Season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty is pulling in big viewership numbers, which made Prime Video’s announcement that the coming-of-age drama has been renewed for season three not in the least bit shocking. The official announcement confirmed there will be a 10-episode third season but didn’t reveal any specifics about the upcoming season.

According to the streaming service, season three was actually greenlit before either the writers or actors strikes. Obviously, production will not get underway until the strikes are over.

The series is based on Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy, and Han and Sarah Kucserka will continue as showrunners for the 10-episode third season. Han, Kucserka, Karen Rosenfelt, and wiip’s Hope Hartman, Mads Hansen, and Paul Lee executive produce.

“We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon,” stated Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon and MGM Studios. “This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to.”

Sanders added: “Thank you to Jenny, Sarah Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt and our friends at wiip for their remarkable work and partnership.”

The cast is led by Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno. Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, David Iacono, Elsie Fisher, Jackie Chung, Rachel Blanchard, and Kyra Sedgwick also star.

Prime Video reports season two is one of their most-watched seasons of any series. The current season will wrap up with the finale on August 18, 2023.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season Two Plot:

Belly used to count down the days until she could return to Cousins Beach, but with Conrad and Jeremiah fighting over her heart and the return of Susannah’s cancer, she’s not sure summer will ever be the same. When an unexpected visitor threatens the future of Susannah’s beloved house, Belly has to rally the gang to come together – and to decide once and for all where her heart lies.

Hulu’s released the first batch of photos from Culprits, an upcoming thriller set to stream this fall. The first-look photos tease what Hulu describes as a darkly funny crime series without giving much away.

The eight-episode season was created by J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed), who also serves as an executive producer and director. Disney+ EMEA’s Johanna Devereaux and Stephen Garrett (The Night Manager) executive produce, Claire Oakley (Make Up) directs, and Morenike Williams (Killing Eve) is a producer.

The Plot, Courtesy of Hulu:

Culprits kicks off where most crime stories end: after a high-stakes heist, when the crew of elite criminals have gone their separate ways and have tried to leave their old lives behind. Past and present collide when a ruthless assassin starts targeting them one by one. Why are they being stalked, who is behind the mayhem, and will they be able to find one another in time to protect themselves and the people they love?

Peanuts’ Marcie Gets Her Own ‘Snoopy Presents’ Special

Peppermint Patty’s BFF Marcie will be front and center in the new Apple TV+ Peanuts special Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie. Shy and intelligent, Marcie first appeared in Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts comic strip on July 20, 1971. The upcoming Snoopy Presents production, which just released a trailer and poster, marks the first time the character’s been the focus of an animated special.

The official Peanuts website offers this quote about Marcie from creator Charles M. Schultz: “Marcie is one-up on Peppermint Patty in every way. She sees the truth of things, where it invariably escapes Patty. I like Marcie.”

Emmy Award winner Raymond S. Persi (The Simpsons, Wreck-It-Ralph) directs the family-friendly special from a screenplay by Betsy Walters (The Snoopy Show, Snoopy in Space). Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, Cornelius Uliano, Paige Braddock, Josh Scherba, Stephanie Betts, and Logan McPherson executive produce.

Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie premieres on Apple TV+ on August 18, 2023.

The Plot, Courtesy of Apple TV+

Sometimes the people who make the biggest difference, aren’t the ones who grab the spotlight. In Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie, we get to see first-hand how our lovable introvert, Marcie, makes a monumental difference from behind the scenes both for her friends and her community. To train for the school golf championship, Marcie assists Peppermint Patty as her caddie, offering thoughtful and deliberate advice to help her win.

Meanwhile, after coming up with brilliant solutions to her classmates’ problems – from hallway traffic jams to lunchtime pizza shortages – Marcie is unexpectedly elected as class president…a role she never wanted. Suddenly thrust into the spotlight, Marcie struggles to cope with the expectations of her new job and retreats as far from the public eye as possible.

As the golf championship begins, Marcie is still in hiding and Peppermint Patty is forced to tee off with Charlie Brown filling in as her caddie. But after some wise advice and a little introspection, Marcie realizes she can still make a difference for her friends and the school – she’ll just have to buck other people’s expectations and do it her own unique way.

Review: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem
MIKEY, DONNIE, LEO, and RAPH in PARAMOUNT PICTURES and NICKELODEON MOVIES’ ‘TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM’

The pizza-eating, ninja-fighting, socially awkward teenage turtles are back on the big screen in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, a fresh, new adventure that reboots the popular animated franchise.

The film begins by showing how the attempted arrest and collection of a mad scientist and his experimental mutant pet leads to green experimental ooze seeping down into the sewers of New York. The ooze infects four young turtles and a rat named Splinter (voiced by Jackie Chan), transforming them into nearly human-size mutants who can talk and have intelligence.

Splinter adopts the young turtles and names them Michelangelo (voiced by Shamon Brown Jr.), Donatello (Micah Abbey), Leonardo (voiced by Nicolas Cantu), and Raphael (voiced by Brady Noon). The overprotective adoptive father fears humans and the outside world and keeps his turtles safe in his sewer home. As they grow, he trains them to be able to fight like ninjas to protect themselves by watching old karate tapes and YouTube videos.

It’s not long before the four young turtles are teenagers and yearn for a little adventure and freedom, but mostly to be accepted by humans. The rambunctious foursome always stays out much longer than necessary when going on food and supplies runs, people-watching from afar, or taking in classic 1980s movies at a drive-in just out of sight of humans.

It’s on one of these extended food runs that they meet aspiring teenage journalist April O’Neil (voiced by Ayo Edebiri), who’s investigating the deadly criminal Superfly. Mikey, Donnie, Leo, and Raph quickly get the idea to help April with her investigation and bring down Superfly, hoping it will prove to humans that they’re friendly and cool.

However, shortly into the investigation, the TMNT realize that going up against Superfly and his crime syndicate is not something they’re ready for at all.

Visually dazzling and energetic, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is an innovative, funny, and entertaining reboot of the crime-fighting reptiles series. The film has a terrific cast of actors bringing the characters to life and some solid messages for kids about the importance of family, friends, and the need for acceptance.

Visually, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem looks fantastic, mixing 2D and 3D animation similar to the style used in the Spider-Verse films. It gives the movie a grungy, comic-book feel.

All the voice talents do a great job, but the two standouts are Jackie Chan as Splinter and Ice Cube as Superfly. Chan’s take on the character is more of a loving and out-of-touch father who only wants to keep his children safe from the world of humans. Chan’s scenes are not only filled with plenty of humor but also some touching emotion. Ice Cube is both intimidating and surprisingly likable as Superfly, the big bad who hates all humans and wants the turtles to join his crew. Ice Cube makes the character both cool and deadly at the same time.

With a talented voice cast, stunning animation, and plenty of action and laughs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is one of the most enjoyable animated films this year and is sure to entertain fans both old and new.

The Plot, Courtesy of Netflix:

Cami Conway (Marano) has it all. She’s got the job she wants (recording engineer) and is headed towards engagement, marriage and kids with her wonderful boyfriend, Paul (Foster). And yet. She feels something is missing.

Is it just FOMO and the fear of commitment that goes with it? Or is she actually missing out on an even better career, perhaps the long-abandoned singing career she once dreamed of? And is Paul the love of her life? What if it’s Rex Galier (Jogia), the sexy British rock star, who walks into her studio and becomes irrepressibly smitten? Or could it be Jack Menna (Webber), her first love, “the one that got away”, the idealistic world traveler, who returns home and is ready to rekindle their youthful passion?

Cami faces a kaleidoscope of tempting but tough choices: from serious ethical dilemmas to the frivolous “Truth or Dare.” What she chooses depends wholly on you, the viewer. But be careful! Things don’t always play out like you think!
