says she never trusts anyone. Trixie interrupts Maze and Chloe talking, and then immediately leaves the room.

Dan calls Chloe with the news that the email with the video was sent from an address belonging to William Sterling, chairman of the board of LA West Ballet. Chloe heads over to the place to check it out and Lucifer’s already there because he wanted to take things off her plate. Sterling’s not there and Lucifer says an attractive neighbor let him in.

There are photos of Sterling with Reina all over the place as well as her lingerie. Her old costumes are in the closet, too, and Lucifer believes this is all because Sterling’s a sicko stalker. Chloe, on the other hand, thinks it’s because Reina lived there with Sterling.

Just then Sterling arrives and Lucifer immediately slams him against the wall. Chloe tells Lucifer to let him go because he and Reina were having an affair. Sterling claims Reina was the love of his life.

Chloe asks if he sent Myles the blackmail video, but he denies knowing anything about it. Since the email came from this physical address, he thinks someone might have snuck onto Reina’s computer.

Meanwhile, Amenadiel and Charlotte spy on Pierce as he sits with a known fence. Charlotte’s willing to do whatever it takes to find out about the envelope the fence hands to Pierce since she’s working with God. When Pierce leaves, Charlotte steals a motorcycle claiming she’s doing so for God.

She races after Pierce and follows him into a parking lot. Pierce figures out he’s being followed and confronts her. Charlotte whips off the helmet and makes up a story about how she’s attracted to him and wanted him since he broke up with Chloe. He stops her, saying he’s in love with Chloe.

Chloe, Ella, Lucifer, and Dan watch the video which exposes Myles’ lie. The video was on Reina’s computer, but they can’t trace who created it. If the killer wore gloves, they won’t get anything from Reina’s computer.

Their discussion is interrupted by a call from Pierce. Lucifer tries to hit ignore but Chloe answers. They eavesdrop as Chloe talks to Pierce. He wants her to meet him at his place that evening, promising he won’t bother her again.

Lucifer knows Chloe’s about to make a decision and asks if he can share some thoughts before she does. She agrees and tells him to spill whatever he wants to say. Dan and Ella continue to listen in so Lucifer asks her to meet him at his place in one hour.

Lucifer lights candles and has dinner and wine ready when Chloe arrives. Chloe’s confused and Lucifer says all this is to help her make an “appropriate” decision about her/their future. He wants to ask her a very important question: “Isn’t this better than anything Pierce could do?” Chloe’s stunned that’s the important question he wanted answered and hurt he did this just to show up Pierce. With tears in her eyes, she asks why he’s doing this to her. She can’t understand why he would care who she’s with. Lucifer says it’s because Pierce doesn’t deserve her. She asks who does and he replies, “Someone better.” (Damn you, Lucifer! Tell her what she wants to hear!) The phone rings and it’s Dan and Ella saying they have a lead. They spotted a figure in the window’s reflection in the video and have figured out the person who shot the video is Miguel. (SYTYCD’s Robert has the honor of being the episode’s big villain.)

Chloe and Lucifer arrive at a performance and Miguel’s on stage. He got rid of Reina so he could be with her understudy, which is obvious to Chloe and Lucifer when they watch Miguel and Amber dance together. Sterling arrives and screams at Miguel for taking Reina away and then fires a shot into the ceiling.

Chloe instructs Sterling to drop the weapon (he doesn’t) and Lucifer gets in between Sterling and Miguel. Lucifer believes Miguel didn’t want to kill Reina, he just wanted to get her out of the way. Sterling thought Miguel cared for Reina and Lucifer explains she was an obstacle to Miguel’s being with Amber. Reina found out Miguel blackmailed Myles to get her out of the company and onto the show, and she threatened to ruin his career. Miguel wouldn’t be able to dance in the company with Amber ever again, and he couldn’t let that happen. Chloe wants to know why Miguel didn’t tell Amber the truth, and Amber confesses she has feelings for Miguel.

Lucifer addresses Miguel, telling him he could have had everything he wanted if he just revealed to Amber how he felt. Miguel’s placed under arrest and led away. Lucifer watches Chloe leave and realizes he also blew it by not expressing his feelings.

After being stood up by Chloe, Pierce heads over to her place. After he leaves, Charlotte and Amenadiel look for the envelope he received from the fence. It’s on the table but it’s empty and they realize he took the contents with him. Amenadiel thinks they’re too late but Charlotte won’t give up. “You don’t quit when you’re doing God’s work,” she says.

Lucifer’s at home, alone, drowning his sorrows when Dr. Linda arrives and apologizes. Lucifer admits he screwed things up by trying to get Pierce out of the picture instead of telling Chloe how he really feels. Linda wonders why he’s so afraid and he confesses it’s because neither he nor Chloe have a choice. This is all part of his dad’s master plan to toy with them. Linda thinks that’s an excuse and that he’s taking Chloe’s choice away by not telling her how he feels. Linda reminds him they’re all just guessing what Lucifer’s dad’s really responsible for. She asks, “What do you truly desire?” He replies, “I want her to choose me.” (Another heartbreaking performance by Tom Ellis.)

Lucifer drives to Chloe’s but Pierce has beat him to her place. Pierce admits he screwed up and wants to make things better. He confesses she gives his life meaning and asks if she’ll let him spend the rest of his days making it up to her. He gets down on one knee and proposes. Chloe says yes. (That sound you heard at 8:59pm on April 23, 2018 was Lucifans across the country screaming at their television sets.)

‘Penguins’ Trailer Arrives: Because Who Doesn’t Love Penguins?

The only thing better than a movie about penguins would be a movie about penguins narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch has a very difficult time pronouncing the world “penguin” for some odd reason (check out the video here), and if Team Disney was smart they’d sign him up to narrate their 2019 Penguins to add additional buzz to the Disneynature theatrical release.

Penguins is set to open in theaters on Earth Day 2019. The film marks the eighth Disneynature theatrical release following 2007’s Earth, 2009’s Oceans, 2011’s African Cats, 2012’s Chimpanzee, 2014’s Bears, 2015’s Monkey Kingdom, and 2017’s Born in China. Narrators of Disneynature’s theatrical releases have included James Earl Jones, Pierce Brosnan, Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Allen, John C. Reilly, Tina Fey, and John Krasinski.

The penguins-centric film comes from the filmmakers behind Bears and Chimpanzee. Alastair Fothergill directed with Mark Linfield and Jeff Wilson co-directing. Fothergill, Linfield, Keith Scholey, and Roy Conli served as producers.

Disneynature is an independent film label within Walt Disney Studios. Per Disney, “Disneynature’s commitment to conservation is a key pillar of the label and the films empower the audience to help make a difference, with each film driving significant conservation outcomes, supporting wildlife featured in the films.”

The Plot: Disneynature’s all-new feature film Penguins is a coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. None of it comes easily for him, especially considering he’s targeted by everything from killer whales to leopard seals, who unapologetically threaten his happily ever after.”

‘Westworld’ Season 2 Episode 1 Recap: “Journey into Night”

Westworld Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
Evan Rachel Wood and James Marsden in ‘Westworld’ season 2 episode 1 (Photo by John P. Johnson/HBO)

Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) and Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) discuss dreams as HBO’s Westworld season two episode one begins. He explains in his dreams she has left him behind as the waters around him rise. He reiterates that it’s not real and dreams don’t mean anything, saying only that which is irreplaceable is real.

Dolores knows he’s not being honest and calls him out. He admits she frightens him and she laughs, wondering why she would ever scare him. He admits he’s frightened of what she might become and the path she might take.

A series of events including Dr. Robert Ford’s death at the hands of Dolores flash through Bernard’s mind. He wakes on the beach, still dressed in a suit and confused about where he is. Security teams find him there and he’s almost shot before he’s recognized by Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth).

Delos staff has apparently expanded to include a well-armed militia with warships. As Bernard is walked through the island park, he watches hosts systemically shot in the head.

Delos has control over the entire island, according to Karl Strand (Gustaf Skarsgard), Head of Operations. (Did we know the park was on an island? I don’t recall that mentioned in season one.) Karl’s commanded the killing of all hosts because this is the location where the “incident” started. It’s been two weeks since that occurred, and Karl and his team are still trying to figure out how the mess began.

Bernard walks through the killing grounds which includes dead bodies of Indians. Karl demands to know what was on the mind of one of the warriors and has the host’s memory examined out in the field which is very unusual. (It’s not sterile.)

The warrior’s scalped to expose the maze imprinted on his skull. His brain’s cut into to retrieve the circuit board which is gently lifted out and examined. When it’s inserted into a tablet, the timestamp from 11 days ago reveals a battle between cowboys and Indians. Dolores is also involved, and she tells the Indian that not all of them deserve to make it to the valley beyond.

Bernard explains to Karl and his team that Dolores is the rancher’s daughter from Sweetwater, but she’s changed her character profile.

Bernard has another flashback to the night of the party (the season one finale). Bernard tells Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) the hosts are all off their loops. Hosts are attacking the partygoers and can shoot to kill. Bernard’s with a group huddled in the barn and they argue over whether to stay or leave the safety of the building. Bernard knows the nearest access point is two miles away, but before they can leave, a stablehand enters to feed the horses. The stablehand says he’ll take them wherever they want to go, but his kindness is greeted with violence from the scared guests. Bernard’s hit in the head in the process of defending the host and a clear liquid leaks from his ear. Fortunately, no one notices.

“The Entertainer” begins playing on a player piano in the saloon. No one’s there to hear it as the patrons are all dead.

Dolores on horseback hunts down more party attendees who’ve managed to flee through the fields. Teddy (James Marsden) is at her side.

Dolores questions one of the guests before hanging him next to some of his friends. She informs him he’s in her dream now and asks if he’s ever questioned the nature of his reality. She informs him the reckoning is here. She has no sympathy for these people, only hoping to punish them. She’s not sure what she wants to do with them, saying the rancher’s daughter in her sees the beauty in them while Wyatt only sees the ugliness. She admits both are just roles she’s forced to play. Now, she’s evolved. Her new role is herself.

The three guests at Dolores’ mercy are strung up and beg for their lives. She leaves them alive but balancing on crosses under a tree, ropes around their necks.

Back at the party in front of the saloon, the dead guests are scattered around. William/The Man in Black (Ed Harris) watches a wolf walk through the dead as he struggles to his feet.

William finds his horse and tells him they’re about to have some fun now. As a guest who managed to survive screams at him, William and the man come under fire. William manages to disarm one host, shoots another, and then slices the neck of the one he disarmed.

William enters a cabin, grabs a bottle of whiskey, and begins cleaning his wounds. He’s injured but not mortally, taking his favorite black hat out of his trunk and placing it back on his head with a smile.

Delos headquarter has also been the scene of a slaughter. The hosts are not behaving and don’t respond to demands to freeze all motor functions.

Maeve (Thandie Newton) rescues Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) from a host who wants to eat him alive. The hosts won’t respond to the Delos employees, but they will respond to Maeve because she has a higher security clearance than anyone. She’s able to freeze the hosts and Lee claims he can help her. She’s searching for someplace specific in the park and Lee reveals the map she’s using is outdated. However, he can tell her where a current map is. She decides he might be useful and allows him to live…for now.

They enter a different section of the building and there are dead bodies there, too. The control room is littered with more dead bodies, including a bear. Lee realizes no one is in control and the headquarters is taking itself offline. Lee asks to see what Maeve is attempting to find, and she hands him the note with the location of her daughter. He tells her it’s in a family-friendly zone and then makes the mistake of going on about how she was saddled with a kid when she was part of that storyline. She wants to get to her child and he promises to help but reminds her her daughter is just a story they programmed. “She’s not real,” says Lee. Maeve replies, “What about me? My dreams? My thoughts? My body? Are they not real?”

She pushes Lee against the wall and threatens to shoot him. Instead, she decides to make him take her to her daughter.

Bernard leads Charlotte and the others in their small group to an outpost. He and Charlotte discuss whether Robert programmed the host to blow his brains out or if Dolores acted of her own free will. As they’re talking, they see a man in white beside a vehicle. Bernard realizes it’s a trap and hides with Charlotte while the rest of his party is slaughtered. Angela (Talulah Riley) leads the killing party, taunting one of the guests and making him run while killing the rest.

Charlotte knows of another outpost and leads Bernard toward it after the rest of their group has been slaughtered.

Lee explains to Maeve they’ll be purging the hosts’ memories at some point when order is restored. However, they’ll want to salvage their minds since they’re worth millions and he believes he can save her. A security team interrupts and Maeve pretends to be human. She acts surprised that hosts are attacking guests, with Lee indicating behind her back that she’s a host. Backup arrives and Maeve, now armed, takes out the security team. She saves Lee even though he gave her up. She warns him not to try that again or she’ll feed him his penis. He recalls he wrote that line for her.

She demands to be taken to the nearest bar. Outside on the deck, all the people who were enjoying food and drinks have been slaughtered.

Although Lee doesn’t want to go into the park, Maeve is ready to force him to enter it to find her daughter. They come upon more dead Delos employees and then Maeve spots Hector (Rodrigo Santoro) who’s drenched in blood after his killing spree. They kiss and then Hector reveals he knows Maeve didn’t stay for him. She says she wants to find her daughter, even though the odds won’t be in her favor. Hector promises to follow wherever she leads.

Westworld Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

Charlotte finds another entry into Delos headquarters hidden in the rocks. An elevator rises out of the dirt and she and Bernard step in. They must touch the handles to have their DNA sniffed before they can enter the building. It will keep them safe inside. (Bernard apparently has DNA.)

Inside, a drone host scares Bernard. It’s a skeleton they have working in this top-secret area.

Charlotte’s able to get a message out saying the situation is critical. Her superiors at Delos (and potential rescuers) demand the package, which Charlotte says she’s already sent.

Bernard watches as the drone hosts are busy with blood and doing something with an incomplete host. It’s a complicated process. Bernard asks if they’re logging guests experiences along with their DNA.

Charlotte’s angry they haven’t received the package. She explains a host was supposed to arrive yesterday, but since it didn’t Delos won’t rescue them. The host is an insurance policy they want secured, no matter the cost.

William rides through the hills and comes upon a bunch of dead people around a campfire. He helps himself to their food and water and is interrupted by young Robert Ford. The kid asks if he’s achieved what he wanted. He informs William that now he’s in his game and in this game, William must find the door. He adds his congratulations and says this game is meant for him.

William shoots young Robert, telling him he doesn’t need him anymore.

Back in the Delos headquarters, Maeve stitches up Hector. Lee brings him some clothes and Maeve demands Lee join them to play a round of this game. He’s forced to strip naked in front of them.

Dolores and Teddy continue their ride, and Teddy’s not sure how to feel about this new world. He asks if this is really what she wants, and she reminds him they never gave them a choice before. “They” are creatures who walk among them and look like them but aren’t them. They took her memories and her life, but now she remembers beautiful and terrible things. She also realizes that in her memories, the one constant thing is Teddy. Teddy believes they don’t have to claim this world, just grab a small corner for themselves. But, she knows there’s a greater world out there that belongs to them and they’re going to have to take that world as well as this one. Teddy wonders how she knows how to stop them, and she admits it’s because she remembers. She sees everything clearly. “I know how this story ends,” says Dolores. When Teddy asks how, she replies, “With us, Teddy. It ends with you and me.”

They kiss, long and deep. The kiss is broken up by Angela who reveals they found it. Dolores wants Teddy to see the truth and he follows her willingly.

Charlotte needs to find the host they were supposed to send out. Bernard explains all hosts have a subconscious link to the host closest to them. He’s going to use one of the hosts in the lab to send out a request to find the host in question. He asks who they’re looking for and Charlotte says it’s a decommissioned host named Peter Abernathy.

Bernard’s hand shakes as he works on a host. He inserts a tube in its arm and sends the message from his tablet. Bernard’s vision blurs and he’s starting to lose consciousness. He looks at the tablet and it reads “Critical Corruption.” He’s entering death shutdown and has 0.72 hours before he’s dead.

No one, including Charlotte, realizes Bernard’s a host and he does his best to disguise that he’s having a major problem. He withdraws fluid from a host and injects himself. He finishes before Charlotte returns, but he still looks weak. Fortunately, the message comes back that they found Peter Abernathy.

Flash-forward to the time period from the beginning of the episode and Bernard and the security team, led by Karl, walk through the dead bodies in front of the saloon. They find Dr. Ford’s dead body and maggots are eating his face. Karl’s still trying to piece together what happened.

After a little more exploring, they come upon a dead tiger at the water’s edge. It’s not supposed to be in this park; it’s supposed to be in park six. Scans come in and they discover all the hosts are clustered together nearby.

The security team finds something else that’s not supposed to be there – a sea. They don’t know where it came from but know Ford didn’t make it. Not even Bernard knows where it came from.

The hosts are all in the sea, dead. No one understands what’s going on. Karl needs Bernard’s help because there are still hundreds of guests out there somewhere. He needs to know what happened and Bernard replies, “I killed them. All of them.”

‘Trust’ Season 1 Episode 5 Recap: “Silenzio”

Trust Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

FX’s Trust hits the halfway point of season one with episode five airing April 22, 2018. Season one episode five titled “Silenzio” begins with Primo (Luca Marinelli) falling asleep in his car after a night of drinking and snorting cocaine. He’s been waiting for the gas station to open so he can grab some gas and burn the evidence. When the station attendant finally gets there, he treats him horribly before demanding gas.

Angelo (Andrea Arcangeli) and Paul (Harris Dickinson) make a run for it through the forest and up the mountain, but Paul’s weak and hasn’t walked in a while. He asks for a minute to sit and then Angelo spots Primo driving back to camp. Angelo wants to take Paul back, but Paul starts running further up the mountain. Because he’s weak, Angelo quickly catches him. Angelo’s going to lie and say Paul escaped, however Paul reminds him he’s the one with the key.

Primo’s happy one of his men shot Paul until he sees the empty grave. Primo’s associate claims he dug the grave and was ready to kill Paul, but when he went to check on Angelo he was gone and Paul’s door was open. Primo tosses his associate in the grave, soaks him in gas, and demands to know how long Paul’s been gone. He’s told it’s been a couple of hours. Whatever he planned to do next is interrupted when a car drives up, honking its horn.

Primo’s uncle, Don Salvatore, and the accountant, Leonardo, arrive wanting to see Paul for themselves. Primo’s forced to tell them Paul’s gone and the news doesn’t go over well. Don Salvatore commands Primo to call Fifty and instruct him to stop talking to the Gettys until he’s told otherwise.

Paul and Angelo continue to make their way up the mountain. Angelo hears bells and Paul, confused, wants to know why Angelo’s panicking. He reveals the bells mean the people have gathered and word has spread to be on the lookout for Paul. Paul mistakenly believes that means he’ll get rescued, but Angelo understands Primo’s put a bounty on their heads. Angelo also knows it means no one will give them shelter.

In the town square, Don Salvatore instructs the people to search for Paul and bring him back alive. The townspeople do as they’re instructed, sending out their hunting dogs who follow Paul’s scent.

Angelo believes he’s going to be killed when he’s found and his family will be cut off from their neighbors. They’ll be ostracized because of his actions.

Angelo continues to lead the way as far behind them the dogs pick up on their scent. They find part of a shoe that was torn off.

Meanwhile, Gail (Hilary Swank) and Chace (Brendan Fraser) continue to wait for a call from the kidnappers. Chace believes the $600 “plus expenses” is a good deal for the kidnappers, but Gail doesn’t think so. She thinks the kidnappers will be insulted and is worried because they haven’t received any counteroffer yet. Chace is sure there will be movement soon.

Gail goes on television and makes a plea to the kidnappers. She wants her son back, playing up the whole “kidnappers have families, too” angle. The reporters ask if she thinks her son is dead and she replies, “He’s just 16.”

Overcome with emotion, Gail ends the press conference.

Paul and Angelo find a patch of blackberries but they’re not ripe. Paul gets to know Angelo a little better and then they hear the dogs approaching. They make a run for it but can see the dogs and their handlers are not far behind. Angelo heads into a small stream to lose the scent. They hide behind some rocks by the stream as over their heads the dogs and men pass by. Angelo wants to run, but Paul thinks they need to stay put.

After the men pass, Paul and Angelo take off running again. They spot a train passing on a nearby bridge and run down the tracks after it. Paul grabs on and is barely able to pull Angelo up. Angelo admits he thought he was dead but Paul reminds him, “Where you go, I go.”

Unfortunately, Angelo’s leg was injured while he struggled to get on the train. Paul thinks they can get him fixed up and then Angelo can accompany him to New York. Angelo’s stunned Paul would take him to America, but Paul reminds him he saved his life. Paul says they’re brothers now and they clasp hands.

Primo and the men continue their hunt through the woods. Primo wants to have a talk with Angelo’s family since their son has caused him so much grief.

J. Paul Getty (Donald Sutherland) receives letters from people all over the world containing whatever small amount of money they’re able to contribute to Paul’s ransom fund. Rather than be moved or impressed, J. Paul is insulted these people believe he can’t pay the ransom money when he fact he said he won’t pay the ransom. J. Paul wants all of it sent back.

J. Paul wonders why the kidnappers haven’t made a counteroffer.

Trust Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Primo spots a pair of glasses by the train tracks along with fresh blood. Primo and Leonardo take off for the car, needing to contact someone who works for the railroad. As they drive, Primo confesses he believes it’s time for Don Salvatore to retire and someone else to take over. Leonardo gets upset, but Primo continues to talk. Primo compares their small operation to the larger ones, saying they’re not getting their share of shakedowns and kickbacks. What they receive under Don Salvatore is nothing compared to what they could be earning. “I don’t want a tiny percentage of what the Gettys have, I wanna be the f**king Gettys,” says Primo.

Paul and Angelo continue their journey by train, unaware Primo’s on to them until cars surround the stopped train at night. They crawl off the train and into the nearby woods and make their way into a river. They follow it for a while and begin walking again, but Paul’s too hungry and thirsty to go any further. He’s in a bad mood and walks away from Angelo, determined to find a house with food and a phone.

Angelo eventually follows Paul and they spot a town. Angelo doesn’t want to enter it, but Paul takes off toward the buildings. They stumble into town and hide from a passing truck. The town’s surprisingly quiet and everyone is indoors, something which makes Paul and Angelo suspicious.

Paul tries multiple doors, but they’re locked and no one opens them. Finally, he locates one that’s open and heads inside. No one seems to be home and he spots a phone. Paul calls his mom as Angelo looks out the windows.

Dogs are heard barking in the streets and Angelo spots Primo and a bunch of men. He grabs Paul away from the phone just as Gail picks up the other end. Paul and Angelo sprint out of the house as Primo and Leonardo enter. Primo picks up the phone and hears Gail on the other end calling out to her son. Primo says, “Paul, Paul… Send the $17 million,” and hangs up.

Paul and Angelo barely stay ahead of the dogs. They spot a truck up ahead.

Gail looks through photos of her son. She sniffs his jacket, holding it dear. She then sits at her bedroom mirror and begins cutting off her hair. As she does, she recalls the last time she saw her son.

Paul and Angelo hide in the back of a truck under a tarp. The driver stops at a large farmhouse with goats in the yard. Paul and Angelo climb out the back but are spotted by the driver. Paul asks if he can use his phone and the man says he can if he helps him unload the truck. The man turns out to be named Luigi, and his wife arrives wondering who the boys are. He explains they hopped into the back of his truck and need to use the telephone. She welcomes them inside.

Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t work. (He says the line’s been cut.) Luigi and his wife, Rosaria, explain nothing works in bad weather. Angelo says his name is Benito and Paul introduces himself as Paolo. She offers them food and they can’t resist, even though Paul wants to leave. Paul’s very suspicious of their hospitality because there hasn’t been a storm so he doesn’t believe their story that the phone lines were knocked out. While Rosaria looks after Angelo, Paul has some water. Luigi offers Angelo brandy to take away the pain.

Paul declines food and Angelo explains they’re in a hurry. They’re on their way to Naples. Rosaria offers to have Luigi drive them to the main road and from there they can hitch to Naples. However, they must eat first.

Paul and Angelo eat a full meal and Rosaria’s happy to have boys with big appetites in her kitchen. Luigi plays music and Rosaria is all smiles. She then retires to her bedroom to pray. Paul and Angelo make plans for their time in New York, and as Paul and Angelo toast to being brothers, Primo barges through the door. He immediately kills Angelo, shooting him in the face, and spattering Paul with blood. Primo shoots again as Paul screams, “No! No! No!” We don’t see the results of that second blast as the episode ends.

‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Season 4 Episode 2 Recap: “Another Day in the Diamond”

Fear the Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 2 Recap
Colman Domingo and Danay Garcia in ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ season 4 episode 2 (Photo by Richard Foreman, Jr/AMC)

AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead season four episode two begins in a period of time labeled “Before.” No explanation’s given as to when “Before” actually is, but it appears to be during a quiet period for Madison and her family and friends.

Life seems almost pre-zombie apocalypse normal in the opening moments of the episode titled “Another Day in the Diamond.” Everyone’s waking up from a night of peaceful sleep, with Nick (Frank Dillane) and Luciana (Danay Garcia) climbing out of bed and greeting the morning with coffee. The new world’s revealed when Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) opens her curtains to reveal a stadium has been turned into a bustling community.

Nick, Luciana, Alicia, and Victor (Colman Domingo) go about their assigned jobs while Madison (Kim Dickens) questions a young girl, Charlie, about her former life. Madison’s on lookout duty while comforting the young girl and welcoming her into the community. The girl points out the direction she was coming from when she stumbled upon this community.

A PA announcer says it’s another beautiful day and reminds everyone that today marks one full year of living in “the Diamond.” Crops are growing well, and it appears these zombie apocalypse survivors have jelled as a community.

To celebrate their one-year anniversary, Victor shares a special treat: syrup.

While Nick, Alicia, and their friends eat breakfast, Madison is working away on multiple projects. Alicia heads over and tells her mom to rest and relax, but Madison actually seems fine. She even attempts to crack a joke.

Nick and Charlie examine the turnips and Charlie’s concerned about the amount of food stored. Nick assures her they’ll be fine before changing the subject.

Madison and some of the community leaders discuss whether a search party should be sent out after Charlie’s family. Charlie indicated the direction and that, plus a library book, put the family’s location outside the community’s agreed-upon range. Madison thinks they have to look for the family and finally, the group agrees.

A baseball pitching machine throws a baseball that’s used to distract the walkers so the exit can be cleared. Before Victor, Luciana, and Madison head out, Nick asks them to find a new book for Charlie. He doesn’t want to accompany the group, completely content with staying put in the safety of the Diamond. Alicia also loves the place’s serenity but is part of the search party anyway.

As they hit the road, Luciana and Madison talk about Nick. Madison’s sure there will come a time when Nick steps outside the walls of the Diamond, but for now he just has to feel safe. Madison reminds Luciana that Nick was in bad shape when she found him.

Nick uses the walkie-talkie to tell the guys on the road trip the turnips are invested with weevils. Their conversation is cut off (the distance is too great) as they enter a deserted town.

Victor teams up with Luciana while Madison and Alicia stick together to try and find Charlie’s family. Victor and Lucina enter a store that’s been completely picked clean. Even the light bulbs are gone.

Luciana and Madison spot a banner with 457 sprayed on it as they check out the town. They find a camp that looks recent but has burned. Victor and Alicia speak by walkie-talkie, and Victor points out they haven’t seen a single walker since they arrived in the town – or any dead bodies at all.

Madison finds a container that looks fresh and wants to stick around a while to find the person who was recently eating lunch.

Back at the Diamond, Charlie listens to the walkie and tells Frank she knows they’re out looking for her family. Nick sidetracks her by asking if she’ll help him with the turnips.

Alicia calls her mom and Madison’s about to answer when a woman holds a gun to the back of her head. The stranger demands she hand over her keys but Madison doesn’t comply. Instead, she presses the walkie’s mic a few times to alert the others that she’s in trouble. They come running but not before Madison explains they’re looking for survivors who could be related to a little girl named Charlie.

The woman reveals she doesn’t have a kid and wants Madison to stop talking. As the woman tries to run away after grabbing the keys, she’s surrounded by Madison’s group. She runs anyway, and Alicia places her own gun on the ground, trying to convince her they’re there to help. She leads them up on a roof and as they talk, she backs up and falls through the roof into what looks like an oil-filled tank full of walkers. She tries to take them on by herself, and then Madison hops into the storage tank to help her out.

Meanwhile, Victor and Alicia finally manage to get the door open. They take out the walkers as they spill out the open door.

Night falls and they shelter in the town. They’re finally recovered enough from the walker battle to talk and get around to asking the woman’s name. She introduces herself as Naomi (Jenna Elfman) and she apologizes for what she just put them through. She doesn’t know who led the walkers into the tank and says she’s only spent one night in this town.

As they talk, walkers are heard banging on the walls of other silos.

Back at the Diamond, Nick burns the yucky turnips. He hears music on the walkie and thinks maybe they should head out to find his mom and the others. He’s told to be patient and wait, but Nick’s really anxious. He asks Charlie to open the gate for him and heads out after taking a deep breath. He has a flashback of falling from the bridge after blowing the dam.

Walkers pound on his truck as he leaves the Diamond. Inside the community, a watchman takes out the walkers. Nick is confused when he steps outside the truck, and just then Madison and her group pull up. He jokes he was just taking a stroll.

Madison finds Charlie and Charlie already knows her family wasn’t located. Madison has another question and knows it won’t be easy to answer. She wants to know what happened at Charlie’s camp and why everything was destroyed in a fire.

It turns out Naomi is an ER/ICU nurse and she bandages up Nick’s minor head wound. Madison arrives and confirms Charlie knew they wouldn’t find her family. Nick goes to check on her as Madison and Naomi discuss the future. Madison tells her there will be 48 people living there if Naomi decides to stay. Madison is okay with Naomi remaining there, even though she pulled a gun on her. Madison confesses she’s done much worse. (That’s an understatement!)

Madison’s very kind to Naomi, telling her they’ll wait and see how she feels after a shower. Naomi’s incredulous, nearly unable to process the thought of having a real shower with hot water.

As Luciana watches with a rifle from inside the gates, she spots a convoy of vehicles approaching fast. She yells for the people who are retrieving Nick’s truck to forget about it and hurry inside. They make it back before the convoy pulls to a halt outside the front gate.

Alicia wants everyone to head to the armory and grab all the weapons.

The convoy consists of cars, trucks, and RVs. They use a guy on a bicycle playing music to lead the walkers into the back of a truck. They follow him like lambs to the slaughter. One man then takes a white banner and spray paints 12 on it, hanging it on the outside of the truck containing walkers.

The same man then begins unpacking folding chairs, sits down, and waits.

Madison heads out alone but with her people armed behind the gates. She approaches the man and asks what happened in town and how the walkers got into the storage tanks. He claims that his group cleaned up that mess and that the town went up in flames because of a clogged bleeder valve on one of the tanks.

The man knows all about the Diamond down to the fact there are weevils eating the turnip crop. It turns out Charlie’s with this group and has been reporting back on this community. The man admits they found her a while ago and since then she’s been great at finding places for them to take over.

The man reels off an accurate list of the weapons at the camp and then gives Madison an ultimatum. If the group turns over their items, his people will let them live. Or, they’ll let the group die while they try to make things work. He finally introduces himself as Mel, and Madison assures him they aren’t leaving. He then warns her she’s about to be tested. Mel says they’ll wait outside the gates until that time comes.

The fruits and vegetables continue to die. Life otherwise goes on inside the Diamond. Madison keeps working on building something and the others join in.

Spring forward to what we’re told is “Now” and Alicia, Nick, Luciana, and Victor have Al (Maggie Grace), John (Garret Dillahunt), and Morgan (Lennie James) tied up outside Al’s truck. They find a flag with 51 on it inside Al’s truck and mistakenly believe she’s with Mel’s group, the Vultures.

Al is told to take them to where she found the flag. They all pile into Al’s truck (a former SWAT vehicle) and head off.
