‘How I Met Your Mother’s Pam Fryman Signs on to ‘How I Met Your Father’

How I Met Your Mother director Pam Fryman is confirmed to direct the pilot episode of Hulu’s How I Met Your Father and serve as an executive producer on the series. Fryman’s lengthy history with HIMYM—she directed all but 12 episodes over its nine-season run—makes her the perfect choice to helm episode one of the spinoff.

Produced by 20th Television, How I Met Your Father, season one, will consist of 10 episodes. Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are writing the first season and will executive produce along with Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.

Hilary Duff has been cast as Sophie, the mom who recalls to her son the story of how she met his dad. Duff will also serve as a producer. Chris Lowell will play Jesse, a character described as “smart, a bit of an edge and cynical about love. He’s an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver to make ends meet and lives with his best friend, Tom.”

“My only complaint about my time on HIMYM was that it came to an end – I’m so excited to be stepping back into this world I love so much with Carter and Craig. And I’ve been a fan of Isaac, Elizabeth, and Hilary from afar – and am thrilled to now get a front-row seat to their talent. I feel so lucky to be a part of this,” said Fryman.

“We’d heard so many wonderful things about Pam Fryman over the years without ever crossing paths that we started to wonder if she was real,” commented writers Aptaker and Berger. “Turns out, not only is she real, she’s just as tremendously talented and kind as everyone says. We feel so lucky to have Pam onboard and can’t wait to bring How I Met Your Father to life together.”

Executive producers Bays and Thomas added: “Pam Fryman is the kind of talent and human being you wish everyone could get a chance to work with — but then again, you also kinda want her all to yourself. Having Pam as part of this extension of the HIMY-verse, by way of Isaac and Elizabeth, is the perfect combination of both! We couldn’t imagine embarking on this next chapter without her.”

The Plot, Courtesy of Hulu:

In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

‘Interview with the Vampire’ Series Greenlit by AMC Networks

Interview with the Vampire Book Cover

Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire is going to be adapted into a new series by AMC Networks. The network’s given the green light to a new series inspired by the bestselling novel and is targeting a 2022 premiere on AMC+ and AMC.

AMC’s ordered an eight-episode first season with Rolin Jones (Perry Mason) on board as creator, showrunner, and executive producer.

“In 1973, a grieving mother and extraordinary writer began what would become the finest Vampire novel ever written (all respects to Mr. Stoker),” said Rolin Jones. “Nearly fifty years later we know what’s expected of us. We know how much this book and the ones that follow mean to their massive fan base. We feel you over our shoulders as we tend the Savage Garden. Louis and Lestat are coming out of hiding and we can’t wait to re-unite them with you.”

AMC Networks picked up the rights to Anne Rice’s works, including all entries in The Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches series, in 2020. Interview with the Vampire is the first book to officially be adapted into a series, with Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) overseeing the development of all the Anne Rice titles acquired by AMC.

Rice’s The Lives of the Mayfair Witches and The Vampire Chronicles book series have sold 150+ million copies across the globe.

“The challenge of adapting for television the groundbreaking and immensely compelling work of Anne Rice is both intimidating and exhilarating,” stated Johnson. “Having previously produced films from such singular works, I recognize both the responsibility and the obligation we owe the material. I strongly believe that with AMC and Rolin Jones we are equipped to meet this challenge and to thrill and entertain both the loyal Anne Rice fan and the viewer who is just now discovering her work.”

Interview with the Vampire will be executive produced by Mark Johnson and has Anne Rice and Christoper Rice involved as non-writing executive producers.

“This is a day we have been looking forward to since we acquired this legendary Anne Rice collection a little more than a year ago,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “This story already has millions of fans in the U.S. and around the world, we can’t wait to share this new interpretation of the classic brought to life by Rolin and Mark, as we continue to work on developing the entire collection. With The Walking Dead, this Anne Rice collection and our majority stake in Agatha Christie Limited through our own Acorn TV, we are proud to have the stewardship of three unique, fan-forward and beloved franchises and universes, which we are only just beginning to explore. We are also thrilled to have Mark, a world-class producer we have previously worked with on iconic series like Breaking Bad, Rectify, Halt and Catch Fire, and Better Call Saul on board at the helm of our efforts to develop an entire Anne Rice universe, with significant aspirations for these beloved stories and characters.”

‘Candyman’ Trailer: People Just Can’t Refrain From Saying His Name

Writer/director Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) and writer/producer Jordan Peele (Get Out) revive the Candyman franchise with a new adaptation of the original 1992 film, written by Bernard Rose, and the short story by Clive Barker. Universal’s just released a creepy official trailer in which pretty much everyone’s guilty of repeatedly saying “Candyman” – despite the fact you’re never supposed to utter his name.

The cast includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen), Teyonah Parris (If Beale Street Could Talk), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Generation), and Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead). Win Rosenfeld co-wrote the screenplay and serves as a producer along with Peele and Ian Cooper. David Kern, Aaron L. Gilbert, and Jason Cloth executive produce.

Universal Pictures will unleash Candyman in theaters on August 27, 2021.

The Plot, Courtesy of Universal Pictures:

For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Abdul-Mateen II) and his partner, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Parris), move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials.

With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini-Green old-timer (Domingo) exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.

“The series follows the vacations of various hotel guests over the span of a week as they relax and rejuvenate in paradise. But with each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travelers, the hotel’s cheerful employees and the idyllic locale itself.

Among the employees at The White Lotus are the fastidious resort manager Armond (Bartlett), who, after a sudden trauma, begins a dramatic downward spiral – and the down-to-earth spa manager, Belinda (Rothwell) who gets taken on an emotional roller coaster ride by a needy guest. The vacationers include the Mossbacher family – Nicole (Britton), a successful type-A exec, who can’t help but treat her family like disobedient employees; her husband, Mark (Zahn), dealing with both an embarrassing health crisis and a terminal inferiority complex; their teenaged son, Quinn (Hechinger), a socially awkward gamer, experiencing the wonder of nature for the very first time; their daughter, Olivia (Sweeney), and her friend, Paula (O’Grady), sharp-tongued college sophomores who cast a sardonic eye on the lifestyles and belief systems of everyone around them.

The handsome, entitled Shane Patton (Lacy) is here with his beautiful bride, Rachel (Daddario). Shane and Rachel are in the throes of young love, but as they get to know each other better in this new, intimate environment, clouds of doubt appear – and by the time Shane’s intrusive mother, Kitty (Shannon) surprises them with an unwelcome visit, their fairytale honeymoon has begun to unravel. And finally, there is Tanya McQuoid (Coolidge), a wealthy, unstable woman, recovering from the death of her mother, traveling alone to the hotel, looking for love and in desperate need of a massage.”

Netflix has set a Thursday, September 2, 2021 premiere date.

The cast announcement included details on who each actor will be voicing as well as an official Q-Force synopsis:

Steve Maryweather, AKA Agent Mary, was once the Golden Boy of the American Intelligence Agency (AIA), until he came out as gay. Unable to fire him, the Agency sent him off to West Hollywood, to disappear into obscurity. Instead, he assembled a misfit squad of LGBTQ+ geniuses. Joining forces with the expert mechanic Deb, master of drag and disguise Twink, and hacker Stat, together they’re Q-Force.

But, after a decade of waiting for their first official mission from The AIA, Mary becomes hell-bent on proving himself to the Agency that turned its back on him, and decides to go rogue with Q-Force. After finding their own case, and solving it on their own terms, they get the reluctant approval of The AIA, and are officially upgraded to Active Secret Agents in the field. But, that approval comes with one major caveat– they must put up with a new member of the squad: straight-guy Agent Buck.

The Voice Cast (Cast pronouns match character pronouns)

  • Sean Hayes (he/him/his) is Agent Steve Maryweather. As the leader of Q-Force, Agent Mary is a gifted agent for the American Intelligence Agency. Once pushed aside for being openly gay, now he has everything to prove and puts his team’s success above all else.
