‘Bros’ Trailer: Billy Eichner’s Love Letter to the LGBTQ+ Community

Universal Pictures just released a new official (and not safe for work) trailer for Bros, the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men. Bros is also the first major studio release featuring an all LGBTQ+ cast – even in the straight roles.

Co-writer, executive producer, and star Billy Eichner penned a letter describing what Bros means to him. Eichner is the first openly gay man to co-write and star in his own major studio film.

“I wanted to make a movie that was hilarious and relatable to everyone, first and foremost I wanted to make a movie that felt authentic for the LGBTQ folks that the movie is about — and who have been so profoundly underserved by Hollywood over the years, particularly the major movie studios,” stated Eichner. “From the storytelling to the casting to the crew, it was crucial for me that the needs of LGBTQ+ people were being prioritized. And while it’s insane to me that it took this long to get this movie made, it’s still incredibly exciting to me — and a real sign of progress — that the same studio making movies like Jurassic World and The Fast and the Furious is also releasing this R-rated gay rom with an all LGBTQ+ cast, and with as much passion and enthusiasm as they release those other films.”

Forgetting Sarah Marshall‘s Nicholas Stoller co-wrote and directed Bros and also serves as a producer along with Judd Apatow and Joshua Church. The cast includes Luke Macfarlane (Killjoys), Ts Madison (The Ts Madison Experience), Monica Raymund (Chicago Fire), Guillermo Díaz (Scandal), Guy Branum (The Other Two), and Amanda Bearse (Married …with Children).

Bros will open in theaters on September 30, 2022.

Bros Poster

Universal released this very basic synopsis:

This fall, Universal Pictures proudly presents the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy.

From the ferocious comic mind of Billy Eichner and the hitmaking brilliance of filmmakers Nicholas Stoller and Judd Apatow, comes Bros, a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about how hard it is to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.

Five new trailblazing Iron Chefs will welcome brave Challenger Chefs (Mason Hereford, Curtis Duffy, Claudette Zepeda, Esther Choi, Gregory Gourdet, Mei Lin, and Yia Vang) to the reimagined Kitchen Stadium, where they’ll face off and be pushed to the limits of endurance and creativity, as they cook up extraordinary culinary creations.

The competition’s most successful Challenger will return to battle in a grand finale for the chance to be named the first ever “Iron Legend.”

Fire County Series

FIRE COUNTRY (Friday, 9:00-10:00 PM)
FIRE COUNTRY stars Max Thieriot (SEAL TEAM) as Bode Donovan, a young convict seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining an unconventional prison release firefighting program in Northern California, where he and other inmates are partnered with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires across the region. It’s a high-risk, high-reward assignment, and the heat is turned up when Bode is assigned to the program in his rural hometown, where he was once a golden all-American son until his troubles began.

Five years ago, Bode burned down everything in his life, leaving town with a big secret. Now he’s back, with the rap sheet of a criminal and the audacity to believe in a chance for redemption with Cal Fire. Inspired by series star Max Thieriot’s experiences growing up in Northern California fire country.

FIRE COUNTRY stars Max Thieriot as Bode, Billy Burke as Vince, Kevin Alejandro as Manny, Diane Farr as Sharon, Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela, Jordan Calloway as Jake, and Jules Latimer as Eve. Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, Tia Napolitano, Max Thieriot, David Grae (pilot only), Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed are executive producers. Executive Producer James Strong (pilot only) directed from a story co-written by Phelan, Rater and Thieriot, and a teleplay by Phelan and Rater. The series is produced by CBS Studios.

SO HELP ME TODD (Thursday, 9:00-10:00 PM)
SO HELP ME TODD stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin as razor-sharp, meticulous attorney Margaret Wright (Harden) and Todd (Astin), her talented but scruffy, aimless son whom she hires as her law firm’s in-house investigator. As the black sheep of the well-heeled Wright family, Todd is a laid-back, quick-thinking, excellent former private detective who fell on hard times after his flexible interpretation of the law got his license revoked.

Margaret’s penchant for excellence and strict adherence to the law is at complete odds with Todd’s scrappy methods of finding his way through sticky situations: by the seat of his wrinkled pants. When Todd inadvertently teams with his mother on a case, she’s surprised to find herself duly impressed by – and proud of – his crafty ability to sleuth out information with his charm and his wide-ranging tech-savvy. At last, Margaret sees a way to put her son on a “suitable” path to living an adult, financially solvent life she approves of, and she asks him to join her firm. Todd agrees since it means getting his license back and once again doing the job he excels at and loves.

Mother and son working together is a big first step toward mending their fragile, dysfunctional relationship, and they may even come away with a better understanding of each other at this pivotal point in their lives. But whether Todd and Margaret will be able to accept each other for who they are is another case entirely.

SO HELP ME TODD stars Marcia Gay Harden as Margaret, Skylar Astin as Todd, Madeline Wise as Allison, Tristen J. Winger as Lyle, Inga Schlingmann as Susan, and Rosa Arredondo as Francey. Scott Prendergast, Liz Kruger & Craig Shapiro (pilot only), Elizabeth Klaviter, Dr. Phil McGraw, Jay McGraw and Julia Eisenman are executive producers. Executive producer Amy York Rubin (pilot only) directed the pilot from a script by Prendergast. The series is produced by CBS Studios.

EAST NEW YORK (Sunday, 9:00-10:00 PM)
From executive producers of “NYPD Blue,” EAST NEW YORK stars Amanda Warren as Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood, the newly promoted boss of the 74th Precinct, in East New York – a working-class neighborhood on the edge of Brooklyn in the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification. With family ties to the area, Haywood is determined to deploy creative methods to protect her beloved community with the help of her officers and detectives. But first, she has the daunting task of getting them on board, as some are skeptical of her promotion, and others resist the changes she is desperate to make.

Her team includes her mentor, shrewd veteran two-star Chief John Suarez (Emmy Award winner Jimmy Smits); Marvin Sandeford (Tony Award winner and current nominee Ruben Santiago-Hudson), a highly respected training officer and expert on the neighborhood; Tommy Killian (Kevin Rankin), a detective with some old-school approaches to policing; Capt. Stan Yenko (Richard Kind), Haywood’s gregarious and efficient right hand; Crystal Morales (Elizabeth Rodriguez), an intuitive detective who can’t be intimidated; Andre Bentley (Lavel Schley), a trainee from an upper-middle-class background; and ambitious patrol officer Brandy Quinlan (Olivia Luccardi), the sole volunteer to live in a local housing project as part of Haywood’s plan to bridge the gap between police and community.

Regina Haywood has a vision: she and the squad of the 74th Precinct will not only serve their community – they’ll also become part of it.

THE REAL LOVE BOAT (Wednesday, 10:00-11:00 PM)

THE REAL LOVE BOAT brings singles together to travel the Mediterranean on a luxury cruise ship while looking for love. Destination dates, challenges and surprise singles will test the couples’ compatibility and chemistry. Like the beloved original scripted series, the indispensable crew members, including “captain” and “cruise director,” who will be selected from actual Princess crew members, will play pivotal roles in the matchmaking and navigation of the romantic (and sometimes turbulent) waters ahead.

After almost a month at sea, only one winning couple will make it to the final port and take home a cash prize plus a once-in-a-lifetime trip courtesy of Princess Cruises, the series’ exclusive cruise line partner.

THE REAL LOVE BOAT is produced by Eureka Productions in association with Buster Productions. Executive producers are Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin and Wes Dening for Eureka, and Jay Bienstock.

Review: ‘Torn Hearts’ Starring Katey Sagal

Torn Hearts Review Starring Katey Sagal

Director Brea Grant’s Torn Hearts is a twisted tale of ageism, sexism, and the high cost of success. It’s also a satisfying horror film set in the world of Country music featuring terrific performances and a couple of catchy tunes. In other words, you can watch it for the chills and thrills or you can dig deeper. Either way, it’s a real twangy treat.

Jordan (Abby Quinn) and Leigh (Alexxis Lemire) are Torn Hearts, a hungry-for-hits Country music duo who believe they’re on the cusp of getting their big break. They just need that one thing that will set their music apart from the pack. That ‘one thing’ turns out to be convincing a reclusive former Country superstar to come out of retirement and perform with them.

Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) stars as Harper Dutch, the Country artist who might be able to provide Torn Hearts with their first major hit. Harper used to perform with her siblings as The Dutchess Sisters; however, once they hit the ripe old age of 35, their singing careers stalled. Harper’s sister committed suicide and now the surviving Dutchess sister spends her days talking to a ghost and drinking herself into oblivion while self-isolating in her rundown mansion.

Jordan and Leigh don’t actually have much of a plan other than to show up uninvited and charm Harper into making her comeback with Torn Hearts. Oh, and to bring Harper her favorite pie to help seal the deal.

Unfortunately for the wannabe Country stars, Harper’s sister’s the one who loved that particular pie. However, Harper’s willing to overlook that error and even seems amenable to recording a song…if the girls will join her in consuming massive amounts of alcohol.

Note to aspiring artists: never agree to spend the night with a possibly psychotic, easily angered, alcoholic recluse. No amount of record sales is worth it, as Torn Hearts soon learn.

Katey Sagal’s wickedly entertaining performance is the bloody heart and twisted soul of Torn Hearts. Sagal, who has a gorgeous singing voice, plays Harper as an artist resentful over being forced off the stage and treated as a disposable commodity. She’s bitter about being tossed aside and when these two pretty young things show up expecting her to deliver to them the stardom they desire, she finds the perfect target for years of pent-up rage.

Torn Hearts does a terrific job of skewering an industry that chews up and spits out talented women, particularly those who are considered past their prime. That underlying message is why it’s possible to root for Harper despite her increasingly outrageous actions. Of course, there’s a line that’s ultimately crossed – this is a horror film, after all – but until Harper goes there, it’s possible to sort of excuse her behavior. And being able to side with the villain is one of the reasons why Torn Hearts is such a hoot.

Canche’s also present at the Santo Padre meeting as Tranq (Frankie Loyal) reveals there are five dead and four in the ICU. Among the dead is Coco.

There’s a brief moment of silence as they absorb the news and then Gilly (Vincent Vargas) screams, “F**k!” which pretty much sums up what everyone’s thinking.

Canche wonders if El Banquero did it as payback for Randall’s murder but Tranq is on the right track when he suggests it was the Sons of Anarchy. Marcus is confused as to why Charming would go after them now, months after the Mayans hit them in San Bernardino.

Happy’s name is brought up and EZ (JD Pardo) declares, “F**k Happy. And f**k every Son.”

EZ doesn’t trust anyone, including some of those from other charters seated at the table. EZ tosses around accusations and Marcus suggests Canche head back to Yuma and take care of his own charter.

After Canche leaves, Marcus reminds EZ he’s the VP and needs to keep his temper in check. He doesn’t want to start a war, but EZ believes they’re already in one.

Marcus wants everyone to be patient, but that approach isn’t going over well with the guys.

EZ heads back to his trailer in time to see Sofia (Andrea Cortés) getting dressed to leave. They have an awkward morning-after conversation and EZ tells her he’s glad she spent the night. Sofia replies, “Jury’s still out for me.”

In Mexico, Miguel (Danny Pino) digs a grave for young Tomas and then grabs a quick shower. His aunt the nun pays him a visit and tells him it’s time to go. Miguel is hesitant to leave but his aunt explains Martin will be tortured by the LNG and he’ll give up Miguel’s location. She offers him Martin’s clothes and suggests he make plans to move out as soon as possible.

Miguel retrieves his cell phone and makes a call. All he says is, “It’s time.”

Jess (Grace Rizzo) meets with her sister, Jazmine (Zhaleh Vossough), and she’s incredibly upset. She knows Coco’s dead and has realized it happened because of what she told the Sons VP, Terry. She had no idea anyone would die. Jaz reminds her the cut she found in the barrel was from a dead Son and that the Mayans started this war.

Jess wants out but her sister orders her to stay with the Mayans and let SoA know when she sees them getting ready to retaliate.

Angel (Clayton Cardenas) joins Gilly at the bar in the clubhouse and Gilly’s taking Coco’s death harder than the rest of them. Angel thinks someone should check in on Coco’s daughter, Letty, and “what’s her name.” The fact Angel doesn’t know Hope’s name pisses Gilly off, but it’s obvious he’s in no condition to get on his bike.

Angel volunteers to check on Letty and promises Gilly they’ll be there for her.

Tranq informs Marcus the survivors in Oakland recognized the guys who ambushed them as SoA. They didn’t hide their faces but they weren’t wearing their cuts. Marcus asks Tranq to keep this news quiet for now. He wants to figure out what started this before they fight back.

EZ finds Marcus outside working on his bike and Marcus claims not to know who did the hit. He really doesn’t want to go to war and can’t stand the thought of more dead Mayan brothers. He’s making it sound as though he’s going to land on the side of holding back, but EZ is adamant they can’t let this slide.

Marcus takes the blame for Coco’s death since he sent him to Oakland. He promises EZ that blood will be shed, but he hasn’t decided how much of that blood will be Mayans.

Meanwhile, Nails (Justina Adorno) decides to finish painting the baby’s room. She moves a ladder and then a short while later notices a drop of blood in the paint tray. She jumps in the shower and it’s apparent the bleeding has gotten worse.

Nails is in pain as she slowly makes her way to the front door. She looks back and sees a trail of blood droplets while speaking out loud to her unborn child, assuring him everything will be okay.

Fortunately, Felipe (Edward James Olmos) has excellent timing and arrives at Angel’s place as Nails is attempting to open her car door. She believes the baby’s coming and Felipe gently helps her to his truck.

They make it to the hospital and Nails is rushed into surgery. She begs for someone to tell her what’s going on and then, thankfully, is knocked out.

Mayans MC Season 4 Episode 6 Recap

No one answers at Coco’s place and Angel steps in to find it’s been trashed. Letty (Emily Tosta) did not take the news well and took it out on the furniture. He asks about Hope, but Letty doesn’t answer. Angel, who is definitely not the right man for this particular job, takes a seat on the couch and offers Letty some food. She’s amazed he brought her chicken nuggets as if she’s six. He points out he also brought her a cheeseburger.

Angel’s so uncomfortable in this assignment; he has no idea how to comfort Letty or even what to say.

Angel and Letty work on cleaning up the mess and setting the furniture back up. Letty picks up a blanket and holds it as she fully realizes Coco’s never coming back. Angel gives her a hug as she confesses it hurts so bad to know he’s gone for good.

Angel kisses the top of her head and Letty reacts by kissing Angel on the lips. He briefly pulls away but then he lets his penis do the thinking instead of his brain.

Afterward, he’s more awkward than ever when he suggests it’s time for him to go. “You good?” he asks, and Letty doesn’t respond. He then stumbles out a “we’re all here for you” sort of assurance and Letty sighs and then replies, “I’m good, Angel. I’m fine.” (She’s not.)

Felipe calls Angel but it goes straight to voicemail. He leaves a message telling his son to call him.

Nails, awake but tired, asks about her baby. The doctor explains she lost it and Felipe lays a comforting hand on her shoulder as she lies in her hospital bed. The doctor has the baby brought in after Nails indicates she wants to see him. It’s too much for Felipe and he turns away in sorrow.

Nails cradles her baby and says he’s beautiful.

Night’s fallen and EZ’s alone when he receives a call from an unknown number. He’s shocked to hear Emily (Sarah Bolger) on the other end of the line. She’s using a payphone and won’t tell him where she is or how she’s doing. Instead, she only remains on the call long enough to warn EZ he needs to be careful. Without spelling it out, she explains someone found her and asked about the favor he helped her with.

EZ calls the number back but Emily doesn’t pick up. Instead, she pulls up her hood and walks off into the night.

Everyone’s on edge so when EZ hears a motorcycle roaring up he pulls his gun out. Creeper (Joseph Raymond Lucero) and Tranq exit the clubhouse and provide backup, but it turns out the unexpected visitor is Manny (Manny Montana). He’s back because he heard what happened and wants in on killing some Sons. EZ explains Oakland hasn’t confirmed who did the shooting, and Manny breaks the news it was confirmed hours ago.

In Mexico, the nuns gather around the freshly dug grave to bury Tomas. Miguel joins them in prayer and then walks off alone. He goes through the gates and into a waiting car. He receives an envelope with a small amount of cash.

Back at the clubhouse, EZ express his dismay that Marcus didn’t tell them Sons were confirmed as laying down the hit. Manny suspects it’s because Marcus needed time to think but EZ corrects him and says it’s because Marcus is afraid of war.

The old-timers lost the war when it was their turn. Manny and EZ believe it’s their turn now and they don’t plan on losing. Manny thinks EZ should lead them.

Hope (Vanessa Giselle) is crying in bed when Letty quietly enters the room and takes a seat on the edge of the bed. She tells Hope she’s sorry and says she’ll leave tomorrow. Hope gently rubs Letty’s back and says, “Please don’t go.”

Letty lays down and Hope wraps her arms around her. They hold each other tight.

Angel still has no idea what happened to Nails. Instead of going home, he drives back to the clubhouse. The weight of everything going on is just too much for him and he stops in his tracks in the yard. He’s struggling to make it all make sense. He says, “F**k!” and looks confused. Why did he sleep with Letty? Why isn’t he home with Nails? What’s going to happen to his club now that Coco’s been murdered? So much is going on in his head and Clayton Cardenas is absolutely brilliant in allowing us inside Angel’s head without saying anything other than one single expletive.

Angel takes a moment outside the clubhouse door to pull himself together before entering.

Just a quick break in the recap to point out the entire cast has been outstanding this year…not that they ever phoned it in in the previous seasons.

As Felipe drives Nails home, she confesses she believes moving the ladder caused the miscarriage. They make it back to Angel’s place and Felipe volunteers to help her clean up. She claims she can handle it and asks Felipe to take her bag of clothes with him when he leaves.

Emily also makes it back to her temporary home. It’s snowing outside as she checks the window.

Felipe places Nails’ clothes in a trashcan, returns to his truck, and begins sobbing.

Nails lays down in bed, alone. She holds her belly as she rests.

Santo Padre gather at the table and Marcus says the Sons will answer for Coco’s death. However, they can’t afford an all-out war now because the Mayans are too divided.

Marcus is going to check in with Charming to see if he can find out what prompted the attack. (All he needs to do is ask Taza.) When that’s determined, he’ll call for retribution.

The club’s not happy with that decision. EZ disagrees with Marcus and says they will act now. He believes that since Packer’s dying at UC Davis Charming (or whoever okayed the hit) will be keeping vigil there. EZ wants to go there and kill the SoA leadership.

“Cut the head off the snake and it dies,” says EZ.

Manny adds, “Show these mother**kers who we are.”

EZ knows it’s a suicide mission and that’s why he’s volunteering. He also volunteers Angel (he’s always getting pulled into his brother’s plans!) and Gilly. EZ thinks they just need a small team to get it done.

Tranq and Gilly get into an argument over Gilly’s participation. Tranq orders Gilly to stay in Santo Padre and protect the club.

Manny speaks up and volunteers himself. “I didn’t come all the way down here for nothin’. I’d be honored to join you,” says Manny. EZ’s fine with that.

Marcus warns that if it goes wrong, the Mayans will be in a world of hurt. EZ, taking the glass half full approach, reminds him that if it goes right no one will ever attack them again. He adds, “And it will mean we’ve done right by Coco.”

No one at the table speaks for a moment or two and then EZ says, “Let’s go to war.”

Oscar-winner Helen Mirren (The Queen) and Oscar nominee Harrison Ford (the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises) will lead the cast of the second Yellowstone prequel series, 1932 (renamed 1923 on June 20, 2022). And yes, you read that right. And no, it’s not April Fool’s Day joke or some twisted prank perpetrated by Taylor Sheridan. Mirren and Ford are definitely confirmed to star in 1932.

Just let that sink in for a moment…

There’s no official word yet on who Helen Mirren or Harrison Ford are playing. All that’s confirmed is that 1923 will “introduce a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.”

Paramount+ is anticipating a December 2022 premiere.

1923 was created by Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan and is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions. Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and Ben Richardson are executive producing.

The first Yellowstone prequel, 1883 starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, stands as Paramount+’s most-watched title. The series has been greenlit for a second season, however, the streaming service hasn’t announced a targeted premiere date.

‘Spiderhead’ Starring Chris Hemsworth Unveils a Trailer, Poster and Photos

Netflix’s official trailer for Spiderhead finds Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Ragnarok, Extraction) experimenting on prisoners, claiming, “Beautiful people get away with too much. I say that having benefited from time to time.” The lengthy trailer arrived along with an official poster and new photos from the action thriller based on the short story by George Saunders.

In addition to Chris Hemsworth, the cast of what’s described as a “genre-bending and darkly funny psychological thriller” includes Miles Teller (currently killing it in the limited series The Offer), Jurnee Smollett (Lovecraft Country), Mark Paguio (Lonesome), and Tess Haubrich (Treadstone). Top Gun: Maverick‘s helmer Joseph Kosinski directs from a screenplay by Deadpool‘s Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Chris Hemsworth served as a producer along with Reese, Wernick, Eric Newman, Agnes Chu, Geneva Wasserman, Tommy Harper, and Jeremy Steckler.

Spiderhead premieres on Netflix on June 17, 2022.

The Spiderhead Plot, Courtesy of Netflix:

In a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Hemsworth), inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences. There are no bars, no cells, or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too.

But when two subjects, Jeff (Teller) and Lizzy (Smollett), form a connection, their path to redemption takes a twistier turn, as Abnesti’s experiments start to push the limits of free will altogether.
