Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to the world of supernatural creatures after a seven-year run in Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a starring role in the werewolf series, Wolf Pack. Gellar’s casting was announced during the Teen Wolf: The Movie panel at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, with Gellar surprising the packed audience with a special appearance.
Sarah Michelle Gellar joins previously announced stars Armani Jackson (Honor Society) as Everett, Bella Shepard (The Wilds) as Blake, Chloe Rose Robertson (Wildflower) as Luna, and Tyler Lawrence Gray (Our Town) as Harlan.
Teen Wolf series creator Jeff Davis is writing and executive producing Wolf Pack as part of his deal with MTV Entertainment Studios. Jason Ensler and Capital Arts’ Joe Genier and Mike Elliott also executive produce.
Paramount+ is targeting a late 2022 premiere.
Paramount+ released this synopsis of Wolf Pack:
“Based on the book series by Edo Van Belkom, Wolf Pack follows a teenage boy and girl whose lives are forever changed when a California wildfire awakens a terrifying supernatural creature. Gellar stars as arson investigator Kristin Ramsey, a highly regarded expert in her field and no stranger to personal loss, brought in by authorities to catch the teenage arsonist who started a massive wildfire which may have also led to the reawakening of a supernatural predator terrorizing Los Angeles.”
On Thursday, July 21st, we grabbed a quick interview with Jeff Davis on the red carpet at Fandom’s 2022 San Diego Comic-Con party. Davis talked about reuniting with his Teen Wolf stars for Teen Wolf: The Movie, which he’s writing and executive producing, and briefly touched on Wolf Pack. (Apologies for the mono audio—the setting switched before it was uploaded. I’m blaming it on the craziness of Comic-Con!)

Keanu Reeves surprised fans at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con by putting in an appearance alongside director Chad Stahelski to show off a special sneak peek at John Wick: Chapter 4. The new one-minute video finds John Wick asked if he’s given any thought to where this ends. He’s also warned no one can kill everyone before Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King shows up to ask if he’s ready for what’s to come. Based on the footage in the clip, the answer’s yes.
Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and Ian McShane join Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne for the fourth chapter of the John Wick saga. Chad Stahelski, director of all of the previous John Wick films, is back at the helm, and Shay Hatten and Michael Finch wrote the screenplay.
Lionsgate’s targeting a March 24, 2023 theatrical release.
The Plot: John Wick (Reeves) takes on his most lethal adversaries yet in the upcoming fourth installment of the series. Rather than standalones film focused on Andrew Lincoln’s The Walking Dead character, Rick Grimes, AMC Networks is planning a new TWD series starring Lincoln and Danai Gurira as Michonne. The announcement was made during AMC’s final San Diego Comic-Con panel for The Walking Dead.
“Michonne and this TWD family has meant so much to me, and to continue the journey of these beloved characters, alongside Scott and Andy, both creatively and in front of the camera, and bringing The Walking Dead fans something truly special is just glorious. I can’t wait to pick up the katana again,” said Gurira.
AMC’s targeting a 2023 premiere for the six-episode season. Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe Scott M. Gimple is set to guide the series as showrunner. Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are executive producing and, according to AMC, have been “actively involved in conceiving the creative and the continuation of their characters’ story.”
“This is a moment fans of The Walking Dead have been waiting for since Rick disappeared in the helicopter early in season nine, and Michonne journeyed away on a quest to find him the following season,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “What a great surprise for the fans at this final Comic-Con for the series that launched this universe and made television history. We couldn’t be more excited for a truly epic series finale later this year and to see Andy and Danai return in a new series they helped create, one of three new series coming in 2023 that continue the stories of so many iconic and fan-favorite TWD characters.”
“This has been the most extraordinary journey playing Rick Grimes for the best part of a decade. The friendships I’ve made along the way are deep and lasting, so it’s fitting that I finally get to complete the story with Danai and Scott and the rest of the TWD family,” said Lincoln. “I’m so excited to be returning to the screen as Rick, reuniting with Danai as Michonne, and bringing the fans an epic love story to add to The Walking Dead Universe.”
AMC offered up this synopsis of the untitled spinoff:
“This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
‘Alone’ Season 9 competitor Adam (Photo by: Brendan George Ko / The History Channel)
The History Channel’s Alone season nine episode nine opens with only four survivalists left in the competition. The weather’s turning frosty and game is getting more and more difficult to find. None of the four survivalists have any food stored up at this point, and even fishing is now pretty much out of the question.
Episode nine – “The Ice Up” – takes viewers from Day 47 through Day 52. It ends with three survivalists still in the competition.
Adam, Age 36, Fayetteville, AR
Day 48: The wind’s howling and Adam didn’t get much sleep. He’s feeling deep hunger pains that have kept him awake. He’s determined to get some food today and heads out hunting as the wind blows. The winds are strong enough to topple trees.
Adam’s been following the river the last few weeks and searching for grouse. All he has left right now is half a grouse, and he’s lost 51 pounds since the season started.
Adam realizes he’s lost an arrow; it fell out of his quiver. That forces him to backtrack to try and locate it. He’s tired of bushwhacking and admits he doesn’t have the energy for it. He takes a tumble right after announcing there’s some ankle-breaking stuff in this area. Adam’s not injured but needs a minute to regroup.
After burning a lot of calories and losing another arrow (he’s down to four), Adam decides to head back to his camp. He’s missing his family more than he ever has before and blames it on the isolation and not knowing his loved ones are okay.
Adam knows he needs to take things one day at a time if he wants to stay in the game.
Day 50: Adam preps for the day and jokes he doesn’t have to waste time eating breakfast since he doesn’t have anything to eat. The day will be all about hunting. A sprinkling of snow covers the ground, and the river’s icing up.
He needs to conserve calories, but hunting is making that difficult. He spots a grouse, takes a shot, and kills it. “We’ve got something to eat tonight!” says Adam. “I can’t tell you what this bird means to me. I’m so hungry, and I’m really deeply, deeply appreciative.”
Adam admits he’s getting burned out on killing things and watching them die. It’s taken a toll on him.
Day 52: Adam shows off the loose skin in his stomach area. He’s looking skinny and the hunger’s getting to him. Adam guesses he’s losing a pound a day and realizes he needs to focus on getting a bear.
Adam heads to an area he dubs “the back lot” which is a long walk for someone who isn’t eating. Every day’s been a challenge and he admits his legs are “gassed.” He’s been stumbling and knows he can’t continue. It sounds like he’s ready to tap.
Adam doesn’t see any bear signs, and grouse and squirrels aren’t cutting it. He doesn’t have 20 days worth of weight to lose. He worries about permanently messing up his body if he stays.
He returns to his camp and a grouse is sitting there, just waiting for him. Today, the bird will live because Adam’s going home. He’s sad about his time coming to an end, but his legs have turned to lead and it’s just too hard to move.
Adam chooses a pretty, scenic spot to tap out. He doesn’t want to wait to get medically pulled and decides to go out of his own volition.
He’s excited to see his loved ones and says he loves them deeper than he ever has in his whole life because of this experience. He gave everything he had during this competition, every single day.
“I want to encourage anyone to just get outside and to learn, and to try new things. You don’t have to be a professional survivalist; you just need to have some tenacity…some skills,” says Adam as he leaves his moss house for the final time.
‘Alone’ season 9 competitor Karie (Photo by: Brendan George Ko / The History Channel)
Karie Lee, Age 57, Sandpoint, ID
Day 47: Karie sings yet another song about the wilderness and then is off hiking to a new site. It’s a new moon, so the animals should be more active.
Her muskrat lasted three days and she’s hoping to get more meat. She hears a squirrel way up in a tree and takes a shot. It misses but the arrow bounces back. She’s not so fortunate with her second shot and is forced to search for her missing arrow.
Karie realizes her aim’s off and that needs to change – or else. She finds her missing arrow and reprises her most recent song.
Day 49: The ground’s covered with snow and it’s bitter cold. Her goal is to check her trap line and put up a few more where she’s noticed squirrel activity. She’s decided to change her hunting plan from shooting to trapping.
Night falls and Karie feels at peace. She didn’t find any food in her traps, but that doesn’t matter. She’s happy she’s just present for this experience.
Karie miscarried at four months when she was 36. She experienced giving birth and learned about death, and to know how to live you need to know how to die. It’s also taught her about judging herself for successes and failures.
Day 51: Karie’s in a good mood as she points out the river’s now frozen over. “Winter, here we come. Bring it on!” says Karie.
She switches her fishing pole over to a walking stick since fishing is done, and she’s going to use the walking stick when she’s hunting and trapping.
Karie checks the traps and discovers something went through the first one but didn’t get snagged. She has better luck on the next one and has snared a squirrel. He’s completely frozen and she laughs, giving it a kiss. “I’ve got frozen dinner for tonight!” she chuckles.
She cooks it all and decides to save a leg to eat tomorrow.
Karie explains the songs she sings help ground her to the earth and help with her spiritual connection to the wilderness.
‘Alone’ season 9 competitor Juan (Photo by: Brendan George Ko / The History Channel)
Juan Pablo, Age 30, Pinawa, CAN
Day 48: It’s just 23 degrees when we catch up with Juan Pablo. The wind has been so noisy that he had a hard time sleeping. He cuts up his T-shirt to make ear plugs – and they work!
The wind is making him lethargic, but he pushes through it. His goals for the day are setting up a hanging line to hang his sleeping bag and he wants to make a more comfortable bed. The more hours of sleep he gets, the fewer calories he uses.
Juan’s actually excited for the winter and believes he has the most experience in cold weather of any of his competitors.
Day 50: He considers Day 50 a big milestone and is wearing new wool socks to celebrate. He’s dehydrated and is happy he spent the energy extending his pier. Juan uses his ax to break the ice and scoops up water.
From now on he’ll be more strategic when it comes to figuring out what to burn calories on. He also announces his plan to fast for 20 more days, believing hunkering down is the way to go.
‘Alone’ Season 9 competitor Teimojin (Photo by: Brendan George Ko / The History Channel)
Teimojin, Age 31, Montreal, CAN
Day 48: Teimojin heads to the creek for water and a layer of ice covers the surface. He’s able to break it and retrieve some water.
Teimojin’s used to freezing temperatures and trained in artic warfare in the military. It’s not the cold that will get him; it’s the lack of food. Squirrels are the most active animal right now so that’s what he’s concentrating on.
He admits food cravings are getting painful and he’s lost 44 pounds since Day 1. He spots two squirrels chasing each other and misses with his first shot. Teimojin is forced to rest again; he’s feeling incredibly weak.
Teimojin plans on adjusting his behavior due to the lack of food and calories. That night he decides he’ll take 20 minutes each day to think happy thoughts about his girlfriend. That’ll help him push through.
Snow falls as he goes to sleep.
Day 50: Although he’s tired, he’s decided to make some bird traps. If he can get birds and squirrels, it’ll be a game changer.
Ravens have been attracted to his grouse guts pile, even though he was hoping it would draw in a bear. He hopes he can trap a raven.
Every day is a fight not to press the tap button, and his energy is really low.
Teimojin recalls meeting his girlfriend at the hospital during Covid. He really misses her but is determined to push on. Even if his body’s breaking, his soul will let him press on. Thinking of his girlfriend keeps him grounded, and he calls her his rock.
It takes a while to finish the bird trap, but he thinks the calorie expenditure is worth it.
Day 52: His plan is to set up snares for squirrels in order to take advantage of every food opportunity. He’s divided the area up into sectors and is strategically taking shots at wildlife, given his low energy level.
His new bird trap’s been triggered, but it didn’t catch anything. If he goes another week without catching anything, then that might be it for him. He resets the trap and promises he’ll praise it forever if it catches something.
The Alone experience has been a lot different than he expected. He couldn’t do this if it was just for him; he’s doing it for the people at home. “If you’re in it to really test your boundaries, you might not come back the same,” says Teimojin.
He tosses a few rocks into the river> The ice stops them from hitting the water.

The Plot, Courtesy of Netflix: In the village of Gavaldon, two misfits and best friends, Sophie (Caruso) and Agatha (Wylie), share the unlikeliest of bonds. Sophie, a golden-haired seamstress, dreams of escaping her dreary life to become a princess, while Agatha, with her grim aesthetic and offbeat mother, has the makings of a real witch. One night under a blood red moon, a powerful force sweeps them away to the School for Good and Evil — where the true stories behind every great fairy tale begin.
Yet something is amiss from the start: Sophie is dropped into the School for Evil, run by the glamourous and acid-tongued Lady Lesso (Theron), and Agatha in the School for Good, overseen by the sunny and kind Professor Dovey (Washington). As if navigating classes with the offspring of the Wicked Witch (Parks), Captain Hook (Cave), and King Arthur (Flatters) wasn’t hard enough, according to the Schoolmaster (Fishburne), only true love’s kiss can change the rules and send the girls to their rightful schools and destiny. But when a dark and dangerous figure (Young) with mysterious ties to Sophie reemerges and threatens to destroy the school and the world beyond entirely — the only way to a happy ending is to survive their real life fairytale first.
Oscar-winning director Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) explains that although he’s made many films based on real events, he wanted to be as journalistic as possible in telling the story of the Thai cave rescue in Thirteen Lives. “One of the things that I wanted to convey was that Thai people saved these boys,” says Howard in the new behind-the-scenes featurette.
Cast members, including Viggo Mortensen who plays diver Rick Stanton, also discuss working on the film and their reaction to the actual rescue in the three-minute video. “These kids were 2.3 kilometers inside of the cave, and that’s not even the beginning of it,” says Mortensen. “This event felt like it was an almost impossible situation – a no-win situation.”
“As the world was watching the Thai people represented so much strength and dignity,” adds Colin Farrell.
Thirteen Lives also stars Joel Edgerton, Tom Bateman, Paul Gleeson, Pattrakorn Tungsupakul, Tui Thiraphat Sajakul, James Teeradon Supapunpinyo, Sahajak Boonthanakit, and Weir Sukollawat Kanaros. Ron Howard directed from a screenplay by William Nicholson (story by Nicholson and Don Macpherson).
The PG-13 drama is produced by P.J. van Sandwijk, Gabrielle Tana, Karen Lunder, William M. Connor, Brian Grazer, and Ron Howard. Jon Kuyper, Carolyn Marks Blackwood, Marie Savare, Michael Lesslie, Aaron L. Gilbert, and Jason Cloth executive produce.
MGM will release Thirteen Lives in select theaters the week of July 29, 2022 followed by a launch on Prime Video on August 5.
The Plot: “Thirteen Lives recounts the incredible true story of the tremendous global effort to rescue a Thai soccer team who become trapped in the Tham Luang cave during an unexpected rainstorm. Faced with insurmountable odds, a team of the world’s most skilled and experienced divers – uniquely able to navigate the maze of flooded, narrow cave tunnels – join with Thai forces and more than 10,000 volunteers to attempt a harrowing rescue of the twelve boys and their coach.
With impossibly high stakes and the entire world watching, the group embarks on their most challenging dive yet, showcasing the limitlessness of the human spirit in the process.”
ABC’s live-action/animation-blended Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration has set Grammy Award winner H.E.R. to play its Belle. The Oscar-winning singer/songwriter (“Fight For You” from Judas and the Black Messiah) will be the first Afro Filipina woman to play Belle on screen, and H.E.R. spoke about that honor in the casting announcement.
“I can’t believe I get to be a part of the Beauty and the Beast legacy. The world will see a Black and Filipino Belle!” said H.E.R., who’s also on board as a producer. “I have always wanted to be a Disney princess, and I get to work with two wonderful directors Hamish Hamilton and my favorite, Jon M. Chu. It is very surreal and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
“With her obvious extraordinary talent and stage presence, H.E.R. is the perfect embodiment of our Belle and we are thrilled for audiences to see her in this celebration of creativity,” said director/executive producer Jon M. Chu. “We were both influenced as storytellers by the original animated movie, so it’s very exciting to collaborate together to honor the artistry of that timeless classic while also inspiring a whole new generation of creators.”
The special marks the 30th anniversary of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast‘s groundbreaking Oscar nomination in the Best Picture category. The animated film was nominated in six categories and won two Oscars: Best Original Song (“Beauty and the Beast” by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman) and Best Original Score (Alan Menken). The soundtrack also won multiple Grammys.
Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration will feature new musical performances that will play homage to the animated film. The two-hour special will air on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 8pm ET/PT on ABC.
Production is now underway in London on season three of Netflix’s critically acclaimed drama Bridgerton. The new season’s thrusting Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) – #Polin – into the spotlight and focusing on their love story.
The start of production news was accompanied by a short video of the cast flashing three fingers followed by Coughlan saying, “Bridgerton season three filming has officially begun.” Netflix also announced three new cast members – Daniel Francis (Stay Close), Sam Phillips (The Crown), and James Phoon (Wreck) – have joined the ensemble.
Daniel Francis will play Marcus Anderson, “a charismatic presence who lights up any room he enters, attracting the notice of certain matriarchs in the ton — and the ire of others. Sam Phillips has been cast as Lord Debling, “a genial lord with unusual interests. But with wealth and a noble title to back up his eccentricities, he’ll have no shortage of interest from young ladies this season.”
James Phoon is playing Harry Dankworth. It’s said what Harry “lacks in wit and intelligence, he more than makes up for with serious good looks.”
Showrunner Jess Brownell executive produces with Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica, and Chris Van Dusen.
The Bridgerton Season 3 Plot, Courtesy of Netflix:
Bridgerton is back for its third season and finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.
Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.
Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.
The official trailer for HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, begins with Laenor Velaryon declaring war is afoot. Next, Viserys Targaryen describes a dream he had about the future of the kingdom. “The dream…it was clearer than a memory. And I heard the sound of thundering hooves, splintering shields and ringing swords. And I placed my heir upon the Iron Throne, and all the dragons roared as one.”
The gorgeous new trailer focuses on succession to the throne, with Viserys Targaryen refusing to be made to choose between his brother and his daughter. Dragons fly, sides are taken, and the normal order is challenged.
HBO’s much-anticipated fantasy series set 200 years before Game of Thrones premieres on August 21, 2022. New episodes of the 10-episode season arrive on Sundays.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon was created by Martin and Ryan Condal. Executive producers include Martin, Condal, Miguel Sapochnik, Sara Hess, Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis, and Ron Schmidt. Condal also writes and serves as co-showrunner along with director Sapochnik.
