Blumhouse and Universal’s Happy Death Day easily topped the box office top 10 list for the October 13-15, 2017 weekend. Blumhouse knows how to put together small budget horror films that score success at the box office, with Happy Death Day ringing up an impressive $26 million off a $5 million-ish budget. The PG-13 horror starring Jessica Rothe had very little competition from last week’s first place finisher, Blade Runner 2049, which saw its business fall off more than 50%.
Next weekend Happy Death Day will be fighting to hang on to first place against newcomers Geostorm, Only the Brave, The Snowman, Only the Brave, Some Kind of Different as Me, and Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween.
Sam and Dean struggled to come to terms with the loss of Castiel, Crowley, and their mom in The CW’s Supernatural season 13’s first episode. They also had to deal with a teenage Jack who was found naked and trying to order a father off a drive-thru window at a fast food restaurant. And, it turns out it’s nearly impossible to hurt Jack, who hasn’t learned to control his powers and believes Castiel is his father. Dean prayed to Chuck to bring Castiel, Mary, and even Crowley back, but Chuck apparently isn’t listening. Castiel remained dead and the brothers believe their mom had been killed by Lucifer. However, it turns out Lucifer was going to kill Mary but decided at the last second to keep her alive because he thinks he needs her.
Up next, Supernatural season 13 episode two directed by Thomas J. Wright from a script by Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner. Titled “The Rising Son,” episode two airs on October 19, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT.
The season 13 cast includes Jensen Ackles as Dean, Jared Padalecki as Sam, Misha Collins as Castiel, Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer, Alexander Calvert as Jack, and Samantha Smith as Mary Winchester.
“The Rising Son” Plot: WHAT EVIL THIS WAY COMES… — Sam (Padalecki) and Dean (Ackles) begin to explore what Jack (Calvert) is capable of doing with his powers. An unexpected visit from Donatello (guest star Keith Szarbajka) alerts the boys to the fact that Jack will need more protection than the Winchesters can provide. There is a new Prince of Hell in town, Asmodeus (guest star Jeffrey Vincent Parise), and with Lucifer (Pellegrino) out of the picture, he sets his sights set on Jack.
The Season 13 Plot: The exciting journey of the Winchester brothers continues as Supernatural enters its thirteenth season. Sam and Dean have encountered every kind of supernatural threat, facing down monsters, demons, and gods. Saving people, hunting things, and keeping the world safe. In the show’s twelfth season, the Winchesters were reunited with their long-dead mother, and joined forces with the British arm of the Men of Letters. But things turned from bad to worse, with the return of Lucifer and the surprising revelation that the Devil is expecting a child. Now, Sam and Dean find themselves facing a creature of almost unimaginable power… one that could save the world… or destroy it.
NBC’s October 14, 2017 Saturday Night Live episode served up a Halloween scare with a twisted take on Warner Bros Pictures’ It. Season 43’s third episode, hosted by Kumail Nanjiani with musical guest Pink, found SNL skewering Trump’s Counselor Kellyanne Conway with two-time Emmy-winner Kate McKinnon transforming into a Kellyanne Conway version of Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Kellywise’s victim in the skit was Anderson Cooper, played by Alex Moffat, who was tempted by Kellyanne’s promise of ridiculous quotes. When that didn’t work, Kellywise morphed into Hillary Clinton and tried to lure Anderson into the sewer with the offer of a copy of her book, What Happened.
SNL season 43 episode three had strong overnight ratings, scoring the best ratings of the current season. Episode four airing on November 4, 2017 will be hosted by Larry David with musical guest Miley Cyrus.

BBC America’s quirky hit series, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, kicks off season two on October 14, 2017 by immediately introducing a new fantasy world called Wendimoor. An evil wizard name The Mage has risen in this land, according to a voice-over.
Men chase each other through a field in Wendimoor and one of them turns out to be a key character in season two, Panto Trost (Christopher Russell). He claims to be fleeing to protect them and then draws his sword to take on the men, easily besting them in battle. Fingers are severed and things aren’t going well for Panto’s attackers when two other men arrive. One turns out to be Panto’s lover, Silas (Lee Majdoub). There’s a misunderstanding that Panto’s family took Silas’ brother, but Silas believes Panto is innocent. As more men approach, Silas sends Panto off to fulfill the prophecy and find Dirk Gently.
And now we catch up with Dirk (Samuel Barnett) who’s been locked up at Blackwing for two months and forced to take part in tests for Project Icarus. A voice tells him to predict the image and Dirk says, dejectedly, he’s not psychic. He gets the tests wrong, getting zapped or slimed when he makes a mistake.
Dirk realizes he’s no longer talking to a machine when the voice starts arguing with him over whether or not he’s psychic. It turns out Hugo Friedkin (Dustin Milligan) is administering the tests of which they’ve now completed 197. Friedkin asks him to try harder, but Dirk just wants to know why they’re finally talking to him. He reveals they did these tests on him as a child with the same results. He tries to explain he’s a holistic detective and cases just come to him. He asks what they’ve done to his friends and Friedkin slips up and says his friends ran away. He tries to make Dirk feel bad by saying they left him alone and aren’t coming for him.
Next, Farah (Jade Eshete) and Todd (Elijah Wood) arrive in Bergsberg, Montana after being on the run for two months. Farah thinks it’s safer in this rural area, and she reminds him Blackwing is still tracking them so he can’t talk to his parents. Todd is sure this time they’ll be able to locate Blackwing and then there will be a holistic connection to Dirk and Amanda. Something will lead them down the right path. He’s also sure Dirk will know how to fix everything.
Meanwhile, Dirk continues to get slimed and shocked for all the wrong answers. He’s positive he’s never getting out of there.
Amanda (Hannah Marks) is also on the run with Vogel (Osric Chau), one of the Rowdy 3. She’s still having visions but can’t figure them out. They’re vague and short – like poetry. She’s sure they must keep going south and knows they’ll find the rest of the Rowdy 3.
Farah and Todd arrive at the meeting spot her brother set up. Farah hopes they can trust him, and she and Todd briefly hold hands.
Farah walks a short distance from the car and meets with her brother at a grounded boat that’s been there since the 1950s. She asks if it’s a trap and her brother can’t believe she’s on a ton of Most Wanted lists, including the one issued by Homeland Security where he works. She swears it’s part of Blackwing’s coverup and he doesn’t believe her since she sent an email about a woman transforming into a dog. Frustrated, she explains it was a soul put into the dog but thinking about it stresses her out.
Todd spots a cop car heading their way and slinks down in the passenger seat.
Farah’s bro is pissed she hacked his account and he tells her he doesn’t care about Dirk Gently. He wants her to turn herself in, handing her a phone she can use to call him when she wants to give herself up. As she’s walking away, he tells her their dad died while she was in hiding.
A cop orders Todd to step out of the car. It’s Sheriff Sherlock Hobbs (Tyler Labine) and he tells the sunglass-wearing-on-a-rainy-day Todd that he looks cool. However, if he parks on the side of the road he’ll have to tow him. Sherlock rambles on about car chases, knitting, and psychoanalysis, and as they’re talking Todd is attacked by bees. He falls to the ground gagging as Sherlock offers to help. No one can see the bees except Todd who’s imagining them flying out of his mouth. Farah rushes to Todd’s side and puts him back in the passenger seat.
As they pull away, Sherlock yells that he’s sorry he handled that so badly. He then notices the pill bottle Todd dropped and says, “Yeah, that was extremely suspicious.”
Suzie Boreton (Amanda Walsh) jolts awake when she hears loud banging noises outside. It turns out her son, Scott, has lit off firecrackers in the car, demanding to know where his tickets are to Sound of Nothing. Suzie explains she spent the money on groceries because he needs to eat better. Scott keeps screaming at her and she grounds him, taking away his phone privileges. He runs to the house and locks the doors and she’s forced to climb a ladder and bang on her bedroom window.
A while later, Suzie drives her husband into town, and Todd watches as she drops him off. Suzie’s driving out of town and passes Bart (Fiona Dourif) on a bike heading into town. Suzie does a double-take (who wouldn’t?) as Bart rides by and then finishes her drive to work.
Suzie’s boss yells at her when he sees her on her phone, telling her the accident was the best thing that happened to her. He demands she get to work and finish up the paperwork.
Farah and Todd check into a hotel and she tells him that was too close. Todd wants to take off, but Farah wants to wait until it’s dark since they’re going to a high-security government facility. Todd thinks she can handle it and when she reminds him she’s not James Bond, he replies, “Aren’t you, though, kind of?”
Farah doesn’t think things are going great since he just had an attack in front of a cop. Farah also admits she feels like screaming and never stopping. Todd comforts her by saying Dirk taught him it all has to be going somewhere. Todd is sure Blackwing is the solution and that’s how they’ll get to Dirk.

Speaking of Blackwing, Friedkin wonders why the place sucks. None of the subjects they’re running tests on can do anything, and Friedkin’s co-worker reveals Blackwing was shut down. When Friedkin points out one particularly uncool, comatose subject, the co-worker suggests they take a look at Project Alpha.
Project Alpha turns out to be Ken (Mpho Koaho) in a cab with an IV and with the Corgi (played by Bentley) in the front passenger seat. Friedkin zaps Ken awake and Ken tells him he has to get him out of there. They’ve kept him locked in the taxi for 70 days, repeatedly asking him if he has a superpower. Friedkin says he’s now in charge and wants to know how Ken’s power works. Again, Ken says he doesn’t have any powers and that he’s a tech guy.
Friedkin wonders then how Ken survived seven days with Project Barzana. Bart kills everyone she comes in contact with but she didn’t try and kill Ken. Then Friedkin asks how the dog works and Ken’s had enough. He starts screaming and so Friedkin zaps him again. Friedkin’s bummed Blackwing used to collect people with abilities but that all fell apart. He started it back up again and can’t find any of the cool guys, like the human bomb, invisible guy, or the shapeshifter. Ken figures out there are other Barts, but Friedkin says they’re all lame or suck, including Dirk Gently.
Ken says they’re all connected to the fabric of reality and they should be out in the world. Friedkin interprets that to mean he has to expose the subjects to each other, and Ken vehemently denies that’s what he said. Friedkin’s latched on to that idea though and leaves Ken and the Corgi in the taxi.
An alert sounds in Blackwing and it’s Todd and Farah looking snazzy, dressed all in black with a slick, lethal-looking weapon. Todd says they have to go and Dirk is stunned they came to rescue him. Todd reveals they’re bad-asses now and they’re breaking him out. Farah adds they used a magic rock from Thor to find him. They tell Dirk they need algae from the Lost City of Gold and Dirk finally realizes he’s dreaming. Farah and Todd now have giraffe and gorilla masks on so, yeah, it’s a dream.
Dirk’s taken to the old dude in a coma’s room which is at least something different from his normal day.
Meanwhile back in Bergsberg, Montana, The Mage (John Hannah) pays a visit to Suzie and calls her a beautiful ray of sunshine. She’s all smiles, happy about the compliments. He asks to speak to her master – the person in charge. She calls for Dan and Dan’s not happy to see The Mage. Dan tells him the men he’s working with are criminals and it’s all too much. He tries to kick The Mage out of his office, but after Dan threatens him with the cops, The Mage stabs him repeatedly in the face with Suzie’s pencil. She watches in horror and then The Mage grasps her hands in his now-bloody ones and asks, “Have you noticed an acceleration of strangeness in your life?”
Farah found a file with an address for Blackwing, and they arrive at the location but it looks like it’s closed down. The cameras are rusted out and it seems no one has been there in years. They squeeze through the fence and race to an old locked-up house. Todd feels something weird about this old spooky house surrounded by government fences in the middle of nowhere. He thinks it’s some kind of “thing.”
He races off to another building and there’s a wet wall. Farah asks what it has to do with Dirk and Todd’s not sure except that he knows this is also a “thing.” It will all start connecting soon.
Dirk talks to the comatose test subject, explaining he had friends on the outside for once. He calls Farah an incredible ninja woman. Oh…and now we learn this comatose dude is Dirk’s old assistant! He breaks the news he replaced him with Todd and of course, there’s no reaction. He then admits there’s a possibility Todd and Farah were killed by the government.
Friedkin’s been listening in outside the room and realizes Dirk’s met the sleeping man before. Dirk says he met this guy when he was small, along with a few other subjects who weren’t too dangerous. Dirk figures out Friedkin’s expecting him to “magic” the man awake, but Dirk tells him it won’t work. “Fate and chance are not mutually exclusive, Mr. Friedkin. If you keep on this path, you’re going to get a healthy dose of both.”
Then, he adds that it’s probably already started and you haven’t noticed. Dirk pounds on the glass and yells that he’s not a machine and this isn’t how it works.
Up next is another new season two character – Deputy Tina Tevetino (Izzie Steele). She arrives at work and Sheriff Hobbs wants to know why she’s late. She confesses she’s sort of drunk but did sleep most of it off already. She slept in her car all day but that’s okay because nothing ever happens in this town. The sheriff flips around his computer screen with photos of Todd, Farah, and Amanda. He says, “Something happened.”
Todd continues to look for a way into the building. He thinks maybe the entrance is invisible, but Farah believes the only way in is to break in. He’s ready to do that but Farah stops him, not wanting to break more laws or set off an alarm. He keeps saying this is connected and then he sees a rabbit. He thinks the rabbit is the answer, maybe, and wonders if Dirk is in the rabbit. Farah thinks he’s going crazy and wants to go back to the car, but instead Todd starts chasing after the fleeing rabbit.
Suzie washes off the blood and freaks out while she’s doing it. Armed men come in and haul her out of the office. She’s panicking and screaming that the man who killed Dan said these men were coming to get the body and everything would be okay. She keeps asking if they’re going to kill her and she’s irritating so they tell her to shut up. The Mage left them with a book and a wand, along with something they’re supposed to say to her. The leader tries the phrase and nothing happens. He keeps trying but then gets frustrated and decides to just kill her.
Just then Bart shows up with a butcher knife and chops off his gun hand. She kills the others and is shot at, but of course, she doesn’t get hit. She asks Suzie if she knows Ken but she doesn’t. Bart decides she won’t kill Suzie, even though it feels like she should. Suzie thanks her and Bart asks if she’s happy about that decision. Suzie is, but Bart’s confused because Suzie’s not smiling. Bart smiles, which looks freaky, and Suzie smiles back at her. Bart asks if Suzie wants to come with her and be best friends, and Suzie just wants to go home. As Bart screams at the universe, telling it she’s her own boss and can kill Suzie if she wants to, Suzie spots the wand on the ground nearby.
Suzie screams and the wand flies into her hand. She recites the phrase and the wand lights up, zapping Bart and sending her away as she screams. Suzie apologizes, grabs a gun, and runs away.
Farah finds Todd in the tall grass far from the house. She’s been looking for Todd for seven hours and she’s done. When he wants to climb a tree at 5am to look for a rabbit, she’s finished with this. Farah says she’s done the best she can, hacking servers, stealing cars, etc, but the “everything is connected” stuff is just not real. Todd reminds her he was fired, his life was ruined, and he’s been beaten. He has a disease that puts him in constant fear but he’s seen incredible things. He thinks it all has to have a point.
Farah thinks what Dirk showed him isn’t nice or helpful. If this thing is real, it doesn’t choose sides. She says he’s not Dirk and even if this leads to Dirk, Dirk won’t be able to cure his Pararibulitis. Todd can’t believe she thinks that’s what it’s about. It’s not. He wants to find Dirk to help her and to help Dirk. He has to find Dirk because it’s the only way back to Amanda. It all has to be real and has to mean something. Plus, it’s the only way to return to a normal life and make things right.
Farah asks if they’re supposed to keep wandering around waiting for something weird to happen. As Dirk answers, “Maybe,” a car falls from the sky and lands with its hood poking into the earth. They’re speechless.
The Mage walks up to the deserted house and through its wrecked front door. He sniffs.
Suzie arrives home with the book and the wand. She enters her bathroom and locks the door behind her as her husband and son sit unaware in the living room.
Amanda and Vogel continue their road trip while Ken marks another day’s passing on the dashboard of the taxi.
Friedkin stares at Dirk from the control room and then leaves the room, leaving behind his Panic Pete squeeze toy. The squeeze toy spins around on his own and falls off the desk. Panic Pete transforms into a rat that runs through the room and turns into a slip of paper that goes under the door and floats up the stairs. It then changes into a tennis ball that bounces down a hallway and through a just-opened door. The ball becomes a man and then a bubble that floats up into the ventilation system where it transforms into a remote car before changing into a moth and exiting the vents. The moth flutters above Dirk and then transforms into a girl with yellow eyes. Dirk doesn’t look surprised and asks what she’s doing there. She tells him, “Find the boy.”
She tosses a glass of water in his face and he disappears.
Fox’s The Exorcist season two episode three begins in France with Cardinal Guilott leading a meeting of the corrupted inside the Church. Something’s sprinkled on almond tarts before they’re brought in and served at this unholy meeting. A cat climbs onto Cardinal Guilott’s lap and he explains that, like the cat, they’ve climbed high and will soon be able to look down on the world and then remake it.
The men, including the Cardinal, bite into the tarts and begin spitting up blood. As they sit at the table, dying, the servant lights the tablecloth on fire and leaves with the cat. “All nature will be renewed by fire,” she says as she climbs the stairs.
Meanwhile on Nachburn Island, Washington, Andy (John Cho) buries the dead lamb. As he does, he hears a noise in the woods.
Inside his home, Andy confronts Caleb (Hunter Dillon), saying he doesn’t believe Verity (Brianna Hildebrand) left him at the well. Andy wonders if maybe Caleb was just sleepwalking, but Caleb swears she held his hand as she walked him to the well. However, even Caleb’s not sure Verity would do something that dangerous.
Andy then apologizes to Verity for initially believing she tried to murder her foster brother. After Verity slams her door in his face, Andy next has to deal with Shelby (Alex Barima) who warns him to keep everyone out of the woods. He swears there’s something out there, but Andy tries to calm him down by saying the deformed lamb wasn’t an omen. Shelby says he felt something and was just trying to protect the house by smearing blood on the front door. Andy suggests he stick to praying.
Rose (Li Jun Li) catches Andy’s attention next, informing him she’s not filing a report on Caleb. She knows the agency would investigate if she did, but then she reminds him group homes have to be run by two people. He suggests she move in.
Apparently, Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) isn’t finished seeing Cindy. He dreams of a young girl with a hole where her face should be and then sees Cindy in her possessed form. Jerking awake in the truck, he learns from Marcus (Ben Daniels) that they’ve made it to their destination. The street they’re parked on is the one from his vision of the faceless girl.
The traveling exorcists have arrived at their next case in Seattle, Washington. Marcus was asked by one of his deacon friends to help a young girl who might be possessed. The girl’s mother, Lorraine Graham (Rochelle Greenwood), invites them in, happy to see at least one of the two men is a priest. The possibly possessed girl’s name is Harper and her mom can’t believe someone at the Church finally listened to her plea for help.
Lorraine explains Harper was a healthy girl until six months ago. Her personality changed and she began seeing the imaginary playmate she had as a child.
Harper (Beatrice Kitsos) is groaning in her bed when Marcus and Father Tomas visit her room.
Back at the group home, the kids are all walking to school with Caleb quizzing Truck (Cyrus Arnold) on his upcoming history test. Shelby lags behind them and then sneaks off as they continue walking to school.
Marcus and Tomas return downstairs to talk with Harper’s mom, and she thinks something unclean took over Harper. She wants them to send it back to Hell, and Marcus lets her know they have to investigate first before they can do the exorcism. She asks what they’re looking for and Marcus explains it includes such things as speaking in tongues, having impossible knowledge of events, etc. Lorraine gives them a drawing Harper drew three weeks ago, and it looks like Marcus and Tomas taking on a demon. As they speak, noises are heard upstairs. A cross falls from the wall and Lorraine is sure the demon knew they were coming.
Lorraine admits she’s read Chris MacNeil’s story about Regan’s possession many times and it gives her comfort. She knows she’s not going through this alone.
Back in Harper’s room, the girl is momentarily lucid and takes a drink from a container her mother offers her. She looks uncomfortable when Marcus and Tomas introduce themselves and say they can help her. Harper doesn’t believe they can help and Tomas claims they’re pretty good. Marcus asks about her imaginary friend and Harper says its name is Tobias. No one can see him, so Marcus asks her to describe him. He holds up the drawing and asks if the green demon is Tobias. She says it is. Tomas wonders if she can make Tobias come out and say hi, but she says he’s hiding behind her tongue. When he’s mad, his teeth come out.
Marcus looks in her mouth and doesn’t see anything. Harper suddenly begins convulsing and throws up green liquid on Tomas. Tomas and Marcus try and get the demon to say its name, but Harper only thrashes and screams.
Father Bennett (Kurt Egyiawan), in civilian clothes, sits through a church service. Mouse (the killer from the opening sequence) takes a seat in the empty pew behind him. He’s been coming there for three days but has never taken communion. She forces him to, even though he claims he didn’t before because he doesn’t feel worthy. It’s a test and he passes.
They discuss Cardinal Caro and his arrest, and then Mouse (Zuleikha Robinson) reveals Cardinal Guilott has been taken care of. Father Bennett believes they’re meant to fight this war together, but Mouse thinks she’d be better off alone. She will, however, tell Father Bennett what she knows about the conspiracy and let him meet her source.
Back in Harper’s room, Tomas wants to start the exorcism immediately but Marcus knows they haven’t established one is needed. Her mom is incredulous, but Marcus explains doing an exorcism when one isn’t needed could reinforce a false belief that Harper would never be able to let go. Lorraine tries to work them against each other, asking if Father Tomas isn’t better suited to decide this.
Lorraine returns to Harper’s bedside and screams. While they speak, Harper’s in bed gnashing her teeth together. Her mom has what she claims is a bite mark on her stomach and she’s bleeding.
Elsewhere, Shelby’s alone and holds up his Bible when he hears noises in the woods.
Andy pays a visit to his neighbors, asking Russ about the lamb. He reveals he had planned to be a wealthy stockbroker but in college, he met a girl who made him change his mind. He’d be a practicing psychologist now if it weren’t for the group home. Andy asks Russ if he’s ever come across anything on the island he can’t explain, but Russ has no idea what he’s talking about.
Shelby kneels on the sand at the edge of the lake and prays.
And now the group home and exorcism storylines finally cross. Rose shows up at Lorraine Graham’s door, following up on a call made to the State Department of Health and Social Services about her daughter’s behavior at school. Rose knows she hasn’t attended in weeks, and Lorraine says it’s because she’s fighting a very bad flu. Rose asks to speak with Harper but Lorraine tries to put her off. When she tries to close the door on Rose, Rose threatens to get law enforcement involved if she doesn’t let her see Harper immediately. Still, Lorraine closes the door and leaves Rose standing on the porch.
Father Tomas sets out Holy Water and is prepared to perform the exorcism when Marcus returns to Harper’s room. Tomas claims he has all the proof he needs but Marcus doesn’t think so. Tomas then reveals his vision of Harper, and Marcus reminds him he let a demon into his head and his decisions are compromised. Tomas is insistent Harper needs his help.
They spot Rose on the sidewalk and Marcus leaves to speak with her. She wants to know why there’s a priest with Harper, and he says it’s for spiritual help. As Rose is about to leave, she mentions Harper’s been in and out of hospitals all her life. That shocks Marcus.
When Andy returns home from his visit with Russ, Grace (Amélie Eve) is wearing her brave face (the weird pillow case head covering). She had agreed to come outside but is reluctant to leave the house. She finally does, and Andy removes her brave face. They high five because she made it outside. He takes her to see the sunflowers in the garden and she laughs and smiles. The mood changes when they see a massive flock of birds in the sky.
Shelby is still praying when the flock flies over him and across the lake.
Andy and Grace rush back into the house as the birds begin crashing into the outside of the home. Some smash through windows and Grace is understandably freaked out.
Marcus goes through the bathroom drawers and finds a box full of pills.
Andy comforts Grace, confused as to why the birds behaved that way. She doesn’t want to go outside again. The doorbell rings and it’s Russ. They look out over the yard at hundreds of dead birds. Russ says they flew over his house and came from the lake, around the spot where Nicole… He doesn’t finish that sentence and Andy rushes off to the lake, with Russ left to babysit Grace.
Andy finds Shelby in the lake and screams at him to get out now. Shelby’s asking God for help because right on that spot is where whatever is wrong with the island is the strongest. Shelby’s at the spot where it killed Nicole, and Andy says Nicole killed herself because she was depressed. Shelby wonders if maybe Andy was wrong and it’s possible it’s the same thing that tried to kill Caleb. Andy’s furious and won’t go along with Shelby on this, saying that’s not what happened to his wife.
Marcus rushes into Harper’s bedroom and yanks Lorraine back from her daughter’s bed where she’s once again giving her something to drink. Marcus holds Harper’s head and tells her she’s clean, a pure child of God. He also says there’s nothing wrong with her.
Marcus confronts Lorraine, telling her he knows Harper’s been in and out of hospitals all her life. He also knows the drink contains hallucinogens that give Harper visions. He lists off the drugs in the drink, including one that induces vomiting. Marcus is right in Lorraine’s face when he accuses her of repeatedly telling her own daughter stories about a toad inside her, trying to convince Harper she’s possessed.
Marcus explains to Father Tomas that Lorraine did the drawing herself and that she also used her own fingernails to create the bite mark on her stomach. “You weren’t reading Chris MacNeil’s book for comfort, you were using it as a bloody instruction manual!” yells a furious Marcus.
Lorraine tells them to leave but they refuse. Father Tomas follows her downstairs while Marcus stays with Harper. Father Tomas is looking through the box full of pill bottles when Lorraine hits him in the head with a hammer.
Marcus tells Harper she’s safe and says her mother’s the sick one. Marcus comforts her and tells her it will hurt for a while, but one day she’ll get better and be stronger than ever before. Lorraine returns to Harper’s room with the hammer, demanding Marcus get away from her daughter. She doesn’t get why no one understands what she’s going through, and Marcus advises Harper to close her eyes and keep them shut no matter what she hears.
Lorraine charges at Marcus, but he tosses her against a mirror. She hits him with a hammer but he’s able to pin her to the ground. Father Tomas, bleeding from the head, stumbles into the room.
Rose followed through on her threat and cops arrive at the Graham house.
At the hospital, Marcus assures Father Tomas that if he does this long enough he’ll see all different forms of evil, and then someone like this will come along. “At least with a demon you know where you stand. There’s a purity to the design, the logic, and form,” says Marcus. “But a parent who would do that to their own child…”
Father Tomas admits he was wrong. He knows he made a mistake and it would have been horrible for Harper if they moved forward with the exorcism. Harper would have died, and Marcus agrees that was the most likely outcome. Father Tomas wisely admits he’s not ready to do this on his own.
Rose joins them in the hospital waiting room and tells them Harper will recover. Harper will eventually be placed in a foster home while they build a case against her mother, but finding a home won’t happen fast. That gives Rose the idea that maybe she should go live at Andy’s group home temporarily. She’d be safe there.
Andy watches a video of the kids with Nicole.
Antwerp, Belgium: Mouse takes Father Bennett to see Sister Dolores (Karin Konoval), an exorcist who’s been missing. Bennett thought she was dead but Mouse knows they’re not killing exorcists. “They’re doing something much worse,” says Mouse.
Sister Dolores is standing in chains in the middle of a room, possessed.
The CW’s Arrow season six episode one answered the big question left hanging in the season five finale: who died during the explosion on the island? Season six episode one revealed Samantha (Anna Hopkins) didn’t survive the blast, which makes sense story-wise as it was already revealed Oliver’s going to be more involved in raising his son, William. For now, the entire Team Arrow survived, however Thea’s in a coma and Diggle’s in bad shape psychologically. But, the big reveal of the season six opener came in the episode’s final moments. A breaking news report showed a photo of Oliver in the Green Arrow suit without a mask.
Season six episode two is titled “Tribute” and will air October 19, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT. Laura Belsey directed from a script by Marc Guggenheim and Beth Schwartz. The cast of season six includes Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Arrow, David Ramsey as John Diggle/Spartan, Willa Holland as Thea Queen/Speedy, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, Echo Kellum as Curtis Holt/Mr. Terrific, Katie Cassidy as Black Siren, Jack Moore as William Clayton, and Rick Gonzalez as Rene Ramirez/Wild Dog.
