‘House of the Dragon’ Adds Milly Alcock as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen

House of the Dragon Cast

HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has cast Milly Alcock as the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. The much-anticipated series also just announced Emily Carey has come on board as the young Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Hand of the King Otto Hightower.

The two new cast members join a cast that includes Paddy Considine (The Third Day), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player one), Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers), and Matt Smith (The Crown). Steve Toussaint (It’s a Sin), Eve Best (Nurse Jackie), Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man), and Sonoya Mizuno (Crazy Rich Asians) also star in season one.

Author George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal (Colony) co-created the series which is based on Martin’s Fire & Blood. Condal and Emmy Award winner Miguel Sapochnik (Games of Thrones) are the season one showrunners and executive produce with Martin, Vince Gerardis, Sara Lee Hess, and Ron Schmidt.

Sapochnik won an Emmy and a Directors Guild award for directing one of GoT‘s best episodes, “Battle of the Bastards.” He’ll direct season one episodes along with Clare Kilner (The Alienist: Angel of Darkness) and Geeta V. Patel (The Witcher)

Game of Thrones‘ Ramin Djawadi returns to the fantasy world of dragons as composer.

House of the Dragon Details, Courtesy of HBO:

The series will tell the story of House Targaryen (a.k.a. the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen) and take place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

  • Paddy Considine as “King Viserys Targaryen”: Viserys was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but as we’ve learned from Game of Thrones, good men do not necessarily make for great kings.
  • Emma D’Arcy as “Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen”: The king’s first-born child, she is of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything… but she was not born a man.
  • Matt Smith as “Prince Daemon Targaryen”: The younger brother to King Viserys and heir to the throne. A peerless warrior and a dragonrider, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air…
  • Steve Toussaint as “Lord Corlys Velaryon” (“The Sea Snake”): Lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen. As “The Sea Snake,” the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros, Lord Corlys built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world.
  • Olivia Cooke as “Alicent Hightower”: The daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.
  • Rhys Ifans as “Otto Hightower”: The Hand of the King, Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king’s brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne.
  • Eve Best as “Princess Rhaenys Velaryon”: A dragonrider and wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Queen Who Never Was” was passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council because the realm favored her cousin, Viserys, simply for being male.
  • Sonoya Mizuno as “Mysaria”: She came to Westeros with nothing, sold more times than she can recall, and could have wilted…but instead she rose to become the most trusted – and most unlikely – ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.
  • Fabien Frankel as “Ser Criston Cole”: Of Dornish descent, Ser Criston is the common-born son of the steward to the Lord of Blackhaven. He has no claim to land or titles; all he has to his name is his honor and his preternatural skill with a sword.
  • Milly Alcock as “Young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen”: She’s the king’s first-born child, of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything…but she was not born a man.
  • Emily Carey as “Young Alicent Hightower”: The daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. Alicent was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.

‘Fear Street Part 2: 1978’ Trailer – Summer Camp Becomes a Slaughterhouse

Why are summer camps serial killer magnets? The just-released trailer for part two of Netflix’s Fear Street Part 2: 1978 finds teens at a summer camp attempting to survive the evil with a thirst for Shadysiders.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 premiered on Friday, July 2, 2021. Fear Street Part 2: 1978 will arrive on Friday, July 9th followed by the third film of the trilogy, Fear Street Part 3: 1666, on July 16th.

For 199r, Scream stood above all rest — it’s peak ’90s horror and, I think, one of the most brilliant movies ever made, period. Then for 1978, I got to look at the heyday of slasher films — Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street. For 1666…I found the best inspiration for me lay in the beautiful world made rotten of Terence Malick’s The New World,” said Fear Street trilogy director Leigh Janiak.

Producers include Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, David Ready, and Kori Adelson (on 1666). Adelson is an executive producer on 1994 and 1978. Director Leigh Janiak, Timothy M. Bourne, Yvonne M. Bernard, Joan Waricha, and Jane Stine also executive produce.

The Plot, Courtesy of The CW:

Walker stars Jared Padalecki as Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his own moral code, who returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home. He’ll attempt to reconnect with his creative and thoughtful son (Culley) and his headstrong, somewhat rebellious teenaged daughter (Brinson) and navigate clashes with his family – an ADA brother (Allen) who stepped in during Walker’s absence, his perceptive mother (Hagen) and his traditional rancher father (Pileggi).

Walker’s former colleague is now his Ranger Captain (Bell). Walker finds unexpected common ground with his new partner (one of the first women in Texas Rangers’ history) played by Lindsey Morgan, while growing increasingly suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death.

‘The Boss Baby: Family Business’ Movie Review

The Boss Baby: Family Business
Tabitha Templeton (Ariana Greenblatt), Tina Templeton (Amy Sedaris), Carol Templeton (Eva Longoria) and Tim Templeton (James Marsden) in DreamWorks Animation’s ‘The Boss Baby: Family Business’

The Boss Baby: Family Business is the sequel no one was asking for but DreamWorks Animation gave us anyway. The film begins with a voice-over narration from now adult Tim Templeton (voiced by James Marsden) who’s a stay-at-home dad to his two daughters while his wife, Carol (voiced by Eva Longoria), is the breadwinner of the family. Tim’s little brother, Ted (voiced by Alec Baldwin), is also all grown up and has become a rich and powerful CEO. Although he never misses getting gifts to his nieces on their birthdays and on Christmas, Ted almost never actually visits his brother’s family.

That changes, however, when little baby Tina (voiced by Amy Sedaris) tricks her uncle into visiting by messaging him to say her big sister, Tabitha (voiced by Arianna Greenblatt), was injured riding the pony he gave her. As soon as Tina’s alone with both Ted and Tim she reveals she can talk, walk, plan, and reason – and is a secret agent for Baby Corp. She gives them a magical formula capable of changing them back to babies for 48 hours. Tina explains Baby Corp needs them to go undercover on a top-secret mission.

Once Ted’s back to being a baby and Tim is a boy Tabitha’s age, the unlikely team attempt to uncover the plan of evil genius Dr. Irwin Armstrong (voiced by Jeff Goldblum) who runs an advanced school for babies and children.

Once inside the school, they discover Dr. Armstrong’s going to launch a worldwide baby revolution that would eliminate parents caring and raising their children by turning them into mindless, compliant zombies. That forces the estranged brothers to work together to stop Dr. Armstrong.

The voice cast’s the best thing about the film. Alec Baldwin returns as the original boss baby, Ted, who still loves money and telling everyone what to do. Baldwin’s great at bringing out the humor as Ted tries to get his pre-school baby classmates to build a tower to use to escape the locked playroom prison he’s stuck in.

James Marsden does a solid job of voicing Tim (replacing Tobey Maguire from the first film) as a creative and energetic dad who’s afraid his oldest daughter’s now embarrassed by him. He truly conveys Tim’s love for his daughter and his fear of losing their special bond.

Jeff Goldblum delivers the stand-out voice performance in the film as the evil Dr. Armstrong. His unique voice and delivery make Dr. Armstrong the most entertaining character in the film. It’s also very obvious that Armstrong’s mannerisms and movements were inspired by Goldblum’s own mannerisms.

The animation’s bright and vibrant, and the musical score’s upbeat and energetic, especially in the fast-paced action scenes. One of the best scenes in the film involves Ted and Tim riding Tabitha’s pony to the new school which turns into a chaotic chase involving motorcycle cops, cars, trucks, and even a movie theatre patron being dragged along for the ride.

The biggest problem with the film is its unsuccessful attempts at emotional scenes between Tim and Tabitha and Ted and Tim. The scenes in which the estranged brothers discover just how close they were as kids growing up and try to recapture it come off forced and feel completely out of sync with the film’s zany antics.

Colorful, chaotic, and loud, The Boss Baby: Family Business is a silly, childish, and obnoxious adventure. The film’s at its best when there’s frantic action and chases happening on the screen but falls flat when it attempts any meaningful and heartfelt moments.

The Boss Baby: Family Business is a forgettable sequel that ultimately fails by having its main point be the importance of family and spending time together in a film that’s 95% wacky, childish, and madcap antics.
