Fola Evans-Akingbola stars as Maddie, also a marine biologist who works with Ben, and is highly suspicious of Ryn.

Ian Verdun stars as Xander, a deep-sea fisherman on a quest to uncover the truth; and Rena Owen as Helen, the town eccentric who seems to know more about the mermaids than she lets on.

‘Outlander’ Season 5 Episode 12 Recap: “Never My Love” Season Finale

Outlander Season 5 Episode 12
Sam Heughan in ‘Outlander’ season 5 episode 12 (Photo Credit: Starz)

Starz’s Outlander season five episode 11 left off with the fate of Claire (kidnapped by the Browns) and the whereabouts of Brianna and Roger dangling. Brianna, Roger, and Jemmy stepped through the stones but based on Roger’s reaction, they didn’t land where (or when) they expected to. With Jamie and the men tricked into inspecting an explosion at the whiskey mill, Claire and Marsali were left alone to fend off an attack by Lionel Brown and his men. Marsali was knocked out and Claire was taken away, head covered and struggling against her captors.

(Caution: Episode 12 is extremely violent, disturbing, and involves graphic sexual assaults.)

Episode 12, the season finale (no, it’s too soon!), begins with “Never My Love” by The Association playing on the record player. We pan through a large, beautifully decorated home to find a well put together Claire (Caitriona Balfe) staring at a painting of Fraser’s Ridge.

The scene swiftly cuts to Claire tied up and gagged.

Once again we find Claire in the ‘60s and this time Jamie (Sam Heughan) is with her.

We see the horrible treatment Claire receives after she’s taken away and hear the men discussing whether they should just kill her and leave her for “the beast.” She learns Lionel Brown knows she’s Dr. Rawlings and though she says she was just trying to help, Brown is furious. He plans on taking her to Brownsville and forcing her to confess.

In the ‘60s, young Ian (John Bell) arrives in full military uniform and Jamie welcomes him into their home.

Back in the 1770s, Claire briefly escapes before being caught and stabbed. One of the men warns they weren’t supposed to touch her or draw her blood because she’s a conjure woman. Now, they’re cursed. Claire plays into their fear, warning they’ll all be dead by dawn if they touch her again.

They tie her up and after night falls, she can hear them make crude jokes around the campfire about her legs not being bound.

In her ‘60s dream, Jamie comforts Claire in front of the fireplace. She’s shaking.

Claire’s placed in a wagon on the journey to Brownsville and Tebbe (Alexis Rodney) rides in the back with her. He reminds her of his name a few times, hoping she’ll tell her spirits not to hurt him because he was good to her.

The men prepare to take their horses across the creek and it’s Tebbe who holds onto Claire while the others get ready. She warns him to leave the group because the others will all die. She says the kelpies (mythical water horses) are her friends and if he lets her go, they’ll carry her away to freedom. She begs him to release her, assuring him he’ll be safe. He agrees but then she’s pulled away by another man.

Her vision of a future that could never be continues and now Murtagh and Jocasta are there, looking cool in their ‘60s attire and obviously very much in love. Marsali and Fergus are also seated at the dining room table for the Thanksgiving feast.

Claire fights back and refuses to step into the creek. She yells out, “Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ!” and the men believe she’s cursing them again. They stuff a gag in her mouth and Brown snarls, “Not one more damn word!”

Claire continues to be abused during the trip to Brownsville. A rope’s placed around her neck as Brown threatens they’ll teach her some manners.

Her vision of the ‘60s shows the Frasers’ friends and family enjoying each other’s company around the dining room table. It’s important to note Brianna, Roger, and Jemmy are not part of the group. Empty chairs fill the space where they should be seated.

Claire’s in desperate shape as she chokes and struggles to breathe at night with the gag still firmly in her mouth. One of the men comes to check on her and asks, “Does the name Ringo Starr mean anything to you?” (What?! This man had been looking at her strangely throughout the trip.)

Claire nods yes and confirms he’s a drummer. The man knew Dr. Rawlings’ advice didn’t sound like anything from this era, but he never thought he’d encounter another traveler. Claire begs for help, but he can’t do anything without exposing himself. He thinks the men all believe she’s a witch so they’re too scared to actually do anything more than threaten her.

It turns out the man is Wendigo Donner (Brennan Martin). He explains he traveled back with a group of American Indians from 1968 and Claire reveals she knows some of his fellow travelers. She’s sad to tell him she knows Robert Springer (Otter-Tooth) is dead and that the Mohawk killed him. Claire continues to beg him to free her, but Wendigo is terrified of Lionel.

Wendigo has been trying for years to return home. He asks for her gemstones and Claire confirms she knows where some are and where the stone circle is located. If he cuts her loose, she’ll take him there.

Wendigo agrees to help after the men fall asleep. The others call for him and he returns the gag to her mouth, warning her she needs to act more afraid.

Claire coughs and continues to struggle for breath. Lionel leads his nephew Cody to her and warns him to remember Claire affects the wind and water. Cody tells her not to struggle but, of course, Claire attempts to fight him off, despite being bound and gagged. She slips in and out of her comforting ‘60s dream as he rapes her.

Lionel slaps and kicks her before also raping Claire. (At this point I had to stop watching for a few hours. These scenes are too realistic and too much to bear.)

Claire dissolves into her ‘60s dream to escape the horror. Jamie helps set the Thanksgiving table as she notices a leak in the ceiling. The dream then shows Claire seated at the head of the table opposite Jamie, all the guests in place except Brianna and Roger. Jamie thanks the family for being there as Claire glances at the two empty chairs. Jamie rises to deliver a toast. The vision’s disrupted by the appearance of Lionel at the table participating in the toast.

In reality, Lionel has just finished his assault and calls for the next man to rape the “hedge whore.” As more men approach, Claire lapses into her dreamworld. The Thanksgiving celebration is interrupted by the doorbell. Claire answers and it’s Lionel Brown (dressed as a cop) and he delivers the news Brianna and Roger were killed in a car accident. Jemmy was also killed.

Fortunately, we leave Claire’s story – for now – to catch up with Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin). It’s revealed what Jemmy ran toward at the end of episode 11…Ian is seated just feet away! They’re all confused, and Brianna and Roger confirm they were thinking about home when they touched the stones.

They head back to Fraser’s Ridge but decide to make camp for the night, rather than pushing themselves. As they’re preparing to unpack, Brianna spots Jamie’s cross blazing on the hill. They immediately get back on the road.

Jamie’s men have assembled and are about to head out when Ian, Brianna, and Roger arrive. Jamie’s shocked to see them and Brianna confirms it didn’t work. He fills them in on the attack and reveals Claire’s been taken. Jamie swears they’ll get her back but turns down Brianna’s offer to accompany them. Roger says he’s coming and reminds Jamie he specifically called him at the gathering and Roger pledged to stand by his side.

“There are times for men of peace and there are times for men of blood. I will stand by you,” says Roger.

Outlander Season 5 Episode 12

Ian prepares by, literally, putting on his war face.

Claire flits in and out of consciousness to watch Jamie and his men launch their attack. Ian is a wicked fighter, channeling all he’s learned from his time with the Mohawks. Ian lets a hatchet sail and splits one man’s head. Roger makes his first kill in hand-to-hand combat while Jamie displays the skills that kept him alive in numerous battles.

As Jamie fights, he calls out for Claire. She’s too weak to respond. Plus, her gag is still in place.

Jamie eventually spots her and races to her side. She makes a few small, gutwrenching noises as he sinks to his knees. He’s gentle as he takes away her gag and cuts away her bindings. She’s been viciously beaten and her face is swollen and battered.

“You are alive. You are whole,” says Jamie.

Ian and Fergus (César Domboy) join Jamie, and Claire learns some of the men who held her captive are still alive. Claire continues whimpering when she’s offered a knife to exact her revenge. She turns her head and Jamie explains Claire’s bound by an oath and can’t kill. However, he’s not under any such oath. He will kill for her; Ian and Fergus also take that pledge.

Jamie asks who and how many and Claire whispers, “I don’t know.”

“Kill them all,” commands Jamie.

Ian and Fergus return to lead their men in killing all the prisoners/rapists. Jamie has remained with his traumatized wife as their dying screams can be heard. Ian returns to deliver the news the prisoners are dead.

Jamie ever-so-tenderly lifts Claire into his arms. She continues her heartbreaking whimpering as Jamie brings her to the fire. Her abusers are scattered around the campfire and Jamie wants her to see they are all dead.

However, they discover Lionel Brown is badly injured but still breathing. Roger stops them from shooting him, believing they can get answers from him before he dies. Jamie wants to take Claire home and has the men follow them with Lionel.

They stop on their journey home and in the morning hours, Claire asks about Marsali. Jamie assures her she’s still alive and so is her unborn baby. Claire wonders if an Indian was among the dead and Jamie says there wasn’t. She reveals the Indian is like her – a time-traveler. She’s angry when she explains he didn’t hurt her but he also didn’t help her.

Claire thinks her mind’s playing tricks on her as she confesses she saw Roger among Jamie’s men. Jamie breaks the news Roger, Brianna, and Jemmy have come home.

Later, Brianna rushes from the house and hugs her mom tight. They gently touch each other’s faces as Claire says, “I thought I’d never see you again.” Brianna responds, “I’m home.”

Marsali (Lauren Lyle), bruised face but otherwise healthy, joins in on the hug.

Brianna takes care of her mom, gently washing her in the bathtub in front of the fireplace. Claire doesn’t speak and as Brianna leaves her to soak, she reminds her mother she’s there for her whatever she needs, whenever she needs it.

After Claire’s dressed for bed, Jamie confesses the sight of her “tears his heart” and fills him with rage. He wants to kill someone and Claire asks if Lionel’s still alive. Jamie reveals the men have beat him and he’s tied up in her office. She admits she’s glad the others are dead.

She asks Jamie not to worry about her and then breaks down as she lists everything in her life she’s survived up to this point. “I am supposed to be shattered by this, but I won’t be!” she cries.

That night in bed, Roger confesses he killed a man.

Claire dresses and returns to her office. Lionel’s aware enough to ask for mercy and for his bonds to be loosened. Marsali warns him to be quiet. He won’t stop talking and asks Claire to tell Jamie not to kill him.

Claire still hasn’t spoken to him as she asks Marsali to prepare the syringe. When Marsali leaves, Claire picks up a scalpel. Lionel continues to beg for his life and Claire can’t go against her oath, despite the fact Lionel deserves a slow, torturous death.

Marsali returns as Claire leaves but not before she tells Lionel she won’t do him any harm.

Away from everyone, Claire kneels on the floor, alone, and cries. (This is an absolutely heart-wrenching scene.)

Marsali’s alone with Lionel when he makes a crude remark while asking for food. He demands his food served with a smile, unaware Marsali is drawing up a syringe. He warns Marsali that if he’s not treated well, his brother will attack them.

Marsali pretends to care that he returns home strong. She taps the syringe and injects him in the neck while explaining Claire took an oath to do no harm, but she has not. “I’ll watch you burn in hell before I let you harm another soul in this house,” says Marsali.

Marsali injected him with water hemlock root and he dies an unfortunately quick death.

Marsali’s seated on the floor in the operating room not far from Lionel’s dead body when Jamie checks in on them. He’s not in the least bit upset Lionel’s dead and tries to assure poor Marsali she’s not going to be either haunted or go to hell – her two main concerns.

Jamie, alone, returns Lionel’s body to his brother, Richard (Chris Larkin). Jamie explains Lionel’s men came onto his land and kidnapped and raped his wife. Those men are all dead along with Lionel. He only brought Lionel back so he can be buried in Brownsville.

Richard admits his brother reaped what he sowed. He understands Jamie did what he needed to do. But Richard warns that when the time comes, he will also do what he must do.

Days pass and life’s peaceful on Fraser’s Ridge. Ian plays with the kids and Rollo as the rest of the community goes about their daily lives.

Roger and Brianna stroll up to the big house and Roger reminiscences about how he thought they’d never approach this house again. “We always seem to be on the road less traveled,” he remarks, adding, “Nothing’s ever easy.”

Brianna wonders whether Roger’s disappointed to still be on Fraser’s Ridge. He’s not. “We wanted the stones to take us home and they did,” he says to a beaming Brianna.

Claire’s face is healing as she has a quiet chat with Jamie. She wants to enjoy this time, not knowing when the peace will end. They’ll meet the upcoming rocky times the best they can.

“I love you,” says Claire. Jamie holds her hand and replies, “When the day shall come that we do part, if my last words are not I love you, you ken it’s because I didn’t have time.”

Thunder rumbles in the distance.

Jamie and Claire embrace, naked, in bed. Her body’s still covered with bruises and Jamie tells his gorgeous wife she’s brave. She feels safe in his arms as they hold each other even tighter.

The episode – and the season – ends with a soulful version of “The Skye Boat Song.”

Season five did an impressive job of moving the stories of the key characters forward, while also showcasing the evolution and maturity of Ian, Marsali, and, to a lesser degree, Fergus. Season five was a vast improvement over season four, even though it’s sending us off to Droughtlander with one of the series’ most disturbing and difficult to watch episodes (right up there with Jamie’s rape in the season one finale).

Please stay safe during these tumultous times. And remember, we’re all in this together.

‘Ozark’ Season 2 Episode 6 Recap: “Outer Darkness”

Ozark Season 2 Episode 6

Season two episode six of Netflix’s critically acclaimed drama, Ozark, starts off with Wendy and Buddy driving back from the Snell farm where Buddy has just set fire to their poppies. Buddy (Harris Yulin) seems to be in high spirits and tries to get Wendy (Laura Linney) to lighten up. Wendy asks Buddy if he misses his life back in Detroit and he admits he does, sometimes.

Buddy changes the subject and asks Wendy to promise when they get the casino up and running, they’ll get the hell out of there. Wendy assures him they have a plan and then provides details on how they’ve decided to go to Australia. She begins to tell him about her childhood and not having a lot of money and by the time she’s done with her story, she realizes Buddy has died.

Wyatt (Charlie Tahan) tries to talk to Ruth (Julia Garner) but she won’t answer the door, clearly still shaken – and rightfully so – from being waterboarding. Ruth tries to take a shower but begins to cry.

Frank from the funeral home arrives at the Byrdes’ home to collect Buddy’s body. Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) asks his mom and dad why Buddy smells like gasoline and Wendy explains Buddy wanted to help with something. Jonah, upset, questions why she would let Buddy go with her. Marty (Jason Bateman) reminds his son it’s no one’s fault; they knew he was sick.

Marty prepares to leave and Wendy tries to talk him into staying home. Marty warns her, “You blew up their field, Wendy. It’s just gonna get worse from here.”

The Feds are on the Snell property searching when Darlene (Lisa Emery) walks over and threatens Agent Roy Petty (Jason Butler Harner). He begins to question if they know the whereabouts of Del who was last seen coming onto their property. Before they can answer, he questions them about the fire on their property the night before. Jacob (Peter Mullan) claims it was a prescribed burn. Petty clearly doesn’t buy it.

Ruth exits her trailer and Wyatt asks if she’s okay. She’s being her usual spitfire self and is mad Wyatt’s late for school. She tells him to go get Three and get in the car. Cade (Trevor Long) inspects Ruth to see if she’s all right, all the while telling her they’ll get Marty’s money one way or another. (Sure, his daughter was just questioned, threatened, and assaulted by the cartel, but hey let’s steal money from them anyway.)

The FBI agents and their trained dogs are at the field where the burn took place. Petty receives a radio call that Marty’s at the gate trying to get in. Petty won’t let him through and tells Marty he can’t have contact with them because they might become witnesses. He’s obviously trying to get to Marty; everyone knows the Snells turning witness is most likely not going to happen.

During the FBI’s search, an agent announces he’s found something. One of their trained dogs digs up bones.

Marty and Wendy argue over the Snells while at the funeral home. He’s upset she didn’t run the idea of burning the poppies by him first and that she’s making decisions without him. Frank comes out and begins showing Wendy mausoleums – another thing Marty did not know about. He questions when she was going to tell him about that. She snaps back, “Well, I’m telling you now.”

Marty goes to where they store the caskets and begins taking money out of one of them. (It seems that’s where they’re hiding their money for the time being.)

Jonah’s down in the basement beginning to go through Buddy’s belongings when he notices a Rolodex.

Charles Wilkes (Darren Goldstein) stops by the Byrde residence to speak to Wendy. He says he’s been trying to get ahold of her and reveals the FBI’s been trying to contact him. He wants to know what kind of business their investors are in and if it’s legal. She says no but adds if he wants the whole truth, now’s his chance.

Marty shows up at the strip club and is surprised to find Ruth there. She sarcastically asks him, “You think those polls wipe themselves off?” He responds no, but she hasn’t been answering his calls. He offers that if she needs more time, she can take all the time she wants. Ruth cuts him off, insisting she’s fine.

The FBI’s still at the Snell farm piecing together human remains when Jacob tells Darlene to call his lawyer. She demands he admit they should never have gotten involved with “these people.” Jacob snaps back, wanting to know whose idea it was to put bones into the poppy fields – hers or Ash’s.

Agent Petty asks Jacob if wants to discuss his business doings with Marty Byrde. Jacob refuses to discuss anything without the presence of his lawyer. Petty informs him he’s going to charge him with murder.

Darlene meets with Helen and the Brydes at Marty and Wendy’s office. Helen needs to know what exactly the FBI has uncovered on their land. They ask if Del’s in the field and Darlene insists he’s not. Helen informs Darlene people under investigation for murder are not granted casino licenses. Darlene doesn’t give a damn about a casino license.

“I’ll rephrase that. Your husband might go away for mass murder. What do you plan to do about it?” asks Helen. Darlene seems to think it’s the problem of whoever burned her field – not hers. Wendy admits it was Marty who burned their field and points out if he didn’t do so both Darlene and Jacob would be in jail for drug trafficking. Darlene seems stunned by this revelation. She’s pissed off Wendy stood in her home and lied to her. Wendy responds, “I saved this entire enterprise from going under.”

Pastor Mason Young (Michael Mosley) visits the sheriff’s station wanting to know if any of the bones they found belong to his missing wife, Grace. He agrees to bring his son in to test the DNA.

Wendy’s picking out a suit for Buddy in the basement when Marty fills her in about Mason showing up at the sheriff’s station wanting to know if they found his wife. Wendy asks if he has a plan for what to do about the bones and he admits he doesn’t. He needs to talk to Jacob and Wendy suggests they warn Mason. Darlene’s capable of doing anything.

Charles Wilkes and his lawyer meet with Agent Petty, and Petty begins by going over what Wilkes does, how much he has donated, and what boards he sits on. He admits he now understands what the Byrdes see in him. Petty brings up the fact the Byrdes donated $50,000 to him. Wilkes assures him that $50,000 doesn’t mean he’s in business with them.

Petty switches tactics and reveals he knows Wilkes is 18 days late on a $136 million bank payment. If he had to guess, Petty believes Wilkes is siphoning funds from his foundation and that’s the real reason he needs this casino to open.

Wilkes looks at his lawyer and the lawyer asks Petty if he’s sure he wants to be filming this? Petty says yes. With that, the lawyer says fair enough. “September, a man which is described to look like you fired a handgun inside a bar called Rusty Hall,” says the lawyer. He adds that was coincidentally the night before his motel sustained over $10,000 worth of damage.

Still not finished, the lawyer says when he inquired about the damage a local drug dealer told him he was robbed and assaulted. It wasn’t reported because of drugs and all. He finishes with, “It’s amazing what you can find if you look hard enough.” Petty’s smug look has definitely disappeared now and he reaches over and turns off the camera. Wilkes informs Petty he’ll tell him everything he knows about the Byrdes but in exchange, he wants to be free of the investigation. And, Wendy gets protection.

Marty visits the jail to ask Jacob who the bones belong to and if one of them is Grace. Jacob warns Marty not to ask questions he doesn’t want the answers to. Jacob doesn’t seem to be taking this seriously and insists the Feds are just trying to get him, just like what happened to his family all those years ago. He assures Marty there are bones of family members all over that land.

Marty gets an idea and says, “Say that again.” Jacob, catching Marty’s drift, tells him no. Marty believes it’s a possible way to get him out of there – if he tells him where his ancestors are buried. Jacob thinks it’s a desecration and they do not disturb their dead. Marty says him if he doesn’t, he’s going to rot in jail.

Wendy finds Mason sitting on a bench and warns him she’s worried about him and his baby. Mason doesn’t seem to think she’s concerned so she gets to the point. She wants him to call off the DNA test because he knows what the Snells are capable of.

Ruth turns up at the Blue Cat and asks Rachel for oxy. After Rachel gives her a pill, Ruth asks if Agent Petty still comes in there. Rachel admits sometimes he does. Ruth warns Rachel to stay away from him and Rachel asks what happened. Ruth says he set her up to look like a rat. Again, Rachel asks what happened. Instead of answering, Ruth shows Rachel her bruised arms. She asks Ruth if he did that to her and Ruth doesn’t answer that question but tells Rachel if he shows up there again not to trust him.

Jonah’s at school when an angry student confronts him about taking his money and not doing his work. Jonah forgot and tries to give him his money back. The guy shoves Jonah down and Wyatt comes over and beats the kid up, defending Jonah.

Marty’s getting supplies ready when he gets a call from school.

Marty shows up to get his kids and Wyatt tells Ruth he got suspended. Charlotte and Ruth are upset about it and Charlotte tells her dad he needs to fix this. Ruth also gets upset at Marty, but he ignores her and tells his kids to come with him. Ruth yells out for Charlotte to stay away from Wyatt. She also yells at Marty, telling him Charlotte is a bad influence.

Marty and Wendy sit down with Jonah and want to know why he’s being paid to do other students’ work. Charlotte takes this time to confess she didn’t steal $5,000 but in fact stole $10,000. She also lets her parents know she split it with Jonah. Charlotte tries to turn the tables on them, suggesting that before they try to talk to her about honesty, to look her in the eyes and say they haven’t lied to her and Jonah.

Changing the subject, Marty asks Jonah what he did with his money. Jonah confesses he cleaned it. He explains he opened a bank account under his fake name along with a couple of offshore accounts. Wendy’s upset and tells the kids to go to their rooms. Marty doesn’t want her to make big deal out of this. Clearly too late for that, she says, “Jonah is laundering money under his second identity. Charlotte is stealing drug cartel cash and telling secrets to Wyatt Langmore who, incidentally, thinks that you killed his dad.”

This turns into a huge argument and Wendy blames Marty for not being around. He insists he’s trying to handle things. Marty begins to get his bag and car keys to leave and Wendy’s in disbelief that he’s leaving after what she just said. Marty tells her, “I can stay here. I can talk about our feelings. Or I can go take care of sh*t and make sure that we don’t die, okay?”

Marty heads over to the Snells and begins digging up a gravesite where their ancestors are buried. Darlene, once again, is not happy and tells Marty not to act like he’s some hero trying to get her husband out of jail. She reminds him they both know she could have taken care of the preacher problem.

Wilkes calls Wendy, telling her she lied to him and he needs to speak with her now. She tries to explain it’s not a good time but he informs her he’s on her dock. Wilkes reveals he knows she lied about when exactly they got involved with the cartel. He now knows she’s been in business with the cartel for over 10 years.

Wendy asks what he told the FBI and Wilkes asks what it matters because everything she told him was lies. He insists he’s trying to protect her; she insists she doesn’t need his protection. He wants her to leave Marty. Wendy suggests he should leave and walks away.

Rachel shows up at Petty’s motel and demands to know what he did to Ruth Langmore. She saw the bruises up and down Ruth’s arms and asks if he did that to her. Rachel wants to talk to his boss and wants to see her plea deal in writing. He drops the bombshell that there isn’t a written plea deal and no one knows who she is. He begins to blame her for everything and then hands her drugs. Petty tells her next time Ruth wants drugs to give her these. Rachel throws them and leaves.

It’s the day of Buddy’s funeral and the FBI is there taking pictures. Wilkes is also there and Marty questions why he showed up; he never knew Buddy. Frank Cosgrove from the Kansas City mob is also in attendance. It turns out Jonah called him after he found his name and number in the Rolodex. He called Buddy’s friends and informed them of Buddy’s funeral.

After Jonah leaves, Frank asks Marty what’s going on with the casino. Marty assures him he’s working on it.

Agent Petty is waiting on the DNA results when the lab technician lets him know they have matches. Petty’s in for a shock when he finds out the matching DNA belongs to Jacob Snell. All the remains are 90 to 150 years old.

Pastor Mason is preaching on the streets when the cops arrest him. He’s charged with child endangerment for keeping the baby out in the cold for eight hours a day.

Back at Buddy’s funeral, Wendy shares funny stories about her deceased friend. One, in particular, involves Buddy liking to skinny dip. Jonah speaks as well and reads messages from auto factory workers who Buddy once knew. Jonah then goes on to talk about his own feelings about Buddy, calling him his best friend.

Jacob’s released from jail but before he can leave Petty asks how he did it. Jacob just thanks him for helping them locate their family’s remains. Darlene warns Petty the FBI will be hearing from their lawyer. They intend to file a civil suit against the FBI.

Marty’s at the Blue Cat after everyone leaves and has a beer, telling Rachel he’ll clean up. He asks if she thinks he hides his emotions. He confesses he doesn’t know what to do so he’s trying to keep his head above water and can’t get emotional. He explains if this goes wrong and he can’t pull off the casino, he won’t leave her hanging.

Before he can go on to incriminate himself, Rachel suddenly kisses him. After pulling away he tries to apologize. She stops him by beginning to unbutton her shirt, revealing she’s wearing a wire.

‘Shirley’ Trailer and Photos: Elisabeth Moss Stars in the Award-Winning Drama

Neon’s released a riveting new trailer for the Sundance Film Festival hit, Shirley. Emmy Award-winner Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) stars as author Shirley Jackson in the drama based on the book by Susan Scarf Merrell.

In addition to Elisabeth Moss, the cast includes Odessa Young (soon to be seen in The Stand series) as Rose Nemser, Emmy nominee Michael Stuhlbarg (The Looming Tower) as Stanley Hyman, and Logan Lerman (Hunters) as Fred Nemser.

Josephine Decker (Madeline’s Madeline) directed from a screenplay by Sarah Gubbins. Gubbins also served as a producer along with Christine Vachon, David Hinojosa, Jeffrey Soros, Simon Horsman, and Elisabeth Moss. Martin Scorsese, Allison Rose Carter, Alisa Tager, and Cher Hawrysh executive produced.

“Shirley Jackson was a wildly unorthodox human and storyteller. Encountering her work was like finding a map towards becoming the kind of artist I would like to be. Daring. Intimate. Structured yet dreamlike,” explained director Decker. “I remember reading some critic or biographer noting that Shirley wasn’t a political writer. But I believe that Shirley grounded the political in the personal and that this is why her work continues to resonate today. Her stories are so deeply human that they are also timeless. She battled racism, classism and sexism through the unusual, the psychological, the manipulative rhythms of the subconscious.”

Shirley will be released on June 5, 2020.

The Shirley Plot:

“Renowned horror writer Shirley Jackson is on the precipice of writing her masterpiece when the arrival of newlyweds upends her meticulous routine and heightens tensions in her already tempestuous relationship with her philandering husband. The middle-aged couple, prone to ruthless barbs and copious afternoon cocktails, begins to toy mercilessly with the naïve young couple at their door.”

For five seasons our heroes did whatever it took to survive on Earth…and nothing worked. Earth was unsurvivable, lost to them forever. What was not lost: hope. After 125 years in cryosleep, traveling through the stars, our heroes woke up to a new home, a final gift from dearly-departed friends. A place where they can try again. They’re given one simple task: do better. Be the good guys.

With this credo in mind Clarke and Bellamy lead a group down to this mysterious world, hoping to start anew, to finally find peace. But old habits die hard and when they stumble across an idyllic society, it quickly becomes clear that not everything on Sanctum is as perfect as it seems. Despite their determination to do better, threats both seen and unseen will once again force our heroes to fight for their lives and the future of humanity.
