Stranger Things Earns a Fourth Season from Netflix

Netflix has – surprise! – renewed Stranger Things for a fourth season. In a move that shocked absolutely no one, the streaming service today confirmed we will be taking another trip to the Upside Down.

The forty-second renewal announcement video ends with the following declaration: “We’re not in Hawkins anymore.”

There’s no word yet on what weekend we’ll have to put down our phones (or at least silence them), pop a massive bag of popcorn, and binge-watch as many episodes of Stranger Things as possible before our eyes revolt and refuse to stay open. We can expect a premiere date announcement along with a confirmation of new and returning cast members at a later date.

Netflix used the renewal announcement to also reveal they’ve signed Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer (collectively referred to as The Duffer Brothers) to a multi-year film and television series deal.

“The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love,” stated Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. “We can’t wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix. Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show — and forever changed our lives. From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about. We can’t wait to tell many more stories together — beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!” – The Duffer Brothers

Stranger Things is produced by Monkey Massacre Productions & 21 Laps Entertainment. The Duffer Brothers executive produce along with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Iain Paterson.

Season three starred Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Chief Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, and Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson. Cara Buono is Karen Wheeler, Natalia Dyer is Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton is Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery is Steve Harrington, Dacre Montgomery is Billy, and Sadie Sink is Max.

A Look Back at the First Three Seasons, Courtesy of Netflix:

A love letter to the ’80s classics that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

Stranger Things 2: It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

Stranger Things 3: It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms. When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.

Frozen 2 Soundtrack List: Panic! At The Disco, Weezer, Kacey Musgraves Contribute Songs

Which song will be Frozen 2‘s “Let It Go?” Walt Disney Animation Studios just released a clip from “Into the Unknown” which is in the running to become the sequel’s standout song, the tune that’ll be stuck in our heads for months…and months…and months…following the film’s release.

The Frozen 2 soundtrack will feature songs from the film’s voice cast including Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff. Franchise newcomer Evan Rachel Wood is also featured on the soundtrack. Plus, songs from Panic! At The Disco, Weezer, and Kacey Musgraves will be part of the film’s end credits.

Frozen directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck returned to helm the sequel. Songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez also returned to pen seven new songs and Christophe Beck composed the original score.

“The music of the Lopezes and Christophe Beck are part of the DNA of Frozen,” said director Chris Buck. “We couldn’t imagine building Frozen 2 without them. They bring such a rich, emotional understanding of the world and characters, and through their incredible music we have been able to really deepen and expand the story.”

“The songs and score of Frozen 2 reflect the growth of the characters and the deepening of their story,” stated writer/director Jennifer Lee. “The music is fun but emotional, personal yet powerful, intimate but also epic. Kristen, Bobby and Christophe have definitely outdone themselves and taken the music to brave new heights.”

The soundtrack, which is now available for pre-order, will be released on November 15, 2019. Frozen 2 opens in theaters on November 22nd.

“From the beginning of our collaboration with Jennifer Lee, Chris Buck and Peter Del Vecho, everything we’ve created has come from big questions—what is the story that we all as artists, individually and collectively, need to tell?” said Kristen Anderson-Lopez. “Bobby and I approach the story through the lens of which moments of our story lead to big emotions—feelings so strong our characters can no longer talk but need to sing.”

Danielle Panabaker Interview: The Flash Season 6 and Killer Frost’s Relationship with the Team

Danielle Panabaker hopes we’ll see more of Killer Frost and The Flash (Grant Gustin) teaming up in season six of The CW’s The Flash. During our roundtable interview at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Panabaker talked about Frost’s evolving relationship with Team Flash.

“I think now that we understand that Killer Frost is happy to be a part of Team Flash, I feel like we’ve really earned that. I had some issues in season four when it felt like she was magically showing up to fight bad guys. It’s like, ‘Wait, in season three she tried to kill everyone. She tried to kidnap and kill most of Team Flash.’ I didn’t quite buy that transition,” explained Panabaker. “I feel like they really earned it last season – season five. And so, yes. I think it’s safe to say you will see Barry and Killer Frost in the field more.”

Season six of the comic book-inspired series will premiere on October 8, 2019. New episodes will air on Tuesdays at 8pm ET/PT.

In season three you had input into Killer Frost’s costume. Did you have any input in the new one for season six?

Danielle Panabaker: “I would say more on this one. The season three suit was one of my favorites and I think it definitely includes what I wanted to do with the season’s new suit. This suit was actually built for season five and it just never made it to camera. I’m excited to finally get to put it to work in season six.”

Now that Killer Frost and Caitlin are cooperating, how will that change things?

Danielle Panabaker: “I think it’s great. I feel like the writers gave me such a really good storyline. They really earned it rather than just having them magically get along. We got to see some of their conflict, which was great. I’m excited this season to see Killer Frost take the wheel a little bit more.”

What can you tell us about season six?

Danielle Panabaker: “It’s great. I feel like now that we’re in season six, most of these characters have been established. You know who they are, so we don’t have to spend much time on that. We get to really delve into their relationships a little deeper, go a little deeper.”

Can you discuss Caitlin and Cisco’s relationship at this point?

Danielle Panabaker: “I think what’s great about Caitlin and Cisco’s friendship is that they always have supported each other. Even though it isn’t what Caitlin wants for herself, she understands why Cisco wants that and she’s the one who gave him the cure. I think for the most part their relationship is very consistent. I think she wants Cisco to be happy and she trusts him to know what that looks like.”

Are there any consequences or repercussions after Caitlin gave Cisco the cure?

Danielle Panabaker: “I don’t really think it’s a negative thing that Cisco’s chosen to not have his powers anymore. I think it opens up a really nice conversation about how many people have or haven’t chosen to have these powers and how it’s affected their lives. I think it will be interesting to see how Killer Frost and Cisco relate because that’s a different relationship than Caitlin and Cisco.”

How much does what happened to Nora affect all the relationships overall?

Danielle Panabaker: “I think it really affects Team Flash. We’re obviously very sad to see her go. And, it’s hard. They are family, so Barry and Iris are still struggling with that loss so we have to support them as best we can.”

You’ve said before that you would kind of like to see Killer Frost go full-on villain. Do you think that’s in the rear-view mirror now or is it still a possibility?

Danielle Panabaker: “I think it’s a bit more in the rear-view mirror. I think by allowing her to express herself a little bit more in season five and help find her place and help realize that she’s valued as a member of Team Flash, it’s probably shifted.”

What was the biggest surprise or challenge to you as a director on The Flash?

Danielle Panabaker: “My feet hurt. My feet really hurt. It’s a lot of time on your feet. But I’m directing again this season which I’m really excited about. I’ll hopefully learn more.”

History’s Kings of Pain Unscripted Series Debuts in November

Adam Thorn and Rob “Caveman” Alleva will be experiencing the pain of bites and stings – on purpose – in History’s new unscripted series, Kings of Pain. Wildlife biologist Thorn and animal handler Alleva star in the series set to premiere on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT.

“Insect and other venoms work magic, and, in a sense, pain makes the world go around as it lets all organisms know that something is wrong or dangerous and needs to be acted upon,” explained entomologist Dr. Justin O. Schmidt. He developed a system of ranking insects that sting on a pain scale of one to four which he wrote about in The Sting of The Wild.

“Rob and Adam are taking the concept of pain and my original pain scale to a higher realm with some of the most impressive stinging and pain-inducing animals we’ve ever seen. In the process, they are advancing our knowledge of pain and the human experience and ultimately we are going to learn so much from this,” added Schmidt.

“While the premise of this series may seem crazy, Adam and Rob are wildlife experts on a very important mission,” said Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President and General Manager for HISTORY. “While most people would flee, Adam and Rob go to great lengths safely scouring remote jungles and secluded beaches to test their pain limits in the name of science. We hope Kings of Pain will keep viewers at the edge of their seats during every scream, wince and puncture wound that brings our guys closer to updating history’s ultimate pain index.”

Details on Kings of Pain, Courtesy of History:

“In 1983 entomologist Dr. Justin O. Schmidt began ranking stinging insects on a scale from 1-4, putting himself in harm’s way for science creating the Schmidt sting pain index and authoring the book The Sting of The Wild. Now Thorn and Alleva are taking Schmidt’s pain index even further adding venomous bites and more deadly creatures and ranking them on a 30-point scale with new categories including intensity, duration and damage. Their goal is to create history’s ultimate and fully comprehensive guide to measuring pain. In addition, they will be consulting with Schmidt as they build this new pain index that is completely new to science to be used as an educational tool showcasing which creatures humans should avoid and what to do in the event they do get bitten or stung.

Each episode will chronicle Thorn and Alleva as they track the animal in its natural habitat, safely trap it and then execute the bite or sting on each other, followed by their ranking of the pain results. An onsite medic is present who monitors the health and well-being of both men and describes to viewers exactly what physical and physiological effects each bite and/or sting is creating within their bodies. Along their journey, viewers will also be learning about the history of each animal featured and its often-uncomfortable relationship with humans.

Deadly wildlife featured over this eight-episode season include the Nile monitor lizard, executioner wasp, fire urchin, rove beetle, lionfish, scorpion fish, bullet ant, piranha, tarantula hawk, giant Asian centipede and the reticulated python – to name a few. Audiences will also get the chance to travel the world from the remote jungles of Bolivia, the Amazon and Indonesia to the beaches of Bali, South Africa, Mexico and Baja California.”
