When we last saw Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), he was alone in the desert and had grown a gorgeous set of wings. Fox’s Lucifer season three premieres on October 2, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT and during the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, executive producers Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich explained where fans will pick up the action. They also discussed planning out season three, inserting the four stand-alone episodes, and introducing Tom Welling as a police lieutenant who develops an interest in Chloe.

Did holding over four episodes from season two change the writing process for season three?

Ildy Modrovich: “It was banana pants!”

Joe Henderson: (Laughing) “Well, the funny thing is it didn’t actually change the story at all. We had broken an 18-episode arc. What it did was put us in the position of, ‘Okay, we have four more episodes.’ We sort of saw it as, ‘This is a bonus.’ We’re like, ‘Listen, we’re going to go crazy with these episodes. We’re going to go stand-alone but we’re going to introduce a new story; we’re going to change our characters a bit in it. We’re going to play with format and a whole bunch of stuff.’

And, they’re awesome. The ‘stand-alone’ thing is almost deceptive. They start stories for a number of our characters. My hope is when people watch them, they ask, ‘Was that a stand-alone?’”

Ildy Modrovich: “They won’t be glaring. And also, since we could put them wherever we wanted in this season, we put them in and then had a repercussion in the next (episode). There’s a reaction to what happened in that episode in the next episode, so they don’t feel totally stand-alone.”

Joe Henderson: “Our first two episodes pick up directly from (the season two finale), and then our third episode is our first stand-alone. And then we have a couple others, and then you’ll never know. You’ll find out.”

And season three introduces a new cast member – Tom Welling.

Ildy Modrovich: “Like we didn’t have enough candy…eye candy! We just were like, ‘You know what? We really need somebody beautiful on this show.’”

Joe Henderson: “[…] We are so excited to have Tom. He is awesome.”

Ildy Modrovich: “And so sweet. When we were talking about casting him, we were like, ‘Do you think he’ll do it?’ And then literally people came out of the woodwork to tell us how lovely he is and just what a kind, humble, hard-worker, professional…and none of it’s true.” (Laughing) It’s all so true. He’s the nicest guy. I’m so happy.”

Joe Henderson: “And what’s fun is we’re going to play him against type. I think what drew him to the role is this isn’t his role on Smallville. This is very different. This is a chance for him to show off. I’m a huge Smallville fan, I know the range he has. This is a chance for him to show that off. We’re excited about it.”

Ildy Modrovich: “It’s got an edge.”

How is his relationship going to be with Lucifer? Is it adversarial?

Ildy: “It will have many movements.”

Joe Henderson: “…of the bowel nature. (Laughing) Had to go there!”

And how often will the shirts be written out of those scenes?

Joe Henderson: “Why would we even write them in?”

Ildy Modrovich: “As often as possible! We already have that written into the script. Trust me.”

Joe Henderson: “Lt. Marcus Pierce is the new big man on campus, to a certain extent. Our cast – the characters in the precinct get along well. They have their conflicts, obviously, but this is a tightly knit team. It’s almost like family. He’s going to come in and mix it up.”

Ildy Modrovich: “And they’ll have different levels. At first it will be he’s this tough detective. And then as he starts to kind of have his eye on Miss Decker, that’s not going to sit well. That’s not going to sit well with Lucifer.”

How is it going to change the team dynamic given that at the end of season two it looked like Lucifer has gone missing for a while?

Ildy Modrovich: “He hasn’t been gone as long as perhaps you might think. So, even though his wings are back, how long did it take to grow them? A very short time.”

Joe Henderson: “And what does that say?”

Do we get some explanation or are we left hanging for a while?

Ildy Modrovich: “I can say this, that the premiere episode is him trying to solve that mystery. ‘Who took me?’ He knows dad is behind this for sure. Who is his emissary? He doesn’t like to get his hands dirty.”

Joe Henderson: “He doesn’t like to whack guys in the back of the head by himself. So, who’s his emissary? ‘I’m going to find that man/woman/demon/angel/whatever and figure out what my dad’s up to and send him a message back.’ That’s episode one.”

And there will be a pure musical episode?

Ildy Modrovich: (Laughing) “I want that so badly from the bottom of my soul.”

Joe Henderson: “We’ll get there.”

Ildy Modrovich: “We’ll get there. I’m not sure if it’s this season, but we’ll get there.”

We’ve been told there’s some Sinatra and Vegas showgirls coming.

Ildy Modrovich: “That is coming. That episode will air before Christmas – I won’t say exactly when. Yeah, there’s a case in Las Vegas that they have to go solve and it becomes part of a sting operation to basically call the bad guy out by doing this big Vegas number. Ella gets to dance as the showgirl and of course Lucifer is the man on the mic. And, it’s truly my favorite moment of television. I cried when I saw the rehearsal. I cried. Ask Tom and Aimee (Garcia), I was crying.”

Joe Henderson: “Let’s see…who did he meet in Vegas last time he was in Vegas?”

Ildy Modrovich: “So going back is an interesting thing.”

What do you have in mind for this season as far as arcs go?

Joe Henderson: “We’ve been structuring it in three acts right now. We’re building toward our 10-episode arc of the fall, and then two other acts. We’ve got our waypoints. One of the things we like to do is we have the point where this is where we’re headed to but we are ready for a swerve if all of a sudden you come up with a better idea or all of a sudden you start to see something happening on screen and you’re like, ‘Whoa, that’s good! We should play with that.’

So, it’s a three-act play to a certain extent. But the fun of it is, it’s jazz. You want to be able to go, ‘Oh, this is really working!’ Or, Ildy comes in and she’s like, ‘What about this?’ ‘Well, that blows everything up.’ ‘That’s awesome!’”

Ildy Modrovich: “Joe’s just like, ‘No.’ I go, ‘Here’s an idea.’ ‘No.’ He’s always going to say no.”

How will Dr. Linda feel safe again?

Ildy Modrovich: “That’s a good question. She does. We actually worked just on an episode where she has to really face what happened to her. The strange part about it is she’s a therapist who helps other people through grieving and things like that – PTSD and traumatic experiences. She thinks she knows how to do it for herself but what she’s missing is someone to help her through it. She’s missing the ‘her’ in the equation. And so, she finds someone who helps her through it.”

Joe Henderson: “It’s me.”

‘Dynasty’ TV Series Preview: Photos, Plot, Cast, and Trailer

Dynasty TV Series
Elizabeth Gillies as Fallon, Wakeema Hollis as Monica Colby, and Sam Adegoke as Jeff Colby in ‘Dynasty’ (Photo: Mark Hill © 2017 The CW Network)

The CW’s revisiting the classic Dynasty TV series with a new 2017 take on the wealthy Carrington family. The original series ran from 1981 through 1989 and starred John Forsythe, Linda Evans, and Joan Collins. The new Dynasty series stars Elizabeth Gillies as Fallon Carrington, Nathalie Kelley as Cristal Flores, James Mackay as Steven Carrington, Alan Dale as Anders, Sam Adegoke as Jeff Colby, Robert Christopher Riley as Culhane, Rafael de la Fuente as Sammy Jo, and Grant Show as Blake Carrington.

Dynasty‘s executive produced by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Sallie Patrick, Esther and Richard Shapiro, and Brad Silberling. The CW will premiere the dramatic series on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT.

The Plot: Wealth, power, deception, and double-dealing… what does it take to build a dynasty? A modern re-imagining of the iconic primetime soap, centering on the powerful Carrington family as they defend their throne against the Colbys, new rivals and threats, and even each other.

Fallon Carrington (Gillies) is charismatic, cunning and poised to become the new COO of her father’s global energy empire – or so she thinks. When her father, Blake Carrington, (Show) summons Fallon and her brother, Steven (James Mackay), home to the family compound in Atlanta, Fallon is horrified to learn that the reunion isn’t to announce her promotion – but rather to make the acquaintance of stepmother-to-be, Cristal (Kelley). Cristal is stunning – and almost as young as Fallon, as Fallon is quick to point out – but she isn’t just some flimsy gold-digger to be scared off. Cristal is driven, principled, a savvy publicity maven at Carrington Atlantic, and she truly loves Blake. However, the wealth and privilege of the Carringtons’ world proves challenging to her, as she clashes with the staff, including Blake’s butler, Anders (Dale), as well as Fallon, who all make it very clear Cristal doesn’t belong.

Family dynasties flow through blood, and Fallon would sooner draw blood than call Cristal “Mom.” Fallon asks Culhane (Riley), the family’s chauffeur – and Fallon’s secret lover – to help expose Cristal for the fraud Fallon thinks she is. But when that backfires, and Blake chooses Cristal over his own daughter, Fallon sides up to Blake’s biggest rival, Jeff Colby (Adegoke), mixing business and pleasure to seek her revenge… leaving a jealous Culhane to watch from the sidelines. While the Carringtons’ rocky relationships prove the theory that family sticks together no matter what, Cristal is reminded of exactly that when her nephew, Sammy Jo (de la Fuente), arrives with a suitcase full of secrets from Cristal’s past. Now Cristal’s carefully concealed history could bring her future crashing down – and who knows who she might take down with her.

Jon Hamm Joins the Cast of ‘Good Omens’

Jon Hamm (Mad Men) is returning to television with a starring role in BBC Two and Amazon Prime Video’s Good Omens. The six-part series is based on Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s bestselling novel, and Jon Hamm is confirmed to take on the role of the archangel Gabriel, the primary messenger of God. He joins a cast that includes Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex) as Aziraphale and David Tennant (Broadchurch, Doctor Who) as Crowley, Adria Arjona (Emerald City), Nina Sosanya (Sister Mary Loquacious), Jack Whitehall (Mother’s Day), Michael McKean (Better Call Saul), Miranda Richardson (Stronger), Ned Dennehy (Versailles), and Ariyon Bakare (Rogue One).

“I read Good Omens almost twenty years ago. I thought it was one of the funniest, coolest books I’d ever read. It was also, obviously, unfilmable. Two months ago Neil sent me the scripts, and I knew I had to be in it,” said Hamm.

Filming is currently underway. Douglas Mackinnon (Dirk Gently, Doctor Who, Outlander) is directing and executive producing. Gaiman adapted his book into the series and serves as the showrunner.

Discussing Gabriel’s expanded role in the series, Neil Gaiman said, “Once we had finished writing Good Omens, back in the dawn of prehistory, Terry Pratchett and I started plotting a sequel. There would have been a lot of angels in the sequel. When Good Omens was first published and was snapped up for the first time by Hollywood, Terry and I took joy in introducing our angels into the plot of a movie that was never made. So when, almost thirty years later, I started writing Good Omens for TV, one thing I knew was that our angels would have to be in there.

The leader of these angels is Gabriel. He is everything that Aziraphale isn’t: he’s tall, good-looking, charismatic and impeccably dressed. We were fortunate that Jon Hamm was available, given that he is already all of these things without even having to act. We were even more fortunate that he’s a fan of the books and a remarkable actor.”

Amazon Prime Video will air the six-part series in 2019, followed by a premiere on BBC Two.

The Plot: Good Omens takes place in 2018 when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch (the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming war. And…someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

It was a tight race for box office supremacy over the September 29 through October 1, 2017 weekend. One of the weekend’s two new major releases – American Made – was neck-and-neck with returning box office champs It and Kingsman: The Secret Service. Meanwhile, Flatliners was skipped by most moviegoers, finishing with a measly $6.7 million. It did, however, still manage to finish in the top five at the box office over its first three days in release.

It, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and American Made tallies were incredibly close, but it appears It will earn the top spot once the dust settles. However, the current releases will all have to give way next weekend when the long-awaited, much-anticipated Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford opens on October 6th.

Box Office Top 10: September 29-October 1, 2017

  1. It – $17,310,000

‘Outlander’ Season 3 Episode 4 Recap: Of Lost Things

Outlander Season 3 Episode 4 Sophie Skelton, Caitriona Balfe, Richard Rankin

Scotland 1968! We start Starz’s Outlander season three episode four where things bring us back to the season two finale storyline for Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton). The historical search has begun in earnest. Roger (Richard Rankin) is a historian and is the perfect fellow to help our damsels find our dashing Highland Warrior through the span of 200 years.

They pick up measuring the timeline they’ll need to reach to bring Claire and Jamie’s current lives together again. Some of this plays out a bit differently from the book. They’re sort of far along in their quest since they have been through the story of the Dun Bonnet and his time at Ardsmuir prison. Given the breakthrough of finding Jamie at the prison, Roger does the very Scottish thing of celebrating with a whiskey. Slainte Mhath! We found him!

Helwater! A beautiful English Lord’s estate and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) new prison, but a greatly improved arrangement over the stone walls of Ardsmuir. Lord Dunsany (Rupert Vansittart) has an initial conversation with Alex MacKenzie (a.k.a. Red Jamie) to take the measure of the Jacobite traitor employed in his household. Lord Dunsany reveals he lost a son at Prestonpans but he doesn’t hold a grudge since the Jacobites ultimately lost. He does mention that Lady Dunsany (Beth Goddard) is not so forgiving, so they are to keep Jamie’s history between the two men. Jamie reveals that losing a child is something you never really get over and that he has lost TWO of his own. I think this understanding helps the Lord to take pity on a conquered man and he decides to give Jamie a small wage instead of treating him like a prisoner. More to keep up the ruse for Lady Dunsany than to hide there’s a notorious Jacobite in her house. But, he does caution Jamie to remember he’s still a prisoner of the Crown.

Brianna and Roger are stopped on the side of the road in 1968. They’re having a cute conversation that I think most people have early on about current romantic interests. Roger confirms he doesn’t have a girlfriend and Bree decides to lend a hand and fix the car. Roger wasn’t making much headway so, as the strong-headed daughter of Jamie and Claire, naturally Brianna would take charge. Especially since it was just a loose distributor cap…lol. In those days, that was as common an issue as someone fussing that the TV wouldn’t come on and it was only unplugged from the wall. Things need power to work! Brianna is very good with her hands.

Jamie’s in his element when it comes to horses. Jamie mentions many times in the books how he could be completely at peace and happy being a groom watching over horses. It’s the peace and quiet he has not had since he was taken from Lallybroch in the first season by Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies). The stables at Helwater would put many people’s homes to shame. Also, if you look closely you might notice a little something familiar. Some parts of the stable building in this episode were used in the French scenes in season two.

Lady Geneva (Hannah James) comes to the stables for her regular ride, ordering around the help as she goes. (“Spoiled brat” comes immediately to mind. Other things come to mind, but I won’t go there just yet.) She has the nerve to call our Jamie a “useless Scotsman.” (Okay, yes, I will go there… Nasty little B*&^%!) Jamie was remarking how a good swift kick in the hind end would do her some good when her sister Lady Isobel (Tanya Reynolds) catches them and says she doesn’t think it would do any good. She also shares with Jamie that she’s infatuated with Major Grey (David Berry). Who wouldn’t be? He is rather dashing. Jamie tries to caution her in a kind and subtle way. Jamie knows that Major Grey’s passions swing in other directions.

Claire receives a call from the hospital in Boston. It’s Joe Abernathy (Wil Johnson) calling about a patient they both know, and Claire is pulled in both directions again. Her doctor side struggles against her desire to find Jamie.

In 1757 Lady Geneva is betrothed to the Earl of Ellesmere (James Cameron Stewart). As the family is coming out to see the Earl off in his carriage, the Earl makes a comment about how horrid the color of Jamie’s hair is. You can almost see a light bulb go off over Geneva’s head at this remark. She is not happy about being forced to marry a much older man.

At some later point, Geneva goes down to the stables for her usual ride and makes Jamie ride with her. It’s so great to see Jamie on a horse again, marvelous and dashing! Once they’re out of earshot of the rest of the estate, Geneva starts talking about how Jamie MUST do as she says. While they are riding, she gets out ahead of Jamie and falls off her horse. Jamie comes over, concerned, and picks her up, but she reveals that she was only faking so he would do her bidding. Jamie gallantly drops her very promptly into a mud puddle. Something that did not happen in the books, but I LOVED IT! Tulach Ard, Alex MacKenzie!

Ahhh to chess then! Major Grey and Jamie are playing chess out in the woods of the estate. Major Grey did promise to visit once a quarter and see how he was doing.

Lord Melton (Sam Hoare) comes down the path with both the Dunsany sisters. Much to his surprise, he sees Red Jamie is a groom on the estate. Lady Geneva can tell something is tense in the conversation. Lord Melton is not as disposed to like Jamie as Major Grey. Then again, few do like Jamie as much as Major Grey, as the non-book reading fans will come to learn.

Lady Geneva corners Jamie, but this time in the stables. In the book, she intercepts a letter between Jamie and his family at Lallybroch, which is against the laws at the time. In the show, she forces him into serving her by other means. This time she makes her intentions very clear and puts it to Jamie how much his family will be hurt if he refuses her wishes. She learned from Lord Melton, after making him completely pissed (very drunk), who Jamie really was. The ultimate tool between both the book and the show is that Geneva threatens Jamie’s family at Lallybroch if he does not come to her room that night. She wants him to take her maidenhead instead of giving it to Lord Ellesmere.

Jamie has no choice in the matter, so he goes to her room late at night. He starts to disrobe and says she can watch. When he pulls off his shirt, she gasps as she sees the mass of scars on his back. He’s very used to this happening the first time people see his back. He stands before her as she looks him up and down. He approaches her and it’s clear Geneva is nervous. She admits she doesn’t know what to do. Was it just me, or did your hands tingle when Geneva touched Jamie’s chest? Okay, I’m going to leave it there. You need to experience this part for yourself. I need to work to get the tingling to stop.

Afterwards, Geneva says she loves him. Jamie explains what love really is between two people and that she’s experiencing lust. Love is when you give your heart and soul to another.

Some time passes and Geneva comes to visit her family with her husband. As she exits the carriage, you see the very round mound she is carrying. She gives Jamie a look that is obvious about the pregnancy, but more to come on that in a bit.

The search continues for Jamie in the modern day. Bree tells Claire that they can go to Edinburgh to look for the ship manifest since the prisoners were sent to America when Ardsmuir closed. Later, Bree is sitting with Roger in front of the fire talking and she admits she’s torn about the search for Jamie. The closer they are to finding Jamie, the closer she is to losing her mother. Roger admits he’s worried for the same reason, but because it would mean that Bree would leave. They share their first kiss rather spontaneously.

The Dunsany family rush to the estate where Lady Geneva is delivering her baby because Geneva is in distress. The family run upstairs and the housemaid tells Jamie that she’s bleeding very badly. He asks about the baby as well and learns it is a very healthy little boy. A time later he’s walking in the lower part of the estate and runs into Lady Isobel crying after Geneva died. She lashes out at Jamie because Geneva told her that she had only lain with him. In the book, Geneva and the Lord did consummate the marriage, but he was angry because she was not a virgin at the time. Geneva also had not told anyone about her and Jamie, but in the show, she did tell her sister.

The maid fetches Jamie and tells him he must come upstairs. The Lords are quarreling about the baby. Lord Ellesmere says the baby is a bastard and is holding a knife to the child. Lord Dunsany is holding a pistol. What a way for a child to come into the world! Jamie comes between them and gets Lord Dunsany to give him the pistol. Jamie asks Lord Ellesmere to drop his knife. More harsh words are exchanged between the Lords. Ellesmere makes a motion to stab the baby, so Jamie fires the pistol and kills him. He walks over and picks up his son, though the Dunsanys don’t know it’s his son he holds. Mercifully, the child does not have the telltale signs of red hair that Faith and Brianna did.

After all is settled down and the Dunsanys are back at Helwater with the baby, Lady Isobel approaches Jamie secretly out in the woods working the horses. She’s taking the baby for a stroll in the wee carriage. She tells Jamie they named him William and she calls him Willie. If you remember Jamie’s brother who died when he was young was named Willie, so Jamie is very pleased with their choice of a name for the baby. Naturally, he had no say in the matter. Jamie can’t even step over and hold him. Lady Isobel is kind to let Jamie see him.

As they’re talking, Lady Dunsany approaches from behind. She asks for a moment alone with Jamie. She admits the authorities have ruled the death of Lord Ellesmere is settled. Her Ladyship also admits she knows he was a prisoner. As a reward for the service he’s done for their family, she offers him his freedom. Jamie is at first heartened but he looks at the baby and wants to stay a while longer to watch over him. Of course, her Ladyship doesn’t know this is his motive. He says it’s because of the money they pay him, that he sends it back to his family in Scotland since times are so harsh there. She tells him he is but to ask when he’s ready to go home.

1764: we find wee Willie (Clark Butler) riding his pony at the instruction of his groom, Alex. Her Ladyship came out with a friend to see her grandson and they remark how much Willie is looking like his friend MacKenzie since they spend so much time together. This is the danger and so the time has come for Jamie to leave. Even Jamie sees it and knows he cannot stay any longer.

In 1968, Claire, Bree, and Roger are looking through old manifests in the archives in Edinburgh. They notice the books are marked incorrectly. They’re off by 100 years and show the 1600s instead of the 1700s. This is a major blow to their finding where the prisoners went after the prison was closed. At this point, they don’t know Jamie ended up at Helwater. Claire is resigned to ending the search and to going home to Boston.

It’s time for Jamie to go home to Lallybroch. He must tell wee Willie that he’s leaving. Willie throws a little brat tantrum so Jamie smacks his behind. It’s probably the first smack the child had ever received, so he says he hates Jamie. Jamie admits he’s not very fond of him either just then and calls him a wee bastard. Apparently, Willie had heard other people talking about rumors of his birth and says that Jamie must take it back, that he is NOT a bastard. Willie gives Jamie a hug because he doesn’t want him to go. Jamie mutters something to him in Gaelic that I wish I knew what it was. Love it when Sam speaks Gaelic, but I digress.

A short time later, Jamie and Major Grey are speaking when Grey admits that Jamie is right to go because it’s obvious that Willie is Jamie’s son. No one had told him, it’s just that Grey noticed it himself. Jamie asks Grey to serve as a father figure to Willie. Jamie offers himself to Grey as payment, if he wanted take Jamie up on it. Grey is vaper-locked…LOL. Grey doesn’t know how to respond. He’s tempted to take Jamie up on it, but is also shocked at the offer. He offers some news of his own to Jamie. Grey is to marry Lady Isobel, so he will certainly be able to keep close to Willie. Jamie’s surprised that he’s going to marry. Grey deeply cares for Isobel, but he does love Jamie. If he cannot have Jamie, he can at least raise his son. Jamie’s grateful that Grey will be able to raise him. Grey is an honorable man and will give the boy instruction that his grandparents have not, such as discipline.

Later that night, Jamie is preparing a place to pray in secret since he’s a Papist living in a Protestant household. Willie comes in and Jamie lets him stay a while. Willie says he wants to be a ‘stinking Papist’ like Mac. Jamie baptizes him as William James. James is not one of Willie’s given names so it’s his secret Papist name, as Jamie puts it. (This is so hard to watch!) He must leave his son something that will last with him through his life since Jamie will not be there. Jamie has carved Willie a gift. He made him a little snake carving like his older brother had done for him as a child. In the book, Jamie gave him a carved horse since Willie knew him only as a groomsman.

Claire goes through the material they had gathered and puts it away in a rather symbolic display of goodbye before she and Bree fly back to Boston. Jamie must leave Willie in Major Grey and Lady Isobel’s hands. The pain on both Jamie and Claire’s face will twist the heart in your chest. As Jamie rides away, Willie calls out and Major Grey must run after him to catch him. The look on Jamie’s face is so painful I really can’t do it justice. I can only imagine having to leave my child behind. It would be so devastating. This is the point I’m SUPER grateful for the preview for the next episode. If I had to leave it with that last look on Jamie’s face, I’m not sure how I would get through this next week until episode 305 “Freedom & Whiskey.” This week will feel as long as the week did before “The Wedding” episode in season one. Book readers know what’s coming, but no spoilers will be given here. Je Suis Prest for A. Malcolm!!!!

‘Lucifer’ Season 3: Rachael Harris Interview on Dr. Linda’s Relationships

During the 2017 WonderCon, Lucifer’s Rachael Harris (‘Dr. Linda’) promised we’d see a new side to her character at the end of season two. And Rachael Harris delivered on that promise, with Dr. Linda getting physically involved in protecting Lucifer and paying the price by ending up nearly dead and in the hospital. At the San Diego Comic-Con, Rachael Harris provided a few new clues as to what’s in store for Lucifer’s favorite psychiatrist in season three and she promised we’ll finally learn more about what makes her tick in this upcoming season.

Fox’s Lucifer season three premieres on October 2, 2017.

Will Dr. Linda remain involved in the action in season three?

Rachael Harris: “You can expect it. I think what we learned is that, just from my character’s point of view – not doing the whole big picture of the show – is that she went through a life-altering experience where she thought it was a life-threatening experience…a near death experience is what I’m trying to say. Linda went through a near-death experience and she’s sort of coming to grips with the fact she’s the only person who knows of this celestial world that’s a human. So, we’re starting to see this impact her a bit more. And, as women, all we do a lot of times is take care of everybody else and we never look at ourselves. ‘Well, I’ll take care of this and this and this.’ What’s going to start to happen is that when somebody bears that weight, they start to kind of lose their balance a little bit. So, we get to start looking at Linda’s past a little bit and what makes her tick.

We get to see her be a little bit more vulnerable and little more emotional. We knew she was in physical care already when mom attacked her in the season finale, but now we get to see what makes her tick and why she maybe became a therapist, her love life, new friends, and things like that. So, I’m excited for her and then at the same time her relationship with Lucifer…he still relies on her. It’s kind of nice because I don’t want to quit my day job. It’s great. I still get to have this relationship with Tom (Ellis). Even Lucifer kind of starts to take on a new role with Linda where she’s been helping him so much, he is being a little bit forced into a different role.”

The Dr. Linda and Mazikeen relationship is so much fun and it ended up being really poignant.

Rachael Harris: “It’s one of my favorite relationships ever in TV. I feel like it’s just a really great female relationship that’s healthy and funny and sweet, and completely platonic. We’re not hot for each other and it’s kind of great that Maze, who’s hot for everybody, is just ready to have a great friendship. So, we do see more of Linda and Maze.

Lesley-Ann (Brandt) just had a baby so she’s going to be in her little baby mode for a while. But still, like you saw in the trailer, those four episodes that we shot – three of those are going to be airing in the first 10. So, we get to see… I mean, it’s fun. Lesley-Ann and I love working together, doing our scenes together.”

Are we going to meet Dr. Linda’s family?

Rachael Harris: “You know, it’s interesting. You’re going to meet…yes and no, in a weird way. You’re just going to get to know more people in her life. How about that?”

Given what she’s gone through, how does Dr. Linda feel safe?

Rachael Harris: “That’s a good question. We’re going to look at that. That’s a good question.”

How do you play that vulnerability now?

Rachael Harris: “Well, I think she’s still in a place where she wants to be okay with it. She’s used to being the doctor and making everyone feel that whatever they’re experiencing or feeling is normal, and trying to mirror that. She’s still in that place of trying to do that until certain things start happening and then she’ll start to crack a little bit.”

‘The Exorcist’ Season 2 Episode 1 Recap: Janus

Fox’s The Exorcist is back and so are the show’s nightmare-induced special effects. Season two of the horror series kicked off on September 29, 2017 and introduced the new key players ex-communicated priest Marcus Keane and Father Tomas Ortega will be helping to free from the clutches of evil.

Season two episode one titled “Janus” begins with Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) praying in an empty church. He steps outside, looks confused, and sees handprints in what looks like paint on the outside of the church. He also sees a bunch of kids running around and having fun. Father Tomas notices a woman he knows, Cindy (Elizabeth Allen), and she’s holding a baby she calls her little miracle. The children play with a piñata and what leaks out isn’t candy. Cindy’s face transforms and she looks possessed as she begins reciting a prayer.

It turns out that all this time Tomas has actually been driving a truck on a dirt road in Jefferson County, Montana, and has fallen asleep at the wheel. Marcus (Ben Daniels) reaches through the window between the cab and the truck bed and wakes him up before they crash. Marcus is in the back of the truck attempting to help Cindy who it appears is desperately in need of an exorcism. They’re being chased by Cindy’s husband (the sheriff) and another man who shoots at them while they race down the road.

Tomas pulls off the road and behind some trees. Marcus attempts to keep Cindy quiet while her husband passes by, earning a bite from Cindy for his troubles. Marcus and Tomas argue over their next step, with Tomas believing maybe they can explain to Cindy’s husband why they kidnapped his wife. Marcus reminds Tomas he agreed to follow his lead, and Tomas sounds frustrated when he reminds Marcus he’s been doing that for six months already.

Marcus believes Cindy’s still in there somewhere and they agree to finish the exorcism.

The scene switches to a large house on Nachburn Island, Washington. Andy Kim (John Cho) is preparing multiple lunches for the kids who live in his foster home. He sends them off to school but not before reminding them Rose is coming at 6pm and they have to be there to clean up before she arrives.

Grace (Amélie Eve) doesn’t leave with the rest of the kids. She’s up in her room watching them head out but she’s not ready to join them. She’s being homeschooled for now, and Andy invites her to join them downstairs later for dinner with the lady from social services who will be staying with them for a few days.

Apparently, Grace has a pillowcase made to look like a cute little face that she wears when she needs to be brave. She puts it on and laughs. (It’s both cute and creepy.)

Back to the team of Marcus and Tomas, they arrive at a barn with the words “Jesus Saves” spray-painted on the doors. Marcus opens the door and Tomas brings Cindy inside.

Marcus tells Tomas he’s probably regretting not taking the promotion in Chicago, and Tomas admits he misses his warm bed and his sister’s cooking. They strap Cindy down while Tomas explains what happened to him while he was driving. He tells Marcus he was somewhere else at a party at a church. Cindy had a child and something came out of the piñata. Marcus thinks it’s just because they haven’t gotten any sleep recently, but Tomas believes what he experienced was real.

Just then Cindy starts writhing and saying it hurts. Marcus determines they have to get an intravenous drip going and wants Tomas to get the medical supplies they need to keep her alive. After Tomas leaves, the demon in Cindy tells Marcus he was right to be worried and to send Tomas away. It says it will have Tomas and that Tomas has talents Marcus will never possess. The demon also claims Tomas opened his mind and let it in.

The kids in Washington walk through the woods talking about witches. Verity (Brianna Hildebrand) tells the story of the island witch who lined up kids and made them drink poison. They hang out by a deserted rundown house, and Verity claims the house’s well is where the witch dumped all the dead bodies. If you stand on the cover for 10 seconds, you can hear their dying gasps.

Caleb (Hunter Dillon), blind but wanting to be part of the group, climbs up on the cover and starts counting. He makes it to three before one of the other boys pulls him off the lid to safety. Truck (Cyrus Arnold) kicks a ball into the house but doesn’t follow it in.

Andy waits at the dock to greet Rose (Li Jun Li) and they hug and exchange pleasantries. They haven’t seen each other in a while and their conversation’s a bit awkward.

Rose looks around the house and says it’s beautiful, while Andy says the place is the closest some of these kids have had to a real home or family. He hopes the history he and Rose share doesn’t prevent her from seeing that. She doesn’t take that well and he claims he just wants a fair shake. She assures him if the kids are happy and healthy, he has nothing to worry about.

Cindy tells Marcus the demon told her he could bring her baby back and let her hold it one more time. Marcus says that’s a lie and tries to get her to keep talking. She describes when she first met her husband and their first date. She broke her ankle and he carried her home.

Cindy asks Marcus if he has someone special and he says he’s a priest so he’s married to God. The demon reveals it knows Marcus is no longer a priest and asks what his heart wants most. The demon says Marcus was abandoned by God and that praying does nothing since God doesn’t listen to him anymore. The demon claims Father Tomas is God’s new favorite and that Marcus needs Tomas more than Tomas needs him. The demon laughs as Marcus prays.

Shelby (Alex Barima) says grace as the family sits down to eat dinner with Rose. Verity quizzes Rose on her job, asking if she just spies on foster homes. Rose describes her duties, confirming she makes sure the kids are in the best environment. Verity sounds bitter, knowing that in three months she’ll turn 18 and will be kicked out on the streets and out of the system. Caleb asks if Rose knows his dad who he says is in Dallas getting his license back and setting up a room just for him. No one answers and Caleb knows something’s wrong. Andy finally reveals Caleb’s dad didn’t show up for his custody hearing so custody is unlikely. Caleb’s angry and hurt his dad thinks taking care of a blind kid is too much work, and Andy tries to make him feel better by telling him that, yes, he’s a lot of work but he loves it and feels lucky to have him living there. Andy calls Caleb “awesome” and Shelby pitches in that he thinks Caleb’s okay.

Tomas looks through a store’s medical supplies for what Marcus needs to help Cindy. As he’s shopping, two men walk by so Tomas hides his face. The cashier hassles him over an ID and, finally, Tomas whips out his Chicago driver’s license. (The clerk only asked for the ID because he thought Tomas was an illegal immigrant, not IDing the guy buying liquor in line behind him.)

After dinner, Rose walks through the house looking at pictures hanging on the wall. She hears weird music coming from a room and it’s Caleb messing with a record player. She doesn’t make any noise but Caleb seems to know she’s there watching him.

Andy’s on his laptop in his room looking at pictures from a few years back when he was in a relationship. Grace, still in her brave pillowcase head, appears in his room and says she heard a noise. He takes her back to her room and then he hears a noise downstairs. Rose is in the kitchen and Truck is standing in front of her, hyperventilating. Andy explains it’s a “spectrum thing” and he needs to be touched. Andy hugs Truck, and Rose asks if it’s normal for Truck to sleepwalk. Andy says it’s not and escorts Truck back to bed.

Tomas returns with the supplies and before they start work on Cindy, Marcus tells Tomas he knows what was happening when he blacked out in the truck. Marcus warns him he can’t battle the demon inside. He can’t give the demon access to his darkest secrets. Tomas, however, believes he spoke to Cindy during the blackout and that she was calling out for help. He wants to go to her again, but Marcus reminds him they don’t engage with the enemy because it risks their immortal soul. Marcus tells Tomas they battle demons in the real world, not inside their heads.

Tomas says he brought back Angela and that this skill is a gift from God. Marcus isn’t so sure. “With pride comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom,” says Marcus. Tomas mutters under his breath about being treated like a schoolboy, and Marcus says fair enough – Tomas doesn’t need him.

Andy and Truck make it back to Truck’s room and discover Caleb isn’t in his bed. The window is open and Andy races from the room.

Cindy’s husband and another man arrive at the barn where Marcus and Tomas are in the middle of the exorcism. The demon’s contorting Cindy’s body which is still restrained on the table, IV in her arm. She’s bent backward nearly in two as the sheriff demands they open the door or it will be kicked in. Marcus tells Tomas to finish the exorcism and he’ll answer the door.

Andy heads outside in the dark and Verity is ready to go with him. Rose takes over, saying no one is going out there alone. She wants Shelby to go with Verity while she and Truck will stay together. Armed with flashlights, they search the woods calling out for Caleb.

Shelby prays while he’s searching with Verity, and she doesn’t believe that’s in the least bit helpful. “What good is a God that never shows up, that can’t even protect one little kid?” she asks.

Marcus confronts Cindy’s husband who wants his wife back now. It turns out Cindy went to the Church, realizing what was happening but they turned her down for an exorcism. Marcus explains he and Tomas are the “ones who don’t say no,” warning that Cindy’s in grave danger. Marcus says only Tomas is keeping the demon at bay.

Inside the barn, items are flying at Tomas as he continues to pray over Cindy’s twisting body. Against Marcus’ wishes, Tomas turns inside himself to speak with Cindy.

In his mind, Tomas is back outside the church. He forces himself back into the real world, continuing the exorcism but he’s popping in and out of reality. Finally, he closes the Bible.

The man who’s with Cindy’s husband punches Marcus in the face, demanding Marcus let them in the barn. He says he doesn’t like hitting a priest and after Marcus reveals he’s not a priest, Cindy’s husband punches him. Marcus takes on both men in a fistfight while inside the barn, Tomas tells the demon he’s not afraid of it and asks it to show itself to him. He turns inward again, with his eyes rolling up in his head. Tomas enters the church and hears crying.

Andy makes it to the abandoned house and finds Caleb standing on top of the well and counting to 10, repeatedly. The boards break under his feet but Andy manages to pull him to safety. Caleb doesn’t seem aware of what he was doing.

Tomas approaches the holy water and sees it bubbling. He peers into it and then looks up when he hears a door slam. He walks toward the confessional and slowly enters. Taking a seat, he peers through to the other room and sees Cindy. Tomas says he’s there to help her. They stare into each other’s eyes. Music is coming out of her open mouth.

More men arrive at the barn and Marcus continues to stand his ground, but he’s outmatched. They drag him inside the barn and he sees Tomas, eyes still white orbs, holding Cindy’s head. Tomas and Cindy are inches apart, staring into each other’s eyes in reality as well as inside Tomas’ head.

Inside his mind, an arm emerges from Cindy’s mouth and grabs Tomas by the throat. He screams and frees himself in both worlds.

Cindy’s husband punches Tomas in the face and then carries Cindy from the barn. The demon smiles.

And now it’s time for “Tubular Bells” as Andy carries Caleb back to his room. Grace watches and then runs off to bed. He’s no longer wearing his sunglasses and we see a flash of Caleb’s glassy eyes as Andy delivers him to his room. On the wall in the hallway are the same type of little handprints as Tomas saw in his vision of the church.
