Netflix released the following description of season two:

From Shondaland and creator Chris Van Dusen, the second season of Bridgerton follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Bailey), the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, as he sets out to find a suitable wife. Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate (Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Chandran) Sharma arrive from India.

When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. Across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate while Penelope (Coughlan) continues to navigate the ton whilst keeping her deepest secret from the people closest to her.

Bridgerton is a romantic, scandalous, and clever series that celebrates the timelessness of enduring friendships, families finding their way, and the search for a love that conquers all.

TBS and truTV Announce Details on ‘Chad’ and ‘The Cube’ Season 2

TBS’s popular comedy series Chad will return for a second season on April 11, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT. The season premiere date announcement was made during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour and included a teaser of what’s in store for the upcoming season.

Chad was created by Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live) who stars, executive produces, and guides the series as co-showrunner along with executive producer Max Searle. The series’ first season ranked as the #1 new scripted cable comedy and features Jake Ryan as Peter, Paul Chahidi as Uncle Hamid, Saba Homayoon as Naz, Ella Mika as Niki, Alexa Loo as Denise, and Thomas Barbusca as Reid.

Sara Malal Rowe joins the cast for the second season.

The TCA panel also included the announcement NBA superstar Dwyane Wade’s unscripted series The Cube has been renewed for a second season. The competition series features contestants confined to “The Cube” while completing physical and mental tasks.

truTV announced they’ve greenlit 101 Places to Party Before You Die, based on the bestseller 101 Places to Get F*cked Up Before You Die. The travel-comedy is targeting a summer 2022 premiere for its eight-episode first season starring Adam Pally (Happy Endings) and Jon Gabrus (Game Over, Man!).

CHAD SEASON 2
Summer break is over and it’s sophomore year for newly elected class president, Chad Amani (Pedrad). In this hilarious second season, Chad deals with a scandal that quickly ends his presidency, has a surprising new love interest, and gets a visit from his tough-as-nails Iranian grandmother – all while continuing to worry about his popularity, and discovering new ways to relate to his Persian cultural roots.

Chad’s epic path to teenage self-realization is not always a straight line–but the support from his family and best friend Peter (Ryan) keep Chad on track, giving him the confidence to help him become who he has always wanted to be – the most American boy in the history of the world.

THE CUBE:

More games, more winners – and more Wade. The Cube follows contestant pairs who must demonstrate skill, nerve and determination as they endure seemingly simple physical and mental tasks – all while confined in ‘The Cube,’ an intimidating glass box with its own mind and attitude, in the hope of winning a major cash prize. Working on their own or as a team, each pair has nine lives to complete seven games that are worth an increasing amount of money as they inch closer to taking home the $250,000 jackpot.

In addition to the Simplify assist and fan-favorite One Shot assist that allows teams the opportunity to call on superstar athlete Wade to take their place inside the Cube, the upcoming season will also feature a third assist for contestants to unlock when they reach the $50,000 game. The third assist called Trial Run is a free practice attempt at a game – no prize for winning, no penalty for losing – but the big decision comes afterwards when they must decide whether to walk away or take that game on for real.

‘Killing Eve’ Season 4: Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh Discuss the Final Season

Killing Eve Season 4

BBC America’s critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning drama Killing Eve is, sadly, coming to an end with the upcoming fourth season. Audiences have waited nearly two years for the series to return and for one last opportunity to watch Jodie Comer as Villanelle and Sandra Oh as Eve Polastri square off.

The final Killing Eve Television Critics Association press tour appearance featured series stars Jodie Comer, Sandra Oh, and Fiona Shaw. Season four’s lead writer/executive producer Laura Neal and executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle also participated in the TCA panel that touched on the series’ four-season journey and saying goodbye to these amazing characters.

Jodie Comer said it’s always surprising slipping back into Villanelle’s skin. “You never know what you’re going to get, which is amazing. The show definitely keeps you on your toes and it’s always so exciting getting to sit down with the script and see where it is that we’re headed,” explained Comer. “Sometimes when you start a season, you have a vague idea of where the story’s going to go, but a lot of the time it gets figured out as you go along and it’s very organic in that way. So, it’s always thrilling.”

Sandra Oh has also been surprised about the evolution of Eve. She teased that fans can expect to actually see the greatest amount of change in her character when the show kicks off its fourth season.

“I really wanted to establish that Eve physically, energetically, is very, very much changed. You see her different in the way that she’s clearly gained skills, that she’s not afraid of violence in herself or inflicting it on others, that she’s adapted a lot of – not adapted, but also integrated a lot of elements from Villanelle in either disguises or personas.
I just really wanted that change and that freshness to kind of come in to the fourth season.”

Sandra Oh continued: “Jodie and I were looking at a picture of season one and could not believe those two characters. They’re completely changed. They had a complete – at least for me when I look at Eve – a complete innocence and she just doesn’t have it on her anymore. I was really pleased to be able to evolve the character that way.”

Killing Eve Season 4

Speaking of expectations, season three found Villanelle really delving into her past. Key for Villanelle this season is the question of whether a person can change.

“Can we change? What I loved about what Laura did was we actually see Villanelle now putting that into action. We see her trying. But I think throughout the whole series you really witness each character’s growth. I think there’s a lot of lessons that I think Villanelle learns that I don’t think she’s actually aware of. I think she’s so desperate to change at the beginning and I’m not sure that comes from a truthful place. However, when you see this season in its entirety, you really, truly see just how she’s done so. So that was really, really great to see,” said Comer.

Fiona Shaw doesn’t believe people are capable of change, at least not in her experience. “Things change in their life, but it’s amazing how set people are, I think,” said Shaw, laughing. “But in terms of storytelling you have to have change to see development, and this show has been fantastic for that because I was very happy for Carolyn to sit and come down from a high office and pontificate about something again. The show never let the character settle and I think in that way they are changed, of course, by experience. But in terms of personality, people stay the same.”

Sandra Oh believes personalities stay the same but she thinks it’s possible for people to change for the better.

“I do believe people can change. If they can’t, I just think all is lost,” said Oh. “For me, from personal experience, I just know that it is extremely slow and challenging. I think the innate kind of personality, which I think for both – all three of the characters – their wit, or their danger, or their humor have not really changed. I think that all the three characters’ moral compass has slightly changed.”

Without giving away any spoilers, Jodie Comer said her final shot of the series was also Villanelle’s final scene. “There was some kind of really weird kind of mirror that was happening that was like, Wow, okay…’ It suddenly felt very real,” said Comer. “The wonderful thing about that day was Sandra and I were together so we got to experience that together, which was really special. And the crew were there – a lot of the crew have come back each year. So to have everyone there, it was bittersweet. It was intense. It was a lot. It was overwhelming, for sure.”

“Jodie and I were lucky enough to do actually the last shot of the show together, and it’s too much of a spoiler to tell you where we were and the setting. But it was technically challenging. It was very technically challenging. I was really happy that we were together. I think we were both happy that we were together,” said Oh.

Jodie Comer recalled everyone was kind of wired because they’d been on a week of night shoots.

“Yes, it ended up getting very, very late. So I’d say to kind of sign it off with the majority of our crew, we weren’t all together the very last day but the previous couple days, we were on a certain location that was very, very iconic. And there was this one particular moment where everyone stepped out together to see the same view and it was really fantastic because you just feel, as a company, not only as a cast but all the crew, that you are making something together,” explained Oh.

Oh added: “I was really glad because it was a very challenging shoot this year because of the pandemic. So, I was really glad that we were all able to feel that filmmaking moment. It’s like this is why we do it and we’ve all done it together, and I was happy that we had that, at least for me, the last couple of days.”

‘State of the Union’ – Brendan Gleeson and Patricia Clarkson Talk Season 2

State of the Union Season 2

The second season of SundanceTV’s Emmy Award-winning short-form anthology series State of the Union premieres on Valentine’s Day 2022. Season one focused on the troubled marriage of Tom and Louise, played by Chris O’Dowd and Rosamund Pike. Season two stars Brendan Gleeson and Patricia Clarkson as Scott and Ellen, another married couple who’ve turned to counseling to save their relationship.

Per the official synopsis: “Liberal campaigning Ellen (Clarkson) drags her traditional, self-made husband Scott (Gleeson) out of his comfort zone and into a hipster Connecticut coffee shop, where they have ten minutes before their marriage counseling session to drink a coffee, gather their thoughts and argue about everything from Quakerism to pronouns. Amongst the bickering they also discuss betrayals from their past, how they’re changing as people, and what the future of their relationship might look like in a changing world.”

State of the Union creator, executive producer, and writer Nick Hornby joined director and executive producer Stephen Frears along with stars Brendan Gleeson, Patricia Clarkson, and Esco Jouléy for the 2022 Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. Despite the fact it was a virtual panel with the participants in different locations, it was evident from their exchanges the cast and producers truly get along and respect each other.

Season two’s 10-minute episodes consist of 10 minutes of real-time conversation. That meant Brendan Gleeson and Patricia Clarkson had to be aware of the speed in which they delivered their dialogue.

“We were summoned to a kind of rapidity by our esteemed director who kept us within limits. But there was a kind of vitality and a drive in the writing anyway that kind of insisted on that. And it was exhilarating,” said Gleeson.

“Yeah – and that’s exactly what it was. We knew these brilliant 10 minutes, we have to make the most of them. We have to cut to the chase. There’s no fat. There’s no wasted time,” said Clarkson. “It took on its own rhythm and Stephen made sure we kept in that rhythm. We love him.”

The dialogue is so raw and genuine that delivering it was occasionally painful as it made Gleeson and Clarkson reflect on their own experiences.

“I think as an actor if you’re going to find truth in the words, and you have found truth in reading them and then you interact with somebody, to explore the truth you have to take part of your own experience and your own soul and kind of embroider it into the fit that you’re kind of portraying,” explained Gleeson. “And so obviously you draw on your own experiences, your own mistakes, your own shortcomings.”

Gleeson added: “And when you get in with somebody like Patricia who’s – I mean, obviously to add subtlety and brilliance and vigor is there, but added to that is, again, the integrity of what you’re trying to do. She obviously has skin in the game, so to speak. That’s where you do enter into a place where there’s a little bit of emerging, and that’s why it becomes a very emotional experience and actors get bad reputations for saying lovely things about each other. And so, yeah, it was you have to delve into your own well and take what you can from it, and then drop it if it’s getting in the way.”

Clarkson agreed that some of the dialogue was tough to deliver. “Yeah, it was very difficult for us. And remember when we would run these lines and we knew some of these scenes and some of these words we had to say were brutal? It’s never easy as an actor, ever. But the beauty of Stephen Frears is he never lets you be indulgent and so it really is about the scene. It is about moving through it and forward, and where the action of the scene (goes).

But the homework that Brendan and I had to do, of course, to play these characters was scar-making,” laughed Clarkson. “I mean, we’re still a little wounded, I think. But it was worth all of it and it’s the path we chose as actors. It’s just what we do and it’s something I’d do in a hot minute again.”

State of the Union Season 2
Director Stephen Frears and Esco Jouléy behind the scenes of ‘State of the Union’ season 2 (Photo Credit: Laura Radford / See-Saw Films / Sundance TV)

Season two deals with timely topics that aren’t necessarily related to the couple at the heart of the story’s relationship problems. Gleeson’s Scott has a difficult time understanding gender pronouns, and Gleeson revealed he learned a lot from Esco Jouléy about that subject while filming was underway.

“It wasn’t something that I was overly familiar with in terms of pronouns and all that. And it was very liberating to explore how gender has become such a kind of imprisoning definition,” explained Gleeson. “I think what’s wonderful about the writing for me was that Scott is not without his own curiosities or without his own tolerances, even though he appears to be the very opposite of that. And so I really enjoyed the exploration because I certainly learned from it.”

Nick Hornby confessed he also learned a lot about pronouns while writing season two. “I felt the same as Brendan, that I discovered a lot of things through the writing and then through talking to Esco,” said Hornby. “There was one line that Scott has in the script where he berates himself for getting a pronoun wrong and says, ‘Oh, Scott, you stupid old man.’ And that line came because somebody pointed out to me that I got a pronoun wrong and I said, ‘Oh, Nick, you stupid old man.’ And I thought I’ll just give that straight to Scott.”

“Well, we had quite a few non-binary people on the set, assistants, and so we had to live off-screen what we were living on-screen,” added Clarkson. “And so, it was quite wonderful to all of us in a learning curve in London. So, it was helpful and quite remarkable at times.”

Esco Jouléy’s Jay is the barista who interacts with the couple as they meet up before their counseling sessions. Jouléy, whose preferred pronouns are he/him, believes the reaction to the use of the wrong pronoun has a lot to do with the person’s intention. “If you know someone doesn’t have any ill intention, I’m willing to stand there and be like, this is new. Hey me meeting you is new, too.”

Gleeson credits Jouléy with helping them all get up to speed. “His empathetic nature and his forgiveness of the human race for being human…he never sweated the small stuff,” said Gleeson. “He didn’t get irritated if somebody (erred). His line was, ‘No, I find it really interesting that that’s how you see me.’”

“We all make assumptions about everybody, including myself. I am not excluding myself from any of this,” said Jouléy. “And it’s just amazing how someone can see you, especially if they have no ill intention. You’re like, ‘That’s how you see me? That’s amazing. Rock on.’ And it’s also very interesting because throughout the show Jay is – by opening that door – able to get to know Scott even more. And so, it’s also Jay has to negotiate that too of like, ‘How much am I getting my way from actually just meeting a new person? I also want to be accepted, maybe Scott does too.’”

During the TCA panel Hornby was asked if there’s a difference between writing for men or women. “I know this sounds like a corny answer, but I’m writing for people. And there are so many varieties of people, and there are so many varieties of women, and so many varieties of men,” replied Hornby. “So, you start with the character and, you know, I just walk round and round a character and think about the character, and once I get to that stage, I’m not thinking is this a woman or a man? I’m thinking, is this real to this person? And of course, their gender becomes a part of it.

But surely, as a writer your job is to write about everyone. I know this has become increasingly stressful, this subject. Should I be able to write about women or people of a different sexuality to me or a different race to me? But you’ve just got to hope for the best, observe as much as you can, and get people to read. And I had a reader for Esco’s part as soon as I finished because of course you’re going to make mistakes about certain things.”

Clarkson confirmed she’s an admirer of Nick Hornby’s writing and said she’d take anything he writes for her, any day of the week.

“I’ve never had such a delicious, glorious feast of words. And I think Nick, you write with just this…it’s so fast and funny, and it moves so quickly between the emotional and the poignant and the poetic and then into brilliant comedy. It’s just all in one quick breath sometimes and it’s an actor’s dream. It’ll kill you, but it’s an actor’s dream,” said Clarkson, laughing.
