‘Outlander’ Unveils a New Season 6 Trailer and Official Poster

The release of the official trailer and poster for Outlander season six means the end of Droughtlander is in sight! The nearly two and a half minute trailer opens with a romantic scene between Claire and Jamie before giving way to battlefield scenes.

“I canna be two things at once, Claire…a rebel, a loyalist. An agent for the Crown and an enemy of the king,” declares Jamie (Sam Heughan) as the world around him falls into chaos.

The trailer ends with Claire, upset and anxious to assure Jamie of her love. “I don’t belong here. Brianna, Roger…they don’t belong here. But yet here we are – all of us – because I loved you more than the life that I had,” says Claire (Caitriona Balfe). “And this, I promise you, won’t come between us.”

During the 2021 New York Comic-Con panel, Sam Heughan hinted at what life on Fraser’s Ridge will be like in the upcoming season. “I think Jamie and Claire have spent a lot of time building this community and I think this is the season where we see that really disintegrate. Jamie…he went to save Claire but I think obviously she hasn’t gotten over that trauma. I think Jamie’s very aware of it; he’s keeping an eye on her. I think these cracks are really starting to show, not only for Jamie and Claire but for the rest of the inhabitants of Fraser’s Ridge.

The war is coming…it always seems to be coming…but it is coming and we’re very aware. Jamie’s really having to tread a fine line between his loyalties. He knows he’s on the wrong side, the British, and at some point, he’s going to have to switch sides. But it’s even harder this season for him because he’s being pulled in both directions,” said Heughan.

Outlander‘s 12 episode sixth season, which is based on Diana Gabaldon’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes, will premiere on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on Starz.

The Plot, Courtesy of Starz:

The sixth season of Outlander sees a continuation of Claire and Jamie’s fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America. Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task, particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina – and perhaps most significantly – during a period of dramatic political upheaval. The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which – as Claire knows all too well – is unwittingly marching towards Revolution.

Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser’s Ridge. They must now defend this home – established on land granted to them by the Crown – not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care. For the Frasers and their immediate family, “home” is more than simply a site in which they live, it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives.

If Season 4 asked “What is home?” and Season 5 asked, “What are you willing to do to protect your home?” then Season 6 explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you’ve created: when you become an outsider, or an ‘outlander,’ so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home.

‘The Resident’ Season 5 Episode 11 Photos: Preview of “Her Heart”

Fox’s The Resident is taking a bit longer with its winter break than originally planned, with season five episode 11 now set to air on February 1, 2022 rather than January 25th. Episode 11 is titled “Her Heart” and finds Nic’s heart recipient back at the ER.

New season five episodes air on Tuesdays at 8pm ET/PT.

Season five stars Matt Czuchry as Dr. Conrad Hawkins, Malcolm-Jamal Warner as Dr. AJ Austin, Bruce Greenwood as Dr. Randolph Bell, Jane Leeves as Dr. Kit Voss, and Manish Dayal is Dr. Devon Pravesh. Jessica Lucas plays Dr. Billie Sutton, Anuja Joshi is Dr. Leela Devi, and Miles Fowler is Trevor.

“Her Heart” Plot: A case turns personal for Conrad when the donor recipient of Nic’s heart is admitted to the ER. Bell is faced with a devastating diagnosis that causes him to make a heartbreaking decision. Meanwhile, the Raptor asks Devon to include his ailing mother in his clinical trial, causing Devon to face a major dilemma.

The Season 5 Plot, Courtesy of Fox:

Entering its fifth season, The Resident continues to shine a light on the daily heroism of our health care workers. The provocative medical drama follows the doctors and nurses at Chastain Memorial Hospital as they face personal and professional challenges and fight for their patients’ health.

Season four saw a multitude of highs and lows as the heroes at Chastain struggled to overcome the impossible, including the unprecedented and devastating Covid-19 pandemic. Now, in a propulsive and emotional season five, the ante is upped, as the doctors continue to save patients and fight corruption in the healthcare system, this time with a partner. The alliance with Big Pharma that found a cure for sickle cell disease last season proves in season five to be a very sharp double-edged sword.

The season kicks off when a mysterious ransomware attack threatens the hospital, and DR. DEVON PRAVESH (Dayal) and Chastain’s recently appointed CEO, DR. KIT VOSS (Leeves), must make high-stakes, split-second decisions with lives in the balance. Meanwhile, DR. CONRAD HAWKINS (Czuchry) and NURSE PRACTITIONER NICOLETTE NEVIN’s (Emily VanCamp) attempts to navigate parenthood, marriage and work-life balance take a shocking turn when Conrad is forced to make a life-changing choice that will alter the course of their family forever.

After the unwanted arrival of DR. BILLIE SUTTON’s (Lucas) biological son, she is forced to confront her past head-on in hopes of healing. Luckily, she’ll have help with the emergence of a new friendship – and rivalry – with DR. AJ AUSTIN (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), who unknowingly takes an interest in Billie’s son, TREVOR (Fowler). Elsewhere, a wrench is thrown in the plans of DR. LEELA DEVI (Joshi), when an unannounced visitor threatens her new relationship, and DR. RANDOLPH BELL (Greenwood) moves forward with a surprising love interest.

A new wrinkle five episodes into the season will challenge audience expectations and reveal new truths about our characters. Old relationships will be tested, new ones formed, and the emergence of a widespread Medicare fraud scheme ensures Chastain will never be the same.

Grammy Awards Move to a New 2022 Date in Response to Omicron

The 2022 Grammy Awards
THE 64th ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS logo (Photo: 2021 CBS Broadcasting, Inc)

The Recording Academy has settled on a new date and location for the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. The Grammys were originally set to take place on January 31, 2022 in Los Angeles, CA, however it was announced earlier this month that “after careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners” the Recording Academy and CBS opted to postpone the awards show.

To quote their initial announcement, the move was to help ensure the “health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show.”

Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and the Omicron variant, The Recording Academy and CBS have rescheduled the Grammys to April 3, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The Grammy Awards will air live on the CBS Television Network on Sunday, April 3rd beginning at 8pm ET/5pm PT.

Trevor Noah, host of Comedy Central’s Emmy Award-winning The Daily Show, is still on board to return as host for the second time.

The CMT Awards will be moved from its original scheduled date of April 3rd to accommodate the Grammy Awards shift. There’s no word yet on the new date other than it will be sometime later in April.

“Once we realized the need to move the Grammy Awards to a later date due to current health concerns, we came together quickly with our partners at the Recording Academy and CMT, to strategically reschedule these two incredible music events and utilize the full power of the ViacomCBS ecosystem to promote them,” stated Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music, Live Events & Alternative Programming, CBS. “Coming out of an exciting month of college basketball on CBS, we’re thrilled to continue our programming momentum with these two big live events for television in the spring.”

Additional dates and locations for other official Grammy week events will be announced soon.

Nominees for the 2022 Grammy Awards were announced on November 23, 2021. CBS and The Recording Academy haven’t revealed who’ll be taking the stage for the 2022 awards show other than host Trevor Noah. The Recording Academy previously announced the lineup for MusiCares Annual Gala Benefit Concert, but they haven’t confirmed if that lineup will remain the same following the schedule change.

Daniel Radcliffe to Star in a Weird Al Yankovic Biopic

Daniel Radcliffe and Weird Al
Daniel Radcliffe to star as Weird Al Yankovic in a Roku Channel original film (Photos Courtesy of Roku)

There’s a Weird Al Yankovic biopic in the works and it has Daniel Radcliffe (the Harry Potter franchise) on board to star. Let that sink in a minute…Daniel Radcliffe as a five-time Grammy Award winner. Yankovic wrote WEIRD: The Weird Al Yankovic Story with Eric Appel and is all-in on the casting choice.

“When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule,” said Yankovic. “And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

Filming is expected to begin in February 2022 with Appel directing and executive producing. The biopic will air exclusively on The Roku Channel.

“When Weird Al first sat me down against my will and told me his life story, I didn’t believe any of it, but I knew that we had to make a movie about it,” said Appel.

The Funny Or Die and Tango production has Yankovic producing along with Funny Or Die’s Mike Farah, Joe Farrell, and Whitney Hodack. Tango’s Tim Headington, Lia Buman, and Max Silva also produce. Funny Or Die’s Henry Muñoz III and Tango’s Neil Shah are on board as executive producers.

“There clearly aren’t enough biopic movies about famous musicians and we were excited to shine a light on the incredibly true, unexaggerated story of Weird Al,” said Colin Davis, Roku’s Head of Original Scripted Programming. “This is sincerely the ultimate combination of talent, creativity, and friends, coming together to make something genuinely funny and we could not be prouder to call this film a Roku Original.”

“I am excited that my first project as the owner of Funny Or Die Studios is to help bring the story of ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic to the screen. Weird Al is a comic genius and his impact on pop culture, his mastery of the music video, his award-winning music and his incredible life are a perfect fit for the talented producers at FOD,” stated Henry Muñoz III, Funny Or Die Chairman and executive producer. “We are honored to partner with Roku, Tango and our director Eric Appel on this important movie. WEIRD has brought together a weird and wonderful team of creative people, to tell the story of a man who has made people laugh and sing across the world.”

The Roku Channel released the following description of WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story:

“The Roku Original film will star Daniel Radcliffe in the titular role of ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic. The biopic holds nothing back, exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like ‘Eat It’ and ‘Like a Surgeon’ to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle. WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story takes audiences on a truly unbelievable journey through Yankovic’s life and career, from gifted child prodigy to the greatest musical legend of all time.”

  • CAROLINE HENDERSON is JARL HAAKON
A great warrior and tolerant leader, Haakon rules Kattegat with a steady hand. Though Pagan, she has managed to keep Kattegat a city open to all faiths in a challenging time. She will become a powerful mentor to Freydis, who is drawn to her wisdom.

Select recurring characters include:

  • POLLYANNA McINTOSH as QUEEN ÆLFGIFU
Calculating and ambitious, Queen Ælfgifu of Denmark has a hand to play in the political power struggles unfolding in Northern Europe. ‘Single Drunk Female’ Cast and Producers on the Comedy, the Characters, and AA

Single Drunk Female
Freeform’s ‘Single Drunk Female’ stars Ally Sheedy as Carol Fink and Sofia Black-D’Elia as Samantha Fink. (Freeform/Koury Angelo)

Executive producer Simone Finch (The Conners) drew on her personal battle with alcoholism when creating the new comedy Single Drunk Female, debuting on Freeform on January 20, 2022. The half-hour comedy follows Samantha (Sofia Black-D’Elia), a 20-something with a drinking problem and a life that’s falling apart. Samantha’s just lost her job at a New York media company as the series kicks off, and that’s just the beginning of her problems. She’s forced to move back in with her mom (Ally Sheedy) and her new job at a grocery store is definitely not as glamourous as writing quizzes for a popular media outlet.

During Freeform’s 2022 virtual Television Critics Association (TCA) panel, creator/executive producer Finch said she began writing Single Drunk Female in 2012 before she got sober. “And then I got sober, and then I realized it was about a girl getting sober,” explained Finch. “So, I feel like this is a…I call it a kind of a living script. It sort of evolved as I got more sober, and that’s really how it started.”

Cast members Sofia Black-D’Elia and Ally Sheedy also took part in the virtual panel along with executive producer Jenni Konner and executive producer Daisy Gardner.

Black-D’Elia recently starred in the comedy series The Mick opposite Kaitlin Olson who played her character’s out of control, hard-partying aunt. Asked if she picked up any tips from Olson about playing drunk, Black-D’Elia replied, “I am not the smartest person in the world, but I am smart enough to know that there is only one Kaitlin Olson and trying to do anything that she does is a losing battle.”

Discussing how she approached her character, Black-D’Elia said, “I just played the truth and honesty in all of it. And sometimes it felt really sad and dark, and sometimes it felt really funny and weird and bizarre. I think that’s because Simone really grounded this story in her own experiences and in truth. So, yeah, I don’t know that I was really going for, like, the funny version of sobriety or anything like that. I just wanted it to feel real.”

The dysfunctional relationship between Samantha and her mother is exacerbated when she loses her New York apartment and has to return to her mom’s house while attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and working on getting sober. Black-D’Elia said she loves the relationship between Sam and her mom and enjoys working with Ally Sheedy.

“To me, [their relationship] is the heart of the series. It’s complicated and funny and weird and nuanced in a way that I think any girl with a mother can understand and relate to,” said Black-D’Elia. “It’s really fun doing it with Ally.”

“It’s very fluid and messy, which is what I love. I love Sofia. So, going to work every day was an absolute joy, and this was an easy relationship for us to mess around with,” said Sheedy. “I just like that it’s messy and that Sam is going to come back and live in the house with me, but I don’t want this AA on me. Do you know what I mean? I don’t want it to be I can’t have wine in the house – I can’t drink my wine. She’s not going to come change my life and my habits. That’s where my head is with that.”

Ally Sheedy says how Carol handles Samantha’s problems and the dynamic of having her daughter move back in is interesting to play. “I think, if a family member or anybody that you are really close to makes an enormous change in their life, it’s going to affect you, right? So, as Carol, I don’t know that I trust any of this. She’s come back. She’s a disaster. I just got my house back to myself. I don’t want to take care of anybody anymore. Here she is, and the whole thing is, yeah, I think it does put me back on my heels, and everything about her does make me have to look at myself. But the fun thing about playing with Carol is I also fight against that. It bothers me that that process is part of the process. I didn’t ask for it. So, there’s, an inner kind of conflict going on with that,” explained Sheedy.

Although Single Drunk Female is a comedy, Black-D’Elia said that as the season goes on, Samantha will take her AA meetings and journey toward sobriety more seriously.

“I think she tries to, especially as the series goes on and she starts to rebuild her life and it starts working for her. I think Sam is the kind of person that probably has a hard time taking a lot of things seriously. So, I think that in and of itself is a huge side of growth for her. But within the AA world, there’s also a lot of comedy, mostly just because our cast is really funny, I think,” said Black-D’Elia.

And speaking of taking things seriously, executive producer Daisy Gardner said they strive to be respectful of AA and alcoholism. “I would say, first and foremost, we are trying to tell the story of one amazing character through the lens and the voice that Simone gave us, and everything comes from a real experience and comes from that authenticity. We have checks in place. Every script goes through an alcohol consultant, a sobriety consultant, and we have discussions about it,” revealed Gardner.

Gardner continued: “And [Simone] had the gratitude and the responsibility that people feel towards a program that helps them. We are incredibly respectful. There’s a center to it and everything else can be funny, but we want to respect sobriety.”

The sobriety consultant provided input into specific topics, including dating and romance while battling alcoholism.

“There’s nothing written about the first year not dating. It’s kind of an unwritten rule, and a lot of people take it really seriously. And so, there was some back and forth about that,” explained Finch, crediting AA with saving her life and calling it the most important thing she’s ever done.

“A lot of times people recommend that you are sober for a year and a day before you launch into things, and so that became a thing that we examined in the show,” added Gardner.
