Michael B. Jordan and Amazon Studios Expand TV and Film Deal

Without Remorse Poster

Michael B. Jordan, star of one of the best 2021 Super Bowl commercials, has expanded his deal with Amazon Studios. Jordan personified Amazon’s Alexa in the much-buzzed-about commercial which aired one day prior to the announcement Jordan’s Outlier Society has extended their exclusive deal with Amazon for television and film projects.

Jordan’s Outlier Society launched in 2016 and is dedicated to spotlighting diverse stories and bringing diverse voices to market.

Jordan will soon be seen starring in the film adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse directed by Stefano Sollima. The action movie will launch on Amazon Prime Video on April 30, 2021.

“We’re excited to deepen our relationship with Outlier Society! Michael, Liz, and the team will be key partners in our efforts to showcase compelling, ambitious, and addictive content that can reach our global audience. They share our passion for amplifying new and exciting voices with an emphasis on diversity both above and below the line,” stated Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “We can’t wait for everyone to see Without Remorse, our next chapter in the Tom Clancy universe – it’s an action-packed thrill ride fans will love.”

“Bringing Outlier Society’s slate of film, television, and multi-media content all under the same roof is an exciting next chapter for us,” said Michael B. Jordan, Outlier Society CEO. “Amazon’s global and expansive reach offers us the ability to entertain and engage our audience in innovative ways while maintaining our commitment to supporting a wide range of stories and storytellers. I’m thrilled to be kicking off the partnership with Without Remorse this Spring.”

The Without Remorse Plot, Courtesy of Amazon Studios:

An elite Navy SEAL uncovers an international conspiracy while seeking justice for the murder of his pregnant wife in Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, the explosive origin story of action hero John Clark – one of the most popular characters in author Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe. When a squad of Russian soldiers kills his family in retaliation for his role in a top-secret op, Sr. Chief John Kelly (Michael B. Jordan) pursues the assassins at all costs.

Joining forces with a fellow SEAL (Jodie Turner-Smith) and a shadowy CIA agent (Jamie Bell), Kelly’s mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S. and Russia in an all-out war. Torn between personal honor and loyalty to his country, Kelly must fight his enemies without remorse if he hopes to avert disaster and reveal the powerful figures behind the conspiracy.

Emmy Award-winner Dan Harmon and Fox are moving forward on an animated comedy set in mythical ancient Greece. The just-announced project is part of the deal Harmon, co-creator of the critically acclaimed animated comedy Rick & Morty as well as the creator of Community, struck with Fox Entertainment in 2020.

According to Fox, the series is currently in the casting stage. The untitled series is targeting a 2022 premiere. (The series is official Krapopolis.)

“Leave it to Dan Harmon to turn the mythos of early Greek civilization into remarkably sharp commentary on today’s politics, celebrity and pop culture,” stated Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment, FOX Entertainment. “This project is an incredibly irreverent family comedy as told by one of the town’s most inventive storytellers. We are proud to be partnered with Dan on this series, which strengthens our hold on the animation space and, as we continue to build FOX Entertainment, marks an important first step for us with our first fully owned scripted property.”

Harmon’s animated comedy will be produced by Fox’s animation studio, Bento Box Entertainment.

Fox’s very brief description of Harmon’s latest animated project reveals it will center “on a flawed family of humans, gods, and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.”

Critics Choice Awards 2021 Film Nominees: ‘Mank,’ ‘Minari’ Top the List

Gary Oldman in Mank
Gary Oldman stars in Netflix’s ‘Mank’

Members of the film branch of the Critics Choice Association (of which I’m one) have spoken and it appears we really love Mank and Minari. Mank topped the list of the 26th Annual Critics Choice Awards film nominees, scoring 12 nominations. Minari followed close behind with 10. Both will be competing in the Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay categories.

Other big winners include Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom with eight nominations and News of the World with seven. Da 5 Bloods, Nomadland, One Night in Miami, Promising Young Woman, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 each picked up six nominations.

“What a year it has been for film! We are honored to have the opportunity to recognize the tireless work of so many who overcame unprecedented obstacles to deliver these beautiful, challenging, nuanced pieces of art to our screens,” stated Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin. “The stories told by this year’s nominees will continue to resonate and we congratulate each and every one of them for their extraordinary accomplishments.”

Winners will be announced during a live ceremony airing on The CW on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 7pm ET/PT. Taye Diggs returns to host the awards show for his third consecutive year, however, this year’s show will be dramatically different. The Covid-19 pandemic has forced the 2021 Critics Choice Awards to opt for an in-person/virtual hybrid format, with some presenters joining Diggs to shoot their portions on a stage in LA. The nominees will appear remotely.

CBS’s Blue Bloods season 11 episode seven finds Danny witnessing a shooting and disagreeing with the detective assigned to the case. Directed by Jennifer Opresnick from a script by Daniel Truly, episode seven – “In Too Deep” – will air on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT.

Tom Selleck returns to lead the cast as Frank Reagan, Donnie Wahlberg is Danny Reagan, and Bridget Moynahan plays Erin Reagan. The cast also includes Will Estes as Jamie Reagan, Len Cariou as Henry Reagan, Sami Gayle as Nicky Reagan-Boyle, Marisa Ramirez as Det. Maria Baez, and Vanessa Ray plays Officer Eddie Janko.

Guest stars include Erin Neufer, Angel Desai, Jamie Jackson, Nico Greetham, Mike Carlsen, and John Scherer. Lorraine Farris, Don Scimé, Mark Borkowski, and Madeline Grey Defreece also guest star.

“In Too Deep” Plot: After Danny witnesses a drive-by shooting, he butts heads with the detective assigned to the case. Also, a childhood friend of Jamie’s is convinced that she has single-handedly solved a cold case murder, and Frank struggles to trust an ex-detective when he brings forth information about a suspected crime ring.

Series Description, Courtesy of CBS:

Blue Bloods is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Frank Reagan is the New York Police Commissioner, and heads both the police force and the Reagan brood. He runs his department as diplomatically as he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his unapologetically bold father, Henry, during his stint as Chief.

A source of pride and concern for Frank is his eldest son, Danny, a seasoned detective, family man and Iraq War vet who on occasion uses dubious tactics to solve cases with his partner, Detective Maria Baez. The Reagan women in the family include middle daughter, Erin, a New York Assistant D.A. who serves as the legal compass for her siblings and father, and is a single parent to her daughter Nicky, who is pursuing a career in San Francisco. Jamie is the youngest Reagan, a Harvard Law graduate and the family’s “golden boy.”

Unable to deny the family tradition, Jamie decided to give up a lucrative future in law and follow in the family footsteps as a cop. He’s found a friend and ally in his wife, Eddie, who keeps him on his toes, and has very different reasons than the Reagans for joining the police force. The Reagans welcomed a new family addition after Frank learned his deceased son, officer Joe Reagan, has an adult child they never knew about, a young man who is a rising NYPD cop.

Series Description, Courtesy of CBS:

Magnum P.I. is a modern take on the classic series centering on Thomas Magnum, a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business. The “majordomo” of the property is Juliet Higgins, a beautiful and commanding disavowed MI:6 agent whose second job is to keep Magnum in line, with the help of her two Dobermans.

When Magnum needs back-up on a job, he turns to his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors, Theodore “TC” Calvin, a former Marine chopper pilot who runs Island Hoppers, a helicopter tour business, and Orville “Rick” Wright, a former Marine door-gunner-turned-impresario of Oahu’s coolest nightclub and the most connected man on the island.

Suspicious of Magnum’s casual attitude and presence at his crime scenes, Detective Gordon Katsumoto finds that he and Magnum are more alike than either of them care to admit. One of Magnum’s biggest supporters is Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta, the unofficial “House Mom” and cultural curator of Robin’s Nest. With keys to a vintage Ferrari in one hand, aviator sunglasses in the other, and an Old Düsseldorf longneck chilling in the fridge, Thomas Magnum is back on the case!
