John Cena and James Gunn Team Up for ‘Peacemaker’ HBO Max Series

Peacemaker Series

John Cena will be reprising his role from the upcoming The Suicide Squad film for the new HBO Max series Peacemaker. HBO Max has given the project a straight-to-series order, with The Suicide Squad writer/director James Gunn on board to write season one’s eight episodes. Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) will also direct some episodes of the first season.

The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran will executive produce along with Gunn. Cena is a co-executive producer on the action-adventure comedy series.

Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag,” said Gunn. “I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”

“I have said before that it has been a tremendous honor and an incredible opportunity to be part of The Suicide Squad and to work with James on what is going to be a fantastic movie. I am unbelievably excited to have the chance to team up with him again for Peacemaker. We can’t wait for fans to see this,” stated Cena.

The Suicide Squad film is set to open in theaters on August 6, 2021. Production on Peacemaker is anticipated to kick off in early 2021. Gunn’s expected to wedge it in before he starts work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The series will be produced by Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.

“James Gunn has the unique ability to create an expansive universe while also bringing to life the soul and wit of each character. We look forward to a deep dive into the world of Peacemaker,” said Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer for HBO and HBO Max.

The Plot Basics, Courtesy of HBO Max:

While details about Peacemaker are being kept under wraps, the series will explore the origins of the character that Cena will play in the upcoming film, a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. The series will extend the world that Gunn is creating for The Suicide Squad movie.

‘Filthy Rich’ Season 1 Episode 2 Photos: Preview of “John 3:3”

Fox’s primetime soap Filthy Rich season one episode one revealed the twisted tale of the Monreaux family led by Eugene and Margaret, owners of a profitable Christian television network. Episode two finds the newest additions to the family dealing with what it means to be part of this dysfunctional family.

Season one episode two, “John 3:3,” airs on September 28, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT.

The cast is led by Kim Cattrall as Margaret and includes Gerald McRaney as Eugene, Corey Cott as Eric, Olivia Macklin as Becky, and Aubrey Dollar as Rose. Melia Kreiling plays Ginger, Benjamin Levy Aguilar is Antonio, Mark L. Young is Jason, Steve Harris is Franklin Lee, and Aaron Lazar plays Reverend Paul Thomas.

“John 3:3” Plot: With no choice but to accept Eugene’s illegitimate children, Margaret finds a way to capitalize on this surprise revelation for the benefit of herself and Sunny Club. Meanwhile, Margaret puts Eric in charge of the charitable arm of the company and Rose finds out the shocking truth about Jason.

Filthy Rich Plot, Courtesy of Fox:

Meet the Monreauxes, a mega-rich Southern family famed for creating a wildly successful Christian television network. On the cusp of launching a digital retail arm of the company, the family’s patriarch, EUGENE, dies in a plane crash (or so we think), leaving MARGARET, a now-“Oprah” to the religious and Southern communities, to take charge of the family business. Not surprisingly, Eugene’s apparent death greatly impacts the Monreaux children: ERIC, the couple’s ambitious son, married to the prim and snooty BECKY, who assumes he will now run the show; and daughter ROSE, a budding fashion designer, who constantly struggles to evade the vast shadow cast by her mother.

If that wasn’t enough, the Monreauxes are stunned to learn that Eugene fathered three illegitimate children, all of whom are written into his will. Now, Margaret must use her business savvy and Southern charm to control her newly legitimized heirs, whose very existence threatens the Monreaux family name and fortune: GINGER, the tough-as-nails daughter of a Vegas cocktail waitress, whose life was virtually destroyed by Eugene’s rejection; ANTONIO, a single dad and boxer from Queens, NY; and JASON, another scion, who is not what he seems to be.

Margaret’s rock is her lifelong confidant and friend, FRANKLIN LEE, the Monreaux family lawyer, who has her back in the wake of the death of her husband and threats to the Monreaux empire, one of them being the beloved, popular, influential, and ambitious minister at the Sunshine Network, REVEREND PAUL THOMAS, who doesn’t think Margaret is capable of running the network, a newly announced retail venture, and her TV show simultaneously.

With monumental twists and turns, not to mention lies, deceit and shade from every direction, FILTHY RICH presents a world in which everyone has an ulterior motive – and no one is going down without a fight.

The seventh and final season opens with our heroes picking up the pieces of the society they destroyed on Sanctum. Still reeling from her mother’s death, Clarke, perhaps more than anyone, feels the toll of years upon years of fighting and loss. The group soon finds that maintaining order among the competing factions is no easy feat, and one that has them questioning whether their commitment to doing better was worth the price.

At the same time, our heroes must contend with new obstacles on a scale beyond any that they previously experienced as they unravel the mysteries of the Anomaly. What they encounter on this epic journey pushes them to their limits both physically and emotionally, challenging their long-held conceptions of family, love, and sacrifice. Ultimately, our heroes must answer for themselves what it means to truly live, and not just survive.

‘David Byrne’s American Utopia’ Debuts an Uplifting Trailer

HBO’s just released the full trailer for David Byrne’s American Utopia, the filmed version of the popular Broadway show. Spike Lee directed the film which is currently sitting at 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after its festival run.

“It is my honor and privilege that my art brother, Mr. David Byrne, asked me to join him in concert, to invite me into his magnificent world of American Utopia,” said Spike Lee.

Byrne added, “Spike and I have crossed paths many times over the years, obviously I’m a huge fan, and now finally here was an opportunity for us to work together. I am absolutely thrilled with the result.”

Oscar-winner Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman) produced the film through his 40 Acres and Mule Filmworks production company. Oscar-winner David Byrne (The Last Emperor) created and stars in the critically acclaimed Broadway production.

Joining Byrnes in the filmed version are his original Broadway cast members Jacquelene Acevedo (percussionist), Gustavo Di Dalva (percussionist), Daniel Freedman (percussionist), Chris Giarmo (vocals / dance & vocal captain), Tim Keiper (percussionist), Tendayi Kuumba (vocals), Karl Mansfield (keyboard / music director), Mauro Refosco (percussionist / music director), Stéphane San Juan (percussionist), Angie Swan (guitar), and Bobby Wooten III (bass).

David Byrne’s American Utopia was filmed at the Hudson Theatre in New York. HBO’s set a Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 8pm ET/PT premiere date. It will also stream on HBO Max.

Details on David Byrne’s American Utopia, Courtesy of HBO:

Featuring David Byrne (former Talking Heads frontman) and an ensemble of eleven musicians from around the globe, the show invites audiences into a joyous dreamworld where human connection, self-evolution, and social justice are paramount. The HBO special was the Opening Night Presentation for the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received tremendous critical acclaim.

The film includes choreographed, untethered performances of songs from Byrne’s 2018 Nonesuch album American Utopia, in addition to popular Talking Heads favorites such as “Once in a Lifetime” and “Burning Down the House.” Brief inter-song monologues allow Bryne to address various socio-political topics such as voter turnout, climate change, and immigration. The band’s powerful performance of Janelle Monáe’s “Hell You Talmbout” draws attention to police brutality toward Black Americans. Annie-B Parson’s choreography of the band members, who are mostly playing wireless instruments, creates a high-energy spectacle and exhilarating audiovisual experience.

‘Run’ Starring Sarah Paulson Gets a November Premiere Date

Hulu’s set a Friday, November 20, 2020 premiere date for the dramatic thriller, Run. The drama stars Emmy Award winner Sarah Paulson (American Crime Story) as a mom who has a twisted relationship with her daughter.

Run also stars newcomer Kiera Allen and marks the first major thriller in 60 years, according to Hulu, with a lead actor who is “an actual wheelchair user.”

Lionsgate is planning a theatrical launch in select international markets.

“We’re super excited audiences will get to stream Run on Hulu, a platform that’s really committed to giving the movie the same, big splash that was always intended for it. Plus, the film is about a girl who’s been quarantined at home her whole life; watching it the same way should be a fitting experience in 2020,” said director and co-writer Aneesh Chaganty.

Chaganty wrote the film with his Searching co-writer Sev Ohanian.

The Run Plot, Courtesy of Hulu:

They say you can never escape a mother’s love… but for Chloe, that’s not a comfort — it’s a threat. There’s something unnatural, even sinister about the relationship between Chloe (Allen) and her mom, Diane (Paulson). Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp.

From the visionary writers, producers and director of the breakout film Searching, comes a suspense thriller that shows that when mom gets a little too close, you need to RUN.
