Deputy Season 1 Episode 12 Photos: Preview of “10-8 Agency”

Fox’s Deputy continues its first season run with episode 12, “10-8 Agency.” Episode 12 is set to air on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT.

Stephen Dorff (“Sheriff Bill Hollister”) leads a cast that includes Brian Van Holt as Cade Ward, Bex Taylor-Klaus as Brianna Bishop, and Shane Paul McGhie as Joseph Harris. Yara Martinez stars as Dr. Paula Reyes and Danielle Moné Truitt is Charlie Minnick.

“10-8 Agency” Plot – Charlie, Joseph and Carter investigate a case that becomes more complicated at every turn, while Bishop and Cade make a connection to a homicide they never expected. Still suffering flashbacks from the hospital takeover, Paula tries to find closure. Meanwhile, Bill’s family strives to humanize him to the constituents of Los Angeles County.

The Deputy Plot, Courtesy of Fox:

Deputy blends the spirit of a classic Western with a modern-day attitude and emotionally driven, visceral storytelling. Featuring an ensemble of ambitious and complicated people who won’t rest until justice is served, DEPUTY brings a gritty authenticity to the modern cop drama.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is one of the largest police forces in the world, but when the elected Sheriff dies, an arcane rule in the county charter, forged back in the Wild West, suddenly thrusts the most unlikely man into the job. That man is Bill Hollister. A fifth-generation lawman, Bill is only interested in justice; his soul wears a white hat. The bad guys don’t stand a chance, but neither do the politicos in the Hall of Justice.

Under Bill’s command is a county-wide crew of LA’s finest, including Deputy Cade Ward, a former Marine stationed in Afghanistan, eight years sober and one of Bill’s few confidantes; Deputy Brianna Bishop, the whip-smart, sarcastic driver in charge of Bill’s security detail; and Deputy Joseph Harris, the son of Bill’s fallen partner.

The dangers associated with the job often lead the police to LA County General Hospital, where Bill buts heads with Dr. Paula Reyes, the hospital’s chief trauma surgeon – and his wife.

Given a job he never wanted, in an unfamiliar sea of politics, Bill quickly learns that doing what is expected and doing what is right are two different things, and that his innate, dogged pursuit of justice is the only skill the job truly requires.”

The Hunt Movie Review

The Hunt
Betty Gilpin as Crystal in ‘The Hunt’ (Photo Credit: Universal Pictures)

I found it shocking that after The Hunt screening I couldn’t decide who will be more offended: liberals or conservatives. The Hunt’s an equal opportunity offender and that’s what makes it so infuriating to both sides of the deep, well-defined divide. Of course, that also means both sides should get a few good chuckles out of the film’s skewering of their political counterparts.

What’s certain is that horror fans of all political persuasions will gleefully celebrate the generous amount of blood, guts, gore, and severed body parts on display in this hard-R violent satire.

Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse’s script pits liberal elitists against diehard Trump conservatives. The liberal side of the story’s populated with rich, smug, and self-righteous members of the political correctness police. The conservatives are represented as hate-filled conspiracy theorists with low IQs who watch Hannity and don’t believe climate change is real but do believe in the deep state.

The sanctimonious liberal elites have zero tolerance for deplorables and use their wealth to kidnap a handful and transport them to a shooting zone. The right-wingers wake from their drug-induced sleep confused as to their whereabouts. They’ve no time to suss out their location or circumstances before the hunt officially begins in earnest.

The characters on both sides are disposable one-dimensional stereotypes with the exception of the leaders of both groups. GLOW’s Betty Gilpin is absolutely terrific as Crystal, a calm, cool, and collected – although also quite possibly psycho – member of the deplorables. Nicknamed Snowball by the elites, Crystal’s analytical approach to the problem at hand places her in a category all her own.

It’s pretty much impossible not to go into the film already solidly backing either the liberal hunters or their right-wing prey. Only Betty Gilpin’s character is able to bridge the divide, thanks to her multi-layered performance. (#TeamSnowball)

This loose remake of 1932’s The Most Dangerous Game delivers its political wallop with trigger words and unmistakable cynicism about the current state of America. The final act takes an unexpected twist that’s too convenient and messy. However, The Hunt redeems that loopy twist in a begrudgingly satisfying way with a scene that would have fit snugly in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill.

* * * *

This Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions release has a legitimate excuse if it doesn’t perform well at the box office. The Hunt was supposed to plop into theaters in 2019 but was pushed back to 2020 in response to mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. Unfortunately, its new release date lands it in theaters at the same time most medical experts are suggesting people stay away from crowded places or public areas where it’s likely the Coronavirus can easily spread. Movie theaters definitely fall into the “enter at your own risk” category as the number of cases of COVID-19 continues to grow at an alarming rate. (It’s too bad drive-ins no longer exist in most cities.)

GRADE: B

MPAA Rating: R for strong bloody violence, and language throughout

Cast: Betty Gilpin, Hilary Swank, Ike Barinholtz, Ethan Suplee, Emma Roberts, Amy Madigan, Justin Hartley, Reed Birney, and Glenn Howerton

Today, John Krasinsky announced A Quiet Place Part II will postpone its theatrical release. The Fast and the Furious franchise also issued a statement this morning announcing they’ll be pushing back the release date of F9 to 2021.

Krasinsky broke the news via social media, tweeting out:

Emails and social media announcements were also made for F9. I just received the following in my inbox:

“To our family of Fast fans everywhere,
We feel all the love and the anticipation you have for the next chapter in our saga.

That’s why it’s especially tough to let you know that we have to move the release date of the film. It’s become clear that it won’t be possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film this May.

We are moving the global release date to April 2021, with North America opening on April 2. While we know there is disappointment in having to wait a little while longer, this move is made with the safety of everyone as our foremost consideration.

Moving will allow our global family to experience our new chapter together. We’ll see you next spring.

    Much love,
    Your Fast Family”

The 25th James Bond film No Time to Die was one of the first movies to delay its release in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. MGM tweeted out the news on March 4th:

“MGM, Universal and Bond producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, announced today that after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace, the release of NO TIME TO DIE will be postponed until November 2020.”

Sony officially announced its moving Peter Rabbit 2 from its scheduled April 3, 2020 release date to August 7th.

Large festivals/conventions including SXSW, Coachella, CinemaCon, Emerald City Comic Con, and E3 have pushed back their dates or canceled for this year. TV series and movies including Mission Impossible, Riverdale, The Amazing Race, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Survivor have all temporarily shut down production. Apple+’s Morning Show joined the list as I’m typing up this article.

“In concert with our dedicated partners at Apple, we have concluded it would be prudent to take a two-week hiatus to assess the situation and ensure the safety of the incredible people who make this show,” stated producer Michael Ellenberg, founder and CEO of MediaRes.

Oscar winner Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson both tested positive for Coronavirus while traveling in Australia. Hanks released the following statement:

With the pandemic affecting millions of people across the globe, these moves are necessary steps in helping to minimalize the further spread of COVID-19. Here at Showbiz Junkies, our thoughts are with everyone affected by this pandemic. Please stay safe, stay healthy, and follow all the instructions offered by legitimate medical experts.

Roswell, New Mexico Season 2: Michael Vlamis Talks Michael’s Love Life and Max’s Death

The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico star Michael Vlamis talked chest hairs, family drama, and Michael’s relationships with Alex and Maria in our interview for season two. Vlamis and his co-stars chatted up the new season at the New York Comic-Con, and during our roundtable interview he teased what’s in store for Michael and his alien siblings.

Roswell, New Mexico returns for season two on March 16, 2020.

How is Michael handling what happened with Max?

Michael Vlamis: “Not well. Not well at all. God, he’s a mess. Lot of fights…lot of booze…lot of nail polish…a lot of chest hair. I keep making that joke but it’s true! There’s so much chest hair this year!”

Why?

Michael Vlamis: “You know I just… When we did the costume fittings in the first season I had my buttons all normal for the pictures and then I had a couple where he let them down. I was like, ‘I just feel like he’d be more open.’ And my one note in the audition was cover up your chest hair a little bit. I was wearing an A-Tee or an A-tank, you know? Both words I know for that you can’t say anymore… Anyway, any tee that anyone in Goodfellas wears. (Laughing) I wore one of those with the jean jacket and they were like, ‘Just cover up the chest hairs.’

I always felt I had to let the chest hairs out! So, before we started shooting season one, I unbuttoned it without telling anybody and got it really low and then went. And then we just had to match that the rest of the year. (Laughing) So, that’s kind of how I weaseled that in there.

But, yeah, he’s an absolute mess this year. It’s really fun to play.”

Who’s he turning to? Is he with Liz more because they’re trying to bring back Max?

Michael Vlamis: “Well at the very beginning, nobody. He’s turned away from everyone at the very beginning. But then, yes, of course they’re trying to bring him back with whatever they can do. So, he’s going to go to the other scientific brain in the group. So, I’ve gotten to do some really cool work with Jeanine (Mason). He’s kind of getting…I’m getting a lot of different scenes with different characters. Michael Guerin’s all over the place this season.”

Roswell New Mexico Season 2 Episode 1

How’s his love life?

Michael Vlamis: “He just can’t be happy, you know? He can’t allow himself to be happy. I don’t think he thinks he deserves it. But he’s spending a lot of time with Alex and Maria in different contexts.

I don’t even know which one’s best for him. Everyone keeps asking which one is best for Michael Guerin. I don’t know. I have no idea. One reminds him of tragedy and one reminds him of a fresh start. So, they’re very different. One’s very heavy; one’s super light. But that doesn’t mean they’re not crisscrossing.

Me and Heather have had some really cool scenes this year – Heather Hemmens who plays Maria. Some scenes I’m really proud of. I’ve just gotten to go to like a deep place this year because that’s where the character is. He’s in a lot of pain.”

How’s his relationship with his sister?

Michael Vlamis: “Even that has gotten strained at times. But that will always be like his rock. That’s like the one person that has always been there for him.”

More so than Max?

Michael Vlamis: “I think he thinks that. I don’t know if that’s true or if that’s the case. But I think he feels that, especially with… I mean, last year Max just grabs his hand and heals him without him even wanting that, you know, or asking for that. It’s little things like that. It’s that brother complex and so I think that’s the case.

I think they were both there for him as much, but I don’t think Michael Guerin sees that.”

And he’s still going to be dealing with the fact that now he’s got a healed hand that he can’t explain.

Michael Vlamis: “Yeah. He’s hiding it. And I think he’s also not just hiding it from everybody, I think he’s hiding it from himself. He did not want that to happen. And it was really nice I got to play the guitar at the end of last season and kind of go back to the old ways, almost, it felt. But it’s not the old ways and he knows that.

I think he’s ashamed almost of that hand being healed, like he didn’t deserve it which is another deep masochistic choice that I’m going with.”

Does his world expand in this coming season?

Michael Vlamis: “Yeah, definitely. It definitely expands. It’s really cool. I’ve been hinted to a storyline that’s developing this season that I’m really excited about. I can’t talk about it but there are new characters coming into play and it does open up the world and give him more to do. But he’s very focused on brother and information about his mom. He wants to find out more about his mom.”

He’ll spend a good deal of time delving into that?

Michael Vlamis: “Yeah, he’s definitely trying to figure out more about his mom. He’s looking for help in all the places that he can. He might find out some stuff he doesn’t want to find out.”

What have been your favorite scenes to film this season?

Michael Vlamis: “My favorite scenes in this season I didn’t think I could do. I read the script and you’re like, ‘I can act this but can I f**king do it? Can I make you believe that I’m doing this right now?’

The writers came up to me after a scene the other day and they were crying. That was a similar thing that happened in the prison scene last year. Those are moments where they know it’s fake – they’re seeing me in front of cameras doing it – and so if I can evoke that emotion through that without the music coming in or the different shots being cut together or the other actor in frame making everything believable on screen, then I’m really, really proud. It’s been like the deep, emotional feelings of loss of a brother that I’ve been trying to honor and make as real as possible this year. That’s been the most fun and also the most difficult.”

‘The Resident’ Season 3 Episode 18 Photos: Preview of “So Long, Dawn Long”

Fox’s popular medical drama The Resident continues with season three episode 18, “So Long, Dawn Long.” Episode 18 will air on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 8pm ET/PT.

The cast of season three includes Matt Czuchry as Dr. Conrad Hawkins, Emily VanCamp as Nicolette “Nic” Nevin, Bruce Greenwood as Dr. Randolph Bell, and Manish Dayal as Dr. Devon Pravesh. Morris Chestnut joins the cast as Dr. Barrett Cain.

“So Long, Dawn Long” Plot – Conrad finds himself caught between his duties as a doctor and his loyalty to Kit when he discovers that her son-in-law may be suffering from a serious disease. While moonlighting at a long-term care facility, Devon and Nic make a shocking discovery about a former patient who fell victim to Cain’s manipulative practices.

Meanwhile, after jumping into a new opportunity as a TV doctor, Bell is left without any surgeries and The Raptor brings him in to help on an important case.

The Season 3 Plot, Courtesy of Fox:

Entering its third season, The Resident continues to rip back the curtain and reveal the truth of what really happens, both good and bad, in hospitals across the country. The provocative medical drama follows a group of doctors at Chastain Memorial Hospital, as they face personal and professional challenges on a daily basis while fighting for their patients.

In season three, Red Rock Mountain Medical has taken over, inserting its own doctors – including new neurosurgeon Dr. Barrett Cain – and nurses into the well-oiled machine that was once Chastain Memorial Hospital, and causing the doctors to fight harder than ever against the corrupting influence of money in healthcare. The hospital is being run like a profit-hungry corporation – reaping huge financial gains, while risking the lives of its patients.

Dr. Randolph Bell is well-aware of the dangerous deal he has made with Red Rock in order to get Chastain out of its financial crisis and, as a result, initially turns a blind eye to the new corporate mantra of profits over patients. It’s not long before Dr. Conrad Hawkins incurs Red Rock’s fury when he confronts the problems head-on, becoming a whistleblower. The good fight he leads could ultimately threaten everything he holds dear, including his ability to practice medicine.

The Justice League of young healthcare providers must unite to fight for and with him, with Nicolette “Nic” Nevins in the lead. Nic attempts to recover from a devastating personal loss by throwing herself into patient care and her work for the uninsured through her clinic.

Dr. Devon Pravesh will find himself rotating out of the ER and gaining experience and power of his own in new positions within the hospital, eventually moving up to a first-year resident. Dr. AJ Austin will continue to bond with his mentee, the exceptionally talented surgeon, Dr. Mina Okafor. She’ll be his support as he navigates a relationship with his complicated biological family, while striving to maintain one with the parents who raised him. Okafor will be faced with a potential new family dynamic of her own, when her best friend, Adaku, who carries the BRCA breast cancer gene, returns pregnant with no father in the picture.

Meanwhile, the power and ruthlessness of new neurosurgeon Dr. Cain takes the hospital by storm. He embodies all the evil that can result when doctors care more for the bottom line than for their patients. Dr. Kitt Voss is the first to realize that his charm hides a medical demon, but standing against him could have serious consequences for her future.
