‘American Horror Stories’ Season 2 Trailer Welcomes Back AHS Fan Favs

FX dropped the official trailer for the upcoming second season of American Horror Stories, a spinoff of the popular, award-winning American Horror Story series. The one-minute trailer teases the return of American Horror Story alumni Denis O’Hare, Cody Fern, Max Greenfield, Nico Greetham, and Gabourey Sidibe as well as the addition of a few new faces including Alicia Silverstone and Bella Thorne.

The seven-episode first season of the horror anthology premiered on July 15, 2021 and kicked off with two dads and their daughter moving into the Murder House. Season two is set to debut on July 21, 2022 on FX on Hulu with a creepy episode titled “The Dollhouse.” And no, I haven’t seen it yet, but come on…anything with dolls is bound to be creepy. Plus, the doll poster for season two is deeply disturbing.

American Horror Story creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk executive produce along with Alexis Martin Woodall, John J. Gray, and Manny Coto. The AHS franchise is a 20th Television production.

The first season split critics and sits at 50% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. IndieWire’s Kristen Lopez described it as feeling like “a group of writers sitting around talking about what they’ve watched and listened to and trying to make a horror story out of it.” However, LA Weekly’s Erin Maxwell believes it captured the spirit of AHS, saying, “If you’re a fan of the series and the deranged universe it inhabits, well, good news! All of those elements remain intact, sans the meandering narratives that seemed to stretch into eternity, and made a lot of us give up on past seasons.”

‘The Silent Twins’ Trailer: Sisters Share a Unique Relationship

Focus Features has released the official trailer for The Silent Twins, based on a fascinating true story. Letitia Wright (Black Panther) and Tamara Lawrance (Invasion) star as the siblings who communicated only with each other.

Author Marjorie Wallace was a journalist when she first heard the story of twins June and Jennifer Gibbons. Wallace pursued the story and met with the girls’ parents, and they allowed her to visit June and Jennifer’s room. There, she discovered the twins’ journals filled with diary entries, short stories, and poems. Marjorie Wallace then spent years visiting the twins after they were convicted of arson and committed to Broadmoor (a high-security psychiatric hospital in England).

“They desperately wanted to be recognized and famous through their writings, to have them published and to have their story told. And I thought that maybe one way of freeing them, liberating them, would be to unlock them from that silence,” explained Wallace in a 2015 interview with NPR.

The film is based on Wallace’s book that chronicles her encounters with the twins and the emergence of their personalities over time.

Agnieszka Smoczyńska directed and Andrea Seigel adapted Wallace’s book for the screen. Leticia Wright, Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska, Joshua Horsfield, Ben Pugh, Ewa Puszczyńska, Anita Gou, and Alicia Van Couvering produced.

Focus Features will release The Silent Twins in theaters on September 16, 2022.

‘Orphan: First Kill’ Trailer: What’s Up with Esther?

Isabelle Fuhrman reprises her role as the psychotic main character from the 2009 film Orphan in the prequel, Orphan: First Kill, which just unveiled a lengthy trailer. The original film starred Fuhrman (then 12 years old) playing a nine-year-old masquerading as the lost daughter of a couple played by Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga. The big twist was that Esther wasn’t actually their daughter and she wasn’t nine; she was in her 30s.

The prequel subs in Rossif Sutherland (Catastrophe) and Julia Stiles (Jason Bourne) for Sarsgaard and Farmiga. However, Fuhrman once again slips into the role of Esther, this time as an adult playing a child playing an adult.

“We didn’t use special effects, we didn’t use any crazy makeup tricks. And I think that’s what makes the movie work, is because you really can’t figure out how I look like a [9-year-old], but I do. And it’s really creepy,” said Fuhrman in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The original film was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise, Black Adam) and William Brent Bell (The Boy, The Boy II) directs the sequel. David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay.

Orphan: First Kill will be released in select theaters, on digital, and on Paramount+ on August 19, 2022.

The Plot: Esther’s terrifying saga continues in this thrilling prequel to the original and shocking horror hit, Orphan. After orchestrating a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility, Esther travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. Yet, an unexpected twist arises that pits her against a mother who will protect her family from the murderous “child” at any cost.

‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Trailer: A Party Game’s Taken Way Too Seriously

A game of pretend murder gets out of hand in the new trailer for Bodies Bodies Bodies. The horror comedy will be released by A24, which immediately confirms it will in fact be weird and twisted.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan breakout Maria Bakalova stars along with Amandla Stenberg, Myha’la Herrold, and Chase Sui Wonders. The cast also includes Rachel Sennott, Lee Pace, and Pete Davidson.

Halina Reijn (Instinct) directs from a screenplay by Sarah DeLappe, based on a story by Kristen Roupenian.

Bodies Bodies Bodies wowed audiences at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival and sits at 96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Jenny Nulf from
Austin Chronicle describes it as “a fun, inverted single location thrill ride” and Paste Magazine’s Aurora Amidon says “it boasts a clever conceit and mostly effective execution, while also offering a refreshing take on the murder mystery.”

Bodies Bodies Bodies opens in limited theaters on August 5, 2022 followed by a wide release on August 12th.

The Plot: When a group of rich 20-somethings plan a hurricane party at a remote family mansion, a party game goes awry in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong.

‘Purple Hearts’ Trailer: Sofia Carson Marries for Convenience

Netflix’s trailer for the romantic drama Purple Hearts seems to give away a lot of the story. The two-minute trailer introduces Sofia Carson (Descendants) as a singer/songwriter whose medical issues keep her from doing what she loves. Enter Nicholas Galitzine as a soldier who offers to marry her just so she can get insurance for the medication she needs. And you know where the story goes from there, right?

Sofia Carson described her character to People, saying, “Cassie and I are very different in a lot of ways, but in others, beautifully similar: Her tenacity. Her love of music. Her fearlessness,” Carson says. “Cassie is a force. And it was my honor to be her, and step into her skin, for a moment in time. I admire her deeply.”

The cast also includes Chosen Jacobs, Kat Cunning, Linden Ashby, Anthony Ippolito, John Harlan Kim, Sarah Rich, and Scott Deckert. Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum directed from a screenplay by Kyle Jarrow and Liz W. Garcia.

Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton produced, with Paul O. Davis, Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, Amy Baer, Sofia Carson, Laura Char Carson, Hugo Grumbar, and Tim Haslam executive producing.

Netflix will release Purple Hearts on July 29, 2022. The soundtrack will also drop on July 29th and will include Sofia Carson’s original song “Come Back Home” featured in the trailer.

The Plot: In spite of their many differences, Cassie (@sofiacarson), a struggling singer-songwriter, and Luke (@nicholasgalitzine), a troubled marine, agree to marry solely for military benefits. But when tragedy strikes, the line between real and pretend begins to blur.

First Look: ‘Great Expectations’ Limited Series Photos

Great Expectations Limited Series

FX and BBC have released the first two photos from the upcoming Great Expectations limited series. Based on the classic novel by Charles Dickens, the limited series adaptation stars Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite) as Miss Havisham and Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) as Pip.

The cast also includes Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ashley Thomas, Johnny Harris, Hayley Squires, Owen McDonnell, Trystan Gravelle, Rudi Dharmalingam, and Matt Berry.

Filming is still underway in London on the six-part limited series.

Oscar nominee and BAFTA Award-winning writer Steven Knight created the series and serves as writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, Dean Baker, David W. Zucker, Kate Crowe, and Tommy Bulfin. The series is produced by FX Productions in association with the BBC, Scott Free, and Hardy Son & Baker.

“Adapting Dickens’ work is a delight. I chose Great Expectations as the next work to bring to the screen not just because of the timeless characters but also because of the very timely story,” said Steven Knight in May 2020 when the series was announced. “A story of class mobility and class intransigence, told through an intensely emotional and personal first-person narrative. As the son of a Blacksmith myself, Pip’s journey from the forge into society is a very special one to me.”

Also in May 2020, FX Entertainment Eric Schrier said, “FX is honored to begin the next chapter of collaboration with Steven Knight, Ridley Scott, Tom Hardy and their teams as they reunite for this modern adaption of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. Their inaugural Dickens adaptation, A Christmas Carol, was a great success both creatively and commercially. We want to thank our partners at the BBC, Scott Free and Hardy Son & Baker for their support and can’t wait to get to work on this project.”

Season one consists of 10 episodes. Apple TV+ didn’t confirm when season two will go into production or if it will also have 10 episodes.

Apple TV+’s official season one synopsis:

“In Loot, billionaire Molly Novak (Rudolph) has a dream life, complete with private jets, a sprawling mansion and a gigayacht – anything her heart desires. But when her husband of 20 years betrays her, she spirals publicly, becoming fuel for tabloid fodder. She’s reaching rock bottom when she learns, to her surprise, that she has a charity foundation run by the no-nonsense Sofia Salinas (Rodriguez), who pleads with Molly to stop generating bad press.

With her devoted assistant Nicholas (Kim Booster) by her side, and with the help of Sofia and team – including mild-mannered accountant Arthur (Faxon) and her optimistic, pop-culture-loving cousin Howard (Funches) – Molly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Giving back to others might be what she needs to get back to herself.”
