The Plot, Courtesy of Freeform:
Motherland: Fort Salem is set in an alternate, present-day America where witches ended their persecution 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the U.S. government to fight for their country. Season one followed three young women from basic training in combat magic into terrifying and thrilling early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped with women on the front lines, the fight looming and terrorist threats that are strikingly familiar to our world, but with supernatural tactics and weapons.
In season two, Raelle, Tally, and Abigail confront higher stakes, dangerous magic, and a new threat from an ancient group of witch-hunters, the Camarilla. In the first season, we saw our trio of young witches follow in the footsteps of their foremothers, defending the nation from The Spree as part of the United States Army. Their training is intensified when they are promoted to attend War College, where their magic, relationships, and beliefs will be pushed to the limits.
While General Alder seeks out new witches to join the wars to come, The Spree and the Army learn their fight may no longer be with one another. But how can two enemies work together to thwart a hatred that won’t stop until all witches are exterminated?

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) has announced a collaboration with four-time Grammy Award winner Carole King on an original song for the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect. The original song, “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home),” will be released on Friday and the complete soundtrack will drop on August 13, 2021.
“Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” is the film’s only original song.
The song marks the first time Hudson and King have worked together as co-writers. Grammy Award winner will.i.am, co-founder of Black Eyed Peas, was the track’s producer.
“Music is such a living and breathing character in this film, as it was in Ms. Franklin’s life. The process of creating this song was like constructing the greatest tribute I could possibly offer to her spirit,” stated Hudson while announcing the song on social media. “It was the final exhale of this extraordinary project and one that I let out with complete fulfillment. Being able to do so with Carole and Jamie was an incredible privilege. Carole is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and, whether we were trading stories, playing piano together over video conference, or working through lyrics, it was always a masterclass – both in life and music. Jamie and I have collaborated together in the past and it’s always so wonderful to create with him – he is continuously thinking outside of the box in a way that deepens the musical experience in indescribable ways. Our goal was to show that music was always the anchor for Ms. Franklin, in all that she did, and I hope this song illustrates the strength of her voice – both literally and figuratively – which always brought her home.”
“Writing a song with Jamie Hartman and Jennifer Hudson felt both familiar and fresh at the same time. The process of songwriting continues to amaze me,” said King. “One minute there’s nothing, and then a song grows out of the seed of an idea. The seed was dormant when Jennifer, Jamie, and I first met virtually. Jennifer and I had previously performed together, and I was excited about writing with her for no less than a film called Respect in which Jennifer plays Aretha Franklin! I’m so pleased to have not just one but two songs as part of the soundtrack of Respect-the 21st-century song ‘Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)’ and my 20th century co-write with Gerry Goffin, ‘(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman.'”
MGM has set an August 13, 2021 theatrical release date for Respect.
The Plot:
Respect follows the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, Respect is the remarkable true story of Franklin’s journey to find her voice.
Netflix’s upcoming docuseries Heist explores the truth behind three massive heists in American history. The just-released trailer teases details on the heists with the actual people involved providing an inside look at what went down.
The six-episode docuseries was directed by Derek Doneen (The Price of Free), Martin Desmond Roe (Two Distant Strangers), and Nick Frew (We Are the Champions). Each director handles two episodes focusing on a specific heist.
Netflix will launch the series on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.
Netflix released the following description of the upcoming docuseries along with episode details:
Viewers will see how the subjects select their targets, the meticulous planning that goes into the job, the sweet glory of success… and the boneheaded errors that lead investigators straight to the truth. The perpetrators sit down for in-depth, frequently emotional conversations, alongside family members, accomplices, and the law enforcement officers who eventually brought them to justice.
Stunning in their brazenness, occasionally comical in their simplicity, and brutally honest about the fact that crime doesn’t (usually) pay, these history-making heists provide enough action, adventure, heart, and drama to satisfy fans of true crime and Hollywood capers alike. They’ll leave audiences breathless by posing the question: What would you risk for the score of a lifetime?
Sex Magick Money Murder
Directed by Derek Doneen
Heather Tallchief was 21, disillusioned, and lost in life when she met a prison poet (and paroled murderer) named Roberto Solis. Swept off her feet and literally hypnotized by his mysticism, danger, and practice of “sex magick,” she did his bidding, and got behind the wheel for one of the largest armored truck robberies in Las Vegas history, driving off with over $3 million in the back. But life on the run with a former convict who can’t be tied down wasn’t as romantic as she had dreamed, and the unexpected birth of her child had her reconsidering her life choices.
The Money Plane
Directed by Martin Desmond Roe
After two heartbreaking miscarriages, Cuban immigrant Karls Monzon was determined to do whatever it took to adopt the baby girl he and his wife had always dreamed about. That’s when a childhood buddy told him about the plane full of cash: Twice a week, a flight carrying $100 million landed at Miami International Airport, and the pallets of money were left briefly unguarded in an open warehouse. Monzon, a fan of crime shows, did all the research he needed to pull off the heist by watching American TV. Because of his diligence, Monzon and his crew got away with $7.4 million. But as the saying goes, it’s easier to take the money than to keep it. The FBI never expected to find themselves in the middle of a kidnapping and extortion plot while they were investigating the heist.
The Bourbon King
Directed by Nick Frew
Gilbert “Toby” Curtsinger was bored. A former elite league softball star, he was now a suburban dad with an uninspiring distillery job. Smuggling out bottles of rare and highly-coveted Pappy Van Winkle and selling them for cash within the “good ol’ boy” network of Kentucky bourbon country seemed like an easy way to boost his family’s quality of life, but his booze-skimming soon went from side hustle to organized crime. When 200 bottles of the legendary bourbon—worth $1,000 to $4,000 per bottle depending on the vintage—went missing, “Pappygate” made international news, and the media-hungry sheriff left no barrel unturned in tracking down Curtsinger’s operation. But things are never as simple as they seem.
