Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry Join Ariana Grande for ‘One Love Manchester’ Benefit Concert

One Love Manchester

Ariana Grande will be returning to Manchester for a special fundraising concert to support the injured victims as well as the families of those who were murdered during the May 22, 2017 terrorist attack at Manchester Arena. The ‘One Love Manchester’ concert will take place at the Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground on June 4th, with tickets going on sale via Ticketmaster on June 1st at 10am. The Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground can hold 50,000 people, and fans who attended Grande’s May 22nd concert can receive a free ticket by registering by May 31st.

Ariana Grande will be joined at the ‘One Love Manchester’ concert by Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Take That, and Niall Horan. The proceeds from the fundraising concert will go to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fun set up by Manchester City Council and the British Red Cross. For those who cannot attend, BBC Television, BBC Radio, and Capital Radio Networks will broadcast the concert.

“This benefit concert is a gesture of solidarity by Ariana Grande and the many other stars who have pledged their involvement. It will help raise funds to support the survivors and the families who tragically lost someone last week. This event is an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate things that unite us – music, humanity and the will to do something to help others,” stated Mike Adamson, chief executive of British Red Cross.

22 people were killed and 120 were injured by the terrorist attack. Following the devastating attack, Grande wrote a message to her fans:

“My heart, prayers and deepest condolences are with the victims of the Manchester Attack and their loved ones.

There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better. However, I extend my hand and heart and everything I possibly can give to you and yours, should you want or need my help in any way.

The only thing we can do now is choose how we let this affect us and how we live our lives from here on out.

I have been thinking of my fans, and of you all, non stop over the past week. The way you have handled all of this has been more inspiring and made me more proud than you’ll ever now. The compassion, kindness, love, strength and oneness that you’ve shown one another this past week is the exact opposite of the heinous intentions it must take to pull off something as evil as what happened Monday.

YOU are the opposite.

I am sorry for the pain and fear that you must be feeling and for the trauma that you, too, must be experiencing.

We will never be able to understand why events like this take place because it is not in our nature, which is why we shouldn’t recoil.

We will not quit or operate in fear.

We won’t let this divide us.

We won’t let hate win.

I don’t want to go the rest of the year without being able to see and hold and uplift my fans, the same way they continue to uplift me.

Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before.

I’ll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honor of and to raise money for the victims and their families. I want to thank my fellow musicians and friends for reaching out to be a part of our expression of love for Manchester. I will have details to share with you as soon as everything is confirmed.

From the day we started putting the Dangerous Woman Tour together, I said that this show, more than anything else, was intended to be a safe space for my fans. A place for them to escape, to celebrate, to heal, to fell safe and to be themselves. To meet their friends they’ve made online. To express themselves.

This will not change that.

When you look into the audience at my shows, you see a beautiful, diverse, pure, happy crowd. Thousands of people, incredibly different, all there for the same reason, music.

Music is something that everyone on Earth can share.

Music is meant to heal us, to bring us together, to make us happy.

So that is what it will continue to do for us.

We will continue in honor of the ones we lost, their loved ones, my fans and all affected by this tragedy.

They will be on my mind and in my heart everyday and I will think of them with everything I do for the rest of my life.

Ari.”

The critically acclaimed, award-winning sci-fi series Orphan Black is set to kick off its fifth and final season on June 10, 2017. The much-anticipated new season of the BBC America series will hopefully provided a satisfying end (at least for now) to the story of the sestras as well as the supporting players who have been integral in the lives of Sarah, Alison, Cosima, Helena, Rachel, and Krystal. Key among the returning Orphan Black supporting cast are Kristian Bruun (‘Donnie Hendrix’), Jordan Gavaris (‘Felix Dawkins’), and Kevin Hanchard (‘Detective Art Bell’), and the trio teamed up at last year’s Comic Con to provide a little insight into the upcoming final season and what it’s been like starring opposite Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany. Also on hand at Comic Con were executive producers Graeme Manson and John Fawcett who explained where season five picks up and what fans can expect from the final season.

The Orphan Black Season 5 Plot: From the moment Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) locked eyes with an unknown identical woman, who jumped to her death – her life has never been the same. She’s found out she’s a clone, that there are multiple clones out there, and multiple factions that sought to hunt, control, betray or kill them. Now, the final showdown with Rachel (Maslany), the one clone at the center of it all who’s sought to destroy her and her sestras from day one begins. And as the walls close in on her, Sarah must decide her next move very carefully, for this time, it’s life or death for everyone she loves.

When we last saw Sarah, she’d been badly beaten in an epic physical battle against Rachel, that left her bruised and broken. Her foster mum, Mrs. S (Maria Doyle Kennedy), and daughter Kira (Skyler Wexler) were taken hostage and her sestra Cosima (Maslany) went missing. Now, Cosima and Alison (Maslany), and their allies have been brought to heel. Even more harrowing is that Kira has joined them in surrender. Rachel, sitting at the head of the Neolution table, has carte blanche access to their clone biology, and with Helena (Maslany) pregnant with twins, her biology is the most coveted of all. Sarah in a desperate attempt to regain control, realizes she must change tactics to pursue a long game. She, and those still able to fight, will uncover the missing pieces of the insidious conspiracy – and finally free themselves from the tyranny that has taken over their lives. Despite the great risk, the fight of her life will either set her and her sestras free, or see them meet their end.

‘Lucifer’ Season 2 Finale Recap: Episode 18-The Good, The Bad and the Crispy

Lucifer Season 2 Episode 18
Tom Ellis and Scarlett Estevez in ‘Lucifer’ (Photo Credit: FOX)

The season two finale of Fox’s Lucifer picks up immediately after Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) was stabbed by Chet and she retaliated by frying his head. Charlotte staples her stomach shut and then drags Chet – and his grotesque, charred head – out of the way while calling in a favor.

Over at Lucifer’s, Amenadiel (DB Woodside) is beside himself over the fact God entrusted him with the final piece of the Flaming Sword. Lucifer (Tom Ellis) refuses to believe that means his brother is their dad’s favorite son and instead chooses to believe it’s God’s way of flipping them off. Amenadiel cannot stop smiling while Lucifer keeps asking him to hand over the key. “I’m the favorite,” says the happy angel as Lucifer threatens him with violence if he doesn’t give him the final piece of the sword. Amenadiel tells his bro he needs to think about what this means and takes off, leaving Lucifer talking to himself.

Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris) returns to her office and is shocked to find Charlotte waiting for her on the couch. Charlotte needs medical attention but can’t let a normal human patch her up. Dr. Linda says patching people up isn’t her thing, however, there’s no saying no to Charlotte.

Charlotte lifts her blouse and the brilliant light streams out, nearly hitting Dr. Linda with its beam. Thankfully, Dr. Linda ducks and doesn’t join Chet as a crispy critter. Instead of using normal medical supplies, Dr. Linda opts for duct tape to shut Charlotte’s wound. Dr. Linda asks if the wound was made by Lucifer, and Charlotte doesn’t understand why Dr. Linda would think that.

Our favorite crime-fighting duo catch a new murder case, but Lucifer needs Chloe’s (Lauren German) help on a personal problem first. He wants to know how to make Amenadiel stop over-thinking things. Lucifer reveals Amenadiel is their dad’s favorite, and Chloe edges closer to figuring out why Lucifer is the way he is.

It turns out the murder they’re investigating is Chet’s, but neither Chloe nor Lucifer realizes it. Chet’s naked and his body is completely shaved, and Ella (Aimee Garcia) doesn’t know what to think of it. She’s also sure the killer bathed him in bleach.

With his brother hogging all of his attention, Lucifer heads over to Dr. Linda’s office but she won’t let him in. He forces his way in anyway and is confused when he sees his mom. Lucifer thinks there’s something sexual going on between Dr. Linda and Charlotte, and Dr. Linda just laughs, uncomfortably. He then notices the hole charred through the wall and realizes something’s up with his mom. She confesses Chet stabbed her and she’s bleeding light. Upset, Lucifer’s sure this means her human body is about to burst, and it’s more important than ever he find Amenadiel. He also lets his mom know they’ve found the final piece to the Flaming Sword, and she’s immediately in a better mood since that means she can return to Heaven to see her children.

As Lucifer is about to head out to hunt for his brother, he warns Charlotte to stay away from humans. She’s forced to confess she’s already had an accident with Chet. Lucifer panics as Chloe’s on the case and she’s “annoyingly good,” and Charlotte agrees they must find Amenadiel ASAP. “If we don’t get you back to Heaven before the detective gets to you, then she is quite literally toast,” says a concerned Lucifer.

Lucifer heads over to his partner’s house and is greeted by Dr. Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) when he pounds on Chloe’s door. Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), head covered in bandages, tells him not to try and fight Dr. Trixie’s treatment. Lucifer explains the situation and he wants Maze to use her bounty hunter skills to find Amenadiel. He doesn’t care Trixie’s listening, but everyone’s favorite kid thinks he’s speaking in adult code and doesn’t take the Flaming Sword stuff seriously. Maze doesn’t know how any of this is her business until Lucifer adds that many humans – including ones she cares about – could get hurt. With a quick glance at Trixie, Maze agrees to help.

Back at the station, Chloe’s called in Chet’s brother, Hector (Marcus Coloma), to talk about Chet’s murder. Hector’s been living in Mexico and isn’t involved in the family business, but he says he truly loved his brother.

Lucifer checks in on Ella’s progress and she admits she hasn’t discovered anything helpful from the Chet murder scene. Chloe joins her partner and Ella reveals there’s a remote possibility a surveillance camera caught a car near the scene. Lucifer’s relieved to hear Ella hasn’t found out anything substantial about the murder, and then he makes the mistake of suggesting only his dad was watching. That gives Ella the idea to check satellite footage.

So, where is Amenadiel while all this is going on? Believe it or not, he’s doing improv! He’s talking to the audience about being God’s favorite son and how he lost faith in God but now understands the truth. After the scene’s finished, Dan (Kevin Alejandro) pulls him aside and lets him know they usually try to avoid talking about religion. Amenadiel thinks he’s got it, and he and his acting partner are given a scenario about a pregnant giraffe in labor to act out. Of course, Amenadiel brings this right back around to his current situation, yelling, “How can I help when I’m supposed to kill my own father?!”

The improv thing isn’t working out, and Dan tells Amenadiel he’s being a little dark. (You think?!)

Elsewhere in the city, Chloe and Lucifer are checking on a van spotted on the satellite footage near their crime scene the night of the murder. The van has dandelions on it, making it stand out, but Lucifer tries to convince Chloe the one they’re about to check out can’t possibly be the only van with dandelions. Lucifer’s attempt to distract Chloe doesn’t work when they witness two people carrying a dead body to the van.

The two very perky Lyon sisters explain they take care of crime scenes and dead body removals, and the man they’re carrying out died two weeks ago of a heart attack. When Chloe asks why their van was outside a crime scene at 3am, one of the sisters, Ava (Stephi Chin-Salvo), confesses she secretly went to see a guy she promised she wasn’t dating anymore.

After they talk to the sisters, Chloe’s frustrated over Lucifer’s attempts to rush the investigation into Chet’s murder. She wants to know if it has to do with his family, but he won’t open up because she wouldn’t understand.

Amenadiel and Dan have another bonding moment ending in a hug and as Dan walks away, Maze shows up. Amenadiel admits he’s not sure he wants to put the Flaming Sword together, launching into a lengthy monologue about his life. Maze has no time for this and tazes him.

Back once again to the police station we go, and Chloe has discovered the boyfriend the cleaner said she went to visit was actually in Vegas at the time of the murder.

Amenadiel comes to at Lucifer’s and confesses he’s hidden his necklace. Maze has already checked to see if he’s hiding it in his butt (Maze takes her job very seriously!) and Amenadiel refuses to give up the location because he doesn’t want them to use the Flaming Sword to slice open the gates of Heaven. He’s decided the necklace was a gift and their dad gave it to him to guard.

While Maze heads out to retrieve Charlotte, Lucifer comes clean with what he really meant to do with the sword. He was going to deliver mom to Heaven and slam the gates after her. Amenadiel doesn’t approve of that plan either, and now he’s committed to keeping their mom away from their dad. Lucifer drops another bombshell on his brother, revealing their mother’s powers are returning and pretty soon they won’t be able to contain her. Maze returns with the news that Charlotte has disappeared.

Charlotte shows up at Dr. Linda’s office and wants to know why Dr. Linda thought Lucifer created the wound. Dr. Linda rambles and tries to blow the question off, but Charlotte’s certain she’s hiding something. She threatens Dr. Linda with being charbroiled if she doesn’t come clean.

Chloe and Dan want to question the crime scene cleaning sisters, but Ava has just turned up dead. Her head is burned to a crisp, just like Chet’s, and Chloe thinks whoever hired the sisters to clean up Chet just cleaned up one of the sisters. The remaining sister, Kathleen (Shannon Chan-Kent), arrives at the scene and is grief-stricken.

Chloe takes Kathleen to the station and she admits her boyfriend Brad needed money and when she got a call asking her to do a job for $100,000, she did it. However, she won’t open up about what went down.

Chloe gives Lucifer a call, tells him about Ava Lyon’s murder, and asks him to come to the station and do his “mojo thing” on Kathleen to find out what she knows about Ava and Chet’s murderer. He’s about to make an excuse when Charlotte shows up and Lucifer rushes to get off the phone, telling Chloe good luck.

When Chloe gets off the phone, Ella wants to know what’s wrong. Chloe admits Lucifer’s hiding something from her, and Ella thinks it’s just something to do with his family. (Ella adds that she thinks Lucifer’s family is bonkers.) Chloe has an idea that maybe Charlotte has something to do with the deaths and that’s what Lucifer’s hiding.

Over at Lux, Charlotte doesn’t admit to murdering Ava, saying she was just out getting some air. Amenadiel leaves it to Lucifer to explain their idea, with Lucifer stammering out that using the Flaming Sword is a “crap” idea. He suggests she find a place of her own away from their dad. She can’t believe they want her back in Hell, and Lucifer assures her this time she’d be in charge. Both of her boys are acting weird, telling her ruling Hell is a great idea, and Charlotte stares at them as if they’ve sprouted multiple heads.

Charlotte confesses Dr. Linda told her Lucifer never planned on going to Heaven. Lucifer tries to leave to check on Dr. Linda, but Charlotte grabs his shirt. Both men acknowledge that she’s angry, but Charlotte claims she’s actually disappointed. She tosses them across the room as if they weigh nothing, destroying the piano when they land. She then demands the necklace but Amenadiel won’t hand it over. He tells her she’ll have to kill him if she wants it. Angry, she says she’ll find another way.

Amenadiel can’t believe his brother thought suggesting she rule Hell was a great idea. As they argue, Lucifer realizes he better go check on Dr. Linda. Amenadiel says it would be better if Lucifer went after mom and he’ll check on Dr. Linda, but he makes sure Lucifer knows he will not give the key to Charlotte.

Charlotte’s watching a merry-go-round when Chloe and Dan show up, hands on their guns. They tracked her cell phone and now they want to place her under arrest. She asks how they figured everything out and claims she won’t resist arrest but she has a request.

Lucifer answers his phone and assumes it’s Chloe, but it’s actually Charlotte. Chloe pats her down as Charlotte tells her son she’s at Santa Monica Pier. “It’s such a beautiful place. So many people,” says Charlotte. Lucifer warns her not to hurt anyone, especially Chloe, and Charlotte says she wouldn’t have to do this if he and Amenadiel gave her the Flaming Sword. Chloe grabs the phone as Charlotte warns Lucifer to get her what she needs.

After she hangs up, Charlotte wants to tell Chloe everything but she wants to do it without Dan.

Charlotte asks if they can go outside and before Charlotte follows Chloe, she grabs Dan, kisses him, and says, “I’ll miss you, Daniel. You were my favorite human.”

Lucifer calls Amenadiel and tells him they have to give their mom the key. There’s no other option. Lucifer begs Amenadiel, telling him Charlotte has Chloe.

Maze is still tracking Charlotte, unaware of everything that’s going down. She arrives at Dr. Linda’s and sees blood on the door handle and when she enters the office, she spots Dr. Linda lying on the floor, badly injured. Maze places her in a chair and tells her she’ll be fine, but Linda’s bleeding from a stomach wound. Linda, crying, confesses she had to tell Charlotte about Lucifer’s plans. She apologizes and says she tried to resist but couldn’t. Maze comforts her and says it wasn’t her fault, promising she’ll be fine. Amenadiel shows up and Maze begs him to help.

Back at the merry-go-round, Lucifer’s arrived and has brought the Flaming Sword with him. Dan immediately jumps to the conclusion Lucifer’s going to stab him for kissing Charlotte, but Lucifer couldn’t care less about that. He’s looking for the key and uses the sword like a metal detector to see where it is on Dan’s body. When he passes the sword over Dan’s front right rocket, the key lifts up and makes his jeans stick out. Lucifer, if he wasn’t deadly serious, would normally be making a penis joke at this point but instead he just grabs it out of Dan’s pocket.

Charlotte admits to Chloe she was involved in Chet’s death. However, she claims to have had nothing to do with Ava’s death.

Lucifer rushes up and he tells Charlotte to let the detective go. He offers her the blade and the key, all while Chloe is completely confused as to why Lucifer believes Charlotte has control of this situation. To make matters worse, Hector Ruiz arrives and points a gun at Charlotte. He demands to know how she could have betrayed his family, while Lucifer tries to convince him if he shoots Charlotte, they’re all dead.

Back at Dr. Linda’s office, she wants to go to a hospital but Amenadiel knows it’s too far away and she won’t make it. Maze says they need more time and Dr. Linda passes out as Amenadiel attempts to summon his powers.

Lucifer continues to plea with Hector to put the gun down, telling him there are many lives at stake. Hector acts like he’s going to lower it and then fires, aiming right at Charlotte. As the bullet leaves his gun, time nearly freezes. (Great timing, Amenadiel!)

Lucifer pushes Charlotte off the boardwalk and falls to the beach down below beside her. He puts the key into the blade and the Flaming Sword lights up. “I’m sorry, mom, but I’m afraid that this ends now,” says Lucifer, pointing the sword at her and edging closer. He tells her she’s used him and used Chloe, but she turns it around and blames his father.

Standing up, Charlotte reminds her son that they have the sword, which means they can get their revenge. Lucifer looks hurt and confused, but determined. He yells at her that he’s not leaving, and she tells him if he gives her the sword she can have her chance to start over. Lucifer reasons that if she goes home, that’s going backward and it’s now time for her to move forward. He slices the air next to her and a slit opens. He can’t believe it worked and then he reveals his plan. She’ll go into this new place and create her own world without his father. She looks genuinely sad over the prospect of creating this new world and never seeing her children again. “You know that if we go back to Heaven, then there will be a war. And in war, there are always casualties,” says an emotional Lucifer.

Charlotte doesn’t want to hurt her kids and she holds Lucifer’s face, tearing up and calling him her Angel. She says she’ll miss him and then reaches her hand out toward the void. Bright lights appear between her body and the hole, and then the body of Charlotte falls to the sand. Lucifer removes the key and keeps it but tosses the blade into the hole before it closes.

Time returns to its normal speed and Chloe fires at Hector. Dan looks over the railing and sees Charlotte on the sand with Lucifer standing nearby.

Amenadiel sinks to the couch in Dr. Linda’s office. He looks spent but then he gently laughs.

At the hospital, Maze watches as Dr. Linda is taken away to be operated on.

Dan rushes to the beach and checks for Charlotte’s pulse. Lucifer believes she’s dead but then Charlotte begins coughing. When he calls her “mom,” she looks confused and says her kids are 10. She has no idea what’s happening or why she’s at the beach. She doesn’t recognize Dan or know why she fell off the pier.

Charlotte’s taken away by ambulance as Chloe informs Lucifer she believes Hector killed Chet and Ava. Ella apparently found a blowtorch in Hector’s car, confirming Chloe’s suspicions. Chloe asks why Lucifer didn’t let her in on what he suspected right away, and she tells him she would forgive him for his mistakes and flaws. She adds that if he doesn’t think she knows him for who he really is, he’s wrong. She walks away as Lucifer remains silent.

Lucifer pays a visit to Dr. Linda at the hospital, taking the blame and admitting he never should have gotten her involved in any of this. Linda actually manages to laugh a little, saying she knew she was dealing with the most dysfunctional family in the universe. She says she chose to be his friend and accepts everything that friendship comes with. This week it’s Dr. Linda’s turn to utter the episode’s title as she tells him that means she accepts “the good, the bad, and the crispy.”

As Dr. Linda explains this, Lucifer realizes there’s something he needs to do. However, for once he doesn’t do what he needs/wants to do and devotes himself to focusing on Dr. Linda. She smiles at this huge step forward and this huge act of friendship.

Later, Lucifer calls Chloe and leaves a message apologizing for being elusive. He also tells her he’s on his way over to tell her the truth about himself! “I think it’s time I finally opened your eyes to why strange things sometimes happen around me,” reveals Lucifer. He’s going to tell her everything. As he hangs up, someone hits him on the head, knocking him out.

The next scene reveals a sunny desert and a shirtless Lucifer lying in the sand. He’s in bad shape and it looks like his skin is peeling off in places from a horrible sunburn. He stands and looks confused, but then his expression changes. Gorgeous white wings unfurl from his back as he smiles and looks toward Heaven. The camera pulls back, retreating even further to show a vast desert with Lucifer standing alone.

‘American Gods’ Season 1 Episode 5 Recap: Lemon Scented You

American Gods Season 1 Episode 5

Starz’ American Gods season one episode five features the reunion of the back-from-the-dead Laura Moon (Emily Browning) with her hubby, Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle). It also features the much-anticipated introduction of Mr. World, played by Crispin Glover, and a memorable performance by Gillian Anderson. Airing on May 28, 2017, episode five titled ‘Lemon Scented You’ brings back Mad Sweeney – a character who deserves more screen time – and continues to tie together the storylines of the New Gods and the Old Gods.

The episode begins with the tale being told of a harsh journey from Siberia across the land bridge to the New World. Many people, including babies and children, died on the trip despite the fact the travelers didn’t make the trip alone. They brought their god, Nunyunnini, but still the land was unforgiving. Nunyunnini showed the people what to do, explaining their survival came at a terrible price.

The trip back in time swiftly changes to reveal Laura Moon waiting patiently for her husband while flies continue to be attracted to her dead flesh. She’s seated on the bed in his motel room and when Shadow Moon opens the door, he initially can’t believe his eyes. He picks up a pillow and throws it at her face, just to see if she’s actually real. (Good thing there wasn’t a rock nearby!) He’s hesitant to sit next to her on the bed, reminding her they have “unresolved issues.”

Shadow wants to discuss Robbie, but first Laura would like to talk about the miracle of her being in his motel room. Shadow’s over the shock surprisingly quickly, due in large part to all the crazy stuff he’s experienced since getting out of jail. He wants the details on her affair with Robbie, and she briefly discusses her history with Robbie while Shadow was gone. She says she waited 13 months before sleeping with Robbie, blaming the first time on the cat dying. Laura says she loves him, not Robbie, and wouldn’t have left him if she was alive.

Shadow asks about the night she died, and she explains it was a good-bye blowjob that caused the accident. She confesses she wasn’t scared when it happened, and she remembers being in a box and that’s it. She asks if he can get her a cigarette and when he leaves to go buy a pack, the brilliant, ethereal lights surround him as he walks out the door.

Someone’s watching from a car in the parking lot as he returns to his room.

Laura’s in the bathtub warming up her body, just in case he wants to touch her. The topic of conversation turns to a discussion of people who are dead staying in their graves.

Meanwhile, a crow knocks on Mr. Wednesday’s motel room door. He understands it when it squawks and is taken by surprise by what it has to say.

Laura lights up in the bathtub, but she can’t really taste the cigarette. Shadow places her wedding ring on the edge of the tub and then confesses he had a feeling he wouldn’t see her again when they last spoke on the phone. He thought she was going to die. He tells his undead wife a storm’s coming across the country and nothing feels okay.

Laura rises from the tub, naked and with the autopsy stitches clearly visible. There’s also stitching around her shoulder where her arm was reattached to her body, and Shadow backs away from her slightly as she approaches. (Absolutely do not blame him for this reaction!) They kiss, the gorgeous light surrounds them, and Laura’s heart beats once. She confesses she felt alive when they kissed. She tells him, again, she loves him. She also says she knows he’s mixed up in weird sh*t and she thanks him for the coin he left on her grave. When she asks if he’s still her puppy, Shadow says no.

Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) disturbs their reunion by knocking on the door. He wants to go for a drink but Shadow doesn’t want to go with him. Shadow blocks him from coming inside the room as Laura sinks back underwater in the tub.

Squad cars race up, lights blazing as the men stand outside Shadow’s motel room. Mr. Wednesday and Shadow are placed under arrest for bank robbery while inside the room, Laura watches as Shadow’s light gets further away.

And now we catch up with the New Gods. Media, appearing as David Bowie (played by Gillian Anderson), informs Technical Boy (Bruce Langley) he has an image problem. They talk about how Technical Boy hung Shadow from a tree and Media tells him he must apologize and he reluctantly agrees, saying to pass his apology along to Mr. World. However, Mr. World doesn’t want the apology for himself. Instead, he wants Technical Boy to issue an apology to Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon – and to make it a sincere apology. What Technical Boy did lit a fire under Mr. Wednesday and the results could be disastrous.

Shadow Moon’s interrogated at the station, answering all questions with a request for a lawyer while Mr. Wednesday plays crazy in his interrogation. When the officer interrogating Mr. Wednesday asks what he was up to in Chicago, Mr. Wednesday pledges to only tell the truth. “I was recruiting a tired but still vital god of death into a war against the New Gods who very rightly fear him as much as they should fear me but don’t, yet,” explains Mr. Wednesday.

Officer Buffer (Tracie Thoms) reveals to Shadow it was an anonymous tip that led them to the motel. The tip came via a FAX over a FAX machine that hasn’t been turned on in years. The FAX included their GPS coordinates and exact details on their car. Buffer wonders why someone would rat them out which snags Shadow’s attention.

Back with Mr. Wednesday, he’s talking about Mad Sweeney the leprechaun who is an idiot and Mr. Nancy who comes at this from “the specific vantage of the bitterly dispossessed.”

Shadow’s interrogation has turned up the fact he and Mr. Wednesday have powerful enemies, and the officer wants to know what he knows. Shadow says he wants out if he talks.

Back at the motel, Laura finally leaves the tub and gets dressed. Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber) breaks through the motel room door and demands his coin. He sees it inside Laura, but she simply flicks his chest and he flies across the room. Laura says it’s her coin, but Mad Sweeney is sure the dead can’t actually own things. She hits him again and isn’t about to give back his coin even when Mad Sweeney says it wasn’t Shadow’s coin to give away. It was a special coin, meant for someone who was royalty or important – definitely not for Shadow’s cheating dead wife.

Mad Sweeney continues to demand the coin and Laura continues to injure him in response. She threatens to kick him in the balls if he doesn’t answer her question, so he reluctantly agrees. Laura asks how he met Shadow and he explains the bar fight and that Mr. Wednesday is the one who set it up. Mr. Wednesday is a god, and Mad Sweeney says neither she nor Shadow should trust him. Mad Sweeney then offers her dozens of gold coins in exchange for the one Shadow gave her. Laura doesn’t take him up on his offer since the coin inside her is apparently what brought her back to life. She warns him he’ll never get his coin back, but Mad Sweeney says he’ll get it once all the meat slides off her bones which could be soon if she keeps soaking in hot water.

Mad Sweeney continues his attack and tackles Laura, holding her under water in the tub as two cops rush in and grab him. He tries to tell them Laura’s not dead, but she plays dead in the water while the cops are there. (An easy acting job as she’s really dead.)

Shadow’s brought into the interrogation room with Mr. Wednesday and they’re told to talk it out. Mr. Wednesday doesn’t want to talk, even when the cop puts the photos from the robbery on the table between them. Only after Shadow and Mr. Wednesday are left alone in the room does Mr. Wednesday explains the photos are a “god’s eye view of the world.” They need to escape now or else. Mr. Wednesday pops off the handcuffs with the help of a friendly spider.

Shadow realizes Mr. Wednesday’s afraid and demands to know who’s after them. They hear screaming and destruction from somewhere close by in the police station and then Media, appearing as Marilyn Monroe, shows up in the interrogation room, floating on air. She’s wearing the iconic The Seven Year Itch white dress and claims she was murdered by the CIA who jabbed a needle into her eyeball.

Shadow’s freaking out and needs assurance this is real. As they speak, the cameras in the station all short circuit. Mr. World (Crispin Glover) arrives and greets Mr. Wednesday, apologizing for not reaching out earlier. Mr. World says only now is he seeing Mr. Wednesday clearly. When he turns his attention to Shadow, Mr. Wednesday instructs Shadow not to talk to Mr. World, advising him not to say one single word. Shadow doesn’t listen and answers Mr. World and then listens, stunned, as he describes Shadow’s life perfectly. Mr. World’s face pixelates as he speaks.

Mr. World whistles for Technical Boy who arrives quickly with an apology. Mr. World offers Technical Boy to Shadow, asking if he wants to beat him. Shadow doesn’t, and Technical Boy takes a seat at the table. Technical Boy, Media, and Mr. World all want to help Mr. Wednesday find his audience, offering a truce. They want to work together and merge, with Mr. World claiming everything is interlaced: “a single product manufactured by a single company.” Mr. World proposes the New Gods and the Old Gods become one, and Media shows off a video of the Odin rocket raining missiles down on North Korea, killing 24.9 million people. “Brand rebranded, and that’s just the start,” says Mr. World.

Mr. Wednesday realizes he’s drawn their attention for a reason, and he views their offer of a merger as an attempt to exile him. While the New Gods only occupy humans’ time, the Old Gods gave their lives meaning. Mr. World turns to leave and Technical Boy can’t believe he’s letting Mr. Wednesday go. Mr. World says he’s giving Mr. Wednesday time to consider his offer, explaining he has wisdom and knowledge and should have their respect.

Technical Boy is livid, losing what little self-control he has left and telling Mr. World, “F*ck respect!” Media blows him a kiss from across the room, blooding Technical Boy’s nose and knocking out two of his front teeth. Mr. World declares that’s a gift to Shadow. The New Gods leave, with Mr. World whispering, “I’m not your enemy.”

Shadow is unsure if what just happened actually happened. They make their way out of the police station, passing by dead officers on their way to the door. Before they can leave, a squad car pulls up with Mad Sweeney in the backseat.

Inside the station, branches of a tree make their way through walls and chase Shadow out the back door.

Mad Sweeney is still in the car when he hears the two officers who were delivering him to the station fire their guns. He kicks out a window and escapes with his arms still handcuffed behind his back.

Meanwhile, a morgue attendant watches as someone inside one of the drawers seems to be attempting to kick her way out. The drawer flies opens, knocking the attendant across the room. Laura emerges, naked, and checks herself out in the mirror. She kisses her reflection and then notices a dead woman on one of the slabs. The woman is a Jane Doe and Laura takes her clothing.

‘The White Princess’ Season 1 Episode 7 Recap: Two Kings

The White Princess episode 7 Patrick Gibson

Unfortunately, there’s only one more episode left in Starz’s The White Princess first season following the airing of episode seven, ‘Two Kings,’ on May 28, 2017. Episode eight titled ‘Old Curses’ is set to end the season on June 4, 2017, but hopefully this well-written, entertaining, period drama featuring outstanding performances by the entire ensemble will return for a second season. There’s certainly a great deal of story still left to tell.

Episode seven begins with Lady Margaret (Michelle Fairley) returning to court with Prince Richard (Patrick Gibson). From her window high above, Lizzie (Jodie Comer) gets her first look at this young man who claims to be her brother. King Henry (Jacob Collins-Levy) doesn’t believe they look anything alike, but Lizzie remains silent.

King Henry and Queen Elizabeth are dressed in royal attire and seated on their thrones as Prince Richard is brought before them and tossed to his knees. He and Lizzie stare at each other as King Henry announces Richard will be hung, drawn, and quartered. Richard takes this news stoically, telling Henry it’s what he needs to do if he wants to remain on his throne. Richard declares he’s the son of King Edward IV and Queen Elizabeth Woodville while continuing to stare at Lizzie. “I am rightful King of England. You thought that I was murdered, but I live,” says Richard. “You will stand aside and return to me the crown and throne which have been stolen from me or you will face the righteous wrath of all-mighty God who will rage against your sin and cast you into hell.”

King Henry considers this for a brief moment and then slowly claps. Henry turns to Lizzie and asks if Richard is her brother. After a brief pause, Lizzie confirms her brothers are dead. Henry declares Richard will be the Knave of the King’s Wardrobe until he decides what he wants to do with him.

Lady Margaret’s furious Henry didn’t immediately put Richard to death, but Henry – and Lizzie – stand firm by the decision to let him live for now. Henry thinks killing Richard will make him a martyr, giving him the power he seeks. Instead, Henry will humiliate Richard until he gives up his claim.

That evening, Lady Margaret meets with Bishop Morton (Kenneth Cranham) and reveals she wants Richard’s wife and child found. The Bishop believes they’ve sought sanctuary in the church, but Rome has dictated traitors can’t find refuge within church walls any longer. Lady Margaret asks Bishop Morton to make the wife want to come to her husband, rather than being forced to do so.

Maggie (Rebecca Benson) visits with Lizzie’s sons and their chat about whether Prince Richard is a relative is cut short when Lizzie arrives. After her boys leave, Lizzie tells Maggie (who believes Richard’s story) he is not her brother.

Prince Richard is taken outside to be paraded through the streets. Maggie refuses to accompany her husband as Richard’s being humiliated, calling the vulgar display a blood sport. Meanwhile, Lizzie assures Prince Arthur that Richard is not his uncle but simply someone who has York looks.

King Henry and Queen Elizabeth lead the procession as the citizens throw food and stones at Richard. Richard stills their arms when he says Lizzie is a “natural Queen” and he won’t find pleasure in taking the throne from her. He also assures the people Lizzie’s only doing this to protect her sons. The people of London grow quiet as the procession continues down the road. As Richard walks, he’s close enough behind Lizzie to tell her, “Our mother hid me on the night the soldiers came for you. We didn’t say goodbye as you were angry with me. You’ve always felt our mother loved me more than you,” recalls Richard. “I miss you, Lizzie. I wish you would speak to me, but I forgive you.”

The people lining the street are now on Richard’s side and Lady Margaret commands the guards to return Richard to the palace. The public humiliation did not go as planned.

Once back in her room, Lizzie breaks down and looks at the ring she wears on her pinkie. She clutches that hand to her chest.

Richard’s brought to King Henry’s closet where he’ll be spending whatever time he has left in the castle.

The Duchess of Burgundy (Joanne Whalley) has not given up and has accompanied a few of her men on the search. One of her men informs her Richard’s being held at Westminster Palace.

Lady Catherine (Amy Manson) and her baby arrive at the court escorted by Bishop Morton. Lizzie and Maggie have no idea why she’s there, and it’s Lady Margaret who welcomes her to court. Catherine’s brought to where she can see her husband in the courtyard refusing to shovel horse manure. Catherine watches as her husband is pushed roughly to the ground, inches from the manure. She demands to know what’s going on, and Lizzie arrives to tell her Richard’s claims are false. Lady Margaret says Catherine’s marriage to Richard has been annulled, Catherine will go back to her maiden name, and now her baby is a bastard.

Catherine asks if she’s a prisoner and Lady Margaret assures her she’s their guest. However, if she wants to leave, then the baby must remain behind. As the midwives rip her baby away, Catherine calls out to the departing Lizzie asking her not to allow this. Lizzie ignores her pleas.

Catherine’s finally allowed to see Richard and they embrace and kiss. Richard’s horrified she’s at court with their baby, knowing what will happen to their heir. He told her to stay away and only now does Catherine realize she’s made a grave mistake. King Henry and Lady Margaret are eavesdropping on the conversation as Richard reminds Catherine the people who now rule his country are the ones who killed his brother and the other boy in the Tower and disposed of their bodies.

Catherine tells Richard of Lady Margaret’s offer to allow her to return to Scotland without the baby. Richard immediately says he’ll give up his claim, but Catherine doesn’t want him to. She won’t let him do that because it’s the only thing keeping him safe. Scotland would abandon him if he gave up the claim to the throne.

King Henry and Lady Margaret discuss what they’ve just heard, and he doesn’t understand why Richard believes a Tudor killed the boys in the Tower. Henry’s certain it was King Richard who had the boys murdered, and Lady Margaret agrees and calls Prince Richard a fake and a fool. (Lies slip easily off Lady Margaret’s tongue!)

In bed that evening, Henry explains Catherine was brought to court to break the link between Prince Richard and King James’ Scottish army. Lizzie’s not sure how he’ll break the union since Catherine actually cares for Richard, even though he has nothing to offer her. Henry tells Lizzie to take Catherine as her lady, which should soothe the Scots. He then asks about her brother and Lizzie is reluctant to answer. He all but demands she describe everything about the last day she saw him.

The scene switches to the streets where Richard’s being made to carry Henry’s weapons as the Royal Court heads out on a hunt. They stop in a clearing to hunt, and Henry commands Richard to beat the bushes with a stick. Both King Henry and Lady Margaret aim their bows and shoot near the feet of Richard.

While this is going on, Maggie and Catherine quietly talk about Catherine’s predicament. Catherine knows Maggie believes Richard is legitimate and tells her to back his claim if she wants her brother, Teddy, freed from the Tower. Lizzie notices them whispering and calls for Maggie to come and stay beside her.

King Henry is the next to approach Catherine as Richard continues to beat the bushes. He asks her to dine with them that evening and she turns him down. Henry promises to make sure she’s taken care of.

Lizzie rides up behind Richard and asks him who’s the patron saint of hunting. He responds correctly, adding that it was Uncle Anthony who taught them about that saint. Henry, angry, begins shooting arrows in Richard’s direction which upsets Lizzie.

“You know I am your brother,” says Richard as Lizzie tells Henry to stop shooting. Richard, unwisely, uses this opportunity to tell King Henry if he steps aside, his family will be well taken care of. Henry repeatedly commands Richard to shut up, but he doesn’t. Henry, now furious, rides up to where Richard is standing but just feet away his horse rears up and Henry’s crown falls from his head to the ground. Richard eyes it and then picks up it, only reluctantly handing it to Henry. Richard then smiles and Lizzie looks grief-stricken. The hunt is called off and they return to the palace.

During this incredible stand-off, Maggie has wandered after a bird. She’s grabbed from behind and a man places his hand over her mouth. He delivers a message from the Duchess of Burgundy asking her to come to the market at midnight. He runs away before Maggie can react.

Back at court, Lizzie questions Maggie on her conversation with Catherine. She then demands Maggie serve as one of her ladies. Maggie had hoped to return home, but Lizzie wants Maggie and Sir Richard Pole to remain at court since Henry trusts them.

Prince Richard circulates pouring wine for those assembled at court for dinner. King Henry’s nowhere to be seen, and Richard tells Lizzie she looks like their mother did when their father was off with his mistress, Jane Shore. Lizzie leaves the dining hall, sending her ladies away as she visits her boys’ bedroom.

Maggie’s able to sneak out and meets with the Duchess of Burgundy. The Duchess wants Maggie’s help rescuing Richard, Catherine, and the baby. She knows Richard’s being kept in the King’s Wardrobe and she’s seen the laundry barges go by on the river, barges that could carry Richard to safety if he managed to escape the locked room. Maggie doesn’t want to be involved because it would mean instant death to Teddy, and the Duchess assures her Teddy will never be free anyway while Henry is King. If Richard’s King, they will free Teddy.

Lizzie confronts Catherine, insulting the way she looks as Catherine admits she had a “prodigious” night with Henry as was his wish. Catherine is affected by this and slaps Catherine’s forehead, calling her empty-headed. She asks if Henry touched her or if she touched him, and Catherine says no to both questions. Lizzie deliberately spills a chamber pot and commands Catherine to clean it up.

As Prince Richard, Lady Catherine, Lizzie, and members of the court walk outside the palace, King Henry walks by Catherine and smiles. He then says loud enough for everyone, including Richard, to hear, “Quite a night I had with Lady Catherine. I am spent.”

Lizzie instantly confronts Henry and asks about his motivation. She points out Catherine and Richard are in love and Henry will not be able to turn her against her husband. Henry seems determined to try, thinking it will take away Richard’s strength. He explains that everywhere Richard goes, noble men and women are drawn to him. “He taunts me with his dazzle,” says Henry. Henry adds that even Lizzie’s affected by Richard’s presence, assuring her he’ll toss Richard into darkness soon. When he tries to take her hand, Lizzie refuses to give it to him.

At dinner, King Henry commands Catherine to dance for him. Even Lady Margaret disapproves of Henry’s tactics. However, as Lizzie watches Catherine and Richard dance, she tells Lady Margaret that although Catherine may think she’s influencing Henry, it’s she who’s being played like a puppet. When Lady Margaret suggests the King is taken with Catherine, Lizzie claims it’s all an act. Lady Margaret then hints that when the baby is sent to the Tower, Catherine will leave.

Lady Margaret tells Lizzie not to object to Henry sleeping with Catherine since Henry is the King. Lizzie leaves dinner before it’s finished as King Henry and Catherine continue dancing. She passes by Richard who tells her she should not react to this. Maggie then whispers to Richard when they’re alone that the Duchess of Burgundy is planning a rescue. He asks after his son and says he won’t leave him in Tudor hands. He adds, “I am the King and I am winning.”

Lizzie is alone in her bedroom, tossing and turning. She rises and goes to Henry’s room, but his bed has not been slept in.

The next morning, every woman Lizzie passes appears to be gossiping about Henry and Catherine. Lizzie confronts him once again, telling him he’s disrespected her and shamed her. Henry reminds her she did the same thing with her uncle King Richard. Lizzie reminds him she was in love with King Richard which makes it different. Lizzie asks if Henry loves Catherine and he responds by asking her if she loves Prince Richard. Lizzie says she doesn’t, calling Richard and Catherine her burden. (It sounded as if Lizzie was about to say, “He is my brother,” and Henry reacted as if startled.) Lizzie tells her husband Catherine and Richard are tearing them apart and must be dealt with.

Lizzie and Lady Margaret visit baby Edward, named after Lizzie’s murdered brother. Lady Margaret reminds her to see that baby for who he will become.

Prince Richard is once more brought before King Henry and Queen Elizabeth, and Lizzie demands he read a letter out loud. It names Richard as Perkin Warbeck, the son of a boatman. If he confesses that’s his true identity, then his family will live. Richard says, “My name is Prince Richard of York, your brother!” Lizzie screams at him to read the note while Catherine tells him not to deny his birthright.

Lady Margaret adds to the drama by announcing baby Edward will be brought up by a family in London, and Catherine and Richard protest. They will forfeit their son because they have threatened Henry’s family’s life. Catherine begs Henry but he pays her no attention as he storms out of the room.

Away from the crowd, King Henry asks his mother what she’s done with the baby. She tells him not to concern himself and Henry doesn’t want to be protected from the truth. He wants to know what it was Jasper was about to reveal right before he died, but Lady Margaret does not reveal her secret.

Maggie tends to a quivering Catherine, trying to get her to rise from Lizzie’s bed. When Lizzie enters the room and demands Catherine get up, Maggie asks Lizzie how she could have done this to a baby. Lizzie’s having none of this from Maggie, telling her she doesn’t like who she’s become.

Prince Richard is once again brought in front of King Henry and Queen Elizabeth. He’s given the letter to read denouncing his claim to the throne, and this time he reads it as written. The letter includes a confession that he impersonated Richard the Duke of York and that he’ll accept his sentence.

Sir Richard Pole (Andrew Whipp) finds Maggie and tells her to apologize to the Queen for insulting her. She won’t, and she realizes Teddy will never be let out of the Tower.

King Henry’s troubles are not over as no one believes Richard is Perkin Warbeck. And because he read the proclamation, Richard/Perkin cannot be tried for treason since he’s not an Englishman.

Lizzie meets Maggie in the hallway and demands an apology. Maggie won’t apologize and instead reminds her about the curse. Since Lady Margaret killed Lizzie’s brother and the servant boy, one of Lizzie’s sons is living in the curse’s shadow. Lizzie corrects her, saying King Richard killed the boys. Maggie can’t understand why Lizzie would say that now, knowing Lizzie was in love with King Richard. Maggie says the idea of King Richard killing the boys is a lie, and it was Lady Margaret who killed the boys. “Lady Margaret killed the first prince and if you even think there is a chance that boy is your brother Richard, then you cannot hurt him, Lizzie, or the curse falls on your sons as well,” says Maggie. Maggie adds that she’s aware Lizzie knows Richard/Perkin is her brother.

King Henry is visibly uncomfortable while seated at dinner, removing articles of clothing as though they were full of bugs. He’s also muttering about Richard/Perkin laughing at him. Henry suddenly yells, “They’re poisoned,” and Lizzie rushes to his side. Henry thinks Richard poisoned his clothes and continues to rip them off, following Richard as he’s hauled away from the dining hall. The guards throw Richard onto the floor and Henry begins viciously kicking him. Lizzie tells Henry to stop and he finally does, leaving Richard bloodied but alive.

Henry is in a horrible state when he returns to his room, complaining the more he tries to break Richard, the more Richard is loved. “They whisper. They say God hates me. They would kill me and our sons,” says Henry, looking pale and ill.

The next morning Lizzie approaches Maggie and hands her the key to Richard’s room. She says Richard can see Catherine that evening.

Maggie rushes to Richard’s room and finds him with his face still bloody and torn up. Richard struggles to speak, now understanding that Maggie believes he’s truly Richard. They leave the room and Maggie helps Richard walk as he’s too weak to do it on his own.

Meanwhile, Lizzie sets King Henry’s Wardrobe on fire. She hurries to Catherine’s room where she finds her cradling Richard on her lap and tending to his cuts. Lizzie tells them to leave immediately, revealing the fire will make everyone believe Richard burned to death. Lizzie tells them they must disappear together and never be seen again. She warns them to give up their claim, buy land, and start over. They will be presumed dead so they can’t appear in public or use their names.

Catherine keeps asking questions and Lizzie tells her she’s giving them a chance to escape but they have to flee now. Although she hasn’t called him Richard, he’s sure with this action that Lizzie believes he’s her brother. “You would not go against your husband for a boat builder’s son but you would to save your brother. You know that I am Richard,” says an emotional Richard. Lizzie begs them to leave and she’ll make sure their baby is brought to them and that they’ll be safe.

Catherine asks Richard to make the decision for them.

Shortly thereafter, men work hard trying to put out the fire and Catherine cries out for her husband. Lizzie says he must be dead, and Lady Margaret thinks Richard started the fire and his death is God’s work.

The work on extinguishing the fire pauses as a very much alive Richard emerges from the flames. Bloody and disheveled, Richard falls to his knees and says, “I am the son of King Edward IV and Queen Elizabeth Woodville. I lived through battle, walked through fire, and I will have the throne of England!”

Lizzie can only shake her head and cry as she looks at Richard.
