‘Love Death + Robots Volume II’ Debuts a Trailer and Season 2 Poster

The upcoming second season of Love Death + Robots will consist of eight animated shorts and will arrive on May 14, 2021. Today, Netflix debuted a trailer for Volume II in which we get a brief look at the new episodes and the anthology series’ fantastic world inhabited by robots.

The Emmy-winning adult animated anthology series was created by Tim Miller (Deadpool). Miller recalled the critical response to season one after finally being able to bring his dream project to life on Netflix. “We couldn’t have been happier at the response to the show,” said Miller. “It was exactly the kind of passionate reception from animation fans David (Fincher) and I hoped for, but for many long years had been told wouldn’t happen.”

Oscar nominee Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2) joined the series for season two as supervising director. Describing the process of selecting directors for the individual shorts, Yuh Nelson said, “It’s a tonal and stylistic Jenga game, trying to figure out which director might best handle what story.”

In addition to unveiling a trailer and poster for Love Death + Robots Volume II, Netflix confirmed Love Death + Robots Volume III is expected to premiere in 2022 and will also consist of eight new episodes.

‘Downton Abbey 2’ Heading to Theaters This Christmas

Downton Abbey 2

We’re not quite done with checking in on the lives of the occupants of Downton Abbey. Focus Features confirmed today that Downtown Abbey 2 will reunite the original main cast of the series for a second feature film.

Production has just begun and Focus Features is targeting a December 22, 2021 premiere.

“After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be reunited with the much-beloved characters of Downton Abbey,” said Gareth Neame, the film’s producer and executive chairman of Carnival Films.

Downton Abbey series creator Julian Fellowes (Best Original Screenplay Oscar winner, Gosford Park) wrote the screenplay and will produce with Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge. BAFTA nominee Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) is on board to direct.

“There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans,” stated Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski.

Downton Abbey starred Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Robert James-Collier, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Harry Hadden-Paton, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol, Penelope Wilton, and two-time Academy-Award winner Maggie Smith (California Suite, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie).

Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West join the cast for Downton Abbey 2.

A Look Back at the First Downton Abbey Film’s Description:

The television series followed the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who worked for them at the turn of the 20th century in an Edwardian English country house. The initial film followed a Royal Visit to the Crawley family and Downton staff from the King and Queen of England and ended with a ball fitting for the Royal Family.

‘MacGyver’ Season 5 Episode 15 Photos: Series Finale Preview

Barring a last-minute miracle, CBS’s MacGyver will end its five season run with episode 15, “Abduction + Memory + Time + Fireworks + Dispersal.” Passionate fans of the drama have been busy on social media attempting to get CBS or another network/streaming outlet to resurrect MacGyver for season six. MacGyver fans have even launched a petition on Change.org which, as I’m typing this, has over 16,000 signatures. They’re also running an #OperationPaperclips campaign urging the series’ supporters to mail paperclips to CBS’s president of entertainment. (For updates, check out @thenerdyeditor1’s feed.)

Episode 15 will air on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT. The series finale was directed by David Straiton from a script by Monica Macer, Alessia Costantini, Andrew Klein, and Stephanie Hicks.

Lucas Till stars as Angus “Mac” MacGyver, Tristin Mays plays Riley Davis, and Justin Hires is Wilt Bozer. Meredith Eaton is Matty Weber, Levy Tran is Desi Nguyen, and Henry Ian Cusick plays Russ Taylor.

Season five finale’s guest stars include Amy Dionne, Alexandra Grey, Shi Ne Nielson, and Jennifer Griffin. Tom Nowicki, Ajay Vishwanathan, Charles Carson Monroe, Harlan Drum, Paige Stanco, and Jai’len Josey also guest star.

“Abduction + Memory + Time + Fireworks + Dispersal” Plot: When Mac and Riley go missing and wake up 24 hours later in a corn field with no memory of how they got there, they must unravel the mystery to find who took them, and how to get rid of the nanotrackers in their bodies, no matter the cost.

Series Description, Courtesy of CBS:

MacGyver, a reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus “Mac” MacGyver, who is part of a clandestine organization within the U.S. government, where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem-solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe are Riley Davis, an unpredictable computer hacker with a chip on her shoulder; Wilt Bozer, Mac’s roommate and an agent on the team; Matty Weber, a legend in Covert Ops and the director of operations at the Phoenix Foundation; Desi Nguyen, whose job is to protect MacGyver and his team on their global missions; and Russ Taylor, quick-witted, Oxford-educated, ex-military skilled in propaganda and lie detection, who shakes things up by challenging the way MacGyver and the team are used to doing things.

Under the aegis of the Phoenix Foundation, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip.

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights will be the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival’s Opening Night film. The film will have its world premiere at the United Palace theater in Washington Heights, the same neighborhood where In the Heights is set.

“It is such an honor to open the 20th anniversary Tribeca Film Festival with In the Heights. We’re so excited to welcome them uptown! This will be an unforgettable night at the United Palace. We can’t wait to share this musical love letter to our community, with our community, in our community,” said Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and producer of the Tony Award-winning musical that inspired the film.

The world premiere screening will take place on June 9th and, according to the festival’s official Opening Night announcement, “the festival’s opening night will be screened simultaneously across all five boroughs in multiple open-air venues.” The 20th anniversary of the Tribeca Film Festival runs June 9th – June 20th and will be the first major in-person film festival since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The cast included Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco, and Jimmy Smits. Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) directed and Quiara Alegría Hudes adapted the screenplay. Miranda, Hudes, Scott Sanders, Anthony Bregman, and Mara Jacobs served as producers.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Tribeca for a city-wide takeover of In the Heights. New York, and specifically Washington Heights, is the lead character in our film — its vibrancy and energy are unmatched. How incredible that after a year of isolation, New Yorkers from across all boroughs will have an opportunity to see it first, together, and join us in the celebration of life coming back,” stated Chu.

In the Heights is the quintessential New York story of hard work, resilience, and triumph. We are proud to feature this film as Opening Night where it can debut in its hometown in celebration of its New York roots and the Latinx community,” said Co-Founder and CEO of Tribeca Enterprises and the Tribeca Festival Jane Rosenthal.

Warner Bros. Pictures will release In the Heights in theaters and on HBO Max on June 11th.

The Plot, Courtesy of Warner Bros:

“Lights up on Washington Heights…The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.

In the Heights fuses Lin-Manuel Miranda’s kinetic music and lyrics with director Jon M. Chu’s lively and authentic eye for storytelling to capture a world very much of its place, but universal in its experience.”

Brilliant, brash and charming, Dr. Bull is the ultimate puppet master as he combines psychology, human intuition and high-tech data to learn what makes jurors, attorneys, witnesses and the accused tick. This season, Bull finds it harder than ever to navigate his personal life, as he balances fatherhood and his renewed relationship with Isabella “Izzy” Colón, his ex-wife. Izzy’s brother is Benny Colón, Bull’s trusted associate, a quick-witted lawyer who acts as defense attorney in the company’s mock trials.

Bull’s enviable group of experts at Trial Analysis Corporation shape successful narratives down to the last detail. In addition to Benny, his team includes Marissa Morgan, a neurolinguistics expert from the Department of Homeland Security who monitors shifting jury reactions in real-time for Bull; former NYPD detective Danny James, the firm’s tough but relatable investigator; Taylor Rentzel, a working mother and former colleague of Marissa’s who is an expert at coding and computer hacking; and Chunk Palmer, a former all-American lineman and stylist-turned-lawyer, who helps clients prepare their look and testimony for trial.
