Netflix just announced major casting news for their new series, Ginny & Georgia. The series is described as a mother/daughter coming of age drama and has The Exorcist‘s Brianne Howey on board to play Georgia. Newcomer Antonia Gentry (Candy Jar) has been cast in the lead role of Ginny.

In addition to Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, the main cast will include Diesel La Torraca (Little Monsters), Jennifer Robertson (Schitt’s Creek), Felix Mallard (Happy Together), Sara Waisglass (Degrassi: Next Class), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights), and Raymond Ablack (Narcos).

The casting news comes as filming is getting underway in Toronto, Canada.

Season one will consist of 10 one-hour episodes, according to Netflix. The streaming service is targeting a 2020 premiere.

Ginny & Georgia was created by Sarah Lampert, writer of season one. Debra J. Fisher (Alias, Criminal Minds, Being Mary Jane) is the showrunner and executive produces with Jeff Tahler, Jenny Daly, Holly Hines, and Daniel March. Anya Adams (GLOW, black-ish) is directing the first two episodes.

Ginny & Georgia Plot Details and Character Descriptions:

Angsty and awkward fifteen-year-old Ginny Miller (Gentry) often feels more mature than her thirty-year-old mother, the irresistible and dynamic Georgia Miller (Howey). After years on the run, Georgia desperately wants to put down roots in picturesque New England and give her family something they’ve never had… a normal life. For Ginny, that means navigating a prestigious school, rising popularity, and complicated love interests. But it’s not all carpool and Kombucha as Georgia’s past threatens her and her family’s new way of life.

  • Brianne Howey will play “Georgia.” Georgia is shrewd, smart manipulative and steely under her charm. She escaped poverty and had her first child, Ginny, at age 15. A firm believer in retribution, Georgia is a survivor, no matter what life throws at her.
  • Antonia Gentry will play “Ginny.” Ginny is a very smart, rebellious, and vulnerable teenager beneath an armor of outspokenness and quick wit. Ginny is the bi-racial daughter of Georgia and not quite sure what to make of their new home in an upscale Massachusetts town.
  • Diesel La Torraca will play “Austin.” Austin is Ginny’s sweet, innocent, perpetually unkempt younger son. He is desperate to hold on to the promise of their new life in Massachusetts.
  • Jennifer Robertson will play “Ellen.” Ellen is a working mom and more grounded than her preppy upscale neighbors. She is the mother of 15-year-old twins Maxine and Marcus, says what she thinks, and lives across the street from new neighbors Georgia and her two children.
  • Felix Mallard will play “Marcus.” Marcus is the edgy, bad boy across the street you shouldn’t have a crush on but do. Maxine’s twin brother, he is intrigued with his new neighbor Ginny.
  • Sara Waisglass will play “Maxine.” Maxine is cool, popular, smart, quirky, confident, and has a huge crush on Georgia. She is impressed with new girl Ginny and immediately befriends her.
  • Scott Porter will play “Mayor Paul Randolph.” Some would call him a young JFK. As Mayor of Wellsbury, Massachusetts, Paul is focused, driven, and recognizes a formidable force in Georgia.
  • Raymond Ablack will play “Joe.” Joe is granola in a manly way, not a man bun way. He owns the local farm to table restaurant, Blue Farm Cafe. And can’t help but notice when Georgia moves to town.

Superstore Season 5: Lauren Ash Interview on Mark Hamill and Dina’s Birds

Please tell me I’m not the only Superstore fan still worried about Dina’s birds! The cast of the hit NBC comedy participated in this year’s San Diego Comic Con and Dina herself – Lauren Ash – hit the red carpet at the Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Bash to talk up season five.

During our short interview on the red carpet, Lauren Ash confirmed she hopes the birds are back in the upcoming season. She also chatted about Dina’s dad and her online campaign to convince Mark Hamill to take on the role.

Season five of Superstore premieres on September 26, 2019.

I still want to know about the birds.

Lauren Ash: “Please!”

Please tell me Dina’s going to rescue them and they will be returned to her house.

Lauren Ash: “Listen, I truly know nothing. We go back, our first day shooting is August 5th and we have not received a script yet. The actors are the last to know everything, but my hope is that we will get at least one of those birds back alive. That’s my hope.”

You do have a favorite, right?

Lauren Ash: “Squeedledee.”

Why is Squeedledee your favorite?

Lauren Ash: “You would think it’s Pikachu because he’s very aesthetically adorable, but Squeedledee has a special place in my heart. Always will.”

Tell me about the family you guys have formed on this set.

Lauren Ash: “We have been a family from the beginning from the first table read. We all bonded really quickly which is exceptionally rare in television, I think. We’re on a group text. We’re constantly in talks with each other; we’ve gone on trips together. We’ve gone to Vegas. We’ve rented a green Hummer limo together. It’s the best.

I often say that I get to go to work every day and hang out with my buddies and we happen to make a show in the process.”

If you could pitch a whole episode, what would it be about?

Lauren Ash: “Probably Dina just going through so many baseball player boyfriends, just eight to 12 beefy, hulking men. No. Jokes aside, Dina’s dad. I really want to see Dina’s dad this season. I want to meet Dina’s sister, Denise, who is referenced for four full seasons and we have never met her. We know she hates her. So, those are my two wishes for this season and they know that so hopefully they do me well.”

Have they said they might be feeding them in?

Lauren Ash: “They haven’t but I’ve been doing an online push trying to get Mark Hamill to play my dad on the show. He loves the show. He tweeted about the show. I sobbed. And, anyway, so fingers crossed.”

Viceland’s The Devil You Know will be premiering on August 27, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT. The series is written, produced, and directed by Patricia E. Gillespie and marks Viceland’s first serialized true crime show.

Gena Konstantinakos, Michael Kronish, Nomi Ernst Leidner, Abby Lynn Kang Davis, Kevin Iwashina, Rachel Traub, and Preferred Content are the season one executive producers.

Viceland has also set a U.S. premiere date for Terror (not to be confused with AMC’s The Terror). The 2016 docuseries comes from Vice co-founder Suroosh Alvi and will premiere on August 27th at 9pm ET/PT.

In addition to announcing the premiere dates, Viceland released descriptions of both The Devil You Know and Terror.

The Devil You Know Synopsis:

Set in a small suburban community just outside of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the five-episode true crime series The Devil You Know focuses on a local suburban legend, John Lawson, a self-styled Satanist who renamed himself ‘Pazuzu.’ When two missing individuals’ bodies turn up at his house, the rumors of this Charles Manson-like figure whose house was a non-stop parade of sex, drugs, guns and loud music take a darker and more troubling turn.

The series follows every twist around the crime, the mishandled investigation, the legal case as well as the underlying economic inequality inherent in the story. The show features interviews with the journalists who chased the story, authorities, friends and neighbors of ‘Pazuzu’ as well as people close to the victims to try to understand the twisted depths of this story from every angle.”

Terror Details:

“The 2016 series from VICE co-founder Suroosh Alvi will focus in-depth on the origins and impact of the world’s most dangerous terrorist organizations with episodes exploring Al Qaeda in Yemen, Al Shabaab in Somalia, Boko Haram in Nigeria, the Taliban in Pakistan and the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria.

Hosted and narrated by Alvi, Terror is punctuated by his reflections after years of reporting on terrorist groups, radicalization and conflict zones.”
