‘Marrowbone’ Trailer Starring Charlie Heaton and Anya Taylor-Joy is Super Creepy

Magnet Releasing’s first official trailer for Marrowbone is really weird and creepy, and it doesn’t reveal too much while still being an effective tease of the upcoming horror film. Marrowbone marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Sergio G. Sánchez who’s best known for writing The Orphanage (2007) and The Impossible (2012).

Marrowbone‘s cast is led by Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things, Casualty), Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch: A New England Folktale), George MacKay (Captain Fantastic, 11.22.63), Mia Goth (A Cure for Wellness, Everest), and Matthew Stagg (War & Peace TV mini-series). The cast also includes Kyle Soller (You, Me and the Apocalypse), Tom Fisher (Kingdom), and Myra Kathryn Pearse.

Belén Atienza, Álvaro Augustín, Ghislain Barrois, and The Orphanage and The Impossible director J.A. Bayona served as producers. Sandra Hermida and Paloma Molina executive produced. Sergio G. Sánchez’s behind the scenes team includes cinematographer Xavi Gimenez, editor Elena Ruiz, and production designer Patrick Salvador.

In an interview with The Moveable Fest during the Toronto International Film Festival, writer/director Sanchez explained how the film came about. “It actually started with my producer Belén Atienza. We like to play this game whenever we have some free time that we call the pitching game, and [she] was like, ‘Okay, throw me an idea for something. Don’t even think about it.’ So I gave her the seed of this story, and she was really excited about it. She told me, ‘Why don’t you try and just write three pages a day?’ I had no idea where it was going – I only had the concept – but I started sending her three pages every day, and suddenly by the time I got to page 60 I was so in love with the story, I wrote the last 40 pages in one day.”

Magnet Releasing has set an April 13, 2018 theatrical release date. The horror film will also premiere on April 13th on Amazon Video, On Demand, and iTunes.

The Plot: Four siblings seek refuge in an old home after the death of their mother, only to discover that the house has another, more sinister, inhabitant, in this haunting thriller.

I Kill Giants Poster
Poster for ‘I Kill Giants’ from RLJE Films.

RLJE Films just debuted the official theatrical poster for the 2018 movie I Kill Giants, based on the critically acclaimed Man of Action graphic novel by Joe Kelly and Ken Niimura. Joe Kelly adapted his graphic novel for the screen and first time feature film helmer Anders Walter directed the fantasy thriller which had its world premiere at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.

The I Kill Giants cast includes Zoe Saldana (the Star Trek film franchise, the Guardians of the Galaxy films), Imogen Poots (Roadies, That Awkward Moment), Madison Wolfe (Zoo, The Conjuring 2), and Sydney Wade (Wolfblood, Happy Valley). Michael Barnathan, Chris Columbus, Kyle Franke, Kim Magnusson, Adrian Politowski, and Nick Spicer are the film’s producers. Johanna Hogan, Joe Kelly, Michelle Miller, Justin Nappi, and Mark Radcliffe executive produced.

RLJE Films is targeting a March 23, 2018 theatrical release along with a simultaneous release On Demand and Digital HD. The thriller has a running time of 106 minutes and is not yet rated.

Not many reviews appeared online following the film’s debut at the Toronto Film Festival, however the three critics registered on Rotten Tomatoes all awarded it positive reviews. The Hollywood Reporter’s John DeFore calls it “a sensitive and attractive, if not wholly convincing, pairing of fantasy with real-life turmoil,” and Screen International’s Allan Hunter says I Kill Giants is “a sweetly imaginative, tenderly played coming of age drama.”

The Plot: I Kill Giants tells the story of Barbara Thorsen (Madison Wolfe), a teenage girl who chooses to escape the realities of school and a drab family life by retreating into her magical world of Titans and Giants. With the help of her new friend Sophia (Sydney Wade) and her school therapist (Zoe Saldana), she will learn to battle her Giants and face her fears – tackling the mean bullies at school, her sister (Imogen Poots) and her difficult work situation, and eventually her fear of death.

‘A Quiet Place’ Shows Off Another New Trailer

The latest trailer for Paramount Pictures’ horror thriller A Quiet Place provides the first look at life outside the family at the heart of the story’s home. It also teases that something major occurred worldwide and that event led to the current situation in which people are attacked if they make any noise.

The film’s new trailer warns “those who have survived live by one rule: never make a sound.” The trailer also shows the children having a difficult time staying quiet, with the mother (played by Emily Blunt) asking, “Who are we if we can’t protect them? We have to protect them.”

A Quiet Place was directed by John Krasinski, best known for playing Jim on the long-running half-hour comedy series, The Office. Krasinski’s directing credits include three episodes of The Office as well as the feature films Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (2009) and The Hollars (2016). In addition to directing A Quiet Place, Krasinski also co-wrote the screenplay with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck and stars in the film alongside his wife, Emily Blunt (The Girl on the Train, Sicario, and the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns).

Noah Jupe (Houdini and Doyle, The Night Manager) and Millicent Simmonds (Wonderstruck) co-star as Blunt and Krasinski’s young children. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller were involved as producers.

Paramount Pictures is planning an April 6, 2018 theatrical release. That April release date puts it up against the comedy film Blockers, starring Leslie Mann and John Cena, and the thriller Chappaquiddick with Jason Clarke and Kate Mara.

The Plot: In the modern horror thriller A Quiet Place, a family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you.

The network also announced Casey Wilson (Happy Endings) has been tapped to guest star and will have a recurring role in the series if it moves forward.

The half-hour comedy pilot was created by David Caspe (Happy Endings) and Jordan Cahan (My Best Friend’s Girl) and is being directed and executive produced by Seth Rogen (This Is the End) and Evan Goldberg (The Interview). Caspe and Cahan are on board as showrunners and executive producers, with filming expected to start this week in Los Angeles.

The Ball Street Plot: Ball Street takes us back to October 19, 1987 – aka Black Monday – one of the worst stock market crashes in the history of Wall Street. To this day, no one knows who or what caused it. Ball Street is the story of how a bunch of fearless underdogs took on the blue-blood, old-boys club of Wall Street. Among the intrepid traders who make up the group led by Cheadle’s character are Dawn (Hall), the no-nonsense head of trading and the only woman on the team, along with Keith (Scheer) and Ronnie (Eugene Cordero). Casey Wilson will guest star as Tiff, Blair’s (Rannells) girlfriend who appreciates the finer things in life that Blair’s new job may not provide.

‘Life Sentence’ New Series Details: Photos, Plot, and Cast Info

The CW’s adding the new dramatic series Life Sentence to its primetime lineup beginning on March 7, 2018. The series comes from executive producers Erin Cardillo (Fuller House) Richard Keith (Significant Mother), Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), Jeff Ingold (Ground Floor), Oliver Goldstick (Pretty Little Liars), and Lee Toland Krieger (Riverdale), with Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) leading the cast.

Life Sentence will air on Wednesdays at 9pm ET/PT. In addition to Lucy Hale, the cast of season one includes Elliot Knight (Once Upon A Time), Dylan Walsh (Nip/Tuck), Gillian Vigman (The Hangover), Jayson Blair (Whiplash), Brooke Lyons (The Affair), Riley Smith (Frequency), and Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush).

In support of the series’ premiere, The CW released a batch of photos along with a lengthy plot description.

The Plot: Life Sentence follows Stella (Lucy Hale), a girl who has spent the last eight years living like she was dying (because she was). Just like the “manic pixie dream girl” heroines in her favorite sappy cancer movies, Stella traveled the world, faced her darkest fears and found true love on a whirlwind trip to Paris. But when Stella finds out that her cancer has been cured, she is suddenly forced to face the long-term consequences of the “live in the moment” decisions she made, including marrying a total stranger. And if that’s not enough, she also finds out that her “perfect family” isn’t so perfect after all.

Turns out, because she was dying, everyone in her life hid their problems from her. But, now that she’s well, all bets are off. Stella is shocked to learn that her parents, Peter (Dylan Walsh) and Ida (Gillian Vigman), have fallen out of love, partly because Peter spent their retirement helping Stella make the most of her final days, and partly because Ida has fallen in love with her best friend (Stella’s godmother), Poppy. Also, it turns out Stella may be responsible for the fact that her sister, Elizabeth (Brooke Lyons), gave up her own dreams to take care of Stella and start a family with her husband Diego (Carlos PenaVega), just to give her parents something positive to focus on.

Then there’s Stella’s often overlooked brother, Aiden (Jayson Blair), who’s pushing 30 and still lives above the garage, sells Adderall to soccer moms and uses Stella’s cancer to guilt them into sleeping with him. And, of course, there’s her husband Wes (Elliot Knight), a handsome Londoner who she agreed to spend the rest of her life with, thinking that would only be six to eight months, tops. Now that their forever just got a whole lot longer than they were expecting, Wes begins to worry that he can’t continue to pretend to be her perfect husband for the rest of his life.

With a real future suddenly in front of her, Stella’s cinematic life snaps into reality, and instead of living like she’s dying, she will have to learn to live like she’s living, and help her family and friends do the same. This multi-generational, coming-of-age story proves that we all end up living somewhere between our dreams and reality… and maybe that’s okay.

Box Office: ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ Beats Bunnies and Heroes

The final chapter in the Fifty Shades saga, Fifty Shades Freed, didn’t match the opening weekend domestic box office of either Fifty Shades of Grey or Fifty Shades Darker. However, it’s opening numbers worldwide were enough to nudge the franchise starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson over $1 billion.

Ringing up $38 million domestically over its first three days in release, Universal Pictures’ Fifty Shades Freed was down $8 million from 2017’s Fifty Shades Darker. The opening weekend domestic box office numbers were also down $47 million from 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey‘s first weekend box office numbers.

The weekend’s other new releases, Peter Rabbit and The 15:17 to Paris, performed about as expected and finishing in second and third place, respectively. Peter Rabbit received an A- score from audiences, according to Cinemascore, while The 15:17 to Paris only earned a B- average among ticket buyers. Critics weren’t into any of the three major studio releases, with Peter Rabbit sitting at 58%, The 15:17 to Paris at 21%, and Fifty Shades Freed at just 10% on Rotten Tomatoes. None of the big releases managed a fresh score, but the weekend’s two limited releases – Permission and Golden Exits – raked in mostly positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Box Office Top 10: February 9-11, 2018

  1. Fifty Shades Freed – $38,806,000
  2. Peter Rabbit – $25,000,000
  3. The 15:17 to Paris – $12,600,000
  4. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle – $9,825,000
  5. The Greatest Showman – $6,400,000
  6. Maze Runner: The Death Cure – $6,000,000
  7. Winchester – $5,050,000
  8. The Post – $3,500,000
  9. The Shape of Water – $3,000,000
  10. Den of Thieves – $2,870,000

The Fifty Shades Freed Plot: Believing they have left behind shadowy figures from their past, newlyweds Christian (Jamie Dornan) and Ana (Dakota Johnson) fully embrace an inextricable connection and shared life of luxury. But just as she steps into her role as Mrs. Grey and he relaxes into an unfamiliar stability, new threats could jeopardize their happy ending before it even begins.
