Arrow Season 8: Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy Interviews

Are you ready to bid farewell to The CW’s Arrow? The comic book-inspired series that launched the network into the world of costumed superheroes will kick off its final season on October 15, 2019.

The Arrow cast made one final stop at the San Diego Comic-Con in support of the series at the heart of The CW’s Arrow-verse. Katie Cassidy (“Laurel Lance” / “Black Siren”) and Juliana Harkavy (“Dinah Drake” / “Black Canary”) joined their fellow Arrow stars to discuss where we pick up with their characters going into season eight.

Arrow will air in the Tuesdays at 9pm ET/PT timeslot immediately following episodes of The Flash.

How is Laurel and which Laurel are we now?

Katie Cassidy: “I know. I’m still trying to figure that out. We are as if Laurel never died. So, she still went through everything she went through. She’s still got a little edgy sassiness because she’s gone through a lot of sh*t. So that’s the version that you’re seeing. I’ve also got a new costume. It is so dope; it’s so cool. […] Out of all the costumes it’s fantastic.

Also, I’m directing episode 803. I’m really excited. I went through the WB directors’ workshop over hiatus and I learned so much. I feel…I shouldn’t say overly prepared…but I definitely feel ready. I’m really excited because these actors are so good and so for my first time directing, I’m so lucky. I have great people who I know and love and to just be able to work with them is just going to be awesome.”

What’s on your Laurel bucket list?

Katie Cassidy: “I’m in denial. I think I should get to do the salmon ladder. I think Caity Lotz is the only girl who’s done it. It’s this swinging thing and a technique you have to get down. I used to be a real competitive gymnast. […] I was like, ‘Why can’t you just write me in so I can try it?’ They said, ‘Well, can you do it?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know. Maybe…’

So, could you imagine if this whole time I had never tried it and the first time I do I’m like, ‘Do ta do ta do.’ We’ll see. It could be a disaster. It would be cool though if I could do it.”

What do you hope is the show’s legacy?

Katie Cassidy: “I mean, I think it’s everything we’ve been saying about the theme. Someone asked me what is it that you want fans to walk away remembering and it is that you – I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s true – you have a city of heroes and that’s who we want to be and I feel like who we have been to our fans.

There’s so many people who’ve come up to me and other cast members and they say, ‘Thank you. This show has saved my life,’ whether it be addiction or something else. ‘I was in a really bad place.’ And it’s stuff like that, just being able to inspire and let people know you have people to look up to. Even though we’re playing characters who are superheroes, I like to think we try and do a good job of being a good influence to our fans.”

Arrow’s ending but is there a chance Laurel will show up on a different show in the Arrow-verse, like Legends of Tomorrow? (Note: the interview took place before the news broke that a possible female-driven spin-off is being discussed.)

Katie Cassidy: “I would love that because I love Caity. Caity Lotz is one of my closest friends. She was my roommate in Vancouver for a while. This season we’re in the same building and her apartment is right below mine. We go down to each other’s rooms; we watch movies together. She actually did the director’s program as well. It’s been cool to bounce ideas off of her. She’s very creative. She’s got great ideas.”

Will the Canary get to come out and play during “Crisis”?

Juliana Harkavy: “Oh god, I hope so. I think so but I’m trying not to get my expectations too high.”

Where do we pick up with her at the start of the season?

Juliana Harkavy: “The very start of the season is a bit of a departure. We’re doing something a little bit different. It’s something different and unexpected so I’m very excited to see what people think. At the beginning of the season she’s still the police captain. She’s also still trying to figure out where to find her footing when her team is falling apart in a sense. But it’s going to be a little bit of a twist on what we normally see.”

Do you feel more grounded within your role as you start the season or is it still finding the footing once again?

Juliana Harkavy: “That’s such an interesting question. I think every time we start the season it’s like the first day of school all over again. I’m nervous and I’m finding my footing. (Laughing) I’m like, ‘I forgot how to act!’ But that’s sort of the beauty of the process. You trip over everything and then you find it.”

What’s on your bucket list for Dinah?

Juliana Harkavy: “I’ve been thinking about that. Because we only get the scripts one week at a time, I don’t know where she ends the entire series. But, I just hope that she… She’s a character who’s always carried so much. She’s had a lot of things in her past, so I hope she finds some kind of resolve. Like, she finds her direction and she finds herself. She’s going back and forth, ‘Am I a vigilante? Am I a police captain?’ So, I would just like to see her land on her feet and be like this is what I am so that when we take her to the next place, she’s really strong in herself.”

Are you happy with how Dinah’s progressed over the seasons because she’s come so far?

Juliana Harkavy: “Yeah, I am. Especially the future stuff has been so interesting because it’s given us such opportunity to really do rich work as actors. To just jump 20 years in the future, you can fill in whatever you want to in the middle for the most part. It’s been really rewarding so I really am grateful to our writers and our producers for the storyline they’ve given her. I think it’s been really cool and interesting.”

We saw Oliver get pulled away at the end of last season. How is that directly affecting Dinah with the Green Arrow not being there?

Juliana Harkavy: “I think Dinah feels a sense of she has to step up now. I think she feels like who’s left and what can we do? Because the hierarchy of the team is important and our leader is gone, she definitely – also Dinah being Dinah – she feels the need to sort of step up to that position. Not that she wants to be in charge, but who will? Because someone needs to take care of the team.”

It sounds like the show starts off a little emotional. What is the tone for Dinah during this time?

Juliana Harkavy: “Ohhh, I love that. I think she’s exploring. I think she’s exploring, and I think that her tone is one of sort of searching and openness. Because a lot of things are happening that she… When Dinah first comes on the show and says something about I saw this and that, and Diggle’s like, ‘Well, we’ve dealt with aliens,’ and she’s like, ‘Aliens?!’ There’s all these things in the universe that she has no idea about and she’s going to discover more and more of them.”

What do you hope the show’s legacy will be?

Juliana Harkavy: “Oh wow… I hope it makes people want to be better people. I hope it makes people want to be just and make the right choices. Even if they don’t make the right choices, surround themselves with the right people who can put them in that direction. That’s very important.”

As the trial gets underway, Bull focuses on selecting jurors whose belief systems allow them to see his client as a dreamer who never meant criminal intent.

Bull Series Details, Courtesy of CBS:

Bull stars Michael Weatherly as Dr. Jason Bull in a drama inspired by the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw, the founder of one of the most prolific trial-consulting firms of all time. Mayans M.C. Season 2 Episode 4 Recap: “Lahun Chan”

Mayans M.C. Season 2 Episode 4
JD Pardo as EZ Reyes in ‘Mayans M.C.’ season 2 episode 4 (Photo by Prashant Gupta/FX)

FX’s Mayans M.C. season two episode three ended with EZ and Angel surprising Happy when he arrived home from Medina’s funeral. The action in episode four picks up with EZ (JD Pardo) and Angel (Clayton Cardenas) asking Happy if he knows who they are. Happy justifiably assumes someone’s going to die before this encounter ends and doesn’t care about their identities.

With Happy (David Labrava) tied up, EZ and Angel rifle through his drawers looking for anything on their mother. They’re both being careful and wearing gloves, and neither find anything during their search. The next step is to question Happy about what happened nine years ago. EZ lays out the facts. Someone murdered their mother by shooting her in the neck at the family’s butcher shop. He also reveals that he saw the car as it drove away and remembers exactly what it looked like.

EZ followed the vehicle in his truck and eventually saw the driver – Happy – at a construction zone. “I remember every detail of it,” snarls EZ. Happy doesn’t say anything as EZ tells him he knows he killed their mother.

EZ’s done such thorough research that he knows Happy was a gun-for-hire prior to joining SAMCRO. Happy remains silent, even as Angel puts out a lit cigarette on his bare shoulder. All EZ and Angel want is a name from Happy, but he’s not forthcoming.

EZ then surprises his brother by asking if it was Galindo and the cartel who ordered the hit.

With that question now dangling in the wind, EZ’s forced to walk Angel through everything he discovered about their father’s past. He explains he found a lockbox that contained their father’s personal papers. Those papers included their father and mother’s real names and the information that Felipe was a Federale. He also explains in the box were photos of their dad with Miguel Galindo’s father, Jose. That’s why he asked Happy about the cartel’s involvement.

Angel doesn’t take EZ withholding these details until now well, and he attacks his brother. Happy, still tied up, smiles as he watches the brothers beat the crap out of each other.

Meanwhile, the Mayans are heading home when they run into EZ and Angel’s “friends,” the Swole Boys. There are 20 of the wannabes lined up as the club stops for gas and snacks. Bishop and the guys try and figure out what’s up with this club and why they’re in a stare-down. They give Packer, president of the San Bernardino chapter of Sons of Anarchy, a call but he’s out. Coco (Richard Cabral) jokes that maybe they just want to escort them to the border.

The Mayans don’t have the time or energy for this encounter. They consider taking an access road, but Bishop decides they should stick to the highway and stay in front of the situation. The six bikes and the van get back on the road and the Swole Boys immediately follow.

The Swole Boys make their move, taking out Riz (Antonio Jaramillo) and his bike first. He goes down hard which means game on. Three Swole Boys go down, courtesy of the van.

The Mayans then pull over and scare off the remainder of the Swole Boys by firing a few rounds in their direction.

It’s only after the Swole Boys sped away that the Mayans remember Riz is back in the direction the Swole Boys are heading without any backup. They hurry back and Riz is still sprawled out, unconscious. He comes to and doesn’t seem too badly injured.

Packer (Robert Patrick) and some SAMDINO members arrive on the scene to help. Packer reveals the Swole Boys are out of a bunch of muscleheads out of a gym. Packer apologizes this went down in San Bernardino and happily agrees to help Bishop settle the score.

“Let’s go burn down a f**king gym!” says Packer, raring for a fight.

Angel and EZ finally finish beating each other bloody. EZ admits he didn’t think it was his place to divulge their dad’s secrets. Happy’s still tied up but the brothers don’t care as it’s time for another heart-to-heart. Angel believes he was a constant disappointment to their mom and dad and that EZ was their favorite. EZ apologizes, even though it’s not his fault, and Angel confesses there were times he hated the sight of him. He calls himself an idiot, a mistake, and EZ tries to get his brother to understand no one thought that.

Happy picks this moment to pipe up and say, “Poor little Angel. Nobody loved him.”

That prompts the brothers to finally get up off the kitchen floor. They take a good look at Happy’s tattoos and Angel wonders which of the smiley faces is the one marking their mother’s murder. EZ’s not sure and hands Angel a knife, telling him it’s his pick.

Angel uses the knife and slices a chunk of flesh with one of the tattoos out of Happy’s abdomen.

A while later, Happy’s still not divulging any info and the brothers are starting to be concerned someone will come looking for Happy. (Happy’s phone’s been ringing all day.) Neither EZ nor Angel expected Happy to hold out so long; their plan, if you can call it that, is definitely not working.

Angel suggests they kill him and make it look like a break-in. EZ’s frustrated and doesn’t want to take Happy out until they know why their mother was targeted. Angel decides they should attempt to get Happy to talk one more time and if he doesn’t break, then they’ll shoot him.

EZ tells Happy he doesn’t want to kill him, but they will if Happy doesn’t say who ordered the hit. Happy’s dog’s been barking this whole time but his barking grows more frantic as Angel rams his gun barrel into the open wound on Happy’s abdomen.

Angel can’t take the barking anymore and heads over to shoot the dog. That breaks Happy. He screams, “No!” before Angel can fire. Angel and EZ realize they finally have bargaining power. Angel threatens to torture the dog slowly if Happy doesn’t talk. (As a dog lover I’m finding this scene extremely difficult to watch.)

After hours of remaining silent, Happy finally agrees to talk in order to save his dog. (I’m having mixed emotions about this. On the one hand, Happy obviously loves his dog above all else. So, yay! On the other hand, he’s a ruthless murderer.)

Angel earns back a little of the respect he lost for threatening a dog’s life by providing the hungry animal with food and fresh water.

Upon Happy’s instructions, EZ retrieves a folder that contains information on their mother. It includes her personal information and movements. Happy tells them to look at the next page which it turns out is all about Felipe’s locations throughout a typical day.

“I f**ked up. I was supposed to kill both of them,” says Happy.

Happy then explains the job came in through Packer. He suggests they talk to Packer because will have kept records. Still, even if Packer has paperwork it won’t include the name of the person who ordered the hits.

EZ and Angel demand to know how their mother’s murder went down. Happy describes the events matter of factly and reveals their mother wasn’t surprised. She knew it was coming. Happy recalls he shot her when he heard cars pulling up. He then stuck around by the border to see if they wanted him to kill Felipe. He assumed the order was coming from one of the cartels.

Happy thought EZ had been sent by a cartel to kill him for not completing the job. He got spooked, gave up being a hired gun, and joined SAMCRO.

“If someone killed my mom, I’d put a bullet between his eyes,” admits Happy.

EZ and Angel discuss Happy’s fate, with EZ landing on the side of setting Happy free. Angel reminds him SAMCRO knows Happy was a hired gun and the club even set up hits. That was business and by EZ and Angel making it personal, they’ve broken the rules. EZ confesses he didn’t think it through. Angel also takes the blame on himself.

Their conversation’s interrupted by someone pounding on Happy’s door. The brothers decide whatever happens, they’ll go down together.

EZ opens the door to let in Howard, a SAMCRO prospect. Howard enters to find Happy on the couch with his dog and Angel relaxing in a nearby chair. Happy lies and says his injuries came from being hit by a logging truck after he left the funeral. He explains EZ and Angel saved him when they found him sprawled out in the dirt.

Howard buys the story and asks if he can do anything. Happy tells him to pick up the dog poop in his yard.

After Howard heads outside, Happy tells EZ and Angel, “I’ll get what I can from Packer. After that, we’re clean.” EZ and Angel leave without responding, although Angel does give him a death stare on his way out.

Meanwhile, SAMCRO and Mayans arrive at the Swole Boys’ gym/headquarters. The steroid-taking wannabes act tough but are playing way out of their league. Bishop confronts the leader and finally understands that EZ and Angel set off this mess. Still, Riz needs retribution for a busted bike and bruised-up body. He shoots one of the Boys in the leg, calling it even.

Bishop apologizes to Packer for stirring things up in San Bernardino. Packer admits he should have paid closer attention to this group in his own backyard. Bishop promises back-up whenever Packer needs it.

Bishop sends Coco off to find Angel.

Mayans M.C. Season 2 Episode 4
Danny Pino as Miguel Galindo and Sarah Bolger as Emily Thomas in ‘Mayans M.C.’ season 2 episode 4 (Photo by Prashant Gupta/FX)

Catching up with the Galindos, Emily (Sarah Bolger) is busy working on making her bid more competitive, thanks to the inside information she received from Ileana. She consults with Miguel (Danny Pino), but it’s really Emily’s baby at this point. He’s got to do something for Potter so she agrees to take his mom to her doctor’s appointment, promising she’ll make sure Dita doesn’t stray.

Speaking of Dita (Ada Maris), she calls Felipe and asks that he meet her at 1pm to talk.

Emily drops off the finished bid at the county office and then delivers Dita to her doctor’s appointment. Nestor’s told to stay and watch the exits so that Dita doesn’t wander off again.

The doctor attempts to introduce herself to Dita, but Dita’s having none of it. She gives the woman $2,000 in cash and assures her she’ll bring her the same every week. The doctor only needs to say Dita is making progress and their sessions are going well. When the doctor refuses to play along, Dita threatens to have her reputation ruined. Dita will tell Miguel the doctor’s a quack and her “cushy little tell me your feelings scam” will be over.

Dita sneaks out to the top floor of the building and meets with Felipe (Edward James Olmos). Felipe informs Dita that Marcus paid him a visit, and she confesses her family won’t let her out alone because they believe she’ll harm herself. She was home alone when the house burned to the ground and because she didn’t have anything left, she ignored the evacuation order. She stayed in the wine cellar until a firefighter rescued her.

She now believes she was saved because there are things she needs to do. And then Dita shares a huge secret…Miguel is Felipe’s son. No one else knows and she’ll never tell another soul. Their talk ends when her phone indicates the session downstairs with the doctor has ended.

Dita tells Emily she believes the doctor can help her. As they’re driving away, Emily spots Felipe’s truck parked around the corner.

Later that evening, Emily sneaks into Dita’s room and goes through her drawers. She discovers the old photo of Felipe.

Miguel and Marcus (Emilio Rivera) pick up Adelita (Carla Baratta) for a meeting with Paloma. Miguel’s not sure how much Potter knows about Adelita and Paloma’s relationship. He believes Potter’s going after Paloma only because she’s a more visible target at this point.

Adelita wonders how Miguel’s holding up, juggling both worlds. Miguel admits he’s actually loving being able to screw the DOJ while also doing something good for those in need in Mexico.

As Miguel and Adelita head toward the meeting, they’re unaware the mercs have placed a tracking device on the vehicle and are following their movements. When Miguel’s car arrives in the small town for the meeting, the mercs aren’t far behind.

Paloma hasn’t arrived at the meeting spot as the mercs race up. Adelita makes the quick decision to act as if Miguel and his men tracked her to this town.

Adelita takes a gun and enters a nearby store, firing through the window toward Miguel and his men. The mercs hustle to the scene as the shots ring out. Marcus and another man run toward the store with Miguel’s acting as if they’re covering him.

Miguel tells the mercs he got a tip Adelita was holed up in this town. Marcus exits the store, holding tight to Adelita, gun pointed at her head. The mercs put their guns down and take custody of Adelita. She plays the part well, spitting and cursing at Miguel.

After the mercs haul her away, Miguel slams his fist into a building in rage and frustration.

Camila Mendes Interview: Riverdale Season 4 and Varchie

The CW’s Riverdale star Camila Mendes says the core four will be spending a lot of time together in season four and that college will be front and center on Veronica’s mind. College…and Archie, of course.

During our interview at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Camila Mendes also teased a musical episode and a huge dance number.

Riverdale season four will premiere on October 9, 2019 at 8pm ET/PT.

How is Veronica’s relationship with her parents in season four?

Camila Mendes: “Obviously, both of her parents are in prison. She put Hiram in prison, so she wanted him to be there. I don’t think she wanted her mom to be there. But Hiram has a vengeance and he’s definitely causing hell in her life and reacting to the fact that she put him there. So, there’s definitely some conflict between Veronica and her parents.

Smithers is her legal guardian, but mostly the house is unsupervised which means anyone can come over. Sleepovers!”

Speaking of that, last season Varchie went through a lot of ups and downs but ultimately came together in the end. Are we going to see a more solid Varchie this season?

Camila Mendes: “I think so. […] They’re going strong and pretty solid. I feel like after all the turmoil they went through in season three, it would be really annoying if they had more of that in season four. You’d be like, ‘Come on, guys! Make up your mind!’”

What is she focusing on in season four?

Camila Mendes: “Veronica is focusing on applying for colleges and dealing with the repercussions of her father’s vengeance and the things that he does, which I can’t elaborate on. And, also, there is a new principal at Riverdale High. Mr. Weatherby is off with The Farm, I believe. So, there’s Mr. Honey. Mr. Honey comes in and he’s very strict. He’s kind of trying to reform Riverdale High and instilling all these rules. So, Veronica’s definitely going to butt heads with him as well. I think every student will.”

Can we hope for another musical episode?

Camila Mendes: (Laughing) “100%.”

If you could choose which musical it would be, what would you pick?

Camila Mendes:Sweeney Todd. I love Sweeney Todd so much. I would love to do Sweeney Todd. I don’t know who Veronica would play in that. I feel like Cheryl would probably be Johanna.”

Mrs. Lovett?

Camila Mendes: “Betty would be Mrs. Lovett, maybe. Or Johanna. I can’t see Veronica being Mrs. Lovett either. Veronica needs to be a fiercer character.”

What are Veronica’s college plans?

Camila Mendes: “I know she’s looking at Harvard. But because of the trouble that Hiram’s causing in Veronica’s life, it’s going to make getting into Harvard maybe harder than she thought.”

Is she interested in studying law?

Camila Mendes: “I think she would study business. But I can see her being a lawyer as well. I think she would be a damn good lawyer.”

Since she’s basically looking after herself, will we see her struggle with the day-to-day stuff?

Camila Mendes: “I almost feel like Veronica’s always been super independent and always looking after herself. I don’t think that really changes this season.

Honestly, this season feels like we’re really diving into senior year. There’s going to be more of the core four together, more of the whole gang together, getting to see some more storylines from Kevin and Reggie. I think we’re going to be exploring more of the dynamics between characters because it’s our last year in high school. I think that’s going to feel… I think if we were to go on and do a season five, then what would that look like? So, I think we’re going to really relish high school. Like, let’s really live in this high school world before it’s done.”

Is there anything in particular school-wise you want to see?

Camila Mendes: “The college thing is actually something I’ve always wanted to see. I always wanted to see what the characters would grow up to become, what they pursue in their lives. And also, the show couldn’t continue if they all went off to different schools, right? So somehow they’re all going to end up at Riverdale University.”

Jughead will be attending a different high school for his senior year. Will Veronica have much interaction with him?

Camila Mendes: “Yeah, there definitely is. I think we’re going to see more interaction between those two characters.

Jughead’s going to this new prep school and that was Veronica’s life. Those are the types of people she’s familiar with and she knows that world. I think in a way she’s trying to protect Jughead from those people and what they can be like.”

What about Veronica the businesswoman this season?

Camila Mendes: “She’s still running her business. And I think I can say we have fun dance number, a really exciting dance number at the end of episode two. […] It’s like three minutes of insane dancing. It’s a jazzy song and it’s like sexy and fun. It’s a really famous song and you guys are going to love it!”

Katie McGrath and Andrea Brooks Interview: Supergirl Season 5

The CW’s Supergirl returns for its fifth season on Sunday, October 6, 2019, airing at 9pm ET/PT immediately after primetime newcomer Batwoman. Last season was an emotional rollercoaster for the key Supergirl characters, and season five is certain to be just as much of a twisted journey for Kara Danvers and her friends.

Katie McGrath (“Lena Luthor”) and Andrea Brooks (“Eve Teschmacher”) were paired up at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con to discuss the new season of the popular comic book-inspired superhero series. They kept the discussion spoiler-free, and in fact McGrath revealed not even her mother can get juicy Supergirl spoilers out of her although she does try.

Hello, Miss Teschmacher!

Katie McGrath: (Laughing) “You’ve been wanting to do that all morning, haven’t you?”

Andrea Brooks: “Sometimes I get it on the street and every time I’m like (reacting in shock and straightening up). It’s an automatic response at this point.”

Katie McGrath: “The day he did it…because he didn’t do it full volume until he was in the take and it was like, ‘I’m going to break character, break character! This is the coolest thing ever!’”

Andrea Brooks: “And I was waiting behind and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! I have a gun.’”

Katie McGrath: “And you’re going to kill me!”

Andrea Brooks: “It’s very hard to point a gun at your beautiful face. I did not like it.”

Katie McGrath: “I was really upset when you were filming that scene. I was like genuinely crushed.”

Andrea Brooks: “That was a hard day.”

Katie McGrath: “She’s so angelic-looking and then she puts a revolver in your face and you’re like, ‘This is not fair.’”

Andrea Brooks: “Sorry!”

You were really affected by it?

Katie McGrath: “I was, honestly. I was, really. Between that and finding out my brother that I trusted – it was a heavy day.”

Andrea Brooks: “That was a very heavy day.”

Katie McGrath: “It was.”

Andrea Brooks: “And on the reverse I asked to not hold it. Do you remember? I’m like, ‘I’ll put it to your face if you want but I really don’t want to. Do you need it?’ I was being very selfish. Like, ‘I don’t want to.’”

From where you ended season four and going into season five, what’s your sense of where Eve Teschmacher and Lena Luthor are now and where, as people, they’re going?

Katie McGrath: “I think for my character you’re going to see what it means for somebody when everything they believed has been taken away. It’s kind of like getting the rug pulled out from under you. Everything that was solid in her life that she was holding onto, especially as season four went on and things started being taken away from her and she found out things, she started holding on more and more to the things she thought were real and what does that mean when their whole world is emotionally destroyed?

We’re not dealing with the biggest time jump between season four and season five; it’s only a month. So, where does somebody put their energy when they’ve been kind of emotionally destroyed? And for Lena what she’s doing is that’s never going to happen again, but the problem is humanity’s broken. I mean, listen. Luthors don’t have small plans, okay? Lena’s decided she’s going to fix humanity and everything’s going to be fine. That’s how she’ll never get hurt again. We’ve got to think big. (Laughing) That’s how we’re going.

So, I think for her that’s how she is. It’s how she deals with being so destroyed and how does she move forward from that. What is the way to stand back up and go on? It’s hard. You got knocked down and you’ve got to move forward.”

Andrea Brooks: “I think Eve is an interesting puzzle and the puzzle has just been smashed to pieces and they’ve been scattered all over the universe at this point. Goodness. I always say Eve is an enigma. You never know what you’re going to get with her, and I do love that she’s in the most vulnerable position right now.

We know that Leviathan has been affiliated with her for a very long time, and then Lex Luthor. The fun in that is where are her alliances? Who is she as a person? Where is she going? She has no idea. I think being able to deep dive into that and explore it further is going to be really fun.”

Do you have any idea about the answers to those questions? Do they tell you a lot about what’s going on in the upcoming season?

Andrea Brooks: “They give us a general idea, but luckily not in too much detail. Good for situations like this.”

Katie McGrath: “The less you know is generally better. Especially because people so want to know the answer. My mom is always ringing me up for spoilers and I’m like, ‘No, mom, you don’t want them. You’ll be disappointed if I give them to you.’ This is why I don’t read that far ahead.”

Andrea Brooks: “And you don’t want to focus on the end result. You need to focus on what’s in front of you, what your character’s going through in that exact moment. I don’t want to know the future. I don’t want to know too far ahead.”

Katie McGrath: “You don’t want to spoil anyone else’s experience as well. You know, when we get scripts and we read them, then we’ll do a group chat and there’s always somebody on group chat like, ‘Have you gotten to this?! Have you gotten to that?’ You want everyone else to figure it out at the same time.”

Andrea Brooks: “I don’t like to know too much about everyone else’s character choices or their storylines because if I confront another character, I want to approach it from an honest position – from Eve’s honest, authentic self. I don’t want to know their answers. I do like to protect myself and stay in a little bit of a bubble when it comes to storylines.”

Katie McGrath: “And TV’s very different from movies. When you do a movie, you get the first script and you know your character’s arc. You can point it and plot it through because you know the start, the beginning, the end. With TV, you only have one script to work on – and we do 20 episodes. There’s no way you’re going to know. You get a general character arc but sometimes that can change.”

Andrea Brooks: “It does, yeah.”

Katie McGrath: “So unless you see it in print, it’s hard. You’re told not to rely on that because it might move or something else like that. You try to rely on what you have in front of you.”

Andrea Brooks: “It’s more like real life. You just treat it as it comes. And it’s fun, the spontaneity.”

So, your own mother can’t get spoilers?

Katie McGrath: “No! And lord knows she tries. She’s going to be watching this and she’s going to be sitting there saying, ‘Damn right, Katie. I gave birth to you and I get nothing!’ Shame on me. Bad daughter!”
