Ad Astra IMAX Trailer: Brad Pitt is Out of This World

20th Century Fox just released a special IMAX trailer for the sci-fi adventure film, Ad Astra. The new two and a half minute trailer begins with Brad Pitt as Astronaut Roy McBride explaining he’s chosen this profession to honor his father. Next, we see McBride in space taking part in a psychological exam while climbing outside the spacecraft. He promises to remain calm and focused, but the events that unfold next in the latest trailer seem to argue against that statement.

In addition to five-time Oscar nominee (and winner of an Oscar for producing 12 Years a Slave) Brad Pitt, the cast of the space drama includes Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive), Oscar nominee Ruth Negga (Loving), Liv Tyler (Harlots, The Leftovers), and Donald Sutherland (Trust, Measure of a Man).

Ad Astra was written and directed by James Gray (The Lost City of Z, We Own the Night), with Ethan Gross co-writing. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, James Gray, Anthony Katagas, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Arnon Milchan served as producers.

Writer/director James Gray’s behind the scenes team includes director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema, editors John Axelrad and Lee Haugen, production designer Kevin Thompson, and costume designer Albert Wolsky. According to the studio, Gray collaborated with his director of photography to “establish a look for the movie based on Kodak stock images from the Apollo 11 through 17 lunar missions.”

Walt Disney Studios will release the 20th Century Fox production on September 20, 2019.

The Plot:

“Astronaut Roy McBride (Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.”

Praised as “full of life lessons and uplift” (PEOPLE), the collection of 12 songs all written by the young star includes Alaina’s first No. 1 smash, “Road Less Traveled,” the Top 25 hit “Doin’ Fine,” and the deeply personal and inspiring “Three.”

Following the release of “Road Less Traveled,” Alaina has received multiple nominations for the ACM Awards, CMA Awards, CMT Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Radio Disney Awards and Billboard Music Awards, including taking home last year’s ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year Award and CMT Collaborative Video of the Year Award for “What Ifs,” the 4x platinum-selling No. 1 hit with childhood friend Kane Brown. Alaina is one of CMT’s Next Women of Country and she received her very first CMT Music Award for Breakthrough Video of the Year with her No. 1 hit “Road Less Traveled.”

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY – Supermodel, author and entrepreneur Christie Brinkley has appeared on more than 500 magazine covers worldwide. Brinkley is also an actress and recently returned in the Tony® Award-winning revival of the mega-hit musical “Chicago” as Roxie Hart. She has been photographed in six continents and more than 30 countries around the world.

A model for more than 30 years, and 45 years in the beauty industry, Brinkley was discovered by a photographer while studying art in Paris, France. Since then, she has become the first model to ever appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated for three consecutive years, with a fourth special issue cover. As a successful businesswoman, Brinkley has an exclusive line of organic Prosecco called Bellissima, from Treviso, Italy, which is quickly becoming one of the fastest-rising brands of Prosecco across the country.

ALLY BROOKE – For as long as she can remember, Ally Brooke has been on a path to self-discovery. And now, with the singer having endured her share of detours, obstacles and unexpected challenges along the way, she’s finally tapped into her most honest and sincere spirit. “It’s an answered prayer,” says the preternaturally talented pop star who, after breaking out as a member of the multiplatinum pop group Fifth Harmony, signed with Atlantic Records in 2018 and is now preparing to release her solo debut album.

Following years ceding her individual creative spirit to a group’s collective mission, Ally says she’s nothing short of ecstatic to at last paint her own portrait: a rich tapestry decorated with history and culture, passion and commitment. Many first met her as a solo contestant on “The X Factor,” and then as a member of the assembled group Fifth Harmony, but now, central to Ally’s palpable excitement about planting her own artistic flag is wielding artistic control over her future and, more specifically, shaping her signature sound. To that end, the singer spent an intense last year in the studio with some of the music world’s top songwriters and producers, together working tirelessly until she landed on a specific sound and style that moved her.

HANNAH BROWN – Hannah Brown recently wrapped her memorable run as “The Bachelorette” in the show’s milestone 15th season on ABC, which soared to new ratings highs thanks to her genuine personality and dramatic season finale. As a fun country girl who is unapologetically herself, Brown first won over America on Colton Underwood’s season of “The Bachelor.” Now, she is ready to hit the ballroom floor and find a new type of love: dancing.

Brown was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She went on to become Miss Alabama USA in 2018 and used her platform to help others. She became an advocate for those suffering from depression and anxiety, something she battled with during her teenage years.

KARAMO BROWN – Three-time Emmy® Award Winner and culture expert on the Netflix reboot of “Queer Eye,” Karamo Brown is a “sympathetic talk therapist warped inside a life coach and zipped into a fast-fashion bomber jacket…” according to The New Yorker. Lauded for his ease and natural comfort in relating to different types of people, Brown is tasked with making over the hearts and minds of the individuals they help on the show: by helping them to confront and grow beyond the internal and external issues holding them back. His memoir, “Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope,” explores how the challenges in his own life have allowed him to forever transform the lives of those in need.

Karamo’s podcast, “Karamo,” is an in-depth look at life’s thorniest issues where everyday people from around the world can call in and chat with Brown to receive direct advice or share their personal feelings on the everyday situations affecting their lives. The show also includes special interviews with Brown’s celebrity friends who share personal moments from their lives with him. His upcoming children’s book, “I Am Perfectly Designed,” is an empowering ode to modern families, co-authored with his son Jason.

KATE FLANNERY – Actor, comedienne and singer Kate Flannery is best known for her nine seasons as Meredith the drunk on NBC’s “The Office.” She has recently been seen on “Young Sheldon” on CBS and has been heard on Cartoon Network’s “OK K.O.!” and “Steven Universe.” She has guest starred on FOX’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “New Girl,” ABC’s “American Housewife,” Comedy Central’s “Another Period,” Hulu’s “All Night” and the FOX NFL pre-game show on “Riggle’s Picks.”

Flannery was in the Tribeca Film Fest’s “Tenured” and “Slow Learners,” and in the critically acclaimed “4th Man Out” on Netflix. She stars in the HBO short “Emergency Contact,” “How to Get Girls,” “Dial a Prayer” with William H. Macy and the Sundance hit “Cooties” with Elijah Wood. Flannery is currently singing with Jane Lynch in their anti-cabaret act “Two Lost Souls,” where they did a residency at The Carlyle Hotel in New York. She’s toured with Lynch for the past four years playing at the Kennedy Center, Joe’s Pub and in 40 cities over the past two years.

Kate is currently singing with Jane Lynch in their anti-cabaret act, “Two Lost Souls” where they did a residency at The Carlyle Hotel in NY. She’s toured with Jane for the past 4 years playing the Kennedy Center, Joe’s Pub and 40 cities over the past two years. Flannery’s original cult comedy lounge act, “The Lampshades,” plays comedy festivals and Hollywood regularly.

RAY LEWIS – NFL Hall of Famer Ray Lewis’ life has been an amazing journey through extremes – from the impossible odds of a challenging childhood to playing 17 noteworthy years in the National Football League and his induction into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2018. Lewis is widely considered to be one of the most dominant defensive players in the history of the NFL. He led the Baltimore Ravens to victory in Super Bowl XXXV, where he was named Super Bowl MVP, and again in Super Bowl XLVII, in what would be the final game of his career.

The Hall of Famer is only the second player in NFL history to win both the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP awards in the same year (2000). His 13 Pro Bowl selections are tied for the fifth-most in the NFL by any player and the most by a linebacker. He was named AP All-Pro 10 times and NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice (2000 and 2003). Today, Lewis is a New York Times bestselling author for his breakout memoir, “I Feel Like Going On.” He returns this fall for another season as a member of Showtime’s popular “Inside the NFL.”

KEL MITCHELL – Kel Mitchell is a two-time Emmy Award-nominated actor, producer and stand-up comic hailing from the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois. Currently, Mitchell is executive producing and appearing in the new iteration of the beloved Nickelodeon series “All That,” bringing him full circle since he got his big break and won several awards for the original show. “All That” was Nickelodeon’s longest-running live-action series with 171 episodes across 10 seasons from 1994 to 2005. The franchise paved the way for a number of successful spinoffs, including “Kenan & Kel,” “The Amanda Show,” “The Nick Cannon Show” and the feature-length film “Good Burger,” all of which cemented the show’s and Mitchell’s impact on pop culture.

Additionally, Mitchell is the host of the heart-warming TV series “Tails of Valor,” which takes a look at true stories of service animals working to change people’s lives. The show airs on CBS Saturday mornings. He also recently starred as Double G, an impulsive and unpredictable billionaire rapper on “Game Shakers.” Other acting credits include TRU TV’s “Friends of the People,” Cartoon Network’s “Loiter Squad,” TV One’s “Love That Girl,” Disney Channel’s “Liv & Maddie,” as well as Nickelodeon series “Sam & Cat” and “The Thundermans.” Additionally, Mitchell wrote and directed the faith-based, anti-bullying film “She Is Not My Sister,” and also directed several music videos. When he is not acting, writing or directing, Mitchell speaks to youth across the country encouraging them to follow their dreams.

LAMAR ODOM – Lamar Joseph Odom is an American professional basketball player. As a member of the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA), he won NBA championships in 2009 and 2010, and was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011. Odom played on the United States national team, winning a bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics and a gold medal in the 2010 FIBA World Championship (known later as the World Cup).

While married to Khloé Kardashian, Odom made several appearances on the reality television show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” He and Kardashian also had their own reality series, “Khloé & Lamar.” In October 2015, Odom fell into a coma and was hospitalized with life-threatening medical problems. He has since recovered from his health scare and obtained drug treatment. Present-day, Odom feels God kept him on this earth for a reason. He feels it is time to use his story to impact others and is now a professional speaker, traveling the world to inspire others with his breathtaking life story.

SEAN SPICER – Sean Spicer’s political career began long before the former White House press secretary made his mark as one of the most recognized staffers in the Trump administration. Spicer built a decades-long career in Republican politics, witnessing and shaping the inner workings of Washington, D.C., from every vantage point: House of Representatives communicator, heading up incumbent retention at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, assistant U.S. trade representative in George W. Bush’s White House, chief strategist and director of communications at the Republican National Committee, top advisor to presidential campaigns and, of course, White House press secretary.

Spicer made his way up through the ranks and has experience at every level in Washington. Few are as well-equipped as Spicer to pull back the curtain and dissect what’s really happening in the nation’s capital. Since leaving the White House, Spicer has become the founder and president of RigWil LLC, a strategic consulting firm that provides insights to C-suite corporate and association executives.

JAMES VAN DER BEEK – James Van Der Beek is a writer, actor and producer who launched his acting career on the New York stage at age 16 to rave reviews in an original work by Edward Albee. He made his big-screen debut the following year in the movie “Angus,” but is perhaps best known for starring in the hit films “Varsity Blues,” the cult classic “The Rules of Attraction” and as the title character in the series “Dawson’s Creek,” which ran for six seasons and continues to syndicate around the globe.

Most recently, Van Der Beek co-created, wrote, show-ran and starred in Vice’s first scripted series, “What Would Diplo Do?,” which scored over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. He portrayed Matt Bromley in the FX original series “Pose” from Ryan Murphy, which debuted to critical and commercial acclaim and was nominated for a Golden Globe®, Critics Choice and Gotham Awards, and won a GLAAD Award, AFI Award and a Peabody. Van Der Beek’s other television credits include HBO’s series “Room 104,” created by Jay and Mark Duplass; “Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23,” “Friends with Better Lives,” “Criminal Minds,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” among many others. He is also the voice of Boris on Disney Junior’s hit animated series “Vampirina.”

Van Der Beek has done a variety of work on the big screen, including the cult classic “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” “Backwards,” “Formosa Betrayed,” Jason Reitman’s “Labor Day” and Alexander Payne’s “Downsizing.”

MARY WILSON – A singer, bestselling author, motivational speaker, businesswoman, former U.S. Cultural Ambassador, wife, mother and grandmother, the legendary Mary Wilson continues to make great strides in her inevitable journey to greatness. Performing with the same passion as she did singing with the original Supremes, as well as with her solo career, the world-renowned performer is an advocate for social and economic challenges in the United States and abroad.

Wilson uses her fame and flair to promote a diversity of humanitarian efforts including ending hunger, raising HIV/AIDS awareness and encouraging world peace. With no sign of slowing down, Wilson is getting ready to release her fourth book, “Supreme Glamour,” on Sept. 17, 2019. This highly anticipated coffee table book will showcase the gowns The Supremes were known for over the decades and delve into more history of the most successful female recording group of all time.

Ready or Not Review: Introducing the In-Laws From Hell

Ready or Not Star Samara Weaving
Mark O’Brien and Samara Weaving in ‘Ready or Not’ (Photo by Eric Zachanowich © 2019 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation)

Weddings can be intense, panic-inducing experiences. That’s just a fact. However, once the actual event’s over, the guests have departed, and the cake has been eaten, life usually returns to a semi-normal state. That’s not the case in Ready or Not, a deliciously wicked horror film from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Devil’s Due, V/H/S).

Grace (Samara Weaving) is deeply in love with Alex Le Domas (Mark O’Brien) but nervous about joining his uber-rich family. They’re definitely members of the 1% and she grew up poor in foster care. Alex has been estranged from his family, but his wedding has given the Le Domas family a chance to reconnect. The idea of marrying Grace without his family present is inconceivable, so Alex is forced back into the family mansion for a small, formal wedding.

Given the fact Alex isn’t particularly close with anyone except his brother, Daniel (Adam Brody), it’s initially difficult to understand why he’d subject his bride-to-be to their unnerving attention. However, the reason Alex is not just expected but required to exchange his vows at the family estate quickly emerges.

There’s a wedding tradition that goes back to the very beginnings of the family dynasty and it cannot be ignored. The consequences of disobeying the rules are fatal…at least according to family legend.

The Le Domas family’s wealth stems from playing cards and board games, and anyone marrying into the family must participate in a game on their wedding night. A card is pulled from a special box by the new addition to the family and whatever game is listed is the game that’s played. Normally, it’s a game of Old Maid or chess, but occasionally, the bride or groom pulls the Hide and Seek card.

Unfortunately for Grace, she pulls the Hide and Seek card without understanding the consequences. Before Alex can explain, the hunt is on. Grace good-naturedly hides in a dumbwaiter, hoping to be found quickly. Meanwhile, the Le Domas clan arm themselves with an odd assortment of weapons. Soon Grace is horrified to realize this game of Hide and Seek would more accurately be called Find and Kill.

Grace must die before dawn or the family will have hell to pay—literally.

Samara Weaving is fantastic as the new bride who goes from putting up with her in-laws’ nonsense to fighting for her life. Grace runs through the expected emotional stages before settling on rage at being forced to kill or be killed on her wedding night. She’s not about to go quietly, and she proves to be pretty ruthless when push comes to shove. Weaving gives a gloriously intense and surprisingly believable (given the bizarre premise) performance as the only seemingly sane person in a world gone mad.

Mark O’Brien and Adam Brody are terrific as brothers who deal with their family’s devotion to the Devil in different ways. Brody’s Daniel is resigned to going along with his father’s orders, turning to alcohol to dull his distaste for the hunt. O’Brien’s Alex failed to prepare his bride for the possibility she’d be on the receiving end of arrows and bullets, something Grace (and the audience) come to hold against the groom.

The family’s patriarch and matriarch are played by Henry Czerny and Andie MacDowell. Tony Le Domas (Czerny) reveals the origin of the family’s wealth before the action begins, explaining to Grace why she must participate in this unusual tradition. Becky Le Domas (MacDowell) is less enthusiastic about the game but just as committed to keeping the family alive by murdering Grace once the hunt gets underway. Czerny plays the fanatical father with a sort of delightful glee, while MacDowell’s Becky is more grounded in reality and even a tad sympathetic toward Grace.

Members of the twisted family in on the hunt also include Aunt Helene (Nicky Guadagni), Melanie Scrofano (Emilie), and Fitch (Kristian Bruun). Helene looks like a constipated angry eagle with an attitude to match. Guadagni’s lines are few and far between, but when Helene’s in the spotlight Guadagni’s biting delivery is brilliant. Scrofano’s Emilie spends the movie high on coke and randomly shooting at the wrong targets. Bruun’s Fitch is saddled with a crossbow he’s forced to find YouTube videos to learn how to shoot. The film’s infused with dark humor and Bruun and Scrofano provide most of the movie’s lighter moments.

Writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy’s script wickedly pokes fun at the wealthy, who, in 2019, are pretty much the perfect foil for a horror film. Busick and Murphy create absurd situations for these characters to endure and the blood/gore isn’t spared as the action ramps up.

The writing’s clever, the humor’s sharp, and the acting is outstanding all around. Ready or Not’s bloody entertaining and wicked fun.

Antlers Teaser Trailer: Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons Star and Guillermo Del Toro Produces

Fox Searchlight just released the first teaser trailer for Antlers, a horror fantasy based on the short story The Quiet Boy by Nick Antosca. The eerie trailer features a voice-over recalling the story of three bears. However, it’s evident these creatures are nothing like the bears in the classic fairy tale.

“Once there were three bears that lived in a dark, wet cave up above a small town. Every day, Little Bear went to school and at night he would come home and eat dinner. But one day Little Bear came home and Big Bear and Baby Bear were different. Big Bear got sick and his insides turned black. Big Bear has become more angrier and meaner, because they had no food…no meat,” says Lucas, played by Jeremy T Thomas. It’s an ominous tale and one that likely won’t end well for Lucas and his family.

Keri Russell (The Americans) and Jesse Plemons (Fargo) lead the cast of Antlers. Graham Greene (Wind River), Scott Haze (Thank You For Your Service), Rory Cochrane (White Boy Rick), and Amy Madigan (Twice in a Lifetime) co-star.

Scott Cooper (Black Mass, Crazy Heart) directed and co-wrote the screenplay with C. Henry Chaisson and Nick Antosca. Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro, a filmmaker who knows his way around the horror fantasy genre, produced with David Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy) and J. Miles Dale.

Cooper’s behind the scenes team includes director of photography Florian Hoffmeister, production designer Tim Grimes, editor Dylan Tichenor, and costume designer Karin Nosella. Shane Mahan is the creature effects supervisor and Lindala Schminken and Toby Lindala are the special effects make-up artists.

The Plot:

“In Antlers, a small-town Oregon teacher (Russell) and her brother (Plemons), the local sheriff, discover that a young student (Thomas) is harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences.”

The second season of Succession premiered on August 11, 2019 and, after just two episodes, HBO’s confirmed they’re renewing the one-hour dramatic series for a third season. “We are elated that Succession and its exploration of wealth, power and family has resonated so powerfully with audiences,” stated Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Drama Programming. “We cannot wait to see how the complex characters that Jesse Armstrong has created continue to navigate this captivating, ruthless world of the uber-rich. In today’s world where the intersection of politics and media is increasingly prevalent, Succession presents an especially piercing look behind the curtain of this elite, influential, and cutthroat community.”

Succession was created by Emmy, Oscar, and Writers Guild of America nominee Jesse Armstrong (In the Loop). Armstrong serves as the showrunner and executive produces with Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, and Scott Ferguson.

Joining the series for season two are Holly Hunter, Cherry Jones, Danny Huston, Jeannie Berlin, and Fisher Stevens. James Cromwell and Harriet Walter return as guest stars.

New episodes of the 9 episode second season air on Sundays at 9pm ET/PT.

The Season 2 Plot:

Netflix’s much-anticipated The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set to premiere on August 30, 2019. With the debut just 10 days away, Netflix has released a new behind-the-scenes video featuring the voice cast as well as the series creators.

Executive producer Lisa Henson explains this is a prequel and takes place during a period in which the Gelfling had a “rich and prosperous civilization.” Henson realizes The Dark Crystal still holds a special place in the hearts of millions of fans, which is why they wanted to revisit that original world.

Killing Eve Season 3 Begins Shooting: Harriet Walter and Danny Sapani Join the Cast

Filming is now underway on the third season of BBC America’s critically acclaimed drama Killing Eve. The Award-winning drama’s second season more than doubled season two’s number of viewers who tuned in to watch each episode on the day they premiered. According to BBC America, the third season grew by 87% among adults 25 through 54. That increase was enough to put Killing Eve in first place among all TV dramas in season-over-season ratings during the past four years.

The cast of Killing Eve is led by Emmy nominee Jodie Comer as Villanelle and Emmy nominee Sandra Oh as Eve. In addition to announcing the start of production on season three, BBC America announced Dame Harriet Walter (Succession, The Crown) and Danny Sapani (Harlots, The Crown) have joined the cast.

Season three has Suzanne Heathcote (Fear the Walking Dead) taking over as lead writer, a change behind-the-scenes that’s in keeping with the show’s tradition of “passing the baton to a new female writing voice,” per BBC America. Heathcote will executive produce with Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci, Damon Thomas, Sandra Oh, and new executive producer Jeff Melvoin (Designated Survivor). Nige Watson produces the series based on the Codename Villanelle novellas by Luke Jennings.

Killing Eve is a Sid Gentle Films Ltd production for BBC America.

A Look Back at the Season 2 Plot:

Killing Eve revolves around Eve, an MI6 operative, and psychopath assassin Villanelle in this story of two women bound by a mutual obsession and one brutal act. In the second season, the action picked up just 36 seconds after the end of the final episode of season one. Villanelle had disappeared, and Eve was left reeling, having no idea if the woman she stabbed was alive or dead. With both of them in deep trouble, Eve had to find Villanelle before someone else did…but unfortunately, she wasn’t the only person looking for her.

The second season ended with Carolyn (played by Fiona Shaw) betraying Eve and Villanelle seemingly putting an end to her disturbing, dysfunctional relationship with Eve by shooting her.
