The Season 1 Plot, Courtesy of CBS:
“Evil is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The series focuses on a skeptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter as they investigate the Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there’s a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work.”

Overall, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood earned four awards, 1917 picked up three, and Joker, Dolemite is My Name, Avengers: Endgame, and Parasite each won two.
On the television side, Succession and Fleabag scored top honors as Best Drama and Best Comedy of 2019.
Hosted by Taye Diggs and voted on by the Critics Choice Association (of which I’m a member), the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards were held on Sunday, January 12, 2020 and aired live on the East Coast on The CW Network (tape-delayed on the West Coast).

NBC’s so pleased with their popular medical drama New Amsterdam that they’ve given the show an extended renewal order. The network just announced New Amsterdam was renewed for three more seasons, ensuring fans will be able to watch the hit primetime drama through the 2022-2023 season.
According to the network, New Amsterdam is currently averaging 9.8 million viewers through season two episode nine.
The season two cast includes Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin, Freema Agyeman as Dr. Helen Sharpe, Janet Montgomery as Dr. Lauren Bloom, Jocko Sims as Dr. Floyd Reynolds, Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor, and Tyler Labine as Dr. Iggy Frome.
The medical drama is produced by Universal Television, Pico Creek Productions, and Mount Moriah. David Schulner, Peter Horton, Michael Slovis, and David Foster serve as executive producers.
Freema Agyeman took to Twitter to express her gratitude to the fans for tuning in. “NOT 1 MORE, NOT 2 MORE, BUT 3 MORE SEASONS????!!!!???!! BLIMEY!!! CONGRATS @nbcnewamsterdam TEAM!!! So proud & pleased! Incredible news! Thank you @NBC!!! And THANK YOU to all who are watching and keeping us in employment!! Big love!!”
The Series Plot:
“Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before.
Not taking ‘no’ for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map.”
The CW’s Legacies returns from its winter break with season two episode nine, “I Couldn’t Have Done This Without You.” Directed by Carl Seaton from a script by Thomas Brandon and Hannah Rosner, episode nine airs January 16, 2020.
Legacies stars Danielle Rose Russell as Hope Mikaelson, Jenny Boyd as Lizzie Saltzman, Kaylee Bryant as Josie Saltzman, and Quincy Fouse as MG. Aria Shahghasemi is Landon Kirby, Peyton Alex Smith is Rafael Waithe, and Matt Davis is Alaric Saltzman.
The “I Couldn’t Have Done This Without You” Plot – THE RETURN OF THE NECROMANCER — Back and ready to wreak havoc, The Necromancer (guest star Ben Geurens) sets his plan for revenge in motion. To mend fences with Josie (Kaylee Bryant), Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) offers to help her learn more about the mora miserium. Elsewhere, Alaric (Davis) enlists Landon’s (Aria Shahghasemi) help to find out if Sebastian (guest star Thomas Doherty) is a threat to the school.
The Season 2 Plot:
Last season, viewers were thrilled to tap into a whole new passion for The Vampire Diaries / The Originals universe, when the third installment in the franchise launched with Legacies. Set in the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted, Legacies told the story of the next generation of supernatural beings as they learn what it means to be special in a world that may never understand. Typically a school for vampires like MG (Fouse), werewolves like Rafael (Smith) and witches like twins Lizzie (Boyd) and Josie Saltzman (Bryant), the kids and their beloved headmaster Dr. Alaric Saltzman (Davis) were stunned to come face to face with a series of monster and creatures they had only ever heard of in myth and lore. A dragon. A gargoyle. The Headless Horseman.
The evil behind the real-life resurrection of these formerly fictional beings proved to have a horrifying connection to the school’s newest student, Landon Kirby (Shahghasemi). This led his first and only love, Hope Mikaelson (Russell), the school’s shining star, to sacrifice her place at the school — and in the world — to protect Landon from a terrible fate.
Season two will show us a world without Hope Mikaelson and all the chaos that goes along with it. All the while, Hope will be trying to find her way back to the school she has learned to call home and the friends she has learned to love like family. It will be filled with new monsters and more romantic and emotional surprises than ever.

“Your orders are to deliver a message calling off tomorrow morning’s attack. If you fail, it will be a massacre,” says General Erinmore (Colin Firth) to two British soldiers on the front during WWI in the dramatic action thriller, 1917.
During the height of battle in WWI, Lance Corporal Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman, Game of Thrones‘ House Lannister) and Lance Corporal Schofield (George MacKay) are given what seems to be an impossible mission: travel alone, deep into enemy territory, to deliver a message to stop 1,600 men from being slaughtered in an attack that’s actually a trap set by the Germans to wipe them out. Corporal Blake has an even deeper reason to care about saving the men from being sent to their deaths; one of the men who could be killed is his brother (played by Richard Madden, Game of Thrones‘ House Stark).
Racing against time, the two soldiers make their way across deserted battlefields and towns trying their best to survive the journey and stop the attack in time to save thousands of lives.
Gritty and suspenseful, 1917 is a powerful film with stunning cinematography, outstanding direction, and two standout performances. Director Sam Mendes filmed the movie using the single-shot technique and it works brilliantly, immersing the audience into the film and making them feel as though they’re right there in the trenches with Corporals Blake and Schofield.
George MacKay delivers an incredible, moving performance as Schofield, Blake’s good friend who wants to help save the 1,600 men, including Blake’s brother, but is terrified of being killed. MacKay’s facial expressions and body language as he travels across enemy territory perfectly convey his fear and dread.
The cinematography is breathtaking. Shot almost completely outside, the scenes of the two soldiers traveling through muddy and blood-soaked trenches, overcast terrain, and the journey through a battle-destroyed town is visually striking. The editing is flawless, making the film feel as though it’s happening in real time.
Thomas Newman’s score is magnificent and helps to heighten the sense of danger that could be lurking in the next trench or in the farmhouse seen in the distance. What John Williams’ score did for the movie Jaws, Newman’s score does for this film.
Compelling, gripping, and unrelenting, 1917 is a masterfully crafted film and a true cinematic triumph. It’s one of the best war films in years and captures the brutality, fear, horror, and heroism in war superbly. It’s also a sincere tribute to those who served in The First World War.
