‘Doogie Howser, M.D.’ Reboot Moving Forward at Disney+

Disney+ and 20th Television are reimagining Doogie Howser, M.D., the popular ’80s series that starred Neil Patrick Harris, with Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. (working title) which was just picked up to series. The new take on the popular medical drama that aired for four seasons on ABC will be set in Hawaii and has Kourtney Kang (Fresh Off the Boat, How I Met Your Mother) on board as writer and executive producer.

“Thirty years ago, a young medical prodigy took the world by storm and left a lasting impact on pop culture,” stated Ricky Strauss, president, Content and Marketing, Disney+. “Kourtney and the team at 20th Television have created a very modern take on this beloved property which will resonate with our global Disney+ audience. We can’t wait to introduce the world to the new Doogie!”

Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. is targeting a 2021 premiere on Disney+. Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar are on board to executive produce, with Jesse Bocho and Dayna Bocho producing.

Doogie Howser MD is beloved by everyone at our studio, so we knew that if we were going to reinvent it for a new generation, we had to have both the blessing and participation of the Bochcos and a creator with a fresh, new take that made us lean in,” said Carolyn Cassidy, president, 20th Television. “Kourtney’s vision for the character is so inspired, we’ve been dying to collaborate with Melvin and Jake again, and Disney+ is exactly the right home for this idea. We couldn’t be more excited.”

20th Television has not announced who’ll be taking on the title role.

The Plot:

“Set in modern-day Hawaii, the 10-episode comedy follows Lahela ‘Doogie’ Kameāloha, a mixed race 16-year-old girl, juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager. Guiding Lahela (and also complicating things) is her family, including her spit-fire Irish mother who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, and her Hawaiian ‘Local Boy’ father struggling to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.”

First Look: ‘The Spanish Princess Part 2’ Trailer Starring Charlotte Hope and Ruairi O’Connor

Although the King wishes she’d be a wife and not a soldier, a pregnant Catherine of Aragon dons her armor and goes to battle in the first trailer for The Spanish Princess Part 2. Starz’ epic limited series continues with season two drawn from The Constant Princess and The King’s Curse by Philippa Gregory and arriving on October 11, 2020.

In an interview with Elle, co-showrunner Emma Frost explained where we pick up Catherine’s story. “We start with her having everything she ever wanted, which allows us to examine the relationship between gender and power,” stated Frost. “How her success or failure as a woman impacts her ability to exercise or retain that power.”

Charlotte Hope (The English Game, Game of Thrones) returns as Queen Catherine and Ruairi O’Connor (Delicious, Teen Spirit) is back as King Henry VIII.

The eight-episode second season also features returning cast members Stephanie Levi-John (Diversion, Striking Out) as Catherine’s trusted confidante Lina de Cardonnes and Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia Trilogy) as Henry’s younger sister, Queen of Scotland Margaret (“Meg”) Tudor. Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey) returns as Margaret (“Maggie”) Pole.

The Spanish Princess series return continues the story of Queen Catherine (Hope) and Henry VIII (O’Connor). Presiding over the most glamorous court in Europe and beloved by their people, together they create an England that is proud, confident and strong enough to withstand threat from abroad. Catherine’s struggle to produce an heir places her marriage and position in the court at risk, and she is haunted by her choices from the past.

Despite proving herself a politician, a diplomat, a national inspiration and even a military commander, Catherine must battle to save her love with the King, and to preserve the peace and prosperity of their reign.

Series Descriptions:

Archer Season 11
Archer is an animated, half-hour comedy that follows Sterling Archer and his return to the spy world after a three-year coma. While many things changed during his absence, Archer is confident it will take just a little time for him to reset things back to the old ways. The problem: does the rest of the team want that? Everyone else has been doing pretty well and may not be ready for his return to throw a wrench in their well-oiled machine.

Fargo Season 4
In 1950 Kansas City, two criminal syndicates fighting for a piece of the American dream have struck an uneasy peace. Together, they control an alternate economy of exploitation, graft and drugs. To cement their truce, Loy Cannon (Chris Rock), the head of the African American crime family, trades his youngest son Satchel (Rodney Jones), to his enemy Donatello Fadda (Tommaso Ragno), the head of the Italian mafia. In return, Donatello surrenders his youngest son Zero (Jameson Braccioforte) to Loy.

When Donatello dies in the hospital following a routine surgery, the tenuous truce is threatened. Josto Fadda (Jason Schwartzman) takes up his father’s mantle, but his efforts to stabilize the organization are undermined by his brother, Gaetano (Salvatore Esposito), who has joined the family in Kansas City after building a reputation for ruthlessness in Italy. The other Fadda men – including Ebal Violante (Francesco Acquaroli), Constant Calamita (Gaetano Bruno) and Antoon Dumini (Sean Fortunato) – must decide where their loyalties lie. Amongst the turmoil, Patrick “Rabbi” Milligan (Ben Whishaw), a man who once betrayed his own family to serve the Italians, watches carefully to ensure his survival.

Sensing an opportunity, Loy tests the Faddas for weakness, deploying his most trusted advisor, Doctor Senator (Glynn Turman), and top lieutenants, Leon Bittle (Jeremie Harris), Omie Sparkman (Corey Hendrix) and Opal Rackley (James Vincent Meredith) to do his bidding. However, to Loy’s dismay, his oldest son Lemuel Cannon (Matthew Elam) wants no part of the family business.

Intertwined with this tale of immigration, assimilation and power, are the stories of Ethelrida Pearl Smutny (E’myri Crutchfield), the precocious 16-year-old daughter of Thurman (Andrew Bird) and Dibrell Smutny (Anji White), an interracial couple who own their own mortuary; U.S. Marshal Dick “Deafy” Wickware (Timothy Olyphant), a Mormon lawman; Detective Odis Weff (Jack Huston), the Kansas City cop known for his compulsive tics; and Oraetta Mayflower (Jessie Buckley), a nurse who cannot abide others’ suffering.

‘The Walking Dead’ Ends with Season 11, Carol and Daryl Spin-off to Follow

It’s really not much of a surprise that AMC’s The Walking Dead is coming to an end. The network confirmed today the upcoming two-year expanded season 11 will be the zombie apocalypse’s final season. With that bit of bad news for stalwart TWD fans comes the good news that a spin-off series focusing on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) has been greenlit.

“It’s been ten years ‘gone bye;’ what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that,” said Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe. “What’s clear is that this show has been about the living, made by a passionate cast, team of writer/producers, producers, and crew, bringing to life the vision put forth by Robert Kirkman in his brilliant comic — and supported by the best fans in the world. We have a lot of thrilling story left to tell on TWD, and then, this end will be a beginning of more Walking Dead — brand new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices, and new mythologies. This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres. Evolution is upon us. The Walking Dead lives.”

The Walking Dead‘s showrunner Angela Kang will guide the new spin-off. Kang co-created the new series with Gimple.

“I look forward to digging in with our brilliant writers, producers, directors, cast and crew to bring this epic final chapter of Robert Kirkman’s story to life for our fans over the next two years,” said Kang. “The Walking Dead flagship series has been my creative home for a decade and so it’s bittersweet to bring it to an end, but I could not be more excited to be working with Scott Gimple and AMC to develop a new series for Daryl and Carol. Working with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride has been a highlight of my career and I’m thrilled that we get to keep telling stories together.”

The untitled Carol and Daryl series is targeting a 2023 premiere.

“Of course, I’ve always enjoyed working so closely with Norman throughout these many seasons. In playing Carol, and as a viewer of the show, I’ve also long been intrigued with ‘Daryl and Carol,’ and by what so early on between them, even then, felt somehow bound,” explained McBride. “Their shared history is long, and each’s own personal fight to survive, even longer – the more obvious aspect of what has kept them close and loyal. But there is also a rather mysterious aspect to their fondness for one another that I enjoy, and their playfulness when the world permits. I’m very curious! Angela has a way of shaking things up in great and unexpected ways. She’s like a kid playing with the dimmer switch! I’m very excited!”

“I feel incredibly honored to be a part of The Walking Dead. This show changed my life and career and everyone involved has truly been a family for me over the last decade. I’m thankful for AMC’s love and support and know there’s so much more story to tell and so much more to bring the best fans in the world. Daryl’s relationship with Carol has always been my favorite relationship on the show (sorry Rick),” said Reedus. “I love the way these characters interact and relate to each other on so many levels and can’t wait to see where their ride goes from here.”

The final season of TWD will consist of 24 episodes. Combine that with the six remaining season 10 episodes and you get a total of 30 episodes left in the series. AMC expects TWD will wrap up in 2022.

In addition to Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and the just-announced Carol and Daryl spin-off, AMC and Gimple are expanding the TWD world even more with Tales of the Walking Dead, described as “an episodic anthology with individual episodes or arcs of episodes focused on new or existing characters, backstories or other stand-alone experiences.”

Season one found rapper T-Pain (the Monster) emerging as the winner, with Donny Osmond (the Peacock) finishing second. The Masked Singer Synopsis, Courtesy of Fox:

The singing competition series features celebrities facing off against one another with one major twist: each singer is shrouded from head-to-toe in an elaborate costume, complete with full face mask to conceal his or her identity. With each performance, the host, panelists, audience, viewers and even the other contestants are left guessing who is singing behind the mask.

Ranging from Grammy Award winners to legendary athletes, and everything in between, the singers may attempt to throw the crowd off their scent, while keen observers might pick up on tiny clues buried throughout the show. One singer will be eliminated each week, ultimately revealing his or her true identity.

Disney will satisfy Frozen fans who really want to know the history of the adorable summer-loving snowman, Olaf, with Once Upon a Snowman. The new short features Josh Gad reprising his role as the second most famous snowman (Frosty still takes top honors) and was directed by Frozen 2‘s “Olaf” animation supervisor Trent Correy and story artist Dan Abraham.

“This is an idea that started to form when I was an animator on the first Frozen,” explained director Trent Correy. “Dan Abraham and I are so grateful and excited to have had the opportunity to direct this short, working with our incredible colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios.”

“Josh Gad gives one of the great animated voice performances as Olaf through the Frozen films,” said director Dan Abraham. “To have the opportunity to work with him in the recording booth was such a privilege and career highlight.”

Once Upon a Snowman will premiere on Disney+ on October 23, 2020.

What happened to Olaf within the moments after Elsa created him as she was “letting it go” and building her ice palace, and when Anna and Kristoff first meet him in the forest? And how did Olaf learn to love Summer? The previously untold origins of Olaf, the innocent and insightful, summer-loving snowman who melted hearts in the Academy Award®-winning 2013 Disney animated feature, Frozen, and its acclaimed 2019 sequel, are revealed in the all-new Walt Disney Animation Studios animated short, Once Upon a Snowman. The film follows Olaf’s first steps as he comes to life and searches for his identity in the snowy mountains outside Arendelle.
